    The kitchen framing looks SO dang good! It is a wonder to me after seeing the damage inside the walls that you did not have walls collapsing in on you last winter. I know it must have been super cold last winter. I am sorry for that. But, now I envision a cozy fall and the first snow of winter with you all running around bare foot in your warm home. It makes me very happy and hopeful. Hurry along to wrapping the home up. Blessings. 🍁

    Loving your episodes and so admire you both. You work well together. I love your adventures in building and repair and I miss that as my husband and I used to do a lot of things like that. We did our 2000 sq ft home as you are doing after 30 years, not that it was any rot as such but it just had to be updated so we figured we wanted to repair it all the way it will last us the rest of our time. LOL It is a JOB to be sure. We replaced 16 windows from the aluminum to the new white clad windows we purchased at HD. So quiet and keep the home so so warm and just so much more comfortable. No air leaks and they are so easy to maintain. we went to all new siding and wrap and insulation where it needed. Just as you are doing so I am enjoying watching you redo you home and bring it up to date and safe. I can't give you enough kudos!!! You will be in and warm by the time winter gets here and what a fabulous feeling that will be.
    Blessings

    I have to say I agree with someone who said earlier that you should consider a P.O. Box maybe in a nearby town so as to provide some privacy to you and your family. This would allow your subscribers to gift you items and or monetary support for your channel. As I have said in the past I have coins and coin related items that are yours for the asking. You would have them already if I knew where to send them. By the way, the easy meatball recipe was a big hit, Thanks Ashley. Later

    Hey Doug, I guess a 32 inch is ok but I would put 36 inch door in. On an outside door coming in to a kitchen, you really appreciate a little room bringing in appliances and such. I know it's your house, but it would help you more in the long run. Not criticizing, just trying to help. I have made my mistakes and paid for them. Sometimes a little better planning helps a lot in the future. Best wishes for you and God bless.

    • @BeSmarterToday
      @BeSmarterToday 5 лет назад

      Totally agree with you on this Rick. I am sure we have all had our own errors and can easily spot them. I did see this too. This is really the only major design thing so far I would have done differently. Now it is going to be difficult moving washer/dryer at a later time if they need to be replaced. More space is easier and makes sense given the price difference on a door. Appliances are heavy and bulky, and more space is always smarter. Larger doors are so much wiser. Glad to see someone else saw the same thing I did.

    • @diyfferent

      We put in a 36" for the front door so if large items need to be brought in we can use that door :)

    You should consider gutters also to move that water away from the house. At the same time you can combine the gutters with a water catchment system for your gardens and livestock. Take a problem and create multiple advantageous solutions.

    I know this is too late for some parts that you've already finished, but there is a liquid base for a spray on borax solution that is all natural and can be sprayed onto the insides of framing, before insulation is installed, that soaks into the wood and creates a barrier to insect damage. Its a little tricky to mix up, but there is a good video from Matt Risinger who demonstrates this.

    Jumpins. I know you were probably sure the wires were dead before you snipped them, but I always check with a multimeter or test light first.
    When I was working on a wall on my house a couple of months ago, there was a wire that came out of the wall and went to a shed that had been removed. There wasn't anything on that wire for decades. I wasn't sure of the status of the wire so I treated it like it was live. Good thing I did... it had been hanging outside in all weather and conditions, with current going to it! 🤨

      or a 4'0" door that also makes it wheelchair accessible. Many don't think about that but accidents happen and sometimes it isn't temporary leaving you in a pickle. Only in my old age with back issues have I started thinking about how bad it would be if I could no longer walk because of my pain. I couldn't go through any door, not even the bathroom door if I needed a walker or wheelchair. Even young people need to think about it when you have an opportunity like this.

It sounds like the rot was causing a lot of trouble with regard to some leaking, and some smells. You've gotten rid of all signs of mice and carpenter ants. All of what you're getting done now, will bring you peace of mind through the winter as you finish what is left inside.

    Excellent work! I keep thinking that you would love to have a dead blow or small sledge hammer to help knocking the wood apart and when you are "hammer planing" things into place. I love my dead blow hammer since it doesn't mar the finish (plastic head) and adds a nice amount of weight into each swing I take. They are pretty inexpensive too and come in different sizes/weights!

    Excellent outcome and work! Have to ask, are either you or Ashley from Amish background? You two work so hard and long together. Blessings...

    Another great job done! You are paying attention to the details and trying to do it right. Thats the way it should be done. When you are finally able to sit back and enjoy it you will feel a lot better about the job you did. It is going to make the house warmer and so much cozier this winter. So important in the cold Michigan winters. I am so glad to see your little guy wearing his shoes. We wouldn't want to see him step on anything and get hurt. You are doing a great job! You make a great team. My best as always to you and your family! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊😊😊
