Drummer Sterling Campbell left Cyndi Lauper for Duran Duran, then after the Liberty album he joined David Bowie soon after where he stayed over a decade. Incredible drummer!
I went the Duran Duran Big Thing Tour in 1988 in Portland, Oregon. My boyfriend took me to see Duran Duran. I believe my then boyfriend was Jealous. The only song he knew was Wild Boys. This concert was my dream concert to go too. Thank you Duran Duran!
Thought I heard it all... but this is the first time I hear a live version of WInter Marches On! Wow! Also, Big Thing live is so much better than the studio album.
don't look like a band in decline as the media might have potrayed them. far from it. bolstered partly due to amazing new musicians Campbell and Cuccurullo and some heavily melancholic new tunes
Big Thing & Liberty were not their strongest efforts. They happened to fall back to back at the end of the 80s. That’s why people called them “washed up.” Then 1993 came, and they shut the Critics down!!
Critics gonna critic. In 1988 they were an extremely popular group, but in 84 they had demigod status in Italy so relatively speaking, they had declined. I wish all groups their level of "decline" :D
How I adore the BIG THING concert. And i have the full concert on the Big Thing official CD/DVD re-issue. Duran got their edge back after the not so edgy Notorious album. I feel on Big Thing there was a bit of the old Duran with the edge, inventiveness and cool structure but also a new leg wirth some great deep atmospheric slower moments. And I love the backing singers with Duran, it just all workd. And I love their Big Thing look in particular John and Nick who look sublime. Also love all the designs that match the band and the backing vocalists xxxxx
Hope they come back to NYC after the funk is over. One of my childhood favorites in the 80's, but never got to see them. Hope I get to see them as an old dude. Excellent work over all the years.

Wow, I watched the entire concert at midnight. Thanks for the video! Saw them twice on this tour. One of the shows in New Orleans...fun memories! Love the Big Thing album!
I went to this tour at the Edinburgh Playhouse on the 11th April I think it was in 1989. Just got back from the Soviet Union with my old school and had this to look forward to. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. 🏴🏴🏴🙏🙏🙏
I noticed that when the camera is not totally on John's face he doesn't smile but as soon as he sees the camera straight on him he gets this big grin. He definitely knows where that camera is! Lol!!!
I've seen DD several times, from 1983 to 2014. Yes, this was during their 'fallow' period, but these are the most musically muscular and interesting arrangements I've ever seen from them (I did not witness this tour live). This is a cracking show. These live versions of Big Thing material are way stronger than their studio counterparts. Live, DD tend to be a bit juke box these days, too often playing the same hits in the original arrangements every time - they'd do well to re-learn from this.
So true. I saw them on this tour in Belgium, and indeed the Big Thing material, especially Drug(just a state of mind) worked really well. One could say they were in an experimental phase, trying to mix things up. Mind you that these days they try to convince their audience by playing their classics as tight as possible, but then a carreer spanning over 40 years does that to artists. Their stint at Vegas on Halloween last year was breathtakingly original though (check it out, it's here on you tube). On occasion they still rock it with some sheer surprises. On a note, there's to be mentioned that an Italian or Latin American show always works for them anyway...☺😉
I really enjoyed this too. I just saw them in Tampa this past June (2023 for those who reading this years from now lol!) they're still rearranging their tunes to keep them fresh, and Simons vocals are really solid
I guess its fun to be there and one would expect to just hear the classics the way the were originally intended but it makes for a very unoriginal boring watch if you weren't there. i watched the Hollywood roof top concert in cinema. It was pretty meh. I would much rather have watched a rescreening of Arena when they were still young singing those songs

