    I liked that this season focuses on the class inequality, racism, and homophobia as the sources of the entitlement that brought about the viciousness of the hazing and awful treatment of certain people in the school throughout it's history. When the new principal says proudly they are very diverse, she doesn't get that while there are various social, financial, racial, and sexual orientation minorities admitted, they are all treated horribly... usually in secret, but sometimes not...and overlooked.

    I feel as though the show has always in a great part been about class differences and the effects of privilege, though I agree that in this season it’s more overt than in the first two seasons. That does make it different from shows where the focus is much more solely on relationships - I’m not saying that makes it better, but it does set it apart.

  • @belpop
    @belpop 8 месяцев назад +21

    AHHHHHHH I am so excited!!! You’re soooooo not ready. This season is truly immaculate. Without any spoilers I’ll say the series finale is not only the best ep of the whole show, but the best series finale of any show I’ve ever seen. 😭 And ep 5 is RIGHT UP THERE WITH IT. Like it’s INSANE. They put their whole hearts and souls into this final season. Blood sweat and tears. 💜🤍Also I am a Wille defender through and through but if he had shushed me I would’ve kicked him out of the tent. 🤣 Also Wille is just trying to relate and be part of the conversation, but he doesn’t really fit in due to his different circumstances and lifestyle. Also I HATE the fact that the royal court makes Wille be the one to go to Simon to tell him not to do something. It just puts animosity between them.

    Infamous real life response to the religious preaching of course happened at London Pride 2022 when the Heartstopper cast gave a group of sermon shouters the finger and joyfully danced in their faces as they passed by as part of the parade. They repeated the same thing as they passed the same group in 2023 on their Heartstopper float. If they do it again this year it may be considered a tradition.

      They've only been properly dating and spending time together this season which lasts 3 months, and they have restricted opportunities to have conversations. They will get to know more about each other with time and away from the drama of this school year. We actually know Wille and Simon more than they know each other - partly because we have their points of view scenes - and partly because some of us have been watching and rewatching them for three years. Their relationship is still new.

  • @kendalcoombs5540
    @kendalcoombs5540 8 месяцев назад +13

    I felt like Wille said he was working over summer too because the conversation was becoming very "oh you've never been to New York, that's so sad" and he wanted to say something that sort of said "we're actually not that different" and diplomatically shut down a conversation that was veering into dangerous territory. I think even though he is very privileged he can see commonalities with Simon's friends and understand their point of view because despite all his wealth and privilege he doesn't have a choice in what he does with his life, he doesn't have freedoms others do. I can see where Simon is coming from in the sense that his friends were being treated badly by the others but I also think Simon is not connected at all to his own privilege. I don't remember why he and Sara are at Hilerska but I doubt their immigrant single mother can afford the fees of an elite boarding school attended by literal royalty so i assume they're on some kind of scholarship. Simon is very privileged to be attending that school when his friends aren't, and having been a student for a while he surely understands the class divide well enough to see how that situation might have played out if Wille hadn't been so tactful. Simon is being very reckless and a bit selfish this season, reading the comments when everyone is telling you not to is bad enough but responding to them is just stupid. He's not listening to Wille who has been raised in the spotlight and is always on guard, being careful in public etc. And is trying to help guide him through this situation. I think the shoosh could be seen as quite harsh, but I don't think it was a "shut up" shoosh, having a very loud argument about class privilege in a tent is ridiculous, you can hear everything through the walls of a tent, I think he meant it more like "lower your voice". Wille has lived the quiet royal life his whole life so it's now second nature to him and he's not always good at guiding Simon through this new life, but he had also not had any support from the crown or his family so I think he's doing the best he can.

    • @lynnhettrick7588
      @lynnhettrick7588 8 месяцев назад +2

      I believe Hillerska is free to attend but the fees are for living there. I do think Wilhelm was just trying to distract from the others saying that they can't believe that Rosh and Ayub have never been to the U.S. and looking down on them. But Wille should've worded it differently and not compare it too much. Just say that he has duties this summer and isn't free to do what he wants. Something like that. And Wille should've said "lower your voice," instead of shushing Simon.

    • @kendalcoombs5540
      @kendalcoombs5540 8 месяцев назад +2

      @lynnhettrick7588 it's been a tough season for them, the weight of the crown is crushing them both, Wille is struggling with the reality of possibly taking over from his mother, he's got no real support system in place, he's certainly not getting any help from his parents, and he's trying to just be a teenager, navigating an unconventional (for the crown) relationship. Simon has been thrust into the spotlight and is taking the public attention to heart, he had had no media training or anything from the crown which you would think would be a given in these situations. We do see the first telling Wille to keep him in line and Wille seems to be doing his best to protect Simon from this aspect of royal life by not letting the firm do it directly, but admittedly he's not doing a very good job. Given all this their communication with each other unerstandably leaves much to be desired, but at the end of the day they are just teenagers so that's to be expected. It's also worth noting that although it's been 3 seasons it hasn't even been a full year for these characters, they have had to deal with a lot in a short amount of time, I'm sure Wille hasn't fully dealt with the loss of his brother, he hasn't really had time given the implications for him and his new role in the royal family as a result, plus I don't know about you, but when I first got into a relationship with my now husband we didn't do a whole lot of talking if you know what I mean.
      Also I'm pretty sure this school does have some sort of fee structure because there was that whole story line in the first season of August's fees being overdue. Even if the school itself is free and just the board costs money, then there must at the very least be entry requirements because otherwise everyone in Bjarstad would go there surely.

