For some reason, I thought the movie was released in 1989. So I checked because of your comment, the manga was made in 1982 and the movie released 1984. Thanks for unknowingly correcting me lol.
The lack of respect for the original material and the agenda driven nature of Western studios has been the biggest downfall of any anime to live action adaptations. There only two or three within the last 10 years that I can think of that approached their original's with any level of respect. Among them are Alita: Battle Angel and the more recent One-Piece. And even they are altered (but more to fit within their respective formats - not out of lack of respect). At the opposite end of the spectrum would be productions like Cowboy Bebop live action. We western Anime fans in North America ( I am originally from Texas ) have gotten to the point where we outright fear ANY adaptation. Because Hollywood is just a cesspit of non-creative "woke" people. We'd largely like to NEVER see more adaptations. We were genuinely SHOCKED that One-Piece was done so well. But that is obviously because the original creator maintained TIGHT CONTROL over his creation and the adaptation! Japanese Anime and Japanese entertainment of all types should STAY JAPANESE! I beg you Japanese fans - do NOT follow our example in the West! Stay true to your art and to your culture! It is that culture itself that DREW us original western anime fans TO YOU. The true anime fan doesn't CARE that a work is not from Western culture! You must do things YOUR way!

Or if it must be adapted by another country the original creator or rights holder should be heavily involved since I believe that there are some people/fans capable of staying true to the source.
I'm from Japan. I saw Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in the theater when I was a child and it shaped my interests ever since. I never expected to see someone bring it to life so realistically in my lifetime! I was truly amazed! I can feel your passion and talent from your videos! Thank you, Chris Tex!
I think this short film segment of the beginning scenes from Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa has been done remarkably well as it really follows the famous original manga story so closely. It is a joy to watch. I would love to see this effort continued over the entire series.

I don’t think the animated movie version of the four volume manga series does justice to the very rich story that is related in the manga format but if this live action trailer were to be be a preview of what can be done, I would like to see them try and replicate the whole story with something like what is shown in this teaser. As for the thing that is happening with her throwing the strobe flares, their colors do seem to have a calming effect on the mushi, and as Nausicaa knows this, that is what she is attempting to accomplish: calm the rage and turn the animal back to the forest from whence it came. In doing so, she will save two lives, it and her old friend, Yupa, the sword master.
@ycbash I don't know, i watched the movie now, and this opening part there in the movie was immediately clear to me what was going on. From my outside perspective, as a short film on it's own this one has very bad story telling. A few voice lines like in the movie could have solved that. Like here i didn't understand that the dead insect was just a shedded skin. That she was looking to make tools out of it. That the explosion was just the monster getting out of the ground. that it was chasing a person. That she was saving that person. That the bombs(i understand they are flashgrenades now, but they look like bombs in this short) just stunned the beast. That she was using some kind of insect thing to calm it. All of that context was missing in this short. I thought there was some kind of war going on, because of the explosion, and her military looking outfit and rifle. I guess if you know the manga or movie, this is a fun fan-service. But on it's own this is a bad (though beautifully made) short film. Maybe they should have shown the part "for all ghibli fans" at the front, so i know it wasn't for me. Although i did enjoy the movie a lot!
Absolutely superb adaptation. I've watched and revisited the original Anime many times, it's just so good. I love the way you have evolved the main protagonist from the almost childlike innocence of the original, to a more, dare I say, edgy and mature perspective. Great production. My only gripe? It just didn't last anywhere near long enough lol. I wanted more! Well done 😊
Confesso que não entendo nada de Mangá. Mas, levando em conta as reações abaixo de quem sabe muito do assunto, inclusive de japoneses, a fidelidade à obra foi mantida. Entretanto, fã que sou de SciFi, cinema fantástico, reconheço um trabalho extraordinário de CG, efeitos especiais, produção e tudo mais. Como brasileiro, sinto um orgulho bom em saber que uma pequena equipe de conterrâneos, com recursos limitados, conseguiu realizar um trabalho, simplesmente, SENSACIONAL! Amazing and inspirational. The original film made me a Miyazaki fan way back in 1987! OMG -- Congrats! This has me wishing this would inspire Studio Ghibli to do a "live action" CGI version of this Manga with this level of affection and attention. I'd even watch this as a trilogy of films just to be blessed with the depth, pacing and cinematography your team has shown here - stretched out across the whole story.
You ALL have done Hayao Miyazaki proud, with this tribute! I too have been enthralled as I watched Nausicaa, and other Ghibli classics, so this is/was such a treat to come across upon...May your future projects be as magical & unique as the spirit of Hayao's visions 🙂
Nausicaa has a special place in my heart. Seeing this short movie, the level of detail in it, the respect to the source material, the wonderful portrayal from the actress it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks to everyone involved in making this. I very much wish this team could somehow get all the resources they need to do the whole movie or do a few more scenes.

