Some say there is some noticeable distortion/interference in the optical signal of the Chromecast Audio, is it true? I don't believe I'll be purchasing one because I'm set up with a Chromecast but I'm simply curious lol
Using the optical signal now and I'm not noticing any distortion at all. Might just depend on the quality of the speaker being used. I'm currently using my soundbar with a sub and the sound is awesome
Thank you for the review. Chromecast audio is amazing and it's also super cheap. You don't have to purchase Sonos to get that multi-room functionality anymore. What speakers were you using in this video?
+Molten Pros It's called the X-Mini II. Here's a link to them on Amazon. Thanks for watching my video www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UEBN42?keywords=x-mini%20speaker&qid=1451054906&ref_=sr_1_3&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rps=1&sr=8-3
Edward Chun This promotion was run almost a year ago when I uploaded this video. There might be some other promotions (US region) during black Friday/Christmas time
Hello Soji. I'm looking to download all my old CD's to my portable hard drive, us my laptop as a jukebox and get some chromecast's to sink all the speakers in each room of my flat. can this be done or must the music come from an app on my phone? Your video make it all look soo easy lol. Hope its just as easy to do it on my laptop with my own downloaded music.. Many thanks Aron
Aron Savoury So while that would be awesome, Chromecast audio works as a streaming service meaning your music would have to be on a cloud service like Google play music or Spotify to name a few. I know apps like Bubbleupnp can stream content directly off your phone but I'm not sure of any programs for Windows or Mac that will let you do the same without first uploading it to the cloud.
I see! So i can play all my music as long as its uploaded to the cloud via Google play. do you know if this costs anything or is there a limit to how much i can upload?
Jad Maktabi I've noticed it's not always there too. I chose the app and toggle wifi on and off and then reopen Google play music. That usually does the trick. I'm sure an update to the app will fix it. In the meantime it's good to leave feedback in the app so Google is aware.
I’m curious about the chrome cast and the chrome cast audio , can you cast a movie to chrome cast then have the audio of that movie cast to the Chrome cast audio?
Can you schedule a music? Say I want to have one of these unit play news when I wake up, another unit play different music during breakfast, another play different music when I get home?
Dinesh Patel unfortunately I don't think you will be able to schedule music they way you want it. When you are trying to cast it's something you have to connect to manually each time you want to play music from your phone or tablet. If you have a dedicated device that's connected through an aux/optical cable like an alarm then you could possibly schedule that to play. Hope this helps
Thanks for the video. Are you able to stream two different programs to different speakers. For example: Can I stream SiriusXM to one set of speakers and music from Google Play to another set?
Awesome video, thanks a ton! Appreciate seeing how it works with multiple phones controlling it, haven't seen any other videos cover that yet. I'm looking to set up a sound system for background music for a food shop, and this might just be the ticket... Wonder how it'll do with a group of like 10 of these things! :P
+Portusound Yeah for some reason I mentioned that when I was shooting the video but seems I edited it out. It def has the ability to pass audio through toslink (optical out) a mini toslink cable into speakers that have that input. Thanks for bringing that up. Here's a link to the ones I bought from Amazon to test out: www.amazon.com/FosPower-Toslink-Digital-Connectors-Strain-Relief/dp/B00T8HWUVS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1457799332&sr=8-3&keywords=toslink+optical+cable+mini
hi. just found this awesome video. anyway to have speakers that are powered to the wall and will turn on once the audio starts going through the chromecast? what i mean is... i dont want to be charging the speakers not have to switch them ON/OFF. are there any speakers like that? thanks.
Yara Brandao hi and thanks for watching the video. There are some speakers that are able to turn on once you start casting to the Chromecast attached. I would recommend using a mini toslink cable to connect if the speaker has the port. Some other suggestions are leaving the speakers on all the time or buying a smart plug to turn off and on the power from the wall to your speakers
thanks for the vid! i have a first gen chromecast and am getting ready to start my multi-room set up. Do you know if the regular chromecasts are compatible with chromcast audio for multi room config? thanks again.
+Todd McLain Hey there, your'e not able to use first gen Chromecasts for the multi-room feature. You're only allowed to use multiple Chromecast audio devices to get this to work at the moment. You might want to get them today. I think its the last day for the promo.
steeven coogan it definitely kan! as many as u want rilly if u don't mind hella wires you Kan hook up as many as you want and u Kan keep ure speakers plugged in too and Tha khromekast some how stops all the ground noise too! I gotta admit itss pretty awsome
