Today I went to a food bank for the first time in my life. They were very welcoming and made me feel a little better. It was hard for me deciding to go, but our family needs all the help we can get right now.
In my are they have a free grocery store where people can go and get what they need. I know some people have trouble going into a food bank because they feel embarrassed even when they shouldn't so this way they can go into a regular looking grocery store and still get what they need.
Sitting and watching quite a few of your videos when really enjoying them too. You sound like a super sweet person and your kiddos are absolutely adorable. Also wanted to thank you for being very descriptive about what you're doing in your videos I really do appreciate that because I'm actually totally blind and it helps me to follow along with the video.😂❤❤
I've been grabbing from Alfa dumpster just off the top in a box. I got quite a bit of fresh produce tricolored peppers 4 bags of onions 2 packs of celery, 3 different breads, and a pack of blue berries. And yes round steak cold, and pepperoni slices. And broccoli. So it will be a few good meals. And yes I only do it when I'm short on meals that month.
Do what you gotta do, friend. Just be safe and make sure smells good too. You can't know if it was kept cold the entire time. God bless. Wish you were close to central Indiana, I could probably help on those times you are short.
Here they want to know your income , and rent / mortgage amount . But they don't take in your utilities costs , prescribed medications, bus / transportation costs or any other costs . So its based on your household income and your rent / mortgage amounts.
Have you had problems with your chickens being let loose and enjoying the property? My sister went from 14 to 5 chickens in a day or two because hawks and eagles and maybe coyotes got them. She now keeps them all locked up and was lucky to find some chicks about a 90 minute drive away.
We have lost a couple here and there. One last year to a hawk! Middle of the day and everything. We are working on getting the coop redone and a run for them to be contained more. It just requires a whole lot of fencing that we don't want to put into a rental property.
Orecchiette (aura ket tay) that's the best I can explain. It translates to little or small ears, depending which Italian you talk to, lol. This is hands down my favorite pasta. I loved it with a thick meat sauce because it's like a little bowl that holds it all. It's really good with sausage, broccoli and some fresh grated parmesan.
Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love , and peace all over the world 🌏. I would love us to be good friends in honesty and in trust so as time goes on it will bring something great for us in the future, hope you don't mind? I'm Thaoms Gabriel from Brooklyn New York, where are you from if I may ask????❤
An enjoyable video from the opening showing your beautiful daughter and the birds. The food bank haul and pickle making. My grandma would use brown sugar also. I loved her sliced pickles that were super sweet and spicy. She ran out of mustard seeds one time and used keens dry mustard powder, I thought they were her best pickles. Heating the brine penetrates the pickles faster.
Use your pickles and using the chopper blade/S blade pulse them until you get the consistency you desire, add a bit of pickle liquid and give it one last quick pulse...voila (☝🏻🤷🏻♀️Now there...Bahbz yer unalive Unkil😉👍🏻)
I’m planning on making red lentil curry sometime this week. I love your mix of chickens. I have 9 hens and will probably be getting more in the spring as soon as I get a bigger coop. I thought about getting a rooster and letting my 2 broody hens hatch out a clutch or 2. Right now I’m selling a dozen eggs for $5 which helps pay for their feed. I love having them and they have really helped control the tick problem here.
Hi. That opening shot with you and your daughter tending the chickens and talking was beautiful. Your children are blessed. I'm not a poultry person, but it looked like roostie was blocking the turkey from exiting. Thank you for the landscaping shots and your family with us.
Great haul. I like to see the one on lintels we get alot and i just give them away. Dont know how to cook or to add. So that would be good idea. You and Betty Jan so cute with. The chickens. What a wonderful morning ❤❤
I wish I had a lot of fresh produce to can. I am canning tomatoes today. I bought them for 11.00 a box. I haven’t had a garden in several years. My neighbors have been generous though and I have canned green beans and made squash pickles. Every little bit helps!
Nice haul. I'm thinking peanut brittle from all those peanuts. Lentil bread or lentil soup or stew. Grind down some bread after you dry it out. Freezes well too.