Incredibly cool. I saw this as a child on vhs, long before Anime was a thing here in the US. The release in the states had 80 or 85 minutes cut from the original. Years later, i got my hands on the full version at a place called scare crow video in Seattle. I was already a fan, but i was blown away, and it quickly became an all-time favorite. A live action adaptation has to be just as the anime was. You've done it justice. Thank you for this treasure.

The only thing they didn't nail of the rifle was the cartridge opening scene - she's shown pouring the powder from the base of the cartridge with the bullet still in place 🙂 but it says a lot about the atention to detail when the only "nitpick" one can find is such a small detail!
LOL. They put pants on her. I always wondered why she didn't have any on the cartoons. But I like this outfit. Now, if I could get a windrider too.....

I see you stand among those who mistook the flesh tone for she being a pantless riders instead of noticing the carefully animated wrinkles around her knees and hips. 🙂
I was 21 years old when I saw Nausicaa OAV in 1984. It was my Golden Age of Japanese anime and cultural immersion. I was mesmerized by the visual art direction, the storyline and especially the soundtrack. I am now 60 and the first few moments of the soundtrack already has me teary eyed in awesome appreciation. I know this is going to be a quadruple thumbs up story. Much Appreciated from a grateful fan of Hayao Miyazaki.☺

I remember seeing the original concept years ago. After so long I thought the project was abandoned and I slowly forgot. Somehow I missed the release, but damn I'm impressed it finally came out.
What a beautiful tribute this is. Since I was a kid, I loved Nausicaa and her story - she’s still my hero today! I always dreamed what the movie would look like as live action. I can tell this team put their heart into this movie. Thank you for keeping the curious and brave spirit of Nausicaa alive!
@@charlesmurphy1510 See, tht's why we complain in the comments that the last part of the short is not well directed. In the manga AND the anime, this scene is she hearing a distress signal from someone being chased by the angry Ohmu (the huge insect), then she sending a signal of her own to that person "come over here, I'm helping you", then dropping a truckload of flashbangs in front of the Ohmu so it forgets it was chasing someone and gets calm instead of angry (the "eyes change from red to blue" thing, a big deal in the setting), then she meets the person she just rescued, the one who calls her name off-screen at the end (who happens to be her old fencing master, but that's another matter). As you could see, that part was... unclear in this short.
No, if you read the manga or watch the movie, she does everything in her power to save any kind of life. For the Ohmu, she merely stunned it to then calm it down and lead it back to the forest where it belongs. Only if absolutely necessary will she take a life. @@charlesmurphy1510

セリフが無くても意外と頭の中で再生されるし『あそこ端折ったかぁ』なんて思ったりもしたけど
全額自費制作で時間を掛けてファンだけで作られた作品って言うのも貴重な時間だなって思った。

ナウシカに関しては、あえて台詞を一切口にせず、最後にユパ様からのナウシカを呼ぶ声のみを入れたのも、ある種の思い入れの深さを感じずにはおれません。
風の谷のナウシカは、アニメも、また原作となるコミックも、幾度も見返しまた読み返してきた、私にとっても思い入れの強い作品です。
数あるジブリ作品の中から、この作品をこのような形で表現してくれたこと、そしてそれをこうして遠く離れた地においても触れられるようにしてくれたことに、改めて感謝します。

back in the late 80’s, Ive seen Nausicaa for the first time. The first opening scene was so beautiful yet haunting. I absolutely love this work.

