Nicely received, Gameday. You know I love my Warzone/Attitude, but I can’t deny that Acclaim was out of their depth. They stole a whole lot of money from a whole lot of people (mainly kids).
As a 5 year old, QB club 99 on n64 was my introduction to football. I would use the acclaim 99 overall team and run the same play over and over, 44 power right and dominate the nfl Europe scrubs. Good times, good times.
I remember back in the day people saying "Ack! Lame!" for Acclaim... I miss the expansion mode from All Star Baseball. Closest thing now is Diamond Dynasty on The Show. I want a full expansion mode.. Legends of Wrestling was an interesting concept... I would have loved to see it be done by someone other than Acclaim..
EA has bought and killed countless other game studios, and in doing so has robbed us of great games that never got made as a result. That and their scummy use of loot boxes etc makes them the worst. Acclaim may have made sub par games but there is no way they are worse than EA.
You can tell you are a more modern gamer with this list. Like WWF games for their times were well received. Warzone and attitude were LOVED by wrestling fans at the time. Yes they certainly don't hold up nowadays like a lot of 3D PS1 games but at the time ppl were frothing at the mouth for them.. They lost the license not because of poor games but the fact other publishers offered better deals for WWE.
Acclaim had Turok and Shadowman but doubled down on bad sports games when its already difficult to make a yearly simulator. They were better off publishing developers who took time on their games.
They also did the US distribution of some great Taito arcade ports (namely Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move 2, Darius Gaiden, and Rayforce), but I don't know if that counts.
One Acclaim game you didn't mention that I did enjoy (though it wasn't the best game in the world) was College Slam. It was fun to play. Similar to NBA Jam though so it was kinda hard to screw up
I kinda have a soft spot for BMX XXX honestly. Also fun fact the PS2 version was partially censored while the Gamecube version was not, weird to see a game be more explicit on the more family-friendly console.

I kinda had a soft spot for WWF games like royal rumble and raw on SNES and WWF In Your House on PS1 and WrestleMania the arcade game and legends of wrestling as some of the early NFL Quarterback Club games. I know they weren't perfect but not all bad
Attitude and Warzone had solid reviews back in the day. The bad reviews come from people who play the game 20 years later and its not fast paced and one button finishers like the Smackdown games that came after. It only became an issue when the ECW license took over and they released the exact same with a new roster.
It’s crazy because i remember looking at a preview of Warzone in game pro prior to release and thinking this was the best graphics I had saw in a video game up until that point in time , it was really good for its time as far as graphics were concerned.
Royal rumble is one of the greatest wrestling games of all time, you can tell this dude wasnt around for em, and is trying to research the reception, big miss. Warzone also great. Qb club another all time great, i recently busted it out for the kid for its elite qb challenge miningames. My dog you gotta hit more games you were actually alive for, and not just guess that these games were poorly received.
Yeah whoever made the video is obviously in their early twenties or younger. War zone was sick and near impossible to find at your local video store in stock. Qb club was one of the best football games back then
Legends of Wrestling series wasn't great but I did enjoy them. Each one got better from the last and they all had awesome roster of legendary wrestlers.
The Acclaim Baseball games were very good and very underrated, I believe it was called All Star baseball and Had Derek Jeter on the cover, I spent many hours on my PS 2 trying to get my expansion team to the World Series
@jerryalexander8803 I had so much fun with those games. The franchise mode was unbelievable. I had an expansion team in Hawaii in an awesome stadium. It was also the first baseball game where the ball would actually hit off of objects in the stadium. You could hit homeruns and the ball would hit off whatever was in the stands. Very cool.
@jerryalexander8803 Hitting was really hard at first. The ball came in at 1000 mph. Lol Then I got used to it and I was blasting homer's with everybody. Get a ps2 and grab NCAA 2006 while you're at it. You will be transported back to better days. Lol
Bro you could not have convinced me in 1998-1999 that WWF Warzone and Attitude were bad games. Somehow I played the WCW N64 games and still thought the WWF titles were good, better even! I was a fucking moron lmao
War zone was awesome for what it was going up against at the time. And the fact that game was impossible to rent as a kid unless you went there when someone brought it back, shows it actually was a fun game
Jackie Chan Stuntmaster?! I grew up with WWF Attitude and I can confirm it was so hard to play! The laughs from how awkward it was made it half worth it. Just the voiceovers alone were hilarious😂. WWF popularity was at its apex at that time so we tolerated it. Smackdown franchise took it to a wayyy better level tho.
