How is limb lengthening surgery performed with Precice 2?

  • Precice2 is a method recently used in limb lengthening surgery, which includes a self-extending magnetic nail. Interacting the remote control with the magnets in the nail, the distraction process is done to 0.33mm 3 times a day (0,99 mm a day). Up to 15 cm in length can be gained by undergoing 2 separate surgeries.
    In the animation shared by the manufacturer of Precice 2, you can see how height-lengthening surgery is performed with the Precice2 method, which has a very low risk of infection compared to other methods.

    Is this surgical procedure restricted by specific bone quality and health requirements, or can it be safely conducted for individuals with closed growth plates and no health issues that could impede bone recovery, so long as they simply be given with proper care?
    My second question is, is it accurate that the extended portion of the leg becomes thinner post-recovery, compared to its original state? Additionally, does this thinning make the extended leg more vulnerable even after the bone has healed? like for example, a person wants to play an activity that consists of heinous activities
    like basketball, will this affect the person’s playing style even if it was handled with proper care during the lengthening process. this comes for my third question which will be when is the ideal time that the extended leg will be fully recovered?
    you may answer this question optionally: Have there been instances where complications during the surgery led to the necessity of amputating the leg that failed to accommodate the inserted metal material intended for lengthening?

    • @LimbLengthening
      @LimbLengthening  6 месяцев назад +4

      Certainly! Limb lengthening surgery requires good bone quality and overall health, particularly for individuals with closed growth plates. While it's possible to safely perform the procedure with proper care and post-operative rehabilitation, the extended portion of the leg may initially appear thinner and weaker.However, after the bone fully solidifies and heals, the new bone becomes as strong as any other bone in the body. It doesn't get weaker or worse with time. Patients can freely return back to engaging with the physical activities they enjoyed prior to the surgery. You will thus be able to engage in all the physical activities you enjoyed prior to the operation. It takes roughly 1-1,5 years to run and do other heavy activities.
      The success of this procedure heavily depends on the patient's adherence to medical guidance and rehabilitation protocols.
      Finally, we have never had a case which was fatal or a patient’s leg was amputated.
      Regards, WBT - Medzonia.

      Before the operation, our doctor measures each segment and checks the body ratio. Hello, the removal of intramedullary nails is recommended to be performed 1-2 years after the main surgery. Due to the biomechanical and biocompatible properties of intramedullary nails, there is generally no significant concern about them remaining inside the bone. However, the lack of sufficient data or research on the long-term risks and issues associated with the nail staying inside the bone has led many orthopedic specialists to recommend the surgical removal of intramedullary nails in the early stages. Thank you

    • @LimbLengthening
      @LimbLengthening  6 месяцев назад

      Hello, our surgeon does not perform quadrilateral lengthening surgeries due to their high risk. Such procedures can pose a significant risk of embolism and require prolonged anesthesia, which can cause multiple traumas to the legs. Therefore, it is ideal to schedule a second limb lengthening surgery at least 6 to 12 months after the initial procedure. He prefers giving a gap of 6 to 12 months between leg lengthening surgeries for several reasons. Firstly, it allows the bone to heal and form a strong callus, providing stability during lengthening and reducing complications. Secondly, it gives time for the surrounding soft tissues to recover from surgery-related stress, preventing potential complications. Thirdly, it helps avoid problems like infection, nerve damage, and poor bone consolidation that might occur if the second surgery is rushed. The gradual lengthening process also allows the bone to adapt effectively, leading to better outcomes with reduced fracture risk. Lastly, the recovery time enables patients to undergo thorough physical therapy and rehabilitation, ensuring better preparation and increased comfort for the subsequent surgery, thus improving overall well-being and pain management. Regards, WBT - Medzonia.

      Hello, the intramedullary that remains inside the bone is biocompatible, however, it is recommended to have them removed in 1-1,5 years after the surgery. Regards, WBT.

    Hello Sir 👋🏼
    Please kindly reply to my question.
    As a man my height is 5 feet 1 inch (age 24).
    How much height can be possible to increase through this surgery?

      Hello,
      ℹ️With a single procedure, it is possible to increase up to 8 cm (approximately 3 inches) in the femur and up to 7 cm (about 2.76 inches) in the tibia. These are the maximum limits that are considered safe, and it is generally not recommended to exceed them for health and aesthetic reasons.
      ℹ️Our surgeon does not perform quadrilateral lengthening surgeries due to their high risk.
      The amount of lengthening that can be safely achieved in a single surgery depends on various factors, such as the age and overall health of the patient, the location of the bone that needs to be lengthened, muscle flexibility, nerve durability and the surgical technique used.
      It's important to note that pushing the limits of safe lengthening can increase the risk of complications, such as nerve damage, joint stiffness, infection, muscle contracture, and bone healing problems. It's essential to consult with a qualified and experienced orthopedic surgeon who can assess your individual case and provide guidance on the safe and realistic limits of lengthening for you.
      Regards,
      WBT - Medzonia.

      Hello, thank you for sharing your opinion. Decisions regarding limb lengthening are highly individual and should ultimately be made by the person considering the procedure. Every individual has unique circumstances, desires, and personal reasons for exploring limb lengthening as an option. While it's important to respect diverse perspectives, it's also crucial to remember that people have different motivations for seeking limb lengthening, whether it be for medical reasons or personal concerns. Therefore, it's important to approach the topic with empathy and respect for each person's unique circumstances and perspective. Regards, WBT - Jana
