I like the mention of how the media shifted the portrayal of gorillas from brutal man eating animals to gentle giant (mostly) vegetarians. Never really thought of it that way when it came to DK.
Donkey Kong getting brainwashed, then deciding to just mess with Mario for the following installments is something I greatly enjoy. Gotta stick it to that plumber and deflate his ego every now and then!
I like to think Mario VS Donkey Kong takes place prior to any of the spin-off outings that DK was invited to. This would make it the first time Donkey Kong met Mario (or the first time since he was a child, if you believe he is DK Jr) and thus would explain how the situation got that bad. The Toads in the factory immediately go into panic mode when DK shows up, implying they have no idea who he is. Some big gorilla just busted down their door and their reaction is to go crazy. If the Toads were able to communicate with Donkey Kong, the conflict could've been resolved immediately. Keep in mind that in countless Mario spin-offs, the Kongs speak in their own language. Donkey Kong can certainly understand English, and even say a few words. But it's probably not enough to communicate well with English-speakers. If Mario wasn't friends with DK yet, he wouldn't make an effort to learn their language, and wouldn't understand him at the factory. As we see at the end of the game, it literally just took Mario giving DK a single toy for him to calm down. The Toads failed him. If Mario knew DK, then he theoretically would've been able to assess the situation and negotiate with DK. Mario being unfamiliar with him would certainly make it hard to give him the benefit of the doubt at the inciting incident. This would make Mario VS Donkey Kong a huge misunderstanding. At the end of the game, Mario starts to understand the reason the conflict started, and makes friends with DK, inviting him to events like Mario Kart 64. Out of the 4 future Mario VS Donkey Kong games with stories, only 2 of the events are actual incidents. The other 2 are elaborate set-ups that DK and Pauline coordinated together. The 2 real incidents were once again due to the fault of capitalism. Imagine being DK and going ALL THE WAY to the Mushroom Kingdom to get a Pauline toy, just for them to be sold out right when you get there. I would be mad too. And DK knows that Mario is forgiving, so it's a good excuse to have some fun messing with him.
I never knew the effects of being inside KAOS on our poor boy. Thank you for bringing this tragic tale to our attention, Hyle. I like the new videos coming out! It's nice to have what are normally long Kongversation episodes lasting several hours condensed down into thorough, yet digestible videos under half an hour. The only thing I'll say is, don't feel like you have to change the way you talk for RUclips. Don't be afraid to conduct it almost like a solo Kongversation if you feel comfortable. You don't have to filter if you'd rather not. Other than that, it's been very enjoyable. Thanks!
Straight up; DKs behaviour in that opening cutscene is pretty shocking 😂. Basically breaking and entering, theft, not to mention the emotional & probably physical abuse done to the Toad employees just doing their best on a production line job no less.
Donkey Kong Senior was Mario's pet and kidnapped Pauline as a prank to get a rise out of Mario. It's stated Mario and Donkey Kong Senior aren't supposed to be enemies, and that Mario wasn't trying to kill him. But rather Mario had to outwit DK, and this is why the game ends the way it does. So I don't think Mario was torturing DK. With t The DK64 thing was an error that Gregg Mayles cleared up in 2017 saying that this was a mistake, and Donkey Kong the Third was always Cranky's grandson. The Movie aren't canon. You forget DK Jr from Super Mario Kart and Mario's Tennis. Smash Bros in not part of the Canon of Mario Tales, with the characters in it being toys. I think the Mario Vs Donkey Kong happens before Donkey Kong Country.
@@DKVine but isn't that weird considering the ending of Mario Vs Donkey Kong? Where he seems to Apologise. (Also why did he go after Pauline in MvsDK 2? Was it right after his break-up with Candy Kong or something lol?)
I like to pretend here that the *_*ABOMINATION*_* that is the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series of video games doesn't exist there - just for my peace of mind, because I *_*really*_* don't like seeing Donkey Kong [when I'm referring to "Donkey Kong", I'm referring to the one who debuted in the *_Donkey Kong Country_* and *_Donkey Kong Land_* series of video games - *_NOT_* the one who debuted in the _Donkey Kong_ (1981) video game and is just merely Cranky Kong as a young adult] in being a villain and being portrayed like one. It's one of the reasons why I don't like Mario all that much here. (I just strongly prefer anthropomorphic animal protagonists and heroes/heroines over human protagonists and heroes/heroines, because I find human protagonists and heroes/heroines very boring in fiction as they resemble real life too much there - okay?)
Game Theory getting real quiet since this dropped.

This is Donkey Kong journalism at its finest! And yes, I have read the Donkey Kong Land III manual.

Also I was not expecting that one insignificant line in DKC3 to be the crux of the theory in the video. That's a really funny idea
Tbf Toads go into a panic over anything I'd bet

This video of gorillas is not to be mist
Dk is just behaving as I would do when scalpers buy all the amiibos, I blame the company not making enough.
12:55 how DARE you not say “Coconut Cream Pie”
In all seriousness I hope you do more of these video essays
This one's going in the Donkey Kong history books.

Mm bannanas
Have you guys made Super Nintendo World part of the DKU yet? I really, really want to see how you explain that one.
I don't understand the Tiki brainwashing argument. Shouldn't he be more susceptible to the hypnotization? The same way the Mini Mario commercial did?
He was still under the sway of the Mini Mario commercial. The fire still burns in his mind, see.
