this was actually somewhat helpful, lmao. I'm a freshman and the idea becoming drum major someday has always kept my interest. your expressiveness and ability to show dynamics (something our current DM doesn't do, although she's pretty good at tempo) is something I'll keep in mind. I really hope to be as good as that in senior year.
This made me laugh a few times, no offense. Some of your thoughts are just too funny. As for me, Im in a pit. I know the problems between us and drumline.
I’m trying out for drum major my junior year this year I am beyond excited! I came across your video and you did amazing!! I’m lucky I’m getting to have a season after what has gone on but I loved watching your conducting pattern! It’s always nice to see other conducting patterns haha. :)
I was super excited about this and laughing until the 2nd movement... and got really confused because that was our 3rd movement this year... and then laughed because I forgot that's a thing that bands do lol. Love from Leander!
Hi and congrats!! It's okay to be nervous - over time, you'll grow into that position. In front of the band, you just gotta fake it till you make it. Be willing to take constructive criticism and don't be afraid to ask for feedback (for conducting, leadership, etc). Most importantly, don't compare yourself to anyone else - your band directors chose you for you, so lead with confidence as your awesome self! Hope that helps 😊
Our drum major is on the field and he does twirling/tossing with a baton. Our directors are the only ones on the ladder, so when I clicked on this I was like ??? It’s pretty cool tho, you’re good at what you do even if I don’t really understand it lol
Okay. So I know this is old but almost all (if not all) drum majors give you a stink face if you mess up. At times they won’t even recognize it😂😂 I can’t count the times I missed a set and a drum major wanted to beat the living stars out of me.
Yeahhh 😅 basically I learned it from a previous drum major that I looked up to and just copied her pattern. Later on I learned that hitches are bad (unless you're subdividing and being intentional with it) and relearned how to conduct without hitches and fixed other bad habits I had
super precise but really hitchy my band directors got on to me if i accidentally hitched for a beat :/ good job tho mate lemme give you a shoulder rub lmfao
sam hernandez lol thanks. And yeah my band director later told me that my 3 pattern is hitchy. It's a common habit that even he is working to get rid of. I've worked on my conducting since then ;)
yeah personally i've never had a hitch bc of how i learned and who i learned from and my directors loved it but i've always had trouble getting my team to match be smoother. what grade are you in and are you head? the best part of being a drum major i think is at the big hits and you can literally feel the sound :') i'm gonna miss this stuff
sam hernandez now that I think about it, the person who I mimicked to learn how to conduct had a hitch! I am actually a freshman in college this year, but that video was from my senior year in high school. I was head drum major my junior year and then shared it with my buddy, Jake, the year after. This year I'm actually a conductor for the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and I'm super excited for that!
This is the first time I actually watched the drum major
BIG MOOD
Telling the bd
Anyone else have a pink line going down their screen
Yes
@Lemmy NG I think everyone has it

Aww thank you so much, glad I could help! Good luck!
Same here as a junior already I'm so excited for my Senior year I will be the drum major for sure
I’m terrified bc im the first drum major in many years to conduct the field show and I have no idea how anything works
You got this! Don't be afraid to do some research and ask for help! And then practice practice practice! I believe in you :)
This made me laugh a few times, no offense. Some of your thoughts are just too funny. As for me, Im in a pit. I know the problems between us and drumline.

The nostalgia! Looking forward to getting to see you at comps this summer. Have fun at OC!
Jimmy Darrow aw thanks Jimmy!!! ❤️ I'm so proud of you for marching PC :)
Thanks :)
I’m currently the Drum Major for my band (a junior now) and I’m wondering what I will think about when I’m actually conducting 😅
Ahh I got drum major for sophomore year and am extremely nervous (didn’t expect to actually get it) any advice?? Also I love this vid

@@cilantro-whomst I also got drum major my sophomore year and my band directors did choose me for me- it’s like wow I really made it
i really hope i look like you when i conduct lol. your style is so pretty to look at!
Aww thank you! I've learned a lot since then so I recommend not hitching (like I did in this video) for clarity and energy conservation!
First of all love your pattern and what school are you?
Thank you for the kind words! This is Moorpark High School and I am oh-so-proud of the program ;)
Np and I can see why.
I’m a mellophone and I approve of this video
“drumline stop rushing” we know what we’re doing and we also wish we weren’t doing it
nothing but fax
I want to be drum major but it seems intense, gotta tryhard for it
Go for it! You got this! The audition itself will be a valuable experience regardless of the outcome :)
@@cilantro-whomst alright, well guess I'm gonna need to try my best! I'll try going for it next year and hopefully it'll go good thanks :)
What division is this band?
Trumpets, stop blaring. Bass clarinets, play louder. Drumline, to harsh. Mellophones, stay on time.
Books 4Free We don't march bass clarinets--no wonder you couldn't hear them! XD
Hey I'm Harrison I think all mellophones in all marching(not drum corps) bands are out of time.
Lowbrass keep your horns up!
What is this off time you speak of? Us Mellophones are always on time!
As a bass clarinet I can confirm
I like the way you conduct I'm the only junior looking forward to this position in my Senior year as drum major so I'll need some tips and that's it

I'm not in matching band but I Constance feel this way 😂😂

I want to be a drum major so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😢😢😭😭😭
It's definitely a lot of commitment. I'm going to audition next year.
mercy street?
omg i love P.G. this is so cool
You know it 😎
You've got a mad hitch in your pattern, what's you reason for that?
Yeahhh 😅 basically I learned it from a previous drum major that I looked up to and just copied her pattern. Later on I learned that hitches are bad (unless you're subdividing and being intentional with it) and relearned how to conduct without hitches and fixed other bad habits I had
dude what is this show its so pretty-
I can hear amp static.

sam hernandez thank you so much! 😄 Definitely check us out this season! We just announced our show today and it's gonna be awesome 🔥🔥
Hey you're pretty good! I like the show too.
Aw thank you so much! I appreciate it :)
