Maybe events could occur regardless of your presence, basically an always active and moving world that doesnt feel like it revolved around the player. Because in reality, in a world like this there would be endless conflict in all of these regions, and through this - replaying the game could be really eye opening. Ive always loved the idea of a game that lets you fail, so you can still 'finish' the game but only saving 10% of the world you could potentially save. So it would be organically discovering things like zelda BOTW, but with a bit less direction towards specifc goals i.e ganon. Basically I just want a simulatated world that I have to work hard to be a hero in, not just when i go to a new town/area there is a conflict ripe for my assistance everytime, y'know snakebuoy?
Dead Rising kinda does it. The point of the game is to save as many people as you can, but if you don't optimize your time enough, or aren't strong enough, survivors will be killed, and windows for events will expire. I think Chrono Trigger is also famous for being one of the first games to do it too, but until I have played it, I can't judge.
That sounds really cool, but realistically would probably be so resource intensive that I don't know if it's practically doable in a world that's big enough for the game concept to work

I know programming and if programmed correctly, it wouldn't be too resource-intensive. You don't need to actually have events occurring in the background. You just need sets of different "starting conditions" with the particular set which you encounter when you arrive in an area being set by whether or not you've done certain other actions within a certain time frame.

This video came out AFTER Breath of the Wild. How did that not come up when discussing the glider? Anyways, if you wanted a game that would take the best elements of Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Shadow of the Colossus, this would be that game. Of course, with it also being based off of a Miyazaki movie. . . yeah, this would have the potential to be the greatest game ever made. (Though, if we were going just based on the movies, I would definitely pick Castle in the Sky for an adaptation. Understandable why Jakey would pick Nausicaa though, as it has much more material to go off of).
Perhaps that segment was filmed before the game and Jakey did not want to rewrite his entire script based on this new game. Also, why would you pick Castle in the Sky? I am interested to hear your thoughts.
BOTW took pretty big inspiration from ghibli movie. The glider in breath of the wild, actually inspired by nausicaa btw. There is a video about it, and if you see some character design, such as the monk maz koshia. Its face and symbol have similarities with one of the monk in nausicaa that act as antagonist. Basically opposing nausicaa as she is the chosen one / the blue clad one.
4 years later and this is still my favorite video of yours cause it's such a good idea. I just finished reading the manga series that I only know about because of you. I'm still holding onto hope that somebody will make this game
Nausica has always been my most beloved and favorite movie. I was my first ghibli movie and i fell in love with the world and charecters. I got the ghibli collectors edition specifically to get that movie. Its nice to see some recognition
I remember seeing this film on Toonami, and then most recently on HBO Max. This film holds up still incredibly well, especially considering living through the COVID-19 pandemic
No matter how good other films are Nausicaa will always have a place in my heart as the favourite. Just finished the manga and my God I had no clue how in depth miyazaki went. An absolute masterpiece no doubt.
I'm now intensely sad that I don't exist in a universe where this game exists. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is easily my favourite Ghibli film, to play a game in that world, embodying its messages would be a pure joy. Damn Jakey :P
I think the gliding could be similar to the flying in a mobile game called Sky: Children of The Light. The mechanism is extremely satisfying but also limiting, so you are encouraged to level up your cape/glider.
The Phantasy Star games are also heavily inspired by Nausicaa (not so much in plot but definitely in visual style, especially 2 and 4.) The first six Final Fantasy games, on the other hand, were basically repeated attempts to make a Laputa: Castle in the Sky video game.
What fascinates me in the studio ghibli? it's his faltering thanks to his general manager Hyao Myazadore (I think I was wrong somewhere) to make incredible films and the list could grow as for example the coming of someone who could jostle everything: "The boy who survived" among others ...
Dude, my emotions can't take it. And I kinda don't want Nausicaa to get tarnished by the sheer possibility of a bad game, some had been made back in the day, they were not good. Nausicaa, no matter how great a game based on it could be, should stay untouched as a legendary film and manga series that will be remembered throughout the ages, like other works of extraordinary art. BTW, Tater? What the fuck, Jakey, it's Teto!
ok i LOVE Studio Ghibli, Castle in the Sky was the second movie I saw (in general). The only way I could see this as a game is to have the zelda team, the old eathbound team, and studio Ghibli all working for at least 2 years to make some new game that isn't too story drivin but not too open ended.
Dude I’m rewatching this for like the hundredth time and I can’t tell you enough how much I want this to exist. All your ideas for this is just on point and exactly what I think would be good in a Nausicaa game. Also thank you for saying her name right lol.
