  • Caitlin Clark Proved To EVERYONE That She’s The BEST Playmaker in the WNBA.
    In The WNBA All Star Game, Caitlin Clark once again made HISTORY, as she tallied 10 assists, making her the first rookie to record 10 assists in a WNBA all star game. In her last game with the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark recorded 19 assists, making her the first ever player to record 19 assists in a game. Caitlin Clark just keeps making the history books. How good will she be?

The super Clark to Reese assist happened in between, so she was still cooking. Clark may have been trying for more assists to break the record when she was a bit tired. She said in post game she didn't want to break the record, but gave a sideline taped interview during the quarter where she said she did. Anyhow, 10 assists, some eye-poppers, with two late turnovers is great. If she can keep doing that the future is now, both for her and her team.

    It was this level of defense on CC that got her teammates so open. Wow. It's hard to believe the complete stupidity of Caitlin Clark haters. But, let me give a situation that even haters can understand. Someone pulls a gun on you that you know holds six bullets. The gunman fires off 4 shots and, by dumb luck, misses. I'm sure that the hater thinks to himself that he is safe and tells the gunman to shoot at him again because he KNOWS that the gunman will miss again. But, the threat remains. 5 to one, but still great. Stewart and A'ja both picked off passes in the 4th quarter, Stewart at 7:25, A'ja with just 30 seconds left. Both of them are exceptionally quick and have exceptionally long arms, but maybe Clark had lost a little snap on her passes due to fatigue. The last turnover was unnecessary, since the game was already effectively over, but CC had told a sideline reporter on tape that she wanted to get the assist record. In post-game, Clark said that she didn't want to break her "homie's" record, but the interview, the two blown attempts, and her call of the excellent assist to Reese all say different. Clark did not get where she is without having exceptional competitive drive.
      Anyhow, 10 assists with two turnovers is outstanding point guard performance.

    The reason why she is hitting her 3s is because people for some reason hasn’t noticed that she has been hitting the gym and put on at least a couple pounds of muscle to her arms and with that it is effecting her shot. She now needs to relearn how to throw up her shot because her strength is stronger so she needs to relearn how hard to throw the ball because with that added strength she is throwing it to strong making the ball all but bounce out of the basket instead of go in, she just needs to adjust and accumulate to that strength and once she does she will be hitting her shots and even more so be hitting even harder and farther shots because her strength will be even more. Then also add in her exhaustion to that and you can see why she is in a 3pt shooting slump but she has figuring out everything else out she will figure this out as well and right now she has a whole month off and knowing her determination and winning mentally there is no way she isn’t going to be working nonstop during the break to get that figured out along with other things she needs to work on.
    Blessing in disguise that she isn’t on the Olympic team making it so that CC & the Fever will end up becoming the dark horse in the Playoffs and might pull off an upset in the Championships

      I blame Sides. (I know, I know, "CC stans blame everyone else" blah blah blah.) but Lisa Bluder knew how to coach her: "you have to let Caitlin be Caitlin." Cheryl Wheeler figured out the same thing, in a couple of days. Sides has had months to work with her and her teammates, to get them used to those amazing unexpected passes: look for them ALL the time, and the minute you're open get ready to shoot because the ball may be coming your way already -- but she's done very little to build that teamwork.

    The crazy thing about the CC-A.Reese play is that if you watch the entire play, you see Angel signal at the being of the play to CC that she's going down to post.
    Angel runs down the right and CC trails her, until Ionesco comes up and blocks CC at half-court, causing CC to veer toward the left side of the court. CC slows her pace and Ionesco shadows her. CC keeps moving over into the left side of the court until she has an angle that she likes and suddenly accelerates into the lane before Ionesco knows what she is doing. Her slow pace lulled the defense into their own slower pace and, so, by the time Ionesco reacts, CC has passed her. Meanwhile B. Stewart was also shadowing at a deeper level but stopped when CC moved lateral to the left side of the court and perpendicular to the basket so that she appeared to be out of driving range. Suddenly, she too realizes too late that CC has unexpectedly accelerated toward the basket and entered into the lane from the left side. It is too late for Stewart to do anything about CC's drive. Now, it is just B. Grier, who sees CC about to get a layup if she continues to hug the shoulder of Angel. So she moves to stop CC ... only to realize as she's moving away from Angel that the ball is bouncing past her and into Angel's hands.
    This play was completely constructed by CC, who outwitted at least three defenders to get the assist to Angel. These are some of the best women basketball players in the country, if not the world, and they clearly wanted to stop CC on this play, yet she tore their defense apart. Very impressive!

