    Until about 20 minutes ago, I had never been up a tree on a rope. I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to do it, so I bought all the stuff, including a SAKA and watched a bunch of youtubes. I followed your advice to the letter and went straight up first try. I look forward to doing this a lot from now on. Thank you!

    Great video showing how to set up the SAKA system. Because of its adaptiveness to different climbing systems and techniques, it can be confusing as to what is correct. I purchased my rig a few years ago and am convinced it is the best way to get up into the tree. My greatest difficulty has been releasing the rope cams while hanging from the hitchhiker. So I was pleased to see the new idea of a tiny lanyard to pull the cam. Wearing light colored clothes, in the video, would reveal the hardware better. Thank you for your efforts Richard.

      It is very important to release all of the tension from the cam before attempting to open it.
      Thanks for your comments

    Such a thorough explanation of setup and use of the Saka knee ascender. So much better than the typical (brief) video put out by others. Thank you…

    Thank you 4 clear explanations & examples of customization! So glad I can shorten this w/o damaging it. I'm a 5'1" newbie & This video gave me the data I needed to decide between this vs. the shortie Haas V.

    Hello Richard, I just watched your brek test of the Alpine and the Bowline (2018) Awesome and very cool. I was just wondering how to tie a "running" Alpine when your video came on? How perfect is that, thank you again for all your work. Like you said "Let the chips fall where they may" Jim.

    IMPORTANT : Richard is right on, NOTE: if Your knee ascender bungie is too tight You cannot unclip the rope once You reach Your canopy high point / transition point as You need slack in order to un-clip otherwise Your knee / foot will be stuck possibly above Your waist (( ask me how I know lol ))

    Been wanting to try those climbing shoes you wear ..i seen them on your site...do they fit true to size and can i install insoles cushions in them...whats your opinion on them..i wear size nine in my salewa mid gtx boots..but can vary.in other brands i wear 8 or 10 s..hard to buy pants and boots being short..spikes as well i have to cutt of 1/3/4 inches of the shank height..with grinder...then drill new holes..i finaly found the best and only summer chainsaw pants besides cloggers zeros that are way high priced..the rest are way to hot 🔥 for Tennessee..summers..arborwear has dogwoods there amazing lightweight with knee vents in rear ..and professional appearance with light pro colors

    Hi Richard, I'm 5' 9 1/2" with 30" inseam. I'm a new climber 66 years young. Will it fit me right out of the box?
    I climb MRS on a 5-3 Blake's and I use a Jet-Step.

    • @RichardMumford1
      @RichardMumford1  3 года назад +1

      That's part of the question. It can right out of the bag but so much depends on factors like where you attach to, how big are your steps, where is your multicender located etc.

      @@RichardMumford1 ok thank you. I'll be ordering one soon. Someone mentioned you have other models besides the Saka, so I better look at my choices before ordering.

    So for short individuals, they need to take a brand new saka and cut it (damage it) so that it'll work for them? Did I hear you say that? Not sure I want to spend that kind of money just to go and cut and damage the products as the first thing I do with it.

    • @RichardMumford1
      @RichardMumford1  3 года назад +2

      I presented another option if you watch. I used to make shorties for kids and shorter climbers, I don't think they saw it as damaged.

      @@RichardMumford1 I'm sorry I was just going by what you clearly said as "cutting the bottom off" in the video at the 6:14 mark.

      @@kizersousa1155 Yes, I clearly did say that. If someone wanted me to make them a custom shorty, that's exactly what I would do.

      I can understand your viewpoint. I suppose it’s impossible to make a completely universal knee ascender, to where it fits perfectly out of the box for everyone. The saka does however hit that 99 percentile range. Hands down the most versatile, efficient, quality and adjustable knee ascender on the market. And I honestly don’t even own one.... yet lol. I’ve used one before though and one gets what they pay for. I can’t personally attest to it but it also sounds like the customer service isn’t too bad either... given he’s commented that he’d customize one for a shorter climber 👏 . I just can’t imagine any climber really needing that done for them, seeing how easily it could be accomplished with a pair of scissors and about 60 seconds of spare time. I’ll be making the purchase as soon as my homemade saka gives out on me 👀😂.

    So then we need a chest harness ?

    • @RichardMumford1
      @RichardMumford1  2 года назад

      If you are ascending SRT you will need something to auto advance the ascender, like a chest harness. I find that my anchor point to that device is a perfect place to attach the SAKA. It keeps the bungee below your climbing device and in line with the rope. This can be done because the bungee is below the ascender on the SAKA unlike other knee ascender that have the bungee above the ascender.
      It may also be connected anywhere else to your person or even to a wrist strap, but somewhere above so that it can advance as you advance.
      In a doubled moving rope configuration where the climbing device will advance up the rope on its own, a connecting to that device or knot is all that is needed.
