I think Mitchell is my favorite guest so far. So passionate, and the fact that his students call him up to brag about their accomplishments says a lot. What a king.
Out of all the teachers I've had, there's one I every so often go chat with & tell what I've been up to. And every time he is amazingly supportive and proud. So I my experience such teacher are quite rare, but good that this Mitchell guy has found his calling in teaching.
I agree. His personality and speech style are perfect for teaching, and he clearly has a knowledge base and perspective worth sharing. Plus he rolls with the insanity!
He is a very good guy to be in the position he is in. He has passion and enthusiasm to pass on :)
In his review, he gave feedback and support to Josh in what could be improved but in the sweetest way. So lovely
If I wasn't already sold on him, Mitchell's owl impression made sure I was! 😅
I would actually love to see them send josh to a legit culinary school for a week or something or a culinary class to see how he does or how quickly he drives the teacher insane because what he does shouldn't work but it does.
I second this notion.
I want to see Josh do a battle with Ben from SortedFood. Ben is an actual chef and its boasted about for 10 years on that channel, it would be amazing for him to go up against a not professionally trained chef.
It’d be like Mavarik at Top Gun.
lmao I completely agree on the fact he would drive them insane 😂
If you have ever seen the anime food wars i feel like that would be josh lol
Mitchell is like a tough teacher who really cared about his student deeply
He’s “like” that? I think showing up for Nicole here proves that in real life! This is a man who doesn’t take himself overly-seriously.
As a teacher, As soon as he appeared on screen, I knew that he was the real deal. Man's a great teacher.
Those are the best teachers
@@ReidGameX Sometimes, people have speech patterns that our different from ours. No need to criticize or question the choice of simile (whether purposeful or accidental) when you agree!
teachers outside the classroom are often much more chill lol i doubt he was this cool in class but who knows lmao
Mitchell saying “You’re not trash, you’re worthy. You’re a good man,” actually made me tear up. We stan a wholesome owl
I lost it at the owl bit- I was not expecting someone who seemed so serious to pull out a "whoo-whoooo". Mitchell seems to be a wonderful human all around and an amazing teacher!
Saw your comment long before it, and I CRACKED UP!!!!! That was SO well played!
He did give me Wan Shi Tong, the owl spirit from avatar type vibes
For the record, I’ve NEVER thought Josh has lied to us about his food tasting good. I have, however, thought that his (and Rhett and Link’s) taste buds have been exposed to so much… uh… unique cuisine over the years that I think he and I might have different definitions of “tastes good”.
So true. I remember Josh tasting a mystery dish and just remarking that it was a bit sour and I think Lilly almost throwing up when tasting it.
I wonder if Josh ever goes home feeling outshined by Nicole, or Nicole goes home feeling like she knows more than Josh and has to pretend that she doesn't.
@@jaybravo2199 i think it's where josh and nicole actually compliment each other. She is more classically trained and josh is trial and error. Josh is willing to try about everything and she helps josh to do it right
@@jaybravo2199 They seem to have different strengths. Josh is better at bold flavors and overall world cuisine. Nicole makes more refined, balanced dishes and specializes in the cuisines of particular countries.
"tastes good" and edible are different things and sometimes I think they have forgotten that or that the line is so small now 🤣
The "I don't want to disappoint cooking dad" coming off Josh and Nicole xD Wow Mitchel really has those powers
Ah hi! Big fan of your videos, hope all is well :)
He seems so gently supportive... but I also understand why Nicole would cry.
"If I were hungry I'd eat another one.."
Josh looks up to him
"...I'm not"
😂
Mitchell was genuinely the best guest I've seen. He tried to give Josh constructive critique and was honest in his reasoning. He talked about being a teacher and how good it was for him for how his students were his kids. Amazing guest. 10/10
agree!
Real talk, can we get Josh to host a master class on nacho based cookery?
Masters class in crumbing things with cheeto dust
I’d pay money to watch that.
I would love to be able to make nachos without making it a meaty cheese dip
Get a skill share sponsor and have him host a class on it
I’d love to see Josh slightly elevate and than super elevate a plate of nachos.
you can tell this dude is one of those teachers you're scared of because you want so badly to impress them, and not because they're cruel and talking down to you constantly. he was so kind and thoughtful! and really funny too! Nicole had a great teacher
Beyond Mitchell being such a good sport and giving great critiques, he has such an awesome presence for video. The close up style lighting and his deep set eyes contrasts with his awesome measured voice.
never knew Admiral Thrawn teaches cooking
@@stremmify right!? His features are so strong I really enjoyed him on this video
Kinda reminds me of Steve Burns in a way lol
Geez, get a room 🙂…although, you’re absolutely right. The guy is a natural on camera; he was fascinating and charismatic. I hope he becomes a regular guest.