      Lmao you just love Wille and will defend anything he does. Just because he went through shit doesn't excuse his actions at all. He treated Simon like shit this season. Simon a poc gay lower class. What privileges are you even talking about? And compared to Wille?? LMAO Wille is privilege af compared to Simon and Simon was just trying to make him understand that because he should but what he did? Shushed him and ofc you are even defending that by making dumb excuses.

    I agree with Alex that it is really bad story telling when show just bring up random issues out of nowhere but in this shows all these issues have been there from the beginning. I feel like while all this stuff was going on from day one it was never directly addressed because there was always some bigger more immediate drama to deal with but now that things have somewhat(?) calmed down a bit in their relationship, they have the time to talk about them. And Wilhelm shushing Simon was WILD! I’d be throwing hands. He reminded me of his mother in that moment.

    I really think the palace should have helped simon more. How can he handle this?! And also the queen having the same symptoms as her son kinda feels validating. Especially in the first season I felt they thought of him as annoying for feeling this anxiety.
    6:58 I think almost everyone's love language is touch when your a teenager and the hormones are very very active 😂
    I loved Felice this season, she was really growing ❤
    The fighting in the tent was such a big moment. Because they were both not wrong. For Wilhelm it is working because he doesnt want to do this and he doesnt have a choice but also he should see that he is very rich and gets alot because he is who he is. And also omg the shushing, I had the same gasp. So not okay. 😮

    I 'love' how this season they really managed to bring up issues like class differences and the actual gay hate, that weren't in the center of attention before as much, but make perfectly sense. Many shows just get absurd in creating new drama, but this here is quite realistic. As much as I loved that the sexuality wasn't as much of an issue before in the narrative, it's just a sad reality that it still matters to some idiots in this world in the shown content. And I also love the realism in the conversations. These are teenagers, and unlike in Heartstopper, they aren't perfect in communicating their needs and issues, they are torn between pleasing the other and standing their ground. Just as regular teens do.

    • @lynnhettrick7588
      @lynnhettrick7588 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, Nick and Charlie are very mature in their communication styles. They model behavior for a healthy relationship. Simon and Wille are a bit more realistic and don't always say things perfectly because they are still only 16-17 years old.
      I'm torn about the showing of homophobia. It would be nice if that wasn't always the problem for queer couples, but it is a reality for many same-sex couples around the world unfortunately.

    • @82evene
      @82evene 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@lynnhettrick7588 Maybe the realism comes from them improvising so much, too. Omar and Edvin got to freestyle a very lot like the whole lake scene later on and I actually love that.

    I understand simons stance but at the same time Wilhelm has responsiblities, he lost his brother less than a year ago and now has to make sure that he represent his family in a good light while also learning how to lead an entire nation,. And while we as a modern society and everyday people can look at someone like him with money and privileges and say that his life is easy, imagine every second of your life being put under a microscope by people who want to either uses you or see you fail. Never being able to make a mistake because then the entire country will see you as a the bad guy, and having to deal with that at such a young age, while opening up about your sexually identity. What these kids need to do is a have a calm, open communication about what they are going through without judge one another and letting there feelings be known.

    It feels to me that no-one in his life is really seeing things from Wille’s perspective. He does have to work all summer - in a job he does not want to do. He has no more freedom than the others who are working. Also, he may come from a privileged background, but he is just as limited by that, if not more so, than Simon. And it is not a privilege that he wants. It seems like an easy insult to say ‘oh, you’re rich, you wouldn’t understand. And what’s more, it makes you a worse person’

    • @lynnhettrick7588
      @lynnhettrick7588 8 месяцев назад +1

      There's a balance though. Rosh, Ayub, and Simon can mostly pick the type of work they want to do, which Wille can't do. But working so you can buy basics, like clothes and maybe help support the family, isn't the same as going to prince school. There are similarities and there are differences. Wille never has to worry about food, clothing, and a roof over his head. But he lacks freedom to do what he wants to do. Simon and his friends have more freedom to live their life, but they are restricted by needing basics to live life. They can't just run off to NYC.

    for the "I'm gonna work this summer too" from Wilhelm, I actually think he said it just to be "like the others", for one second. I don't think he was thinking about what all this imply for simon and his friends. And even if it was not a really clever move from him, I think Simon and his friends are more privileged than Wilhelm. Because even if they can't do every thing the could dream, they can all live in the way THEY want. They aren't rich, but they're free, and being free is the best privilege we can all have
