The way games are intended hard as balls. DJ Boy was the first one, abd it actually got ported to the Genesis..
I discovered this on my Legends Ultimate and this is actually one of my favorite games. The soundtrack rules!

If anybody else already mentioned it in the comments below you can disregard this comment. I just wanted to let you know that they all do have names. It's hard to notice it because usually, you'll see it on the character select screen in video games. When you play them in the game though their names appear next to 1P 2P 3P based on how many players and who you pick. The characters are:
Top - Green Vest / White Shirt / Blue Pants
Pea - White Shirt / Blue Pants
Pan - Red Hat / Jean Outfit
Didn't want to falsely label any of the ethnicities.
I came across this game as a long play several years ago. I also liked the music too (Hoops 96 also offers an awesome hip hop soundtrack). I played it with a couple of friends on MAME. The really frightening thing about this final boss game that you didn’t capture is what happens in multi player mode. Before you fight the boss, you fight your team mates to force them out of the game. The last player standing HAS to fight the boss alone.
Someone else mentioned that, that is just CRAZY 🤣 Game is just unforgiving.
Nice Vid! You almost never hear about this game. I discovered it by accident. Still being arcade exclusive and what I assume was low distribution, very few are aware of it. I discovered it when a few years ago over a Holiday break, I went through every MAME ROM that was functional and discovered this game. I think it is so interesting all around, but I am also a huge beat-em-up fan, which is probably why it was so easy for me to remember. I agree this game is kind of unfun to play after so long due to frustrations with the mechanics and cheap enemies. It was a little more fun when I played multiplayer with friends, who also got a good laugh at the general goofiness. It is a little more tolerable and enjoyable by using the MAME cheat files. I think my favorite feature in this game is the record scratch for adding credits. I still got some enjoyment out of it because Beat-Em-Ups are like pizza...even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.
A friend and I tried the multiplayer, but we couldn't get it to work on Fightcade. I 100% agree with the pizza comparison, that's absolutely brilliant! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the game.
@@35infinite Thanks! 😃 We had no issues using the PC version of MAME to emulate, but that was also couch co-op we played. Beat-Em-Ups are in my top 3 game genres. I try as many as I can. I was sad when the genre was dead by the late 90's when 3D took over every genre in existence. I never cared for 3D Beat-Em-Ups. I never stopped loving 2D games and hated how forced 3D was in the late 90s. Thanks to platforms like Steam, the Beat-Em-Up genre is back the best it was since the early 90s. You could create a new story and reskin Final Fight 50 times and call it a new game and I'd still enjoy it. OpenBOR titles are extremely fun to play too.
They used to have this game at a local skating rink that I used to go to I love this game and you damn right I could never get past the first level 😂

You forgot to add the final boss is one on one, meaning if you have friends that helped you through, you have to fight them, the last man standing fights the final boss, your friends cannot continue

I messed with this game when I had mame But damn, I never knew or got that far to that final boss fight. Are Kaneko getting revenge on players/publishers trying to censor the spiritual prequel DJ Boy for its insensitive stereotype of a first boss? Maybe they were salty losing the beastie boys license. But hell, its like its designed to literally rinse your pockets of funds.

I remember seeing the attraction screen at the arcades in North Carolina as a kid during my summer break but had go back to the family house since we was leaving. I was so hype up to play it but life move on and I forgot about it...........but when it was announced that it was coming to MAME that nostalgia goodness hit me so hard that I was fiending to play it Yeah the game is just okay, the music really save it. A worst arcade only game with good music is D.D. Crew. I and online buddy barely beat the game thru MAME cuz it was so boring.