Easily my favorite of this series, which I already loved. Mitchell wasn't kidding when he said he found his calling as a teacher. Natural, charismatic leader.
I love how they became more comfortable around each other and started joking with each other. This was a great episode.
I want an episode where Josh cooks for Gordon without a special ingredient just really tries to impress him
^^^
Or the special ingredient is beef wellington. Like every course needs to incorporate a whole wedge of wellington.
100%
That will never happen josh is to bitter of a person to do it. Vise versa
@@BigDaddy-vr2ut not true lol
Mitchel for sure has that vibe where he could probably make people cry with his critiques but the critique is greatly appreciated because you know he cares and is a great teacher. So when you get a compliment from him, it's not only an accomplishment to be proud of, but you know he isn't just saying it to make you feel good.
He tells you what could be improved and what isn't good. That kind of advice is always appreciated.
"I can make a C feel like an Olympic Medal, and I can make an A feel like a slap in the face."
Holy hell, mitchell was 11/10, meshed so well with everyone.
Seeing how proud Nicole was of herself at the end is everything! School can be a drag, but getting a good grade still holds weight, even as an adult.
I want a series with Mitchell Frieder coming back and doing crash course cooking lessons for Josh with a before and after dish showcasing improvement in technique.
I just love how Nicole’s laughing in the background, while her old culinary instructor(Mitchell) just roasts her current boss(Josh).
He’s like the anti Gordon Ramsay
mitchell was such a lovely guest, very encouraging in all his critique! i wish i had someone like him to teach me cookin, such passion!!! nd delicious soundin recipes, esp cosiderin the base ingredience
You say that but I'm sure hes made thousands of students cry in shame over the years, lol. Most culinary teachers do.
I LOVE how Mitchell said "don't go into opening a restaurant, it drags people down, and you're having so much fun here."
I had help opening a restaurant and it nearly ruined my life.
Keep making dreams become food!
The way Mitchell gently and savagely tore into Josh about that salt was perfect.
I don't write youtube comments ever. I need to say this is the ideal format for the impress a critic series. Your former teachers of cooking. Josh's grandma, Nicole's Culinary Mentor, Trevor's "Professional Baker Aunt", etc. Do more of these!!!
by far the most entertaining and genuine guest on one of these episodes. sure there have been charismatic guests, but Mitchell is the first guy who i feel like i'd want to hang out with and just be friends with
Yeah, really. Such a nice character
The way Mitchell talks, the words that he uses, and the way he so effortlessly converses with Josh… I feel like this is Josh in the future. Exactly how he is now, but not talking much slower 😂
Hearing "Because... he will know" from Nicole is such a mood
I cannot adequately express, as an elder millennial, my adoration for Josh and his willingness to just be himself. It's truly what my generation should aspire to. Unapologetically ourselves, chaotic, and just here for a good time. Also a great guest, it was really nice to see a culinary teacher give solid critique and praise.
When Josh starts talking about his french teach Madame Keith and you start to think there can't be that many french Lee's sandwich loving Madame Keith's in the world and then finally realize you went to the same high school at the same time and probably ate french food at french club lunches together
His years of instructing really showed. He is a super good teacher! His critiques were all super well informed and genuinely useful, even for gimmicky meals.
Mitchell easily gave some of the most constructive and detailed feedback to today's dishes. Absolutely fabulous episode.
Mitchell’s owl impression 😂 What an incredible guest
I love seeing people who are passionate about teaching a really specific art form like this. I’m a theatrical designer and I find just as much joy in teaching and working with students as I find from the design and production itself.
This guy is the perfect creative/academic teacher. Very knowledgeable yet humble, with a kind, warm demeanor. Doesn’t pull his punches in areas that could “improve,” wording important…never hurtful or derogatory and highlights the positives and what he thinks is not only working but approaching a revelation. Definition of what constructive criticism should look like. You can tell Nicole wanted to be her best bc she knows hes honest and tough but also respects him.
