      There was a serious change in diet and cage needed, including more toys, natural wood perches, and a bigger cage in general.
      Judging on the amount of poop in the cage and how they talked about it, this wasn’t just for travel.
      A seed diet isn’t healthy. Unless the seeds are sprouted, but even then you need nutritious seeds to balance their diet with a good veggie chop.
      Another good diet is pellets plus veggie chop, which is what my bird eats. Veggie chop daily consisting of collard greens, cauliflower, carrots, ect.
      This isn’t everything you need to know about owning a tiel, just a small amount of information some might find interesting.
      And I do agree, I’m glad he didn’t say “your killing your bird” although it can be thought of like that, since a lot of people like the kid are misinformed on a birds needs. And it helps to be calmer instead of being harsh in order for them to change.
      Saying that he thinking they can fix the birds diet and have a healthy and happy tiel someday soon is probably the best thing he could have said, as it gives the owner hope to fix the problems.

      Like the comment below you said, pretending to eat the veggie in front of your bird is a great way to try and get them curious!
      If they still don’t seem to like their veggies, you can try to give them the dehydrated vegetables. I’ve heard of some birds not liking the wetness of their vegetables, so taking out the moisture might make them a little more appetizing!
      Even sprouting some seeds can be a nice way to interest them in their greens!
      Make sure to be patient and keep offering them the food. It can take many tries to convince them to eat new things!
      Also, if you looking to convert your bird diet from seeds to pellets, there are a couple things you can try.
      You can crush the pellets and dust the seeds with them, to get your bird to at least taste a bit or the pellets.
      You can take their normal seed mix and mix it with pellets, so they have to sort around the pellets to find their seeds.
      I’ve also heard of some people putting a bit of bird safe fruit juice (not store bought, since it usually has extra sugar) on the pellets to try and make the taste more flavorful.
      I would suggest joining the discord (Birbcord), there are a lot of people there that can probably help answer more questions than I can! Joining any good bird group can be a fun way to learn and discuss new things about your bird and the care they need.
      (Please correct me if you think any of this information is wrong, I am very open to learn new things!)

      I don’t use sandpaper perches. Because if it’s rough enough to keep their nails trim it’s capable of doing the same to the skin of their feet. Yours may be okay but rubbed sore feet is a surprisingly common injury. I also don’t know what selection you have available in your area but where I am, sand paper perches are straight and coated in grit.
      I’ve budgies and most of their perches are just wide enough for their nails tips to rub against and I only need to trim their nails once a year or two. Their cheaper too as I’ve plenty of parrot safe trees in my area that drop fun perches after every storm.

    THIS IS WHY YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING A PET. Join facebook groups, ask reputable avian vets, as reputable breeders. As a cockatiel owner this makes me so mad that the parents and the girl didn't do a lick of research on how to properly care for an exotic pet

    For my conure I give 2 tablespoon of pellets, eg harrisons. Then a tablespoon of chop(mixed veg and fruit), the veg is double the amount of fruit. Then I give seeds as treats or might give a teaspoon a day in food bowl.

  • @Guineapig-yo6fi

    I own a tiel myself.
    You need veggies and pellets as a main diet, fruit should be feed occasionally 1-2 times a week.
    Seeds should never be fed as a main diet, unless you sprout them and they get the necessary excessive every day. Even then make sure to include veggies and sprout nutritious seeds.
    My bird has his chop, that consist of collard greens, carrots, cauliflower, ect. Changing it up every once in a while is a good thing too.
    You also need toys, shred toys and foraging mostly, and the 1-2 acrylic. Replace the toys every month or so.

    • @Guineapig-yo6fi
      @Guineapig-yo6fi 3 года назад +1

      This is only a tiny fraction of what you need to know to own a healthy tiel

    • @Guineapig-yo6fi

      So please don’t rely on this information only if you want to fix your tiels diet, or are planning to get a bird in the parrot family.

    Fatty liver disease is a very common dangerous disease that can be easily avoided if pet stores wake up and realize that if it happens in the wild it doesn’t happen in captivity and give correct advise to pet owners. I have a cockatiel and he had a bunch of diseases luckily i managed to treat him in time he only has flaky feet so pls can i get good advice on how to treat that because there are no vets near were i live that know how to treat parrots?

    Our 2 budgies eat much fruit and normal but really good bird food.. German vets recommend for budgies as an example that they need seeds.. Not much of course but millet etc and good high quality seeds are a must have!! And of course the most veggies and fruits.. German bird food is a good one really.. And a tipp for her: NEVER ever house a bird alone.. She normally Should have have a 2nd cockatiel... Sad she doesn't and most bird owners sadly don't do it too... Good episode 👍❤️

    I believe Bubbles has mites and can Abe treated with a bird-mite solution you buy at a pet store.

    • @Maria_Bu
      @Maria_Bu 3 года назад +1

      It is possible, I have the same issue with a starling I own. However, there are better options to eradicate mites than pet store products. Ivermectin is a good option. Also, I would expect crusty nares and feet if Bubbles has mites. The liver could be fatty because of the seed diet, this is not uncommon and I think the vet is on the right track. A diet of sprouted seeds, protein (nuts and eggs), and vegetables and supplemented with a little bit of pellet is a good option; also, in nature, these animals do not have a constant supply of food.
