cadillacs and Dinoasaur, Aero Fighter 2, Double Dragon (Arcade) were classics in Cape Town. Demon Front was a gem for me that I wished I played more to get better at it and so is Shock Troopers 2.
I don't recall "Street Fighter Alpha 3" being an underrated game if it's considered by many to be one of the greatest titles in the Street FIghter series that is still worth playing, so I'm pretty surprised to see it featured on this list. If there is one Capcom fighting game that I feel should be featured on here, however, it would have to be "DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors" or even its follow-up "Night Warriors: DarkStalkers' Revenge".
Think the same, many of this games are absolute hits like street fighter alpha 3, it was ported into who knows how many consoles ahhaha saying it is underrated is totally false but nice list for ppl wanting some great games on their emulation list
*Beat ‘Em Ups* Warrior Blade (Taito) Vendetta (Konami) Hook (Irem) Knights Of Valour (IGS) *Fighting Games* Golden Axe : The Duel (Sega) The Last Blade (SNK) Rage Of Dragons (Playmore) *Shoot ‘Em Ups* Raiden (Fabtek) Ghost Pilots (SNK) Twin Eagle II (Taito) are some decent games that I don’t hear about often.
I think raiden is one of the most talked about shooters and was one of the most common cabinets back in the day. Most people seem to agree ghost pilots isn't a very good game. Shoot em ups are pretty niche but within that niche it's pretty well known which are the really good games
ya its kinda funnny i never saw this arcade cab in any arcades in my area back in the 90s early 2000's I only found out about it through MAME!! Im soo thankful i have this game now on EMU. I play it alot as much as i did SF2
was not even half way through the vid until I noticed the very same thing and I am 32 thus only got to play these games at the end of the arcade era and yeah they were NOT underrated
wow so many games i forgot about and remember now because of this video. thank you for the trip down memory lane. you just gave me a new life goal: earn enough money to buy the arcade games :D
Windjammers is my personal pick as most underrated arcade game ever. I bought a Neo Geo Cd in the mid 00’s and me and my mates were obsessed with that game for a while. Such an easy set of controls but so competitive and addictive. League Bowling on Neo Geo is another massively underrated game in my opinion too.
My favorite underrated arcade games: 1) Water Match (1984) 2) Major Havoc (1984) 3) Tapper (also known as Root Beer Tapper) (1984) 4) Birdie King 2 (1983) 5) Hyper Sports (1984) 6) Vs. Tennis (1984) 7) Karate Champ (1984) 8) Donkey Kong Jr. (1982) 9) Jungle King (1982) 10) Bump'n'Jump (1982)
The 3 different routes in Shock Trooper does more than just take you to different levels. Each of the 8 characters specializes in one of 3 routes, which results in faster movement. Also, at the start of each stage you get a life bonus, this bonus is bigger if the character used is in the route they specialize in.
SO, SO glad to see _Battle Circuit_ on this list, although, if a least to most ranking list, I’d’ve put it higher - ‘especially ‘cause _Metamorphic Force_ and _League Bowing 1990_ seem to get a lotta love. _Battle Circuit_ seems to have shown up on the _Capcom Beat ‘em Up Collection,_ but until it gets diffused across the gaming landscape and/or “fanboyed” after a time, folks generally don’t know what they’ve got. Perhaps the strangest Beat ‘em Up, ever, executed perfectly - with all the best mechanics of the genre _and_ a “bad” and “good” ending, the latter of which can 1.5X your entire game score, _if you create the chance!_ Can’t believe that the first time I just decided to blow up the place... 🤦♂️ Great work, overall! Thanks! I got a couple titles to check out, here - which is no easy thing to do, considering I’ve been playing arcade games since I was 4 - in the summer of ‘77.
Nice watching this, you know Shock trooper made me think its the evolution of those airplane shooter games. First thing that came to mind soon as I saw it. Shows we've never stoped playing pong. lol. nice vid.