The way Mitchell gently reassured Josh after he said he didn't get to go to culinary school just warms my heart so much! *Protect Mitchell at all costs!*
Mitchell is the instructor for our company Hospitality Training Academy in Los Angeles! So awesome to see this on a show I love
Bring Mitchell back! He is funny, plays well on camera, and is a genuine delight
mitchell could be a voice actor. his voice is pure honey
I think he sounds kinda like Jeff Goldblum.
Mitchell was such a great addition to this episode! I loved how wise and thoughtful his feedback was. Also seeing Nichole nervous was so sweet. This was such a joy all around
The look of shame that came over Josh's face when getting scolded over the salty and pastey 2nd course just brought me so much joy lmao
Can we get this guest again? I really like his kind yet honest personality
I like this guy, he is very mild in his way of speaking but doesn't pull his punches. He isn't being critical for the sake of being critical, he's backs every piece of critique up with constructive feedback! Best guest ever! (and there've been a lot of really good ones imo)
I want more Mitchell content. I know he’s a professional and probably doesn’t have the time but he was so lovely.
Josh, he straight up says what type of chefs he loves and you are that! Nicole. you can tell he’s proud of where you’re at and HE LIKE YOUR DESSERT! congrats the both of you.
I don't think I have seen a single guest make them as nervous as this man lol. Loved how he was using this as a teaching moment too!
Mitchel has such a certain air to him. He is so supportive and he does so in a way that makes the people around him seek his approval, and any critique from him just STABS YOU RIGHT IN THE SOUL no matter how gentle it is.
Major Grandpa vibes. But like the good grandpa on your mothers side, not like your paternal grandpa who is always angry and (more than) a little bit racist
Man every guest you get for this show is 100/100. What an inspirational guy
The conversation at the very end when josh kind of just slid into the frame and then Mitchell wouldn’t stop talking about the salt, followed by everything afterwards too it was just hilarious
I honestly really love this dude. He seems so very thoughtful and quite careful with his criticism. It's not brash nor boring.
Mitchell is such a gem! I wish all teachers/instructors could bring the level of passion, care, and constructive criticism that he does. He perfectly built Josh up while also giving him actionable advice/tips. Seems like a great guy.
i love how nice and brutal he was lmaooo
It's okay I worked in a kitchen and got the nickname babyeyes because the SECOND an onion was cut no matter where I was I start crying....
This man is such a lovely person, I'd love to have him as a teacher
This guy reminds me of when I was going to Art Institute. I was not culinary, but in the game design classes there were so many passionate and encouraging teachers that really cared. Mitchell here just gave me some wonderful flashback memories.
Mitchell telling Josh that he didn't go to culinary school either and reassuring him made my heart so happy. Very sweet, this episode was awesome
This man makes me want to go to culinary school.
Love this series! The more Josh puts his chops on the line the more I’m impressed
1:36 "throw it against the wall"
Ah yes, the YSAC method, can't go wrong with that.
Always works !
I really really enjoyed this episode.
It was fun to see Mitchell, and his presence calmed down the normal mental energy you normally get on these videos.
There is so SO much respect there for Mitchell and it rubbed off on Josh :)
one of my favorite episodes with a guest to the studio so far. i loved Mitchell's energy through the whole video, guy may be getting up there in years but hes obviously still has that spark of passion for what he does.
I like how he reassures josh in the end but at the same time reiterates what can be improved. Critiquing others must be difficult at times but he has a good, slightly playful but genuine, attitude. He critiques with purpose and he does so keeping in mind not only how he experiences the dish but the tastes of others.
This man gives Jeff Goldblum vibes, I love it
You can tell he is a teacher because of the thought and intentionality of his constructive criticism
Mitchell is such a nice person, even dissuading Josh's self-depreciating humour.
When Josh was joking like “I’m garbage chef” and Mitchell took it so seriously and was like “you’re a good man” 🥺
He’s such a sweet man I loved watching him
You can just TELL this man is such a kind, encouraging, teacher that still pushes his students to do their best work. This is my favorite food critic episode so far ❤️
Mitchell just seemed so nice about it all! You should have him cook something on the show with Nicole!
I loved this critic. I really appreciated his ability to provide forthright and valuable feedback while still being kind. He says his passion for teaching is even greater than his passion for cooking and this exercise lends a lot of credibility to that statement in my eyes.
This was my teacher in Culinary school at the Art Institute in LA. He was awesome
Mitchell is the exact opposite of Gordon Ramsey. He seems like he's very patient and encouraging. Just seems kind as well as very smart. What an awesome dude.
