    I wanted to try and demonstrate the difference between a monotype and the usual monoprint that I have shown in many of my previous demo videos. For this, I use a slightly thicker type of plastic always trying to make use of recycled materials when possible.
    The idea is to create a unique print by manipulating the paint (or ink) and then transferring this to the print surface.

    The application of the black ivory oil paint (on the print plate) is art in itself.

    This is so interesting ! Another demonstration that I have to try. I love how much depth you create in the print.....I can see tree stumps and vegetation !!!
    I also appreciate the absence of talking and music because it is like sitting in a studio with someone.

      I sometimes try to make the music compliment the video but I know a lot of viewers prefer no music at all. Thanks for the feedback.

    Love this Dan almost looks like an etching print so much depth, you've really helped me get back into my stride with my work again I've nearly finished a painting and my mind is on my next load of monoprints or monotype type prints not sure going to prep a few sheets of plastic bags with different oil colours and do a portrait type piece and transfer it from sheet to sheet picking up the colours might turn out a mess or there again might not lol you really are a huge help!!

    • @DanTirels

      That sounds good to me. I plan to work on some larger scale monoprints soon and will try to demo some less abstract pieces. I always think landscapes work well with the monoprinting techniques. I had planned some outdoor sketching demos but unfortunately they are on hold at the moment due to the current crisis and UK lockdown.

      You might have to add some mineral spirits to get your oil pastels “wet” enough to print, which gives me a good idea as well!

    Dan, this looks great! Quick question: How do you store all the prints? Plastic sleeves?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 года назад +3

      Good question! Always leave to dry about a week for the oil paint. I just store them in folders, If they have been done on heavyweight paper (200gsm) they should be fine. You can put a sheet of plain copy paper between each one. If you want to be able to look through them, a binder with plastic sleeves is a good idea.

    This is definitely a monotype, because a monoprint would have an image etched or scratched into a plate. One may get a ghost impression monotype from printing the original plate again or you can fiddle some more and get a different image. The monoprint will always have the original image, but can be painted, smeared in different ways to produce a new image again and again. In conclusion, every image begotten is called a print!

      @@DanTirels Weight of the paper you paint on? Please

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 года назад

      Sorry forgot... I'm using a heavyweight smooth card here as I find this works best. This is 220gsm, you can use a cartridge paper but try not to use anything below 150gsm or you will need to apply a primer. A quick spray of white acrylic usually works fine for this. Hope this helps.

    You could add colour in the bank areas using the same plate?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 года назад +1

      Yes this would work with other colours and different combinations, be careful not to use too much paint as this would destroy the print. I will try to film this as a new demo. Thanks for watching.

    What are the pros and cons of using oils vs acrylics.?

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  2 года назад +1

      The main difference when working with acrylic is the very fast drying time, you don't have long to manipulate the paint. You can try using a retarder which will slow this down.

    Some of my prints is bleeding thru the papaer what can i do to prevent that.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 года назад +2

      You need to use a heavyweight paper (200gsm) You can use primed paper made for oil paints or a good tip is to spray with a white acrylic paint to use as a primer.
