Great video. I use iPhone and have both Amazon Echo and Google Home in my house. Each has their pros and cons, but I LOVE the audio features of GH so much more. I have multiple Google Home units and Google Chromecast Audio devices and use them all the time like you do in groups to cast music all over the house. Absolutely love it!

Thanks. And I think that both the Chromecast Audio and the Chromecast Ultra devices are highly underrated. They are so affordable and so easy to use. I brag about them all the time.

So, say my bluetooth usb adapter in my pc won’t connect to my phone because my pc is off. If I plug the Chromecast into my speakers (which are connected to my focusrite scarlett solo 2nd gen that is also plugged in to my pc), I would be able to play music from spotify on my phone? Or should I just use my google home mini?
The "use case scenario" for the Chromecast Audio has hifi enthusiasts in mind. Not everyone (at least of a certain age) enjoys listening to their music on portable desktop speakers. I have two of these devices, and each one is connected to an audio amplifier... through the optical port! You can then enjoy your tunes through a countless array of quality stereo speakers. And BTW, I also own a couple of Minis, which are tucked away throughout the house and included in my speaker groups!
How did you connect it via optical.?

This device is only for audio. If you want video as well, I’d look at the regular chromecast.

I have also a chromecast 3rd gen video - and now my question is: How do I set it up so that I get the Video on my TV screen and the sound out on one of my Chromecast Audio Speakers?? Great video!!... Btw chromecast audio should be controlled by google home, i can only say to play music but no other commands like next song or stop, etc. Maybe an update can fix that?

I can play, pause, and skip to the next song of an album when playing music on a Chromecast Audio from a Google Home device. Just tried it now and everything worked fine.
Also interesting is that at some point the Home Mini received an update to allow you to press and hold either side to pause/play music, or stop a timer
6 Months Later have to try again , maybe get the latest update of google home because i only can say "hey google play .....music on chromecast audio" and stary playing bitt when i say "hey google next song " she say :sorry but nothing is playing right now" lol
Hmmmm, maybe try adding the google home and chromecast audio into the same speaker group. Perhaps the way it works is that the google homes in the same speaker group of a chromecast audio are aware of what’s playing on the chromecast audio.
i find i will only benefit from owning one of these is hooking it up to my hi-fi system..but how many of those have a aux input?
Tim Mcmillan same here. I bought the chromecast and just used a $1 mini to rca adapter to plug it into my amp. Works great.
You can actually use optical as well, that being said how hifi can it be without a analog input?
Tim Mcmillan well if you have other speakers in other areas of the house now you can play music simultaneously throughout your whole house, not just the hifi.
Also it works wirelessly. And smart speakers.

How can I stream the audio playing on my TV to google home? Does the chrome cast audio only recieve audio? Can it also be used to send audio say from my TV via the headphone out socket? Advice is appreciated :)

I’ve been running mine off a power bank and it’s very good. This device really is surprising. I’m looking for an sacd player now as another source for comparison. Found a cd the other day which when arrived I notice is a hybrid sacd with red book layer... oh this hobby!

I have 2 google home mini, one in dining roon, second in bedroom, and now i want to connect Radmor 5100 - vintage Polish amplifier from 1978, fully restored to Google Chromecast Audio for internet radio (such as She Radio Florida) and also spotify. I was unsure if i can just speak to gh mini and play this way music at chromecast audio.
Review the DAC in it a nd compare it to other DACS if you can

Is it possible to play say a Netflix movie on your tv with the Chromecast but have the audio come out your other Google Home/Chromecast Audio speakers around your home instead of the tv that the Chromecast is connected to? Or is this something they plan to update in the future? I'm trying to simulate that surround sound experience with movies. Thanks!

no, and it won't happen, something about it not being able to synch audio from video with the speakers, the same reason why you can't group a chromecast audio with a regular (hdmi) chromecast.

I currently have 3 Bose speakers, 2 of which are compatible with the sound touch app. If I get a google audio cast, would I be able to play music on all 3 at the same time?

I don’t have soundtouch with any of my bose products so I’m not going to have a huge amount of experience in this area.

It dose not work in parallel with the chromecast video gen2 so in my opinion it is a disappointment so it is not far away from a Bluetooth that also does not work in conjunction with chromecast video.

What makes it unique is the terrible sound quality.
google has two device to make more money, they are double dipping, amazon echo does it right, both for the same price.
For your situation. I have all of the speakers in my house wired to one location I do not have 3.5mm Jack's in all of my rooms. The echo would not work as distributed audio in my situation but the Google home and chromecast audio work perfectly
I'll give alexa, and her ilk, a miss thanks - it's just far too creepy.

The chromecast audio exists because not everybody is OK with having a hot mic device in the privacy of their own home that is constantly listening to you.
It's no longer a conspiracy, it's a fact.
Almost everything I order on Bay I get 6 months later. Sometimes 8 months. One was actually 10 days. WTF?

i Conekt my cormecast audio, to my bang and Olufsen speakersystem and therefore i dont want to se it, i just bourt the beolap 2000 as a ekstra speaker, and will bye a cromecast more, for it its sound way better than the small speakers, we are talking, hifi high end quality, and being from denmark we can bye them dirt cheap, i pay 40$ sekondhand for my beolap 2000, it cost around 200 in us, i dont want a smartspeaker. i dont nead a smart speaker. cromecast is enuch for me.
The only thing that disappoints me is voice control of groups because you can't use a single command like "hey google, turn the volume of the group to 30 percent and play some music", but you have to set the volume and play music in separate commands and then feel stupid
I think bixby is about the only assistant that can group together commands like that
Google can group commands together using “AND” it’s just this specific string that causes it trouble for some reason. I had the same issues when I tested it.

Google will use all of these microphones around your house for information collecting and advertising targeting. Witch is scary enough in it self, to make me NEVER buy a google home device.

Buy wall foam, put them inside a large picture frames (like fill up the whole room) around you, too much echo, makes it sound like you have a cheap mic. Also get a pop filter. And if you can't afford one, just buy pantyhose and use a wire hanger. If you have a pop filter either buy a new mic or learn how to use ableton/logic pro/etc and master your audio better. Total Waste of Money, it keeps telling me to upload my Music to the Google Play Website, which I DID, and I still can't cast my Google Play Music from my Phone to the Google Audio Cast, SO DISPOINTED AND ANNOYED! Total GARBAGE!
