Your wife has a sharp eye and is such a hard worker! You two are truly blessed. I can't help but think that not a day goes by without you guys totally appreciating each other. What a wonderful example you are setting. I am so glad I found your channel. I have gotten more done around here than ever just being inspired by you. Thank you.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
They remind me of my parents growing up. My mom and dad always worked together on projects around the house. I thought that was normal. Then I grew up and realized it's not. It should be. You should ENJOY doing things as a couple. Yes this is a GREAT example, especially for the kids.
I AM oddly excited to see this come together. You two are essentially building a new home. All of the work you are doing would cost SO much more if you paid a contractor and I doubt they would do as good a job. There is so much pride and happiness involved. No mansion could mean more. On top of that I'm watching a history that hundreds of years from now will fascinate people, particularly your descendants. Well done and thank you.
Good morning friends, Love the new windows. I’m sure your new neighbors are watching and enjoying the progress as much as we do. Have an awesome weekend relax and have some fun. Blessings from my home to yours ❤️
You guys are the only DIY home reno channel I LOVE watching. I look forward to every upload. And am sad when I finish and have to wait. House is looking so good!
I Love watching these people, for one reason, they take you with them and show you how to do it as they go. its not like alot of others i have watched where they act like there way is the only way to do it and no matter what they are right, there don't act like snobs or know it all. they act like they learn as we do and let us follow them.and they act human to the camera.
The Ozark Duke I agree with you completely. Doug and Ashley are real people not snobs or jerks like some of the couples. I’ve unsubscribed due to one who I had followed from the beginning of their build. Never was real impressed with the husband to begin with but he turned into a know it all jerk. They have lost many viewers. This couple have a whole different demeanor. Super sweet family.
I have never in my life felt such joy about new windows, not in all my years of watching home improvement shows. You two must just be magical. Look at it. Even with the wrap alone the house appears to be smiling...
I would LOVE to have new windows! My mobile home is a 1981, and still has the old aluminum windows....I hope someday to be able to afford to replace them, but living on disability doesn’t leave any room to build a savings. I don’t comment often, but I love watching your videos and am so impressed with your skills! You both work so good together! Thank you for sharing your journey on this remodel. ❤️
My husband is a building inspector and I had him watch. He said that some manufacturers say you are supposed to do the housewrap the way you did. He says you should always follow the manufacturer suggestion or you void any warranty. I think you do a great job. I can’t wait to see the finished job because I love all your finish work on the bedrooms. It’s very danish looking to me and so neat and tranquil.
Aw wow Doug with your cutting I think you should have been a surgeon lol, bet belle and maverick are really excited for when it will all be finished I really love your two children they are not one bit spoilt like over here in the U.K they don’t want all high end toys, they love things they can make they wander round your house helping and searching for different things they can find and use they are so polite and very helpful, your windows are absolutely gorgeous you have done so well so for now god bless you and take care xx
There is no doubt at all about Belle and Maverick being just lovely. They are . They look just perfect to me . To give the children and families living in places where ‘stuff’ distorts values and attitudes their due , it is not easy . With advertising and the barrage of ‘ look what Ive got ‘ , and ‘ to be cool buy this ‘ it’s very nearly impossible to keep life simple . The tide of consumerism is a powerful flash flood , nearly impossible to resist . Also , lives are necessarily very busy these days for Mum and Dad . Corners tend to be cut , and time to be with children to guide and direct is in short supply . This trend is not confined to any particular country , it is a very tricky aspect of ‘Progress’ .
For everyone that thinks they did the windows wrong they followed manufacturers instructions. I know most men dont follow instructions but my hubby does. Obviously Doug does too. Great job I am so excited for you both. P.s. for all the critics their debt free and living life simply. I would rather live in something DIYFFERNTLY is building than the bigger construction company's.
Good job , x cut on wrap for windows , , wraps headers and sides , just a pointer doug . I know you do excellent work you always have . . Keep up the excellent work guys , your doing just fine . . See maverick is the building inspector today , . .
What a difference a window or three make. Looks sharp. Disasters? Nah! Learning moments! This is great that your making all these video's, because when totally finished, it will blow your minds how beautiful this house is and you made it happened.
I am so addicted to your channel that not only have I started from the beginning of this house so I can look forward to the next video and keep up with this journey. But I’ve started watching your videos from your old house! I am still in amazement of you both! You are like a well oiled machine, you two work so well together and I mean that in a loving way, it’s proof of how perfect you two are for each other, not just spouses and parents but best friends working in harmony on making your dreams come true!! Love you guys to pieces, I find myself so happy and excited for you! I’m such a corny chick I know! But like someone said to me in a comment compared to all the hooey and superficial nonsense on here and online, which I avoid like the plague - your channel is a breath of fresh air!! My daughters who are 13 & 16 are enjoying watching your videos with me!