Awesome list! There are a few I’ve never heard of. Ignore the people who are critiquing you about underrated games. They are unhappy, pea counters, who have nothing better to do than make others feel miserable as they do. Great video! Thank you, bud
thanks for highlighting the capcom willow arcade game. LOVED THAT GAME! I held out hope they would port it to mega drive/genesis, it never happened. I wish they would re-release it
Many of these aren’t underrated at all; in fact, a great many of them have overcome obscurity and gone on to become quite the cult classics! The list definitely picks up towards the latter end though; Mars Matrix and Elevator Action 2 really do need more appreciation. If you do another video, I’d love to see you unearth some genuinely *obscure* arcade games. That aside, I do like your commentary; well spoken, but emotive. Very pleasant to listen to!
Thanks for thus video. I finally found the game I've been thinking for too long. I thought it was just a fever dream. I'm talking about the outfoxies. All I remember is that there is a "twin" and a black man with a razor sharp hands characters that fights in s moving train.
Wrestlefest... Wrestlefest which you state in your own video was "a hit in arcades"... and spoken fondly of today by everyone who was around at the time, even if they didn't ilke wrestling.... was underrated... How exactly? And Street Figther Alpha 3, the game so beloved it was nigh-on perfectly ported to the playstation and saturn and beloved by all. Underrated. Go look up the word, underrated. It doesn't mean what you seem to think it means.
it was not anywhere near perfectly ported to the playstation, speaking from experience. however the saturn version is meant to be even closer to the arcade than the dreamcast version... I havent played the saturn release but ive played every single other port or version of it to death. even the GBA stands its ground (though obviously inferior) to the PSX ver. And lets talk about the insane GBC street fight alpha. amazing work.
Que vídeo incrível, a maioria estou conhecendo agora com seu vídeo, aqui no Brasil a grande maioria não fez esse sucesso a não ser os mais clássicos, Moonwalker, BATTLETOADS etc.
Ironically most, if not all of these games have already been on “hidden gem” videos over the years that of course now, they are no longer hidden. Always a gem though.
Great fun on PC with your friends. It's shame there is no in-game speech recognition on consoles, speaking to the ghost with friends is so immersive and fun. If you don't own an PC and have 3 mates, give it a go this Halloween.
I was in junior high when Asteroids came out. In addition to it, I loved Tempest, PacMan, Frogger, Popeye, DigDug, Pole Position, Centipede and other "golden age" classics. They were silly and harmless. I lost interest when they became so overtly violent; that is, killing people. "Eating" a ghost and "pumping" up a pooka is one thing, but the constant shooting of people, pulling their spines out and that sort of thing just seemed to bring out too much aggression. Even in Space Invaders, the enemy was barely more than just an abstract shape. And you were only dodging barrels in Donkey Kong. And who know what those weird shapes in Tempest were supposed to be! It seems that when the graphics got better, people just wanted to pretend they were shooting at people.
Interesting list and some good games on there but I wouldn't call them underrated. I would say they are all fairly well known as all later games, especially as a few neo-geo ones on there. Try looking back a decade and playing some of the older ones. The gameplay can outweigh the fancy graphics easily. I think I even prefer the original Elevator Action to the sequal
A great arcade game I'll never forget was this zombie game called "Brain Of The Dead" or "Dead Of The Brain". It's one of the goriest zombie games I've seen!
Can alsonrecomend oriental legend and dyna gear. This games are underated as f. If you like metamorphic force you will most likely love oriental legend. I liked it more. Gameplay is more complex but ymthe music does not beat metamorphic force. Dyna gear is a run and gun in the future with dinosaurs. Try it. Its more fun than it looks.
Well, shcok troopers and KOF 97 isn't underrated at all in East Asia. KOF was even bigger than street fighters in this part of the world, and shock troopers was bsaically on par with Metal Slugs in terms of popularity. I personally had so much fun with shock troopers as a kid using Nebula rmulator. The games just blasts! KOF 97 I also enjoyed quite a lot, but can no longer return to it. Watching this made me tear up a little bit. You never know how good you’ve got it until it’s gone.

Martial Champion IMO was very underrated. It was an above average fighting game and better than most of the other Street Fighter clones of the time.

Wind Jammers is like a 1 vs 1 version of Super Dodgeball except it way faster.