      Caitlin uses the court, hesitation, lateral movement to keep her defender clueless as to what she is going to do - stop and shoot a 3, drive or pass. She is a master with the ball in her hands. Caitlin Clark is the best player in the league.
    Caitlin Clark leads the WNBA in Assists and 3PM - has averaged 17.1 points, 7.6 assists, 5.9 rebounds per game, just attained the coveted Triple Double Double Stat - 19 Points - 13 Assists - 12 Rebounds in a single game defeating NY Liberty - FIRST ROOKIE in the WNBA to ever do that, and is the first WNBA player to have 29 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 5 three-pointers, and 3 Blocks the a game against the Washington Mystics
    Caitlin Clark is a 3 dimensional transformational generational player who has literally revolutionized WNBA Women's Basketball to a new level, rewriting the records books with every game she plays, as the leader on the court making the plays, reads the defense, determines the best play to score and executes, passing the ball with expert precision leading the league in assists, driving the pace makes her teammates even better, upping their game without even realizing it is the true measure of greatness, is without a doubt the WNBA League's ROTY and MVP, the greatest woman's basketball player of all time - in my humble opinion.. which is why the WNBA old guard elites hates CC, because it means that their basketball talent and skill is not what they think it is in whatever capacity measurement they choose, in comparison to Caitlin Clark.
    The impact CC has on Indiana Fever in her rookie year is without question because of Caitlin Clark's generational talent, skill, basketball IQ, leading the team to the WNBA Playoffs for the first time since 2016, in spite of the having the worst basketball coach in the WNBA, who is doing all she can to sabotage CC
    Caitlin Clark is doing what Tiger Woods did for Golf. Tiger Woods being the most iconic prolific Golfing sensation in PGA history. Tiger Woods transcended Golf, as did Michael Jordan for the NBA. This is who Caitlin is on the same level with, not Aja Wilson.
    Caitlin Clark has literally revolutionized WNBA Women's Basketball to a new level, rewriting the records books with every game she plays, is without a doubt the WNBA League's ROTY and MVP, the greatest woman's basketball player of all time !
    This is why the massive appeal draw is Caitlin Clark, not Aja Wilson, is why the WNBA has been a dismal financial and fan appeal failure since it's conception

Second, I don't know if you've seen this new clip I saw just today of Caitlin's pass to Angel. Caitlin was mic'd. The clip starts with Sabrina making a shot, immediately after which Caitlin yells, "Go, go, go!" Angel runs down the court and Caitlin passes it right by Griner, and Angel makes the shot. Seen it? Excellent video work and presentation, thanks for the great analysis. Clark's passes succeed because of her speed, quickness and stamina. She can literally wear down the defense. When she has players of the same speed quickness and stamina, WATCH OUT! She hasn't had them yet. She needs players around her that can run at full speed when they are on the court. Her team needs fresh reserves, bench players who will run. She needs a Paul Westhead for a coach.

    Great playmaking by Clark combined with great playing by her receivers, because they are among the best in the league. To score an assist, your receiver has to get open and has to finish. These women could do both. Arike repeatedly sank 3's while covered tightly, sometimes double and triple coverage. Reese was only slightly open on her reception, with two players on her when she shot, but she was so quick off the wood and so high that she beat them both. These kind of players don't just fall off the coconut tree every day. Fever has to find some, in the draft, overseas, or among players other teams are willing to give up. Sparks let Ogwumike go because they knew they were getting two quality prospect front court players in the draft and had picked up another very good one because her team got mad at her for getting pregnant right after signing a big contract extension, so they thought they could spare Ogwumike. She is also the head of the players' union and a Stanford honors grad, so she is probably something of a clubhouse lawyer. She has only a one year contract with the Storm, is 34, and is paid $204,500, so she might be available on the open market if Fever wants that package. (Bet the Sparks would love to have her back now that Brink is out for the season.)
    Don't give up on Clark's shooting too soon. She is shooting mediocrely right now, not putting up percentages you want in someone taking 15 shots a game, but that is due to a major weakness that she had in college too -- she can't sink her jumper reliably over coverage, unlike Arike. She scored at Iowa by getting beyond the range that tight college zones cover, so she was shooting wide open all the time. That isn't going to happen in the W because unlike NCAA the average player is fast enough, athletic enough, and quick enough so they can cover all the way to the logo without creating serious coverage gaps. But like you said, Arike must practice with someone sticking her hand in her face while she shoots. Clark can learn that too. And she has at least a four inch height advantage over Arike, plus longer arms.
    BTW, anyone who watched Big 10 women's ball knew Clark was a crazy good passer. It just didn't cause the excitement among more naive fans that her long-bomb 3's did. Everyone also knew she had problems with turnovers, too, but that got ignored also, despite the fact that her turnovers probably cost Iowa the 2023 championship game.
    IMO, the best news for Clark in the All-Star game was her 5 to 1 assists to turnovers ratio. Every team in the world would love a point who can drop 10 assists (or 14, prorated for 35 minutes of play) with only 2 giveaways. Does this mean she learned something, or is it better receivers as above, or is it a fluke? We'll see in August.