You have done so much in such a short time. It’s amazing that the two of you have done it all by yourselves. I look forward to your next video. I’m very excited to see how everything looks when you are done. What are you going to do when there is nothing left to do. ! Lol. Love you guys !!
Not only are ya'll doing the Work , you are filming it! Great editing as well. I can imagine the sigh of relief when you got those lovely windows in and house prepared for winter. awesome job!
I like the uniformity of all the windows on your front façade being the same size and type. You've done an amazing amount of work on your house and property in just a few months.
Once again a Doug and Ashley job completed, you too never let anything get you down your amazing, Maverick is also watching his parents doing it themselves. He will I think follow in your footsteps...
Don't worry what others think... It's Your home, and if you happy with it.. more power to you & your wrapped/ winterized home. May you enjoy every SUPER WARM day inside this winter. 👍❣️🤗
Love the windows! Stoked to see what your door will be. ABSOLUTELY the kind of door people get when replacing an old one tells you everything you need to know about them! 🤩 Expect traffic to drive by more slowly...lol.
If you cut the house wrap in an X in the window areas and the doorway you can fold the excess inward and tack. This keeps out weather and bugs. Thanks for sharing!! :)
Just a little tip, you could of cut the house wrap about 2.5” larger on the bottom & 2 sides of the window, then cut on a diagonal in the corners and folded it in to cover the studs for moisture. Normally we would Visqueen the 3 sides for moisture then install window, starting with flashing tape on bottom then 2 sides & finish with the top. Overall great job for first timers. Love how you used roxul aka rockwool for insulation, I use it all the time. Another tip, the spray foam cans only really work upside down 😂.
So excited for your amazing progress. You both warm my heart. Such a sweet and inspiring couple. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey. ❤️👍
Gosh it looks like a brand new house! You guys always do such fine work. It was a great idea to downsize that one window. Keep up the good work! Doug, get a carpenter's belt buddy! ;)
Ya'll may not be professionals, but what ya'll do know, ya'll do very clean and with pride. I would trust both of you to assist build my home if the chance ever came. In my opinion, fantastic job!
I suggest that you add a long beautiful porch in the front. I think its would look beautiful and make the house looks more like a home. Hope my suggestion is worth something. Have a blessed day. God bless you and your family. 🙏🙌👍👌💞☺
Congratulations on getting it done before the rain. I love watching how you two work so well together. Maverick was so cute in his little boots. He really watches everything you guys do. Hope the door gets there soon.
Mistakes happen. Even the best of contractors make mistakes. After all, we are just humans. You will have so much light coming in now. I am so excited for each and every vlog that you are putting up. It's like we are slowly opening a package or present.
I am so happy for you, you’re waterproof for now. As soon as I saw your your video come up I clicked, that’s because I am always wanting more videos because you guys blow me away by taking on so much TOGETHER.
Doug, Ashley. I know this is a bit off subject but I read an article that said the northern lights should be visible in Michigan this weekend. Something Bell might like to see.
I’m so glad y’all are addressing all of this before winter! You’ve made such huge changes on your home since last winter and I hope it allows you to have a more happy and comfortable season! Your home will be much for efficient and that brings peace of mind to your viewers who watch all of this progress from afar and want y’all to be comfortable in your new home.
I've seen remodels done by people in the construction business, and a lot of it is very shotty work. All they care is to get done, get paid and get gone. Doug and Ashley's work is nest and precise and turns out great!
I’m a draftsman/residential home designer. I work non stop and never have any time to myself until usually right before bed. On nights you post new content, i feel like a kid on Christmas. You guys do such an amazing job. You’re truly inspirational. Keep up the good work.
The windows look beautiful....you're going to have a solid, well-built home at the end of this! Once that front door goes in, it'll really start looking like home :) Great catch on the taping Ashley! ;)
I was so happy that you popped up this morning with the windows ! It looks great and you and Ashley did a great job ! Do I need to send you a nail apron? Lol 😂
Y’all have such great attitude even when facing “almost disasters”...great sense of ,humor .... l like the series. So glad you got the wrap and windows in before Fall weather sets in up there. Keep ‘em coming!
Let them be light. The windows look really great. The savings you will have once all the updates have been made are going to be great. So happy for your family that you found this home. Hope the kids are doing well.
@@Bit2024 It could be that is what the house wrap instructions said to do? Wnhat I was taught was to make a big x in the center and wrap the excess into the opening, then double tape the corners or use a stretchable corner tape. It could be that they are expecting to rewrap the house since it will be exposed for the winter?