Thank you for acknowledging what I have always assumed about the NBA Jam license. I also thought something was up when they stole the Mortal Kombat 1 engine to make Batman Forever on SNES and Genesis
Acclaim NFL QB Club 96 and 97 on Sega are my favorites. I still play them. Gameday wasnt bad but Gamebreaker (with Keith Jackson commentary) is awesome.
That wasn’t Steve-O announcing Blast Lacrosse, it was Scott Farrell…his show was huge on satellite radio. I think he’s still on. His voice drove me crazy 😂😂
Okay for the 90’s era I loved the wwf games & yeah I loved also the legends of wrestling games 1 & 2 because for the time & yes I had world tour & no mercy all those games to me are classics
I enjoyed all of Acclaim's wrestling games back in the day for what they were. But they certainly haven't aged well. Royal Rumble and Raw were a lot of fun and they are still decent for a couple of minutes nowadays, but when you play Super Fire Pro Wrestling X on the SNES you start to realise what was possible on that console. Likewise, I had good times with Warzone and Attitude but the more arcadey SmackDown! games have aged better. Obviously, the Mortal-Kombat-like controls were a questionable choice even back then, but what haunted ALL the Acclaim wrestling games (including Legends Of Wrestling 1-3) was the absolute lack of impact when it came to the moves. Just look at a Big Splash in No Mercy. You can almost feel the oomph when the bodies connect. In Acclaim games the wrestlers just kind of float into each other without much selling. Also, the robotic and repetitive movements. Wrestlers constantly doing the same taunt over and over was kind of an Acclaim staple. As for the Legends Of Wrestling games, it seemed like they didn't even care about them. It was like they wanted to make a modern wrestling game, but were stuck with old, retired wrestlers they had no knowledge of. The move sets were absolutely hideous, almost to the point of insulting. Who cares about arm drags and hip tosses. Pedigrees and Stunners for everyone!
When they first came out they were awesome, phenomenal but like you said they didn’t age well. A lot of old school gamers that played them when they first came out before all the 3D games would agree. I don’t think a lot of these people played these games in their prime and glory or wasn’t gamers back then.
The wwf attitude/warzone (never played the ecw nor other wrestling games that they made) slander will not be tolerated... but the rest of those games were utter gar-bah-hae
And yes, blast lacrosse is a terrible Game I love it because it’s the only national lacrosse game, i.e. box lacrosse. Not counting that terrible NLL 14 game That was an indie game available on Xbox
Gotta disagree. For a low budget foreign company Acclaim did an ok job with what they had. I still mess around with All-Star Baseball because they had one of the best expansion draft features of any game I've played still to this day. If they had EA's budget and license I bet we'd have way better games than what EA's been putting out the last several (10-15) years.
One thing I did miss was how ASB added closing and opening new stadiums and every team who had a mascot you would see it active and even in the 05 real stances and real pitching from the stretch I really wish it got remastered or continued but I know everyone wasn’t a fan good times
I played the fuck out if all star baseball on PS2. Before ea mvp, it was the best baseball. As you said real stances and hitting home runs in that game was so satisfying.
I was a little surprised that "Summer Heat Beach Volleyball" wasn't mentioned. Maybe it was because, one, it was actually done by Acclaim, not Acclaim Sports. Two, it actually was not a bad game.
I liked Aklaim Sport’s All Star Baseball series the 98 had walk up songs, something MLB the show still don’t have is rain delays, games suspensions and rescheduling. Dynamic crowd such as KC Royals having almost no fans on the stands unless I decide to play with the team. However, the game had it issues but to me, the NBA Jam 96 and All star baseball 98-2000 were their best 2 games. Wait, they didn’t fix the gameplay for 05? That’s the exact gameplay for 98 in N64 that’s exactly why I hated playing but most of the ideas they apparently are way ahead of time MLB the show doesn’t have those features.
Acclaim was the company that bought and owned another infamous video game company; LJN. They were also the company that sold their soul to the Devil for the license to produce Simpsons video games, thus preventing Konami from being able to give The Simpsons Arcade game proper 16-bit releases on the SNES and Sega Genesis. Acclaim's Simpsons games were mediocre at best and hot garbage at worst. Acclaim had failed to evolve as a video game company and continued to make low-quality video games, which inevitably led to them going bankrupt in 2004.
