  • In this Video, I show how the a-trac system and rear locker work on the 2013 Toyota Tacoma Off Road.
    Note that the a-trac system works on the front and rear axels when activated, but also still works on the front if you already have the rear diff locked.
    Both the A-Trac system and rear locker only work while in 4wd Low range.
    My first two attempts were basically the same approach and angle, however my third attempt was much more aggressive to put it to the test.

    This is a great video to demonstrate the trucks capabilities. I have a 2015 TRD O/R and it is my 1st 4WD truck. I've purposely gotten myself in situations where a locker was needed yet I completely forgot about this feature. One day I was in a similar angle to what you were in this video & I engaged the a-trac. Problem solved.

    Thanks for posting this. I’m new to the Tacoma scene. I just bought one and I’m trying to understand when to use the rear dif lock, a-trac, traction control button, 4 hi, 4lo etc. I figure 2wd for dry pavement, 4wd for slippery pavement, dirt roads etc..but from there I’m a bit lost. 4lo to crawl? But when/why would you engage dif lock? When/why a-trac? If I’m not mistaken, you can use dif-lock with a-track? Are they just different tiers of crawling? Obviously I’m lost.

    • @evanwilliams9793
      @evanwilliams9793  4 года назад

      jrod4491 no traction control. Just the A-Trac system. Which is similar, but only works at slow speeds

    • @jrod4491
      @jrod4491 4 года назад

      Ok? I have a 2014 TRD SPORT 4x4 no a track or rear locker but have traction control...nice truck

    • @evanwilliams9793
      @evanwilliams9793  4 года назад +1

      jrod4491 yeah I used to own a 2013 TRD sport as well which had traction control. But it worked more for icy or slippery conditions while driving at normal speeds, I believe it only worked on the rear axel. It’s basically a limited slip without the actual LSD. However there would be a decent amount of wheel spin before it would try to kick in.. And if I remember correctly the traction control became disabled in 4Low. While ATrac is for crawling speeds and it detects wheel speed on all four corners and applies brakes to the wheel which is spinning to help power the wheel that actually has traction. . I know it sounds like they are basically the same thing (because they basically are) however owning both trucks it’s amazing how much better the atrac works for the technical stuff.
