Merle Haggard is every musiations dream. There's no one can compare to his awesome talent in every catagory. RIP my dear friend. You wouldn't like this old world the condition we are in now. Jesus knew.
The date of this concert was May 12th of 1984. I met the band in September, including Merle, his daughter Dana who was touring with him singing a few songs. Freddy Powers was on the tour too with Deanie Bird Reynolds & Clint Strong. Noel was on the tour too and sang a couple songs. Strangers were Roy Nichols, Norm Hamlet, Mark Yeary, Tiny Moore, Jimmy Belken, Dennis Hromek, Biff Adams, Gary Church, Don Markham & Donna Faye. Same group as on this video. I'll never get over the size of that tour... 5 busses and two trucks & 59 people including Hag, the band, the guest stars, sound and light crew and concessions (T-shirts, hats, tapes, records, pictures etc)! Imagine the insurance on that bunch!!
@@nicifilteau1447 There was a film crew at the concert I attended and the sound board was then a state of the art 48 channel mixing console! You are absolutely correct. The concert I attended was a local hospital foundation fund raiser concert series. Hag was one of several big name stars who appeared over the summer of '84. I was told by a hospital insider that he was paid $50K for the concert $30 of which was a direct donation to the hospital leaving him $20K for his expenses and a healthy tax write off - which he needed at the time. BTW - They drove all night the preceding evening from Redding to Hemet, CA arriving in time for breakfast and check in's at the local Best Western, Quality Inn and another motel chain. I met Hag the 1st time after the concert at his bus while hanging out with Tiny Moore and Gary Church who roomed together, as well as Mark Yeary (whose parents lived in Hemet!) and got to meet Dana - but I missed meeting Noel who was there as well as Freddy Powers and Clint Strong. Twas a night to remember! ;)
My Mom took my sister and I to see Merle in about 1980. It was a treat to herself after she divorced my Dad. Ha ha ha. It was a festival with maybe 4 or 5 other acts. I was just but a child and when hag closed people in front all stood up a couldn't see anything as I was butt level to them. Years later when I started playing and became a HUGE Roy Nichols geek thought it sucked that I was there but didn't really get to see him'! Oh well I Was too young to steal any licks anyway;) Sorry to bug you on this but wanted you to know I'm a fan of you as well. Found you on the J. Reed tribute Videos as I was nerding out on Brent Mason. Love your tone and feel and I have one of those gold guard p basses as well.
Back in 2012 or so. He came to Marksville LA. My Daughter & I was going to go. But His Tickets Sold out Fast. So Hate that We did not get to go. Great Voice and Band.

Thank you so much for getting this up here! My mom has been looking for the song that Merle is singing here named "I Think I'll Stay" for literally years! If that song was ever placed on an album, do you know which one? She saw him sing the song in Jacksonville, FL around this time in the 1980s and she loved it! (smiles) God bless you and her and Merle always!!! Holly in East Tennessee

Merle the pearl in his prime!
keeping outlaw country music alive
Walks on stage like a boss.
boss but humble man.
Walks on like he means business.
After he's done, you knew you heard some special music.
Tiny Moore on electric mandolin - he played with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
Thanks for the Fairfax show. If there is more please help us complete this show! Love the mid 80's Hag.