The food bank in my town has gotten a lot better recently, still nowhere near as fabulous as yours (especially in the meat dept, yours is amazing!), but I’m so so thankful it’s improved to the point that I actually get usable items now. I even got some frozen breakfast burritos that were really good! 💜 I absolutely LOVE pickled onions, I make them all the time and put them on sub sandwiches & street tacos… and truthfully, I just eat them straight outta the jar, lol
I keep thinking about all that pie crust dough in the bag that they gave you when you volunteered on your first day. My mom, and grandma used to make homemade fried pies. It of course needs pie crust for the shell. For filling mixture my mom tells me that they used to make homemade jelly and jams from whatever kind of fruit they harvested that year. She grew up in country on over 700 acres of land. After she graduated high school she moved to the city where she stayed. Anyway just maybe an idea or two for you to consider. Not anything that you have to do.
The pickles are going to be great! I even do this with leftover store bought Vlasic or Claussen pickle juice, which both are refrigerator pickles and always crisp. I’ve tried to duplicate it, but I’ve never got it right. Great haul today! I’m excited to see what you do with the lentils. Thanks for sharing, Carolina 🥰
You seem to be able to access food banks more than most quite frequently and with abundance. Is it that Montana is a more generous with their food because some people don't to receive as much in other areas and I've watched a whole lot of food bank hauls.
Missoula is a large farming community and has several rendering plants in the area . This would potentially add to the surplus.. also, stores are not required to donate older food. Most prefer the easy way of just throwing it away. Somebody must have worked really hard in the past to set this up and in the current to keep it running.
There are a lot of grocery stores that donate their expired food to the food bank. The food bank has the volunteers go pick it up, sort it and put it in the store. This has been a program that has been running for a long time and they also have farmers that donate produce to them as well. Another program that has been set up for awhile! It truly is amazing and I wish all counties did this!
Because I'm disabled and live in apartment I don't qualify but I do get mom's healthy meals pre cooked for people on stric medical health plans 14meals pwr mounth
if u put your cherry pits in vodka for a couple of weeks u can make your own almond extract. dont know if i said this before. love your videos. precious cute family.enjoy watching u very much.
For some reason....I have found and finally just accepted the fact that I do not like ACV......I have tried and tried....I just rather have the regular vinegar .....LOL
Such beautiful scenery, love the time-lapse footage! The pasta is “mah-stah-CHOH-lee” (at least the Americanization of it…which is relatively close, lol.) The Oriechiette (or little ears) pasta works really well in soups, it doesn’t fall apart quickly cause it’s ‘sturdy.’ I’ve heard such good things about lentils as being an excellent protein/vitamin filled food…and had them once in my life, when I was about 4…mainly I stared at a bowl of mush given to us for lunch by my friends mother…it looked pretty vile, and I don’t remember tasting it. However, I’m sure there are many ways to cook them than don’t look so unappetizing…I’ll have to look for some and give it a try. I really have no idea what they taste like (and I think there are quite a few varieties/colors, also.)
Yes and or picked off by hawks, foxes ect. We have plans to re do our coop and make a run for them so they don't wander off and will quit pooping on the porch!! Haha

Awesome video!! Tfs. I love when you show your chickens. Betty Jan is good at getting them moving. Have a blessed week friend 😊
Thanks so much! Betty Jan is the chicken whisperer for sure! haha
Pickled vegetables go great with cooked meats. Mix in or spoon on top. Yum tastes good!
I love pickled red onions on top of chili Colorado and beef tacos. Yum!
Oh that does sound really good!

Hello Carolina I was wondering if you had made a video using or canning that bag of lentils?
I have just made sloppy joes with lentils...I'm trying to like them..I really am! haha

I don't blame ya! They do taste different! I've never made pickles with ACV so we will see how they turn out!
Please let us know how everything tastes. I just did 2 gallons of refrigerated pickles.
Will do!
How many chicken you have? How do you contain them from running away. I want to get chicken soo bad.
We have about 25 and they know where their bed is and always come back home for bed time! We love chickens so much!
Our food bank is based on your income only

Yes and or picked off by hawks, foxes ect. We have plans to re do our coop and make a run for them so they don't wander off and will quit pooping on the porch!! Haha
I tune in to see the food ban haul so skipping the first and last protion. Just saying.
Well thanks for the comment! That really helps my channel!