IS it possible to plug a (chromecast device whit HDMI) in audio receiver or an audio amplifier in order to transmit a digital signal to a DAC of an audio device??????
Samil Ahidjako The Chromecast audio shown in this video doesnt have an HDMI input/output. The regular Chromecast for TV will stream audio from a HDMI source so you should be able to cast your phone screen through a DAC that way but it's complicated and I won't recommend it for regular use. Hope this helps
Chromecast audio converts a digital signal into an analog signal not very high quality .... ... on my audio amplifier a good DAC. I want to know whether regular Chromecast will work with an audio amplifier without TV.
I have one chromecast audio, and I want to play the same music to two different rooms simultaneously, is there any easy way to to this, or do I just get another chromecast audio and make a group?
Lisa Adler hi there, thanks for checking out my video. I'm not sure what your setup is with the speakers. Are you connecting the Chromecast audio directly to the Bluetooth speakers you want in the audio group?
Soji Ojugbele I have two Chromecast audio pucks set up in a group but I want to add one more speaker without buying another Chromecast. Originally I had all three speakers connected via Bluetooth with a third party wifi sync and it sounded horrible with missynced echo.
Lisa Adler well the reason you are able to create a group is because the Chromecast audio devices are on the same wifi network. You would need too add another Chromecast audio to the third speaker in order for it to be in the group. Some speakers like the ue boom can connect to one another via an app but that's the only other way I can see you adding a 3rd speaker without buying a 3rd Chromecast audio. Hope this helps
Soji Ojugbele Thank you for your time. I was just trying to be cheap I guess. I do love the Chromecast audio. The way there group stays perfectly in sync is exactly what I was looking for and the two I have work great!
Not sure about your question but you will need the Chromecast audio and your phone to be on the same wifi network. There is a guest mode that can enable you to cast audio even if your phone has the wifi turned off. Hope this helps
I tried everything. Even called google and even they don't know. Of course i see the group in the app. I delete it and make a new one. Also reset Both casts. Power off and on you know. Then it works. But after a while it stop working and i have to reboot both devices again. But i don't have time for that sh*t to reboot the devices all time when i want to play it.
+Mallie Gezellig fair enough. what kind of router do you use. might have something to do with the connection going to each device. One thing to test would be to see if you can identify the chromecasts on your network when you experience this happening again. lmk
ItsAyoo Sadly not. You can upload up to 50k songs to google play music for free and stream from there. Google makes the process really easy too. Good luck
Hey, good question. Sadly RUclips videos do not play on the Chromecast audio. Only the regular Chromecast or other devices like the nvidia shield, Nexus player, xbox, smart TV's etc
+Daniel Sztruhar maybe sometime in the future. you can leave feedback for Google and see where that goes. I would include some really intriguing use cases for that feature as well
can you use chrome cast through a computer? so if i wanted to play music or a movie from my computer and i want the audio playing from the chrome cast audio, is that possible?
damn that is good. because i remember searching that question on google and people said you can't do it clean and clearly. they said you have to download a certain software. Because I use itunes to play music......would it work from that? so I basically want every single audio that goes on in my computer to play through chrome cast audio. can you do that? or were you just talking about audio you play in a web browser?
2cool0 I was just talking about audio that would be streaming from a browser (chrome) don't think you will be able to cast all audio unless the app or browser is cast enabled like Netflix for example.
hello soji , please can I make or take a call while the music is playing. I want to use the chrome cast audio and my HiFi speakers to play music for my wedding reception at home. i will appreciate if you could reply asap . thanks
I just bought the Chromecast Audio to listen to music from Spotify (on my mac) over my speakers. It doesn't work since you can only use a mobile device.. and you need a premium account for that. Useless for me!! I'll return it!
+Marko DiMauro Thanks for watching. There is a chrome link that should allow you to play music directly from the browser play.spotify.com/browse. You can cast this tab to the chromecast audio with the cast extension from chrome chrome.google.com/webstore/search/cast?hl=en. Don't think you would need premium this way but im not 100% sure. Let me know if this works.
Best video I've seen so far! Nice job 👍🏼
PLEASE make more videos, they're awesome!
MrEvan1932 I've been meaning to make more videos. Appreciate the encouragement
That 3.5 mm jack is also optical audio.
Yup

