Easily the most underrated track in the game, which is a damn shame considering that it conveys a complicated emotion. The party has no idea what to expect, no idea of the danger that awaits them(except for sephiroth of course) even then, they have no idea the full extent of his power. It feels like they almost expect to lose, yet they must journey on or everything they have been fighting for, all the trials and tribulations and people they've lost would have been for nothing. It's kinda like what I imagine it must feel like going off to stop a crisis knowing you will die, but also knowing that you will be saving lots of people in the process. It's a powerful and complex emotion that is at full display in this piece and it's amazing.
This is absolutely one of my favorite songs from the game, that feeling of both destiny and weariness both in and out of game from battle after battle and loss or so-so success one after another. Ya finally have a chance for a win in sight but who can say if it will be a success or just another setback?
Even more, they know that even if they win...even if they beat Sephiroth for good, that still might not save the planet. Their entire journey could be for nothing, and they have no way of knowing before they go whether or not their efforts will accomplish anything. It's a very strange sense of hopelessness and hope mixed.
This track perfectly evokes the mixed feelings of anticipation of a climax with uncertainty of the outcome. The entire game you've been menaced and intimidated by Sephiroth's power, and you know he is waiting for you at the bottom. Just imagining the party heroically climbing into the cave, filled with grim uncertainty; this track captures that atmosphere perfectly!
I've recently 100% completed FF7 OG, and you best believe I did many hours of grinding in the Northern Crater. I grew very attached and endlessly impressed with this track. It does hold such a sense of finality, courage, but also uncertainty and desperation. Love it so much. I love this game. 😭 Even after spending over 100 hours doing and seeing EVERYTHING you possibly can, seeing the really amazing ending FMV...I feel so empty and I'm almost crazy enough to start over again lmao. But I already poured so much time into it. This is fantastic, definitely the best & most powerful arrangement of this I've ever heard. This track is so fitting as you descend into the literal guts of the planet you've been fighting to protect and seeing that it's ultimately this surreal, alien *thing* with its own strange beauty, but that in the end it's not your friend and might doom you even if you succeed, and humanity will join one of the other vanished worlds you see on the way down. But unlike Sephiroth, Cloud and the others can accept there are some things bigger than themselves and so even with that danger the planet is still worth saving. It literally is Judgement Day, in that if they succeed and kill Sephiroth, humanity will in fact face judgement and might simply be "factory recalled" for not measuring up. If you listen to their lines on the way down (starting from Cloud and Tifa under the Highwind, really), everyone is basically expecting to die at Sephiroth's hands, with only the tiniest shred of hope for victory, but they go down there more just out of a sense that there's nothing else they CAN do. "We'll just go a few days earlier than everyone else from Meteor." It's only in that last moment in the very core of the planet, after the march down into the depths scored by this music, that they are able to fully claim the mutual support and courage that brought them this far-"Aerith is here! Everyone is here!" It's fuckin great, I love it Then the game has the good sense not to reveal an answer for how humanity was judged, it's too momentous and forever-ongoing of a real-life question that it would be tacky moralizing to try to settle the matter either way. It's a shame they decided to retcon that unknowability by making sequels, but at least Geostigma was a damn clever way to split the difference between the two possibilities.
This is still my favorite piece of music from that game and one of my favorites from the whole series, no piece of music before that ever made me feel so immersed in the experience. I felt like I was actually there, after a long journey, everything led up to that moment, the final showdown, Sephiroths Judgment Day as corny as that sounds lol You hit it out of the park with this, this is the only time I've ever heard any recreation of the original music that has given me the same emotion and feelings as I felt as a kid entering the North Cavern for my first time. Seriously give yourself a pat on the back, you did a great job with this and thank you for allowing me to relive that.
come on the game as so many good track this isnt the only one time you get full of emotion, the forested temple was so freaking puzzling... the moment seph kill aerith... nope you missed something bro
@@blacklabel130 I never said it was the only time just that I felt it the most powerful in this moment in the original game. Every song hit me just the right way but this is the moment I felt the biggest surge of every kind of emotion and felt the biggest drive to put an end to everything out of any other piece of video game music at that time. I didn't miss anything, YOU just missed my point entirely.
Beautifully done. Without a doubt my favorite piece of music from the FF7 OST. This track just had a certain mood to it. You finally commit to facing sephiroth, you've had a long journey in the game up until that point. It just gives off a vibe of uncertainty. A feeling that there's no turning back now. Every time I play through this game and finally decide I'm ready to beat the game, I sort of get a little emotional going through the cave and hearing this song. One, because it's an incredibly nostalgic song for me. When I beat FF7 as a kid, I held it up like some kind of major accomplishment. It felt as if I had just won a gold medal or something. A naive kid who sank countless hours into the game lol. Secondly, I get emotional because this song always signifies the end of the adventure. Yea, I know I'm gonna waltz into where Sephiroth is and smoke him effortlessly but that doesn't matter because the experience is always worth-while. I'm convinced that when part 3 of the remake comes out, this banger will be just as epic as this one. Remake & Rebirth's soundtracks haven't let us down in the slightest. You really did an amazing job here too! Captured the feel of the moment. It makes you feel both hopeful and terrified for what's to come. A "No going back, we might die, but we're not giving up" kinda feel.
Personally I want them to take as much time as possible for the episodes, it may be bad to have long periods between them but I would rather have well done episodes than rushed episodes, ykno?