I found Miyazaki´s film as an adult but love them nonetheless :) i think they can speak and appeal to all ages :) Amazing tribute here!
Amazing and inspirational. The original film made me a Miyazaki fan way back in 1987! OMG -- Congrats! This has me wishing this would inspire Studio Ghibli to do a "live action" CGI version of this Manga with this level of affection and attention. I'd even watch this as a trilogy of films just to be blessed with the depth, pacing and cinematography your team has shown here - stretched out across the whole story.

Nausicaa has a special place in my heart. Seeing this short movie, the level of detail in it, the respect to the source material, the wonderful portrayal from the actress it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks to everyone involved in making this. I very much wish this team could somehow get all the resources they need to do the whole movie or do a few more scenes.

子供の頃に見たナウシカの感動をもう一度大人になって体験できるとは思いませんでした。

アニメの実写化はなかなか難しいと言われる中で、ここまで違和感なく恐らく皆が思うイメージに近いであろう作品に創り上げられていて、本当に素晴らしいと感じました☺🎉
実写化で失敗するアニメには基本的に特徴があって
・現実の人間には到底不可能な不思議な力、能力を持っている（体内の力を用いて体外に排出するキャノン砲的な物など）
・現実の人間には到底不可能な超常的運動能力を持っている（原作では遠く離れた場所に高速で移動するなど）
こういう作品は、アニメでこそ上手くいくわけで、それで人気があるからと安易に実写化すると、CGなどによる合成のオンパレードになるのは間違いないから失敗するのであって、それらから除外された作品なら実写化しても基本失敗することはないよ。
特に風の谷のナウシカのような「地上は人が住めないほど汚染されつつある」という程度で、人々の能力が一般人であり、現実世界にはない乗り物もあるが、どうにかなる範囲の乗り物程度ならいかようにもできるからね。
ただ言えることは「アニメの実写化」というよりは「そういう作品を原作としたものの実写化」が難しいという感じかな
ドラゴンボールなどは仮にアニメ化していなくても、これの実写化が先だったとしても間違いなく失敗してるだろうからね。

個人的には簡易的なCGはやめて欲しいと思っております。
スパイダーマン等のアメコミの様なCG技術まで行くと迫力もあり超人的な動きも多少カバーされるのでは無いかと思っておりますが如何せん金銭の都合ですかね。安っぽい仕上がりに見えてしまうんですよね…。
また、コスプレ感が否めないのも残念ですね。服の素材も勿論なのですが個人的には自然光に近い色を用いたライトを使用しているので現実世界観が抜けきれないのでは？と思っております。彩度や明度、コントラストでだいぶアニメ色には近づけると思うのですが…🤔
個人作品の低予算でここまでのクオリティはすごい。
多くの人が、完全に無償で、これほどの技術や時間を、この作品に提供したという事実に、ただただ感動する

ナウシカの装備も衣服も、実写でやるならあれぐらいで丁度良いと思います。ナウシカの時代背景や置かれている環境から考えて、あの解釈はありだなと思いました！

Incredibly cool. I saw this as a child on vhs, long before Anime was a thing here in the US. The release in the states had 80 or 85 minutes cut from the original. Years later, i got my hands on the full version at a place called scare crow video in Seattle. I was already a fan, but i was blown away, and it quickly became an all-time favorite. A live action adaptation has to be just as the anime was. You've done it justice. Thank you for this treasure.

Sorry I'm late to the party, to the entire crew & staff who made this film on behalf of all Nausicaa fans, seriously take a bow and imagine us all giving you a massive round of applause. And to the costume designer, you nailed Nausicaa's outfit & rifle!! Congratulations to you all.
The only thing they didn't nail of the rifle was the cartridge opening scene - she's shown pouring the powder from the base of the cartridge with the bullet still in place 🙂 but it says a lot about the atention to detail when the only "nitpick" one can find is such a small detail!