Gordon Ramsay is very patient....with people that listen and try to learn.
He does shows teaching children how to cook and he is very patient and tame.
You should watch some of Ramsay's UK content, he's very different from the character that has been constructed for US Television
As others have suggested, watch a season of “Master Chef, Junior.” Ramsay has some incredible moments with the kids and shows a much gentler side than the character he normally plays for TV.
This was way more humble than I expected and I love it.
Really loved Mitchell as a guest! His passion for cooking and teaching really shone through! 10 out of 10 would love to see him in another mythical episode! Or maybe as a guest for a will it? Episode?
He was such a delight! 🥺 can see he's got the best intentions and would be such a great mentor !
this whole video was precious on many levels. Mitchell seems like the perfect teacher; that special balance of blunt with lightheartedness and he clearly cares about nurturing the desire to learn and try and grow.
God I loved the guest Mitchell today, so damn wholesome. He's got such dad energy haha
glad to see someone on here with a normal tolerance for salt!
but seriously, i loved that mitchell didn’t go too easy on them and gave genuine critiques that were still very kind and encouraging. you can tell he’s good at his job!
I’ve been thinking about it for a while, now that there’s 5 kitcheneers, can we do a Sorted Food style Pass It On Recipe Relay? The dynamics here would be absolutely insane to see!
I don't think I've ever been as happy and excited for Nicole as I was when Mitchell rated her dish. You could really tell how anxious she was serving him again.
Mitchell is so wonderful. So heartwarming and kind. Please bring him back again!
"You don't put that garbage in front of people" - Dagger in Josh's heart, 2022.
Wow. What an awesome guy. So knowledgeable. Direct, but still kind and you can tell he's eager to see you improve.
Omg. This guy is great. I wish he'd join the staff and do like a "workroom walk thru" every episode to just make Josh crap his pants.
"This is good, very creative! The thing is, there's a trick to braising wild boar with skittles and that's to not make it taste like garbage!" Lol
Mitchell is so mentally healthhy :p it's amazing to see him just be like 'no stop dragging yourself, you are worthy, you're a good man' and 'no the buck stops with you, don't drag your team into it!' He's so sincere! It's kinda refreshing
Mitchell gives off the same safe yet stern vibe my therapist does. It’s sooooo comforting listening to critique from from.
I'm losing it at Josh essentially quoting Hannibal, the wedding singer and pineapple express in one video. Oh my god. Thank you for your service
This was such an awesome episode! I could tell that he absolutely loves teaching, and just wanted to help in whatever way he could.
He's so wholesome!!! What a kind and intuitive human!
I absolutely loved this. The stories and the honest critique, you can see what a good teacher he is. I love Mitchell as a guest and hope he comes back!
I would watch Mitchell Frieder* (I had to correct the autocorrect) read the phone book, just saying. He's amazing and his passion for food and, more importantly, for education, made me a little verklempt. Love this episode
aww he’s such a sweetheart best guest so far
25:22 "Then you throw it away...."
Some of the best advice I feel that new chefs don't heed.
Watching and listening to someone who is passionate about their craft is so rewarding. What a wonderful guest Mitchell was!
Nicole looked so nervous and kinda shy when she came out 😆. Never seen her make that face before
"you're having so much more fun here. Restaurants just drag people down. Stay here"
The constant wisdom. Love this guy.
Mitchelle is delightful! He seems like a really nice guy who would be a tough teacher, but also has a sense of humor and will tell you when you’ve done well as well as giving you truly constructive feedback.
by far my favorite guest so far 🥺 I would love for this man to teach me, and I love how specific and straightforward his comments were! I've been in the culinary industry since I was 15 years old (4 years now) and I cannot wait for culinary school 🥺 more than anything I truly want to teach others not only how to cook, but also how to find joy and passion in cooking itself. Hearing this man's story inspired me quite a bit and I hope I can become as good a teacher as he is someday 🥰
Nicole pours perfect amount in dessert.
Nicole's brain: I THINK IT NEEDS A LITTLE MORE OR HE IS GONNA HATE IT AND THE DESSERT IS RUINED AND IM GONNA FAIL AT LIFE!
I was so happy that Nicole got a good grade from her old teacher! She deserved it! This was a fun episode and Mitchell was a great guest. Really got those favorite teacher vibes off him.
Mitchell’s criticism is SOOOO constructive and encouraging. Like helping you know what you need to do NEXT time you make the dish. I WOULD LOVE to learn under him.