Once again, great job! You guys really work better than most "professionals" - you are so comitted to doing things right that even where most people would ignore a mistake, you go back and redo it to make sure you have done the best job you can. Admirable. I hope you stay in this house and raise your children in a place you basically built - it will mean so much to them knowing what their parents did to create such a warm and safe place for their family. Also, I would strongly urge you to go to another channel to see another couple comitted to creating everything for their family. The RUclipsr is Anna White and she and her husband are amazing. They built their home and all the furnishings. She gives you free designs and instructions online. You can learn a lot from them and I am sure she would love to see what you are doing.
NOt sure if anyone has mentioned, but if you cut an "X" through your openings, rather than cutting them out, you can wrap the WRAP around the window/door openings and staple in jambs or inside home. It seals up those raw wood edges too! Just my $0.02.
They have mentioned it a lot to us, but we did it how the window manufacture wants it done. New and improved ways of doing it is the way we did it, or variations of it in some form or fashion.
Doug that is the most thorough weathering of a window done textbook spec there is nothing that I can think of that you could have possibly done better -great job! TD New construction flange and window tape is the way to go. Replacement windows are designed to leak IMO
Great work as usual! This is off topic, but I am interested in what types of meals you guys prepare when when you are both putting in full days working. Maybe a day in the life video for the future?
So exciting seeing your windows installed. Looking forward to the front door installation. Maverick is so adorable as he is soaking in all that Daddy and Mommy are doing. Good work y’all. 🦚🔨💡
I think they look great, and the best part is that they will keep the cold out. I find it sad that you have to explain yourself. Jeff does too, but I guess it comes with the job. lol I think you do everything great. Much better than I would do lol
So glad you got your windows installed a your house wrapped! I love the way you put the tape around each window... great job it should pay off in the future! Wonderful job! Look forward to continuing to watch! Nancy from Canada
I just love all the improvements you’ve made to this day! I really like those windows they looked simple, easy and large enough to look outside with. You really did make a great choice by using them. Can’t wait to see what you’ll do inside now for your sons room and the living area. I’m just so impressed with the fact your doing all this by yourselves. Even if mistakes are made, we learn so much from that. If I were younger and was watching these videos I want to do those improvements too by myself . However, I’m young enough to attempt the smaller projects. Thanks for being such a wonderful and beautiful inspiration. I’m just so happy for you all. 👍🏻
I subscribe to many channels but when I get a notification you've made another one, I click it first! I don't even have a house to renovate. =) You're my favorite young couple to watch, and it's encouraging to see young generations have ethics and interest in improving their own lives, instead of wanting it handed to you. Your kids are lucky to have great role models. It was fun watching you cut the window plastic from the inside out.
Wow look how you guys get it done. I wished you had more funds to do the whole out sides and rest of windows before winter flies . It would be so nice for you, a warmer winter. Well i wish you well and happy. You guys rock.
I wasnt saying do it i was wishing for you, please dont take me wrong. I hope the back isnt as bad you need a break. Take care dear folk you folk arnt different you are special in a good way.
Another good job. I found that when pressing down that tape. If you take the backing and wrap it around your four fingers. Then rub and press the tape using the slick backing paper on your hand. And doing so quickly, it warms the adhesive giving a better bond.
Looks nice with all windows the same size. Sure hope you can work it out to get that siding on before winter sets in to protect that house wrap and window seals.
The house and how you do your windows etc. is your business.. it’s not like you haven’t had experience remodeling.. you know what works for you.. I think you’re doing a fantastic job! Hopefully the door gets there soon so you can start back on your next project..
love what you do in designing your house, I think it was a good Idea to work on the outside with the weather you had when you moved in. Now it will be warmer for the family. Love you guys
If you are not going to side this year. You might want to use button nails or something a little stronger than staples. Any strong winds will rip your house wrap off. House is looking good.
Great job! Windows look fab. Just a hint for when you drop your nails again.... have old speaker magnets 🧲 in the bottom of nail buckets or available to pick up nails. Works great for me.
This is so exciting! Really happy for you! There's lots of folks out here who have been hoping the windows (and, soon the door) got installed before the colder & wetter weather starts! We can all breath a sigh of relief! You've chosen a VERY reputable brand of window. Congrats, Simmons family!👊👍😊😍
LMBO HHHAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAA 😂 My 89 year old grandfather wouldn't agree. That's who taught me . And also how not to staple myself to the roof. In baggy pants and hang there yelling for help LMBO HHHAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAA 😂😂😂😂
Doing a great job...so nice to see a happy couple working together to make there ..home..great view..snd looks like the property is nice too..great for the kids for all there many adventures.