Alright, thanks for the heads up!

Great video mate I’m going out to buy one now, thank you
thanks for putting this together.
Excellent and informative video! One question, How many mobile phones can be used at the same time?
Arsenal Tengu you can cast from multiple phones to the same Chromecasts. They have to be on the same WiFi network though
Thank you for the review. Chromecast audio is amazing and it's also super cheap. You don't have to purchase Sonos to get that multi-room functionality anymore. What speakers were you using in this video?

Nice little speaker where do you get it?
Soji would you be able to share the link for the special you are talking about in this video. Thanks for sharing video.
Edward Chun This promotion was run almost a year ago when I uploaded this video. There might be some other promotions (US region) during black Friday/Christmas time
Soji Ojugbele thank you for the reply.
Soji Ojugbele
what are those speakers you are using with the chrome casts
They are some portable speakers I got a while ago. They are rechargeable and sound great for small rooms. Similar to these goo.gl/zMlP55
Soji Ojugbele thanks man they are the ones i've been looking for :)
Good buy SONOS! They better update their speakers with bluetooth capabilities to remain competitive.
This device may destroy them.
Great explanation. However if I have my on music downloaded on my phone or device can I steam it to chromecast audio enabled device?
If the music app you are listening to can access local media files on your phone and also has cast built in then yes.
So informative, thanks man!
Hello Soji. I'm looking to download all my old CD's to my portable hard drive, us my laptop as a jukebox and get some chromecast's to sink all the speakers in each room of my flat. can this be done or must the music come from an app on my phone?

your a legend. thank you
the cast icon is missing in google play music but works perfectly fine with spotify/soundclound. Does anyone have a solution?
Jad Maktabi I've noticed it's not always there too. I chose the app and toggle wifi on and off and then reopen Google play music. That usually does the trick. I'm sure an update to the app will fix it. In the meantime it's good to leave feedback in the app so Google is aware.
I’m curious about the chrome cast and the chrome cast audio , can you cast a movie to chrome cast then have the audio of that movie cast to the Chrome cast audio?
Cat Garlo thanks for asking. It's currently not possible to split casting audio to 1 device and video to another
Can you schedule a music? Say I want to have one of these unit play news when I wake up, another unit play different music during breakfast, another play different music when I get home?
Dinesh Patel unfortunately I don't think you will be able to schedule music they way you want it. When you are trying to cast it's something you have to connect to manually each time you want to play music from your phone or tablet.

how about using chromecast audio with headphone? is that ok?
Thanks for the video. Are you able to stream two different programs to different speakers. For example: Can I stream SiriusXM to one set of speakers and music from Google Play to another set?
Thanks for watching. Yes you can stream different media to different Chromecast audio
Awesome video, thanks a ton! Appreciate seeing how it works with multiple phones controlling it, haven't seen any other videos cover that yet. No mention of optical out?
+Portusound Yeah for some reason I mentioned that when I was shooting the video but seems I edited it out. It def has the ability to pass audio through toslink (optical out) a mini toslink cable into speakers that have that input. Thanks for bringing that up.

I am so about to buy one.
Great video, thanks!
thanks for watching
very good review! thank you!
Thanks for watching
Does this create dual mono or a stereo configuration?

hi can you use splitter to hook up 2 speakers in one chromecast audio?
steeven coogan I havent tried it myself but I don't see why not
steeven coogan it definitely kan! as many as u want rilly if u don't mind hella wires you Kan hook up as many as you want and u Kan keep ure speakers plugged in too and Tha khromekast some how stops all the ground noise too! I gotta admit itss pretty awsome
Thanks for the heads up ill try it too. i have 2 gramavox it would be cool if both are connected via chromecast audio

You are going to need a second Chromecast audio in the second room and create a group
Soji Ojugbele damn... okay thanks, great video by the way. Really helped me out
can you use a mini jack splitter and use one device for 2 speakers
Haven't tried that yet but I can link my speakers together and that works. Each speaker has an extra aux port so you can daisy-chain them.
+Soji Ojugbele so these speakers have two aux ports?
+Nathan Kean actually it's one aux cable built it and one aux port available for another cable
+Soji Ojugbele OK I see. do you think the splitter would work?
+Nathan Kean yup
Can someone PLEASE explain how to add regular Bluetooth speakers in a Chromecast audio group. I've heard this is possible, but cannot figure it out
Lisa Adler hi there, thanks for checking out my video. I'm not sure what your setup is with the speakers. Are you connecting the Chromecast audio directly to the Bluetooth speakers you want in the audio group?

