2:05 to 2:30 is a nice trick that I think should have been pointed out. When flash scouted Rich's base, he turned the SCV around to prevent it entering the Nexus vision range. Then he did a loop-de-loop to make it look like he came from the completely opposite direction. Rich's probe then left going the completely wrong direction.
Noticed that as well. It also addresses Artosis' point about sending a probe to check that area since Flash gave Rich enough time to check that area while also playing the mind game of making it seem like his SCV is too late to do a bunker rush while also making it seem like he is scouting from the opposite side of his actual base. Clever stuff!
10:45 proof arty is blind when he watches flash games those tanks in front, vultures stuck in the back, the whole engagement is FUBAR for terran but arty is blinded by the light
Yeah that's the only mistake I noticed. Vultures off to the side and blindly trying to siege up the hill, and even blocking the vultures from coming in faster on the left with his sieging.
I think he was trying to avoid having 7 vultures getting nuked by a single scarab but his tanks ended up walling off a path to be able to frontline once the actual fight started. Either way it's a tricky engage since he's pushing a high ground position and trying to do so before legs finish, which he knows will pop very soon. It's a very rough position for anyone to work with.
This is what I noticed too, felt like the vultures needed to be in front to body block the melee zealots and protect the tanks. I get that Flash was trying to get up on the high ground so he doesn't miss shots. I guess even the best have a hard time playing this game perfectly since there is so much to do. The speed of his push is impressive though.
Its the same mistake he made in several other games against protoss over the last couple months. Noticed it a few times before, he does everything right and then doesnt use the vultures to bodyblock the zealots and draw scarab hits so he loses his tanks too quickly. If he fixes this one thing then he will have 100% winrate vs protoss.
"Quantity has a quality all its own" is a phrase that is usually attributed to Joseph Stalin but seems to originate in the US defense community in the late 1970s.
Ruth M. Davis, US Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Advanced Technology, said "quantity has a quality all its own" in 1974, but attributed the aphorism to Lenin.
I think Terrans need some time in the workshop to come up with a better follow-up for the bunker push against the nexus first. There are so many games where the Terran kills the nexus with minimal losses, then Protoss goes 2 gate dragoon range to kill the bunkers, and then into shuttle reavers and does a ton of damage while safely expanding to 3 base. Meanwhile Terran is running around his base with a couple units trying to push the reaver out and losing scvs. This just puts Protoss ahead anyway. They either need to start making some goliaths and goliath range to counter the shuttle reaver effectively or do a followup push with siege mode to stop the Protoss from fast expanding again. Just killing a nexus and nothing else for the investment of those marines, the bunkers, and the scv idle time, it doesnt seem to be worth it anymore. Protoss just gives up the nexus and gets ahead anyway.
10:30 just shows how SC is a game of inches. Flash is just slightly too fast with his move up the ramp, leap frogging slightly too aggressively, and then pays for it. At the time that Rich attacks, Flash only has 4 siege mode tanks. He also has no vultures/goliaths in front of his tanks. If he would have say, 6 tanks sieged, and vultures at front, I guess the game ends right there
Artosis, it was not a quote from Napoleon anywhere I'm aware of. I think it's something some Americans came up with recently and attributed it to someone else. Marx and Engles have an idea in their writings that does mean essentially the same thing, which they derived from Greek philosophers. "Quantity is a quality all of its own."
Great quote from Artosis the wise. I actually thought it was Stalin originally, but now I have to research it. Who would've thought Artosis would be bringing out history lessons!
That key attack should have won, instead it was cleaned up. I believe that the execution wasn't great, the vultures got stuck behind the tanks because the 3 SCVs blocked the flow paths. This allowed the slow zealots to get on top of the tanks.
Strong agree on that! if the vultures were positioned better, those zealots would have been toast with very little damage. But them getting in just melted the front tank line. It looked like flash wasn't looking at the exact second protoss pulled the trigger.
Arty i think flash got a bug similar to your bunker that didnt build bug. Check 4:00. The marine didnt enter the bunker. I guess the marine could've been sent before completion but its flash so he definitely knows the timing.
Something I picked up on that nobody seems to be talking about yet. At about 9:35 Flash needs to send his floating engineering bay and barracks as it seems to take about a full minute to get to the Protoss base. He wants those as meat shields to assist in the battle but they arrive about 20 seconds too late to make a difference. I know Flash was experimenting with using floating buildings as part of a push and this is another example of that, they were just so late that nobody even noticed him doing this. Also, the RUclips timer and in game timer are perfectly synced! I never noticed this...or is it for this video only?
Quantity has a quality all its own. Cited in 1978 by Ruth M. Davis, U.S. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Advanced Technology, attributed to Vladimir Lenin:
Do you think Flash was too aggressive with mines around 13:00? He dropped mines top center, then right in front of P's 4th base. Thinking if he spreads those mines around a little more he would see that move out and at least be in position and sieged up? Maybe it wouldn't have mattered with the supply dif.. but idk anything - just a non-bw player watching and talking out loud.
On the computer issue side, if you have a 13th or 14th gen Intel CPU then it's probably running into the accelerated degrading issues that those series have been having.
Thank you. If you have the information, could you say the date (including year) that the game was played? It would be very nice in the future to go back through the years and see exactly How and when the game developed
Flashed tricked the toss by pulling back once he saw the nexus and sending the scv back in from a different angle. All the small things he does are great to watch. Even if he is abusing a broken faction to dominate.
I hear you on the kids it feels like one long cold during the school year oh and my StarCraft freezes a lot too, from what i understand its because every time there is an update of my OS it fucks up.
Do you think the 3 short games you casted before of flash, if that toss player played it out after his nexus was down he'd have a good chance of winning?
One of the worst engages I saw flash do. But the leapfrogging was fast and scary. I think he's at that point didnt care if he win or lose, the "study" was done.
Just an armchair expert call here, but... I always feel like Terrans siege way too early in the initial move out. I'd love to see some kiting/tactical retreating with unsieged tanks just to wittle down those zealots. That tank splash damage is brutal.
If he sieges too early, the zealots simply stay back until legs are finished or reavers force earlier/ more sieges. Realistically this game was lost the moment the 3rd Protoss base wasn't punished.
He had a window to keep pushing marines and a few scv to kill the zealot and bunker within range of a gateway before goons got range and numbers advantage. Seems weird to rush and then expand instead of keeping the pressure on?!
Could Flash have done heavy bio pressure after the initial rush? If it's scouted it would've forced Rich to tech into reaver instead of being able to double expand to catch up economically
A noob here, my guess it's probably a very weak move in that situation. Protoss has the potential to have reavers very quickly. I've seen it work, but it's usually a move of desperation rather than a good follow up. Basically, Flash was ahead and did not need to take risks like invest into an all in bio push that could be hard countered quite easily. He would need to build multiple rax and an academy and upgrade stim minimum. Terran becomes very heavily all in and you cannot beat Protoss with bio without the element of surprise. It's unnecessarily risky when you are ahead. My noob guess/opinion.
Doesn't work that way. Non upgraded bio without medics, it's such a bad investment because, simply talking, everything protoss has smashes bio, except goons.
13:02 So proud of Arty quoting Stalin directly. Even if he doesn't know who is the author of the quote, it is very important to spread that kind of mindset to beat Protos heavy-gas armies.

Good morning Flashtosis!
I think Terrans need some time in the workshop to come up with a better follow-up for the bunker push against the nexus first.