@@froman1960 Dude, in the anime she is wearing suede pants (in the manga there's even a careful description of all her gear, pants included). I see you stand among those who mistook the flesh tone for she being a pantless riders instead of noticing the carefully animated wrinkles around her knees and hips. 🙂

I was 21 years old when I saw Nausicaa OAV in 1984. It was my Golden Age of Japanese anime and cultural immersion. I was mesmerized by the visual art direction, the storyline and especially the soundtrack. I am now 60 and the first few moments of the soundtrack already has me teary eyed in awesome appreciation. I know this is going to be a quadruple thumbs up story.

日本のアニメは実写化すべきじゃない。特に外国の人がそれやっちゃうとキャラクターや細かい動作だったり表情だったり背景とかも、作品全体が変わっちゃう。

確かにそうですよね。アニメはアニメで完成してますから。でもそれは、日本のアニメで育った人の感覚なのかもしれません。
（以下、長くなってしまいすみません。）
『なぜ人は実写化してしまうのか。』難しいですが、私は以下のように思って、いつも見ていますｗ
日本のアニメは、やはり日本の文化の影響があります。
特に指摘される所作や表情、細かい態度はどうしても日本人のそれになります。
そこが彼らには変えたいところになります。
（例えば宮崎駿さんのルパンⅢのクラリスやラピュタのシータ。方眉を上げてのウィンクや、挨拶の握手などはほぼ無いですよねｗ）
身振り手振りや口もとや眉の動かし方は、違う文化の人から見ると日常動作ですから、それが余りないことや逆に日本人独特のものは、違和感や未完成な印象を受けるのかもしれません。
そしてアニメーションは、そもそも西洋文明の創造したものという自負もありますし。
そして日本のアニメへの賞賛・憧憬もあるんでしょう。（特にこのナウシカはこれでしょうねｗ）
そして、いちばんはアニメ・漫画は、具体的な細かい陰影などがない。
実写・ＣＧに比べ省略されています。情報が限定された絵ということです。
それは認知能力の低い人・幼児でも分かるものです。
いわば子ども向けの『聖書の絵本』のイメージを感じてしまうのかもしれません。つまり、アニメ・漫画（絵）は実写や（ＡＩなどによる写実的な）ＣＧより、低い伝達方法という感覚が、特に宗教を学んだ経験から感じてしまうんだと思います。
だから、ディズニーアニメやアメコミも含めて、実写化をしてしまうんです。（逆に老若男女全てアニメ・マンガを楽しんでいて、名探偵コナンを数十年実写化しない日本人のほうが不思議な存在ですよねｗ
一方でトムクルーズは、あれだけアニメ的な実写映画を老体に鞭打って作っているのにｗ）
あと、良い原作が無いので、制作側の経営上作っているということもありますよねｗｗ。
I remember seeing the original concept years ago. After so long I thought the project was abandoned and I slowly forgot. Somehow I missed the release, but damn I'm impressed it finally came out.
風の谷のナウシカを劇場で観た時から39年経ってるんですね。この動画を観て、初めて観た時のワクワクする気持ちを思い出しました。" 好きに勝る情熱は無し" という皆さんの熱い想いが伝わってきました。実写でよくここまで頑張ったなと思います。ナウシカファンとしてとても誇らしい気持ちです。

@@charlesmurphy1510 See, tht's why we complain in the comments that the last part of the short is not well directed. In the manga AND the anime, this scene is she hearing a distress signal from someone being chased by the angry Ohmu (the huge insect), then she sending a signal of her own to that person "come over here, I'm helping you", then dropping a truckload of flashbangs in front of the Ohmu so it forgets it was chasing someone and gets calm instead of angry (the "eyes change from red to blue" thing, a big deal in the setting), then she meets the person she just rescued, the one who calls her name off-screen at the end (who happens to be her old fencing master, but that's another matter). As you could see, that part was... unclear in this short.
No, if you read the manga or watch the movie, she does everything in her power to save any kind of life. For the Ohmu, she merely stunned it to then calm it down and lead it back to the forest where it belongs. Only if absolutely necessary will she take a life. @@charlesmurphy1510