Why does the song keeps playing when you lower the volume to the minimum on both devices at 10:05 ? Shouldn't it mute ?
+Jonathan Jobin I assume its because of the speakers I was using. I'll test again with my sound bar and let you know.
+Soji Ojugbele how about the result?
So you need internet if you don't have internet wifi
Not sure about your question but you will need the Chromecast audio and your phone to be on the same wifi network. There is a guest mode that can enable you to cast audio even if your phone has the wifi turned off. Hope this helps
no Wifi in 2017 ?
it works sometimes. i always have to reset it.
does anyone knows how to deal with this problem?
what sometimes works. can you be a bit more specific. are you not seeing your Chromecast audio when you try and cast to it?
I tried everything. Even called google and even they don't know. Of course i see the group in the app. I delete it and make a new one.
Also reset Both casts. Power off and on you know. Then it works. But after a while it stop working and i have to reboot both devices again. But i don't have time for that sh*t to reboot the devices all time when i want to play it.

hi...does works with music files in my external sdcard smartphone or just with sites streaming or apps online?thanks
Marcelo Borges this will work with streaming files only. You can upload up to 50,000 songs on Google play music for free and steam them from there
But I think there are many apps that stream from the SD card for you
3rd party apps like 'Bubble Upnp' and 'toaster cast dlna' might be able to help you stream local media i.e saved on an SD card to Chromecast audio
nice.
does the music have to come from the google play app?
ItsAyoo Not at all. you can stream from Spotify, I heart radio, Pandora and most if not all other music streaming services
+Soji Ojugbele so not straight from the device? thats already downloaded?
ItsAyoo Sadly not. You can upload up to 50k songs to google play music for free and stream from there. Google makes the process really easy too. Good luck
Hi mate, can you play music using youtube on chromecast audio?
Hey, good question. Sadly RUclips videos do not play on the Chromecast audio. Only the regular Chromecast or other devices like the nvidia shield, Nexus player, xbox, smart TV's etc
Soji Ojugbele
Hi.. wondering if we can group the Chromecast and Chromecast audio, so we can play tv and the speaker simultaneously.
Sadly you cant group chromecasts with chromecast audio. The regular chromecasts aren't able to form groups with other devices
Set mine up 3 months ago. CAN play music from youtube (without vid) on c/cast audio.
Is it possible to sync 2 regular chromecasts ? I will be happy if someone could answer that, thx
It's not currently possible to sync two regular Chromecast devices.
What a shame.
+Daniel Sztruhar maybe sometime in the future. you can leave feedback for Google and see where that goes. I would include some really intriguing use cases for that feature as well
It would be so so great, I will use it as a multiroom system, Where can a write them ?
Hit the menu button in the Cast app and go to help and feedback
can you use chrome cast through a computer? so if i wanted to play music or a movie from my computer and i want the audio playing from the chrome cast audio, is that possible?
Yes you can cast the audio to a speaker with a CC audio plugged in and watch the video only portion on your monitor
damn that is good. because i remember searching that question on google and people said you can't do it clean and clearly. they said you have to download a certain software. Because I use itunes to play music......would it work from that? so I basically want every single audio that goes on in my computer to play through chrome cast audio. can you do that? or were you just talking about audio you play in a web browser?

Airfoil is a great solution for this problem.
www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
On sale for 15 bucks now! I am going to get a third and try a USB power bank for portability....
hello soji , please can I make or take a call while the music is playing. I want to use the chrome cast audio and my HiFi speakers to play music for my wedding reception at home.
i will appreciate if you could reply asap . thanks
omolayo chukwusa hey, yes you can make calls and even play audio from other sources on your phone
The original chromecast plugged into hdmi to stereo out box sounds a lot better and it's cheaper.
I you're going to use those little speakers you might as well just use your phone speakers.
Schlo Mo this was used just to test the app and the Chromecast audio. I have 2 sound bars (5.1) that they are hooked up to now.
I just bought the Chromecast Audio to listen to music from Spotify (on my mac) over my speakers. It doesn't work since you can only use a mobile device.. and you need a premium account for that. Useless for me!! I'll return it!
+Marko DiMauro
Thanks for watching. There is a chrome link that should allow you to play music directly from the browser play.spotify.com/browse. Took forever to get to the answer of my question
viděl jsem že tam něco černého
This device falls short, very short.
The chromecast audio falls short?
Good Video though, Thanks. The need to change router settings is alone a problem not worth the hassle
no router change needed,it doesn't fall short at all. you obviously haven't used it or lack the knowledge
I don't know what's short about it. It works perfectly and is extremely clear.