Man them strings are so full such a nice peice, made it feel like full battle mode. I play judgement day on repeat at the gym because it's me vs me it has triumph and victory in one.
Back when the PC version of the game came out, everyone said the music was better on the PS2. If you had a Sound Blaster sound card though, you could almost get the music to sound like this.

They should *really* hire you to make the OST on the Remake. I'm afraid that they screw up on one of the most important parts of the game and what you do here is fantastic
+mestrePaulo22 After hearing Distant Worlds, I've faith they'll do it justice. Square has nary messed up a soundtrack, especially when it's Nobuo Uematsu.

You know, it's funny. I've been puzzling over what instrument is supposed to take the melody in this tune. It seems the official answer is "french horns" but in the playstation version, they sound nothing at all like french horns, but are much too bright and reedy -- more like a concertina. I believe you've found a happy medium by bringing in the french horns but brightening it up to sound more faithful by doubling up the melody with the trumpets.
With rebirth out, and the story now up to date, how will this final segment of the game actually look and sound….i presume and pray we get something very similar to this, because THIS, fits what judgment day should feel and sound like
I rsently made a playback of final fantasy7 and made it to the end with cloud as a striker/healer. double-cut 5300dmg each cut. Barret as atank with 80% cover chance with 100+vitality and 100% more hp. (he had 2k health more than anyone lol) and red as my mage/summoner. he had like 6k hp at the end but i could cast all Bahamuts at the end and a couple more Meteo2 when out of summons. mn-maxing your chars is really op in final7
Tbh if they're going to divide Northern Cave into 3 parts, they'll be royally taking the piss! The entire game would be like 200 parts if they cut it that much!
Possibly episode 3 lol orrrrr 4 or 5 I also did a cover of this Judgement Day melody let me know what you think of it ^_^ ruclips.net/video/i4SgyxMdKJg/видео.html
Its time to Fight Everything leading up to Sephiroth, God man....I was so ready, then really mad at myself for putting the Save at the top of the Cavern.
I really hope they start using more of the original tracks in the right place in Rebirth. While some of the new compositions were great, others really were mistimed, and I could imagine this track being swapped out in the final crater... which would be an absolute mistake
I've always wondered... Aren't these songs copyrighted? This whole copyright concept is confusing. Are you allowed to sell these pieces since it's your own interpretation? But I must also say: Excellent work, especially fitting that you're focussing on FF7 with the Remake coming up (might aswell boost your views since you've been putting the word "Remake" in all of your videos). Hope to see yourself being appreciated by a bigger audience!
+Doctor Luk You can not sell the source material. The music he makes is 100% created by him- which allows him the right to sell it. If he used sounds from the original track however, he would not be able to.
"What are we fighting for? I want us all to understand that. Save the planet... for the future of the Planet... Sure, that's all fine. But really, is that how it is? For me, this is a personal feud. I want to beat Sephiroth and settle my past. Saving the Planet just happens to be part of that. I've been thinking. I think we are all fighting for ourselves. For ourselves... and that someone... something... whatever it is that's important to us. That's what we're fighting for. That's why we keep up this battle for the Planet. All of you. Get off the ship and find out your reasons for yourselves. I want you to make sure. Then I want you to come back. I know why I'm fighting. I'm fighting to save the planet, and that's that. But besides that, there's something personal, too... A very personal memory that I have. What about you all? I want all of you to find that something within yourselves. If you don't find it, then that's okay, too. You can't fight without a reason, right? So, I won't hold it against you if you don't come back."
I wish they'd go for that kind of remake of the soundtrack, instead of that shitty orchestrated stuff they made for the trailer. There's no punch to it. It's plain, lame
The feeling of true courage. Knowing that you face impossible odds...but will face it head on with everything you have anyway
Peter Jackson shoulda licensed it for the Battle of the Morannon. 😆

Always has been my favorite track, by far. Idk why, it just feels like how a final dungeon should feel

Theres hints of every main character theme in this track. Summarises the whole story
@@PikaPikaPowah Hi Jason, could you expand on what parts of the soundtrack are from the different character themes? Would love to hear your thoughts
Same here... All I hear is Aerith's theme.
I always thought it sounded like Cid's theme with the march tempo.

