Heroes was my first Sonic game and I was most intrigued by Shadow and Metal Sonic, so this fight is just everything I could’ve hoped for. Him calling Shadow a fake hedgehog is just brilliant. The voice isn’t as cool now but his lines of being driven clearly made by wanting to be more than just a copy of Sonic, him having Chaos Control, and him using the Chaos data he stole to cause the whirlpool are just perfect
Yeah sadly Sega is most likely never gonna get Ryan back to voice Metal or regular Sonic ever again. And because of that Metal just sounds more like a generic monster like villain vs having some levels of complexity to how he sounds.

While Sonic Heroes wasn’t my first Sonic game, it was real close. So I can relate to what you are saying, and can easily call this my favorite boss fight in all of Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Metal thinks he’s Sonic is also a fake and believes he himself is the real Sonic. The robot is literally in a self delusion and perhaps in an existential crisis.
Considering that Eggman made shadow androids looking so close to the original they could be passed off as one, I'm surprised he didn't ask for an upgrade. (Though he probably destroyed every last shadow android once they were activated to prove a point)

Sonic defeated Chaos, an entity that required Super form to fight. Doom powered Shadow defeated Metal Overlord, which required 3 super forms to fight... Doom Shadow's strength is ABSURD!!
One Superform and two hyper mode Characters* Metal Overlord is indeed more powerful than Perfect Chaos but he was defeated by a Chaos Powers Frenzy of Team Sonic being Sonic the only one that really can do anything to Metal. Tails and Knuckles were just an extra buff, not really in Superform level

What I like thematically about all of Shadow's Boss fights in this game is each one is connected to him not just in that he's fought or encountered them before, but that they share his DNA in a way (though Mephiles is a bit of a stretch) Edit: nvm Mephiles is quite close to Shadow's DNA
Mephiles was litterely mostly in shadows story more than the others, constantly tries to manipulate him into joining Mephiles and he copied shadows form.
From needing all 12 characters plus the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Heroes to defeat Metal Sonic, to Shadow being able to destroy him by himself and without a superform.
Yeah even with a power boost Shadow honestly should have struggled to even put a fight against him. But then again Generations combat system relies on players just throwing stuff per se at most of the bosses.

That could be handwaved away as Metal Overlord suffering the same fate as in Heroes - reverting back to Neo and then the "base" Metal Sonic form from taking too much damage (both of which would be too small to clearly see in the cutscene). In Heroes, Metal shortly after deactivated ("passed out") and was apparently given back to Eggman by Team Dark offscreen, but here in a flooded area with no one else in sight...
Sad they couldn't get Ryan Drummond back for Metal Overlord. I like his Sonic but his Neo Metal Sonic was some of the best voice acting in Sonic history.
It's all about when to use Chaos Control at the right time to fling the red missiles back. Also, making sure you pretty much perfectly hit every piece of rubble you can. You need to get metal to half health before he does the tail swipe, otherwise, restart
Not the real Metal Overlord without that ridiculously long transformation cutscene. Better yet, make the timer still go on while the cutscene is playing just to make subsequent playthroughs for S rank a living hell.
Guys, i need to know be ause ive heard both. Is this meant to take place in a flooded Final Forteess or is this Metal Harbor? If its FF, why is it flooded? Thats not what happened in Heroes and im just confused.
It's the original concept for the final fortress supposedly, it was to fit with the leviathan motif Metal overlord has but they ended up making the level take place in the air in the end
I'm guessing his dialogue is based more on how he was in the comics, because it felt noticeably off-character from the original in Sonic Heroes. Well, to me anyway.

I wonder what the context to this stage is. Did the giant whale ship crash and sink into the ocean or did Sonic and the gang fail to stop Metal? Why in an ocean terrain? You have to wonder what the context to this stuff is sometimes.
It is implied that the Final Fortress battleship fell into the ocean since the stage in Heroes is set while its on the air. Apart from possibly using it as an excuse to use the Doom Surf powers in a Boss fight, there's no mention as to why the battle takes place there, could be because they didnt had the emeralds and Metal just wanted to show his power by taking down the ship just like he showcased what he could do as Neo.

Not only that but the battle seems to begin once he is already transformed, thus maybe leaving the chance of they failed to stop him even with the emeralds or they did not had the emeralds at all. The ships that are floating into the ocean could also be the result of Overlord just wrecking havoc or the scraps of what remained during the attack on the Final Fortress

No, it does make sense. All the bosses in Shadow's campaign have some kind biological relationship to Shadow. Biolizard is the prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform Metal Overlord contains a copy of Shadow's bio-data, hence why he can use Chaos Control Mephiles has taken Shadow's form through Shadow's shadow Black Doom's blood is the same as Shadow's.

I actually struggled with this boss the first time. The timing on his attacks is still weird to me.

Shadow generations is 30fps on ps4 Xbox one ps4 pro and Xbox one X because they use Hedgehog engine 2
Guys, i need to know be ause ive heard both. Is this meant to take place in a flooded Final Forteess or is this Metal Harbor? If its FF, why is it flooded? Thats not what happened in Heroes and im just confused.
It's the original concept for the final fortress supposedly, it was to fit with the leviathan motif Metal overlord has but they ended up making the level take place in the air in the end

I'm guessing his dialogue is based more on how he was in the comics, because it felt noticeably off-character from the original in Sonic Heroes. Well, to me anyway.

I am debating on skipping the PC my computer might not handle it you make me wanna play my PS4 again gonna have to get a new controller which is about it but if it has a physical copy I am debating on replacing my Steam games with PS4 and playing the Alan Wake game on the Xbox I'm seriously thinking about getting back into console gaming.

I wonder what the context to this stage is. Did the giant whale ship crash and sink into the ocean or did Sonic and the gang fail to stop Metal? Why in an ocean terrain? You have to wonder what the context to this stuff is sometimes.

It is implied that the Final Fortress battleship fell into the ocean since the stage in Heroes is set while its on the air. Apart from possibly using it as an excuse to use the Doom Surf powers in a Boss fight, there's no mention as to why the battle takes place there, could be because they didnt had the emeralds and Metal just wanted to show his power by taking down the ship just like he showcased what he could do as Neo.
@@SharkNash Good theory, I pretty much was thinking the same thing as well, except them still failing even if they had the emeralds. tbh Also Metal can definitely be merciless in terms of being a villain since the ships he tosses at team Sonic carries a massive amount of egg pawns and who knows what as well as being stated that he's Eggman's deadliest creation.
@@joshuashoup1051 In Heroes, Doctor Eggman says that even with the Chaos Emeralds, as if gathering all 7, it required a miracle to beat Metal Overlord. Not only that but the battle seems to begin once he is already transformed, thus maybe leaving the chance of they failed to stop him even with the emeralds or they did not had the emeralds at all. The ships that are floating into the ocean could also be the result of Overlord just wrecking havoc or the scraps of what remained during the attack on the Final Fortress

No Shadow was purposely designed to look like a hedgehog by Gerald, Metal is more of a fake because he is at his core still a machine.
Metal Overlord in Shadow's campaign makes no sense, and he should have been replaced with Infinite instead.