Despite Miyazaki's depiction of violence in many of his films (with Mononoke being the most graphic), I think a Nausicaä game should avoid violent combat systems as much as possible. Miyazaki is wary of 21st century media as it is; I doubt he would be pleased to think his baby was being bastardized into a cheaply gratifying spinoff that didn't respect the source. He has always been careful to ensure his depictions of conflict resonate with children, teaching young audiences about human nature before they are old enough to fully comprehend the depth and reality of it all. That's why we continue to love his films into our adulthood -- when we watch his movies, we're revisiting and reinforcing the values he instilled in us as kids. A Nausicaä game would be best served with minimal combat, instead relying on diplomacy, environmental navigation, and especially resourcefulness to resolve conflicts. Not only would this be a reflection of Miyazaki's pacifist convictions, but it would also be a great opportunity for an open world game to step away from its formulaic tropes. In fact, a system of conflict resolution that excludes violence could open the doors to an entirely new, benchmark approach to interactive worldbuilding, playing to the strengths of games as a medium. There are thousands of games that simulate war, but in how many games can I actively bring peace through the process of discovery? Solid Snake can tranquilize enemy fortresses to denuclearize a rampant military industrial complex, but Kojima's dense narrative is barely suitable for adult interpretation, let alone the audience of young and old alike that Miyazaki has always maintained. Violence ≠ maturity. There is a wisdom in love that Miyazaki chooses to depict, because it is necessary to the stories he tells us. Alls I'm sayin is, the world doesn't need a Ghibli-flavored Witcher/Fallout/Horizon ZD. A game that adapts Miyazaki's work ought to be as unique as his voice. Bridging the gap between Hayao Miyazaki's 20th century voice and the distinctly modern medium of games should involve careful consideration of the responsibility to represent him respectfully and powerfully. His movies are not garish, shallow consumer media; they are the defining filmography of animation as high art. His hypothetical games should elevate their respective form, just as his films did.
My dream project! You literally laid it out like it was straight out of me brain. Also Ive been listening to the intro song a lot lately, and that song alone is more immersive then 99 percent of videos games. Loving your stuff, killer work
This is easily some of your most underrated work Jakey. This and Egoraptor's Sequelitis were the two most influential video series for myself and my now extinct channel on this account. It's just such a pure, simple and genuine idea, _If Movies Were Games_ I wonder how my channel might have been different if I'd never found this.
Ive thought about literally this same exact concept before, except instead of an open world game like this (which tbh sounds more cool than my idea) ive always thought about it as a game like civ, where you pick from the kingdoms and try to grow your kingdom in a unique overworld with different resources, and risks, from the movie. (I just saw my own earlier comment I hadnt realised ive seen this before)
"Discovery, harmony, love and anti-violence, with a protagonist as equally human and vulnerable as she is badass and heroic" - such a perfect way to put it
I'm here for Nausicaä: Breath of the Wild. I'd love to explore the Dorok tribes and the ruins of the old world's cities. I will, however, not stand for the royal insects being referred to as electrical resistance.
Gears have started turning in my head now, though. An actual open world 3D game would be out of the question for a hobby project, but something that mixes 8-bit "Zelda 2" gameplay with visual novel mechanics could be both interesting and doable.
This is the first piece of anime I've ever seen, and a movie I remember watching over and over as a child. Thank you for covering this amazing movie, I enjoyed your ideas.
I'm 13 (14 in less than a week), and it has been my goal to create a wondrous masterpiece of an open world game since I was introduced to the concept of: "you can go anywhere and do anything." Except at my age, I haven't the know-how to do any of that. The closest I've come to creating a game was conceptualizing vast worlds and then drawing them in this blue notebook I have and keep all of my juicy ideas in. But other than that, it's been only daydreams and fantasies in my head. This video has made me want to seek ways to introduce myself to game-designing and work on projects such as described in this video. I now have at least a faint idea of what I wish to do with my life, and this video inspired and motivated me to do so. I'm glad to find someone who shares the same interests of me.
Honestly the part that would get me the most stoked would be the different and cool concepts and environments that could come from the world. Like seriously, the part where she fell underneath the sea of decay and discovered it was all pure actually made me get out my seat
Sometimes I fall asleep to Jakey vids, because they feel like a warm hug from a friend that not only makes you feel safe, but also never fails to make you laugh.
Holy shit. I'm an aspiring game developer and, after watching Nausicaa for the second time a few months ago I fell in love with it's world. After finishing it I *knew* I wanted my first game to be very similar to Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, taking a large amount of inspiration from it, and other open world games like BotW. This is amazing and I can't believe someone else had the same idea, much less lord jakey himself. Omfg this was amazing.
We all know its made by Vietnamese child labour outsourced by le Chinese government and the dub, for your kind information, is done by the Indian tech support who stole your credit card number last week.