Agree 100% love this fsmily6 There such an inspiration to all of us
I’ll never get sick of saying this “Great team, job well done.”

I love watching you two! I look everyday for updates. You work so well together and are really a joy to watch.

The Ozark Duke I agree with you completely. Doug and Ashley are real people not snobs or jerks like some of the couples. I’ve unsubscribed due to one who I had followed from the beginning of their build. Never was real impressed with the husband to begin with but he turned into a know it all jerk. Amen Girl!!! i Love how he says this is how i do it, not this is the way to do it.
I'm a proud DiYfferent groupie.

I don't call having to redo one window a big mistake. you did great.
Wish you videos were longer love them
I was saying stop, stop you forgot the bottom sealant, but you couldn't hear me. LOL. Trust me it happens all the time with me. Great job guys!
The bottom was left unsealed so that water can escape IF it does get in.
For everyone that thinks they did the windows wrong they followed manufacturers instructions. I know most men dont follow instructions but my hubby does. Obviously Doug does too. Great job I am
so excited for you both. P.s. for all the critics their debt free and living life simply. I would rather live in something DIYFFERNTLY is building than the bigger construction company's.
Your home, your needs, your doing the work. your happy with it, and That's That. Good to See the progress you Kids are having on the place.

That's how my husband does wrap on windows and he was a glazier before he retired and that's the way the pros did it, not sure about now.

When I saw the title I was afraid you broke a window! Mistakes only count for if you realize them after it’s too late. You guys are doing great!
Good thing we didn't break a window! That would have been annoying, haha. Thanks!

You're doing a wonderful job! Kudos for keeping your sense of humor! It takes you a long way in Life!!

platform. Enjoy your journey!
it's unbelievable the difference you two have made in this place !!! I am in awe...i've been following from the beginning...just amazing.

Should have wrapped housewrap around inside opening!! Still a great job!! Looking great!
I said people would tell us we did it wrong ;) We just followed the manufacturer's instructions. Thanks!
Woohoo for the windows lol your home is going to looks beautiful when finished, love and blessing to you all from Scotland :) :)

Looking real good guys! Nice job on everything!
Doug, I'm confused. Why didn't you wrap the Tyvek into the window openings?
The was big mistake
@@Bit2024 It could be that is what the house wrap instructions said to do? Wnhat I was taught was to make a big x in the center and wrap the excess into the opening, then double tape the corners or use a stretchable corner tape. It could be that they are expecting to rewrap the house since it will be exposed for the winter?
I did see he taped the bottom corners. I just wondered why he didn't do an x and fold the wrap inside. But, whatever, everybody does it differently.
We just chose to follow the window manufacturer's instructions for cutting the wrap. Personally we feel it's a better method.
Dont forget to tape the staples! Many holes :P Keep up the good work :)

Im' sure that you have made all motorists happer knowing that you have windows and a door on that wall again. LOL Y'all are rocking it.
Doug that is the most thorough weathering of a window done textbook spec there is nothing that I can think of that you could have possibly done better -great job! TD New construction flange and window tape is the way to go. Replacement windows are designed to leak IMO
Look's great !!! I love watching the progress of your renovation.
Great work as usual! This is off topic, but I am interested in what types of meals you guys prepare when when you are both putting in full days working. Maybe a day in the life video for the future?
Great job , no mistakes you fixed it before it was to late ... no worries !!!
You guys are doing an awesome job! I’m praying that the wrap holds through the Michigan winter. 💜💜🙏🏻
Thanks. Maybe things will work out and we can get some siding up sooner. You never know :)
Man! I love you guys! I love your videos. You are doing great.
TYVM 💕 LOVE Watching both of you doing renovation.
The back of the house will have rot like the front so It's a big job to get into right now. We'll see what we can do though. Thanks!
Gidday, I am thrilled for your family on this big awaited day. Fantastic.
If you are not going to side this year. You might want to use button nails or something a little stronger than staples. Any strong winds will rip your house wrap off. House is looking good.
Yeah, we may reinforce it if need be. We're still trying to see how things will work out. Thanks!
You two are awesome. Hugs and love from Pennsylvania
Looking Good! Great Job. I'm so glad you all are moving along so well.
Great job! Glad you are almost set for winter. Windows look great
Great job! Windows look fab. Just a hint for when you drop your nails again.... have old speaker magnets 🧲 in the bottom of nail buckets or available to pick up nails. Works great for me.
As usual, for a novice, you did a very professional job. Even pro's make mistakes.
Love seeing it coming together!
After wrap when cutting out windows do an X and pull it in then staple. Keeps moisture out of your windows
14:40. We did it how the window manufacturer said to do it. Our way is better, imo.
LMBO HHHAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAA 😂
My 89 year old grandfather wouldn't agree. That's who taught me .
And also how not to staple myself to the roof. In baggy pants and hang there yelling for help LMBO HHHAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAA 😂😂😂😂
I'm learning just watching you do it