That territory mode in Legends Of Wrestling 3 was a guilty pleasure of mine back in the day. Just fun enough grind to work my way across america eating turnbuckles and taking names.
I never played any Acclaim Sports titles and didn't even know a lot of these games existed until now, but I did play XGRA, an Acclaim title part of the Extreme-G series. I thought XGRA was a really fun futuristic racing game for what it's worth.
Im pretty certain that the announcer for the lacross game was a sports radio personality that went by the name Ferrell. He sounds pretty distinct Only know him cuz of O & A vids on yt lol
I remember having NBA Jam on my original XBOX, it’s fantastic to know after all of these years that I was robbed of playing the much better NBA Street Vol. 2 I also had both Legends of Wrestling games. Goodness, I was a disturbed child.
All star baseball was really good in the early 2000's. Insanely deep franchise mode. They had stuff like team creation, and the rule 5 draft way back on ps2. Those games were very good.
Brother I enjoyed this video! I know for sure that Acclaim Sports sucks. I had their ECW: Hardcore Revolution for GBA and couldn’t get over the annoying music and boring gameplay. So I went to a friends place who had a PSX and we bumped the console version…. It wasn’t much better. I do have an observation though; You use 46 EA Sports games vs 29 Acclaim games. The average score for EA was 85.6 while for a Acclaim was 64.5. Looking at this stat alone, it is not surprising. It would have been if the amount of games released was switched between companies (meaning EA released fewer than Acclaim but still got a higher aggregate score). Just pointing it out there as a math nerd. 🤓 Great job on the video bro! EDIT: Including Sega Sports hit the nail on the head of how bad Acclaim Sports was. 👍🏼
ASB 99 was one of the most frustrating games ever. Wanted to like it but every create a player would bat .175 no matter the stats so it made building a franchise futile.

WTH was Acclaim Studios all I know they made NBA, MLB games and all that stuff bossman.
I bought NBA Jam for the PS2 because you could.unlock the old Boston Garden. The clerk foat out said this game is awful, try 2K or NBA Live
Raw is war was my first wrestling game and I got so much out of it. I would love to go back and see how it holds up today.
That LaCrosse game voice was Scott Farrell. Lol. He’s Steve-o if Steve-o did a whole key before a game and cared about sports lol.
ASB games were the best baseball games on the N64.
That’s the best I can say about them
I played the crap outta allstar baseball on my 64
I think in the early 90s, Acclaim lived off of transporting arcade games to home consoles they really didn't have to do much with that
Acclaim was the company that bought and owned another infamous video game company; LJN.
Ok ok let me just say this, I won't accept any NFL QB club slander
5:04 nah the snes and genesis game wasn’t bad at all especially during their era we used to love these
That territory mode in Legends Of Wrestling 3 was a guilty pleasure of mine back in the day.
All-Star Baseball, WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, Jeremy McGrath, QB Club early N64 days, and Dave Mirra were well received.
I grew up playing NFL Gameday 2000 and loved it
U forgot about Big Ant Studios
Im pretty certain that the announcer for the lacross game was a sports radio personality that went by the name Ferrell.
He sounds pretty distinct
Only know him cuz of O & A vids on yt lol

I remember having NBA Jam on my original XBOX, it’s fantastic to know after all of these years that I was robbed of playing the much better NBA Street Vol. 2
I also had both Legends of Wrestling games. Goodness, I was a disturbed child.
All star baseball was really good in the early 2000's. Insanely deep franchise mode.
They had stuff like team creation, and the rule 5 draft way back on ps2.
Those games were very good.
Royal rumble was a classic
I had some good memories of playing WWF Warzone and Attitude. Tough to play, but good nostalgia especially Warzone.
I'd have to disagree that Warzone and Attitude actually were well received. But just overshadowed after once THQs Smackdown games came out.
Nicely recieeeved 🗣️
There are only four others that could be considered worse.
LJN, Tiger, “Wisdom Tree”/Color Dreams, and Stellar Stone.
Appreciate ya!
They made blast lacrosse that was awesome
You’re looking at Warzone and Attitude from a weird view my guy - these were great games and broke barriers at that time you buggin
NBA ShowTime still one of the best Arcade Basketball games of all time. That and the NBA Street series.
ASB 99 was one of the most frustrating games ever. Wanted to like it but every create a player would bat .175 no matter the stats so it made building a franchise futile.