      @@outsidethegarden they need better players to play around Boston and Clark. They have talented players, but they need players who works well with those two. @@outsidethegarden There are some plays, for example the last turnover against the Wings, where the others are supposed to lag behind to set up for threes or drives after CC draws the defense. On that play, where Fever needed a three, Mitchell was wide open on the right and Boston wide open on the left, both at the 3-point line, but CC went about two dribbles too far and got caught in a 4-player trap and stripped of the ball. However, there are a lot of other plays where some of the Fever are not coming up as fast as they should, as fast as Arike, Reese, and others did in the All-Star game. At that game, the mike caught CC telling Reese, with the USA shot still in the air, to turn and run for the other end. Reese responded by jetting down well ahead of Clark and was in perfect position for Clark's very sharp assist.

    Great analysis, thank you. Do you think the increased defensive pressure is why her shooting was off?

    • @outsidethegarden
      @outsidethegarden Месяц назад +3

      seems doubtful -- she's been under increased defensive pressure for the past two and a half years. it did get worse in the W, but she was handling it, not shooting as often but still accurately. she's said she's just tired.

    • @PatrickSchoenfelder
      @PatrickSchoenfelder Месяц назад +1

      @@outsidethegarden Her shooting percentages have stayed pretty close to the same throughout the season, with individual games better or worse, All-Star being worse. The big difference between NCAA CC and WNBA CC is that in the W she plays every game against defenders who are better than all but the very best two or three she saw in college, and the defensive perimeter extends much farther from the paint, leaving her many fewer undefended long 3's. But I do think she looks tired, especially compared with the beginning of the NCAA season last fall. I also think that her "iceman" demeanor conceals a lot more inner turmoil than she lets anyone see, as her moment of fury in the last seconds of the Wings game showed. I think Caitlin expects even more of herself than even the worst Caitlin crazy, and some of her problems are bothering her a lot. Some no-pressure me time on the break could help as much as the actual rest.
      Interestingly, when for a short stretch Clark started shooting less with more careful shot selection, she upped her shooting percentage and was still scoring about the same. However, her coach then publicly stated that she needed to take more shots, and she did, once again bouncing her percentages back down. I think that was a questionable decision, but I can think of two possible reasons to do that: 1.) Clark shooting and missing still draws defensive players away from other Fever shooters. 2.) The belief that if she keeps shooting at a high rate someday in the future some of the shots now rattling out will start dropping, and her scoring will increase, perhaps by a lot.

    • @outsidethegarden
      @outsidethegarden Месяц назад

      @@PatrickSchoenfelder agree with all this. I like the point (no idea how true it is, in general or for CC) that when you're in a slump, you need to keep shooting. and the related point, that even her fans don't seem to get, that in order to improve her assists, and get her teammates used to expecting them and dealing with them, she needs to take more risky or even crazy chances with her passing. to me, that was part of what she was doing in the All-Star game, was enjoying being able to make ambitious passes because she was passing to top-notch players.
      I also think she's under enormous internal and external stress, going from Iowa to a team that's not used to her passes, and even more so to a coach who doesn't support CC's style, or coaches the team in using her skills effectively. so she's having to do the work herself, to get them to play with her: starting with AB, and then building on that to work with others, KM and LH and KLS. meanwhile, Sides is giving her directions that hobble her play, or outright lose the game; and CC is having to learn how far she can disagree, and how far she has to just let Sides either figure it out or not. and meanwhile, lose games. and CC has said, she really hates losing.