Which will come first?
BitSymphony releases the entire FFVII score
or
Squeenix release the first episode of FFVII Remake?
Personally I want them to take as much time as possible for the episodes, it may be bad to have long periods between them but I would rather have well done episodes than rushed episodes, ykno?
+fusro sandvich ^
But episodes
Why
*****
Also keep in mind the fact that the original game had 3 seperate discs, and while not in the normal sense, because of that was sorta episodic.
Fuck y’all

This music is appropriate today in 2022, especially what’s going on today 😉
And now I just realised that the last FFXV Japanese demo is called Judgement Day, just like this track o.o
Senprum and not only that, the original song is included in FFXV's radio mix which is pretty cool.
Back when the PC version of the game came out, everyone said the music was better on the PS2. If you had a Sound Blaster sound card though, you could almost get the music to sound like this.
Awesome as always

They should *really* hire you to make the OST on the Remake. I'm afraid that they screw up on one of the most important parts of the game and what you do here is fantastic
+mestrePaulo22 After hearing Distant Worlds, I've faith they'll do it justice. Square has nary messed up a soundtrack, especially when it's Nobuo Uematsu.
***** Oh? Shame.
+TeamCreeperBomb I'll be at distant worlds in a few days, guess i'll see

I rather liked the Remastered sound track.
That sounds so good. I've remade some tracks myself, but you're far away ahead man ! Keep it up, add some more, I'll go buy the album right now.

I think the bells are a bit too quiet...but other than that, this is a fantastic remake. Always liked the final dungeon theme in FFVII.
Any chance you could do Kefka's Tower from FFVI?

You know, it's funny. I've been puzzling over what instrument is supposed to take the melody in this tune. It seems the official answer is "french horns" but in the playstation version, they sound nothing at all like french horns, but are much too bright and reedy -- more like a concertina. I believe you've found a happy medium by bringing in the french horns but brightening it up to sound more faithful by doubling up the melody with the trumpets.
memories...

With rebirth out, and the story now up to date, how will this final segment of the game actually look and sound….i presume and pray we get something very similar to this, because THIS, fits what judgment day should feel and sound like
Still my favorite remaster of this.
perfect bro fkin perfect
How I feel every time I walk to my bosses office...
I rsently made a playback of final fantasy7 and made it to the end with cloud as a striker/healer. double-cut 5300dmg each cut.
Barret as atank with 80% cover chance with 100+vitality and 100% more hp. (he had 2k health more than anyone lol)
and red as my mage/summoner. he had like 6k hp at the end but i could cast all Bahamuts at the end and a couple more Meteo2 when out of summons. mn-maxing your chars is really op in final7

Fantastic song - but the question is, do we know which episode of the Remake this song will play? I bet Northern Cave will be divided in three parts.

I know it would be one hell of a project to undertake, but could you consider doing Dancing Mad from FFVI?
+Chameleonchild Games surely i need to do a take on that one sooner or later
BitSymphony I'd Settle for Fisherman's Horizon from VIII, too c; I don't think you've done that one yet

I really hope they start using more of the original tracks in the right place in Rebirth. While some of the new compositions were great, others really were mistimed, and I could imagine this track being swapped out in the final crater... which would be an absolute mistake

444 WOOT.
+Al'duyen Evernaught -KasaPUPPY- I'm a little late, but thanks for the reply!

I need to play the remake i have only beaten the original
Is there sheet music for this?
Infancia jfnjkd
Probably should rename this video now that "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is the title of a separate game that didn't include this track. XD

Is nobody gonna mention that a certain someones melody is in this piece

The bell is a bit too discordant, IMO.
It doesn't fully capture the original. It's too monotone.

I wish they'd go for that kind of remake of the soundtrack, instead of that shitty orchestrated stuff they made for the trailer. There's no punch to it. It's plain, lame

Cant
Why can’t Orchestras ever make the Game songs Sound As Similar as Possible?
This is too over done and ruins the feel