Having an overarching storyline you could conclude at the end after completing most of the open world content would be a neat way to wrap things up with the manga ending. I think people who had only seen the movie would be absolutely shocked at how hopelessly dark the manga ending was. Would spark a lot of word of mouth as people tell other folks 'you aren't going to believe the ending to this game'.
Man growing up with these films and all of Miyazaki, I honestly really appreciate you making this video. Really good vid though its one sort of one of the first I have watched from you.
Nakey Jakey I hate you Because The secret Life of arrietty is also a great movie and I would think arrietty would be a great video game like Pikmin like exploring around the world and I was just kidding love the video

Im sure there are games that get close, but maybe not completely
Dead Rising kinda does it. I think Chrono Trigger is also famous for being one of the first games to do it too, but until I have played it, I can't judge.

This is easily some of your most underrated work Jakey. This and Egoraptor's Sequelitis were the two most influential video series for myself and my now extinct channel on this account. It's just such a pure, simple and genuine idea, _If Movies Were Games_
I wonder how my channel might have been different if I'd never found this.
Ive thought about literally this same exact concept before, except instead of an open world game like this (which tbh sounds more cool than my idea) ive always thought about it as a game like civ, where you pick from the kingdoms and try to grow your kingdom in a unique overworld with different resources, and risks, from the movie.
(I just saw my own earlier comment I hadnt realised ive seen this before)
"Discovery, harmony, love and anti-violence, with a protagonist as equally human and vulnerable as she is badass and heroic" - such a perfect way to put it
This is your best video Jakey
There could be some fights, too, because Nausicaa is a big badass with all sorts of weapons. She killed like four Tolmekians with a STICK.
I've never been happier to watch a video. I love this movie. The music gives me chills
beautiful just beautiful
This is the first piece of anime I've ever seen, and a movie I remember watching over and over as a child. Thank you for covering this amazing movie, I enjoyed your ideas.
Alright. How much money do we need to gather up to make this thing a reality
Like $300 million
@@MelonMafia1 that is actually accurate.
At least $100 million
Good luck little dude
"I don't know man, I'm just a big ol' magical bug"
I wish he actually continued this series. I really adore this video. Also still waiting for the I am Legend one.
I've still not watched the video but I just want to say that the first time I saw the movie I instantly tought of a game from this movie
Honestly the part that would get me the most stoked would be the different and cool concepts and environments that could come from the world. Like seriously, the part where she fell underneath the sea of decay and discovered it was all pure actually made me get out my seat
Fuck dude! Every joke or gag you make is funny without fail it's crazy
Sometimes I fall asleep to Jakey vids, because they feel like a warm hug from a friend that not only makes you feel safe, but also never fails to make you laugh.
the hottest boy on the block lmaooooo
I watched the film specifically to watch this, and it was awesome
That "Why not Nausicaa" into music swell still gives me goosebumps.
Dog bless
Now I am genuinely upset that this isn't a video game that's like breath of the wild style.
It'll probably never happen but that sounds phenomenal
This video is the hottest dog-damn video on the block!
It's been over five years, and I regret to inform you that the Jakeman is still not a game studio director
These Chinese cartoons aren't as bad as I thought
It's japanese man not chinese
wut
killm360 Jesus fucking Christ
We all know its made by Vietnamese child labour outsourced by le Chinese government and the dub, for your kind information, is done by the Indian tech support who stole your credit card number last week.
Dude it's not Chinese or Korean and Austrian kid
Bro your passion for video games is powerful. You deserve to be in the industry
Battle angel Alita sadly underrated.
"Nawsheeka of the valley of the wind"😅
Nathan Dumas It's literally how you pronounce it.
pikistikman seriously? So is that like, Japanese pronunciation or actually how that name is spoken in English? I'm not arguing I really am interested.
Yup the pronounciation almost correct. The katakan used for Nausicaa is ナウシカ. The correct pronounce is "Na-u-shi-ka”
Pronouncing it the Japanese way is perfectly valid, but it's actually a Greek name so a more western pronunciation is equally valid.
@@LunamrathP This is the correct boy in this thread. This boy.
Just watched about 15 of your videos back to back.... Love it! Awesome job
This is a great series so keep them coming. This is some hot content.
ive never wanted something that i can never have more than when i watch this video
pizzas delivery service... *inhales* BOI
Man growing up with these films and all of Miyazaki, I honestly really appreciate you making this video. Really good vid though its one sort of one of the first I have watched from you.
Nakey Jakey I hate you
Because The secret Life of arrietty is also a great movie and I would think arrietty would be a great video game like Pikmin like exploring around the world and I was just kidding love the video