It seems like this is a music of my childhood. I'm 33 now, but I feel like I have been there at this gig! Why does it feel so??? Someone please explain me!)))
This was my first proper concert - well, at least this tours stop in St Paul, MN. I was just a kid - my parent had to take me, but I was in complete awe.
It was my first D2 concert as well. I was in college at the time, and travelled all the way from Joplin, MO to attend with my HS best friend to see the show in the Twin Cities. If it was the Orpheum, we were at the same show.
Saw this tour at Edinburgh Playhouse April 1989. Place was only half full. Not a great time for the band commercially but they played an absolute blinder with a superb setlist.
Wow I’m so surprised they played gmex in mcr which was a bigger capacity than the Apollo. The arena didn’t exist then. They had also done secret gigs at small venues under name of Krush brothers (I think) they played the international which was a small club one of the best gigs ever & it was £5 a ticket
In the Skin Trade song, I'd rather see sexy John than the girls undressing! John undressing himself would have been more amazing!. But, that's just me!
Anyone know what ticket sales were like during this tour? Still playing the arenas but wonder what the vs. Capacity was, generally. Also this sounds amazing.
Io c ero!
Yes, I think so, @ 1:26:55 Simon repeated "vigilantes out on dawn patrol" instead of "below the towers of the citadel". Honestly, Simon looked a little lost during the performance of The Edge of America and his voice broke few times, but who cares, even after 32 years this concert looks amazing. My greatest regret I was too young then to attend the show myself, but stills now I clearly remember the commotion that tour created in Italy. I only managed to watch a live performance of Duran Duran in 2005 in Arena Verona for Astronauts Tour, and that was great too
I've been in love with John Taylor since I was 12. I even was gonna meet him and marry him some day. I had it bad for him. And even though I'm not 12 anymore every time I see him smile now I go back to when I fell for him. God he's still gorgeous here and also in 2021 with me at age 50...
A real Gem late 80s i can feel acid house with funky rhythm…..they are better than Arena concert in 84….this is a real underrated duran concert… master piece

Geeeeee...... look at every sensational move of Simon on that stage....... He simply doesn't move nowadays. =="
They were at their peak, time don´t forgive, all of us are 35 years older now.
Simon is in his 60's, let me tell ya' .... we don't move that much! lol
I attended the April, 3, 1989 Big Live Thing Tour concert at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, LA...fantastic show.
John at 1:18:49 "What the fuck is that?" 🤣
🤣
I saw this concert in NY and Simon really seems exhausted. They seemed to sing perfectly when I saw them. Here they seem struggling.
Palomino❤️❤️❤️
In the Skin Trade song, I'd rather see sexy John than the girls undressing! John undressing himself would have been more amazing!. But, that's just me!
so real
live fantastico...
Nick❤️😍
Palomino is still there on the throne running the kingdom of our emotions!❤️
Anyone know what ticket sales were like during this tour? Still playing the arenas but wonder what the vs. Capacity was, generally. Also this sounds amazing.
wish concerts were still like this for $35.00 !!
They were huge in Italy at this point in their career, possibly bigger than they ever were as the original 5 piece
Io c ero!
❤ Amo a Duran Duran ❤️
I remember this concert and thinking, wow this is the first time Simon has had longer hair than John or Nick. lol
I read somewhere he had it permed for this show
He had his hair like this for the tour.
Did Simon just sing the same line twice in Edge of America, or did I just mishear??😱❤
I only managed to watch a live performance of Duran Duran in 2005 in Arena Verona for Astronauts Tour, and that was great too
John is master bassist. He's really a special talent!
I was at the first show of this tour at the Fillmore in San Francisco CA. Met Simon earlier that afternoon at the Macy's department store.
I've been in love with John Taylor since I was 12. I even was gonna meet him and marry him some day. I had it bad for him. And even though I'm not 12 anymore every time I see him smile now I go back to when I fell for him. God he's still gorgeous here and also in 2021 with me at age 50...
Me too, Im almost 50 still in love JT
@@dgab1387 What's not to love? Lol
Great show guys!
A real Gem late 80s i can feel acid house with funky rhythm…..they are better than Arena concert in 84….this is a real underrated duran concert… master piece
It is slightly out of sync, but that’s ok. Great concert to an exquisite album.
Caught this tour at the newly opened London Dockland Arena in April 1989. BIg THing is a cracking album.
I went to that gig too. We were packed in like sardines on the DLR train I was on after the gig. Love the album, Do You Believe in Shame is a very meaningful and special song for me.❤
Me too! It was a fantastic show
🤘Eu adorei esse 🎥📽️vídeo, com esses dançarinos dançando, ficou incrivelmente lindo, fantástico, show, show👍 !
Saw them twice on this tour.
. 💋 NICE 🔥
John Taylor's bass is the best of the best!
Female Backing singers too loud over Simon
Bellissimo, io ero a quello di Roma!!
