  • I fit a Garmin dash camera 55 to my Mondeo Mk5. The cabling is hidden away and connection to the fuse box is easy using a fuse adapter. I used sw ignition fuse 23 in the cabin fuse box.
    The cabin fuse box diagram can be found here fuse-box.info/ford/ford-monde...
    Here’s a list of fuses you can use:
    Yellow wire - ignition switched 12v
    23, 26, 32, 36, 37
    Red wire - battery +12v
    3, 5, 24, 28, 33
    Black wire - chassis metalwork -‘ve battery
    Good luck

    Hello again Nigel. So happy to see you upgraded to a mk5. I'm in the process of doing the same. So looking forward to more videos. Well done

    Good man Nigel great content. I just purchased my new to me mk5 and ill be doing this very job in the next few days. Have you attempted the headlight bulb replacement? That's gonna be interesting lol

      Thanks for watching and the comment. Not done headlights yet but imagine they will need taking out of the car just like the Focus.

      @NigelEaland I installed the dash cam today. The fuse you used 29 was live in my car so I ended up using a 5amp at the other end of that line of fuses. I was only thinking afterwards maybe the car hadn't shut down completely. It works good the way I have it. Immediate shut down of camera once ignition off. Bit of a pain getting the door rubber back into position but all good now!

      Pretty sure it was standard fuse from here amzn.eu/d/1W8MCnQ

    Just got myself 2018 estate zetec edition.
    Great video .
    Only disappointment with the car is no footwell lighting .
    Anywhere under the dash it could be retrofit?

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  7 месяцев назад

      Ah yes. See my mk4 bling video.
      I don’t know the answer without looking. On the mk4 there were footwell bulb holders so it was easy. My guess is it would be easy enough if you pick up the interior light fuse feed in the fuse box under the glovebox.

    Have you explored the possibility of an ignition live in the area where the overhead lights are. Where the sunglasses holder is?

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  10 месяцев назад

      You need somewhere to hide the power supply which converts 12v to the usb 5v. Even if you could access a switched supply there where do you hide the power supply. To my mind the best place is by the fuse box.

      @@NigelEaland Ok it’s just I’ve seen on Powerfulukltd channel they did just that on a Range Rover but they had made a special plug and play lead fir that range of vehicles. I didn’t realise the power was reduced for the dash cam. I’ve a mk5 mondeo but would need someone to fit a dash cam for me I’m 81 but Halfords do fitting fir £50

    Thanks for that Video, very helpful, but did you need a radio code for SYNC after disconnecting the battery? I am having issues with not being able to remove a previous owners phone, but I was reluctant to disconnect the battery because I cant find a code

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  6 дней назад +1

      @@derektalbot4887 funny because I had the same worry and went and spoke to Fords. The radio is hard coded to the car so no problem disconnecting the battery. There’s is no code to input.

      @@NigelEalandlegend, thanks for that, because Ford main dealers couldn’t answer that for me. I have another question if you don’t mind, my cam has an ACC cable, am I right in saying that is in the fuse box under the bonnet? Fuse 23? If so, how would you go about wiring it?

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  6 дней назад +1

      @@derektalbot4887 do you mean it has the cigarette lighter style plug to power the camera? If so get a 12v socket and crimp the fuse adapter to it. I did the same thing when I put a camera into our MX5. The fuse box is in the passenger footwell.

    • @derektalbot4887
      @derektalbot4887 6 дней назад

      No, it has 3 cables, one is yellow and it goes to the ACC fuse, the purpose of it is to allow the camera to be still recording when parked up, the connection to the ACC fuse ensures that it’s not draining the battery, if it does start to put a drain on it, the camera shuts down

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  6 дней назад +1

      @@derektalbot4887 ok I think I understand. Acc yellow is ignition switched supply. Then presumably you have red which is battery +’ve and black which is chassis or battery -‘ve. Everything you need can be got from the passenger footwell fuse box I used.
      The yellow goes to the 7.5A fuse I used. The black bolt to the nearby metalwork. I’ll have to check my car tomorrow to find a fuse with battery +’ve for the red.
      Does that sound right?

  • @jamesredfern999

    Is fuse 23 coming from the same relay as the 12v power outlets? Did you find any other live switched fuses?

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  26 дней назад

      There’s plenty of other switched supplies. The fuse I used was convenient and the right type and size for the adapter I had. That fuse box has three different types of fuses. To find a switched feed or even a battery feed I used a volt meter and probed the top of each fuse.
      F23 is the delayed accessory power. Pretty sure that will be ignition switched.

    • @jamesredfern999
      @jamesredfern999 26 дней назад

      @NigelEaland I think 23 is ignition switched but connected to the 12v outlets already in the car. I can't use these as the wiring is fried somewhere after the relay, so need a different feed.

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  25 дней назад

      @@jamesredfern999 actually I think that fuse gets volts with doors unlocked. I’m afraid I don’t know the answer. Loss of power is most likely a dead relay or blown fuse rather than fried wiring. Good luck.

    I would need the power supply to be functional even after the vehicle is locked, in order to monitor data from the GPS, is it the same fuse? Thank you

      No the fuse I used power comes on with ignition. Use F2 or F3 micro fuses which seem to permanent power.

    As a safety measure the usual method is to remove the negative lead on the battery can i ask is there a reason you disconnected the positive terminal Thanks Ps i have just bought a mk4 mondeo from mk3 mondeo and your videos are brill

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  9 месяцев назад +1

      The best way is to disconnect the negative for sure because if a spanner were to fall between either of the battery terminals and the chassis it doesn’t short circuit the battery. I disconnected the positive because it’s easy to get to compared to the negative which is hidden at the back. This is not unreasonable and as an added precaution consider putting some cardboard or plastic over the positive terminal just to protect it from any accident.

      The earth wire to the battery is not very accessible.
      Also I wrap the wire once round the camera mounting just incase the camera falls off so it doesn't drop to the floor.
      I think the supplier of the fuse adapters is Durite.
