Self Tune your SUBARU | Step 1 | DATALOGGING
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2024
- Want to learn to map or tune your own Subaru Impreza, Forester or Legacy? The essential first step before doing any tuning is learning how and why to datalog the information from the ecu. I take you through the why, how and what to data log field by field.
This is part 1.. Part 2 will be soon and in a live session go through datalogs live to reveal the lessons learnt.

this series is gonna be so good. its re energised me with regards to the uk community.
loving your channel mate
Thanks a lot Ben. I hope you find it useful 😎
I needed this! Cannot wait to get stuck into this series
You make this look easy I will leave this to you on my car thank you Duncan keep the videos coming .
Thanks Paul 👍😎
Thank you for this video, subscribed
Next step coming very soon. Thank you 🙏
I’m looking forward to this series, I just acquired a 2004 forester XT that has some mods done from the previous owner and I want to make sure it’s running correctly
Cool. Step 2 should be in a couple of weeks.. I will announce the date next week 👍
Awesome video! Exactly what i was looking for. Subscribed.
Thanks... lots more self tuning videos in here and lots more to come 👍
Thanks again
Thx from Poland, here where i live no one chip 2000s subaru so i hope you teach me how to tune some stuff
Great video and also thank you as well can’t wait to watch the next upcoming videos. I’m planning on buying a tactrix myself to learn how to tune my own wrx and learn how everything works etc
My pleasure. I'm really looking forward to making the videos along with the other subaru content planned 😎
thank you sir, very informative.
Thanks.. The next video in this series will add to it. 👍
fascinating Duncan, have done some data logging. Looking like a great series of tuning vlogs.👍
Thanks Paul.. Hopefully it will be interesting as well as useful 👍
@@racedynamix yes Duncan, as I am learning all the time. I hopefully can relate some knowledge back to my club members. Data logging can help highlight some odd problems.👍
Definitely. It has so many uses beyond mapping 👍
What club btw Paul?
@@racedynamix cymraeg Scoobies Duncan. We met at whifbits mapping that racy red blob lol.
By the way it's on point now very happy with mapping. Tested out on a few club runs around the black mountains.👍💨💥
Thanks again for your help I was able to rescale my maf and go beyond 300g/s and the car is driveable however some more time tunning is needed as I have to make adjustments as I'm at 5 psi but have an afr of 14.5
Yeah it needs to be richer than that.. 👍
Love teh channel Duncan !!
Thanks Peter 😁😁
Cool video, what software are you using for Datalog
I think you should make a video on how Ecuedit works and the initial setup
👍
Very Informative
Glad it was helpful!🙏
Hello thanks for this information.. which software are u using please?
Hi. I put a link to it in the description 👍👍
great video! does it works with GC8? i'm looking for something that works with my gc8 my99
unfortunately not.. Ecutek software is the only way into the std ecu and that isn't retail software only trade.
Link G4 is the way forward for you 👍
what parameters should i change for a catless downpipe?
Hi. Thanks for the question...
Firstly it will boost easier so all of the boost control tables will need to be altered to keep that under control
Secondly fueling will alter as the air will exit the engine easier and possibly make it leaner.
Thirdly the ignition timing will also be affected.
There will abviously also be codes to switch off too.
Quite a lot of changes.
HTH
Duncan
Thanks for your work, on your Forester STi (I am asking as I have a 2006 JDM SG5 Cross Sport) did you have to use one of the additional plug adapters the Tactrix has come with it for the different year WRX's?
On the forester sti it is a 32 bit ecu so just needs test mode connectors.
The cross sport is a weird one.. Particularly the auto as it has a real hybrid set up and can only be done via Ecutek software.. There isn't a std communication protocol for it in ecu flash or ecuedit.
The manual version can be done normally although they are very rare cars.
@@racedynamix Thank you very much, that explains why I have had so many problems getting it working.
Ah auto then. Where are you based?
@@racedynamixBrisbane, Australia :)
@@BRUMMS oh. There will be a way to get into it but it may require someone that can write a new xml interface protocol for it.. You could try on romraider forums to see whether someone already has or would be willing to create one for you.
I re watched the beginning I must of missed it. Now with the Ecu Edit can you upload rom files and flash them on the ecu like in ecuflash?
Yes.. And data log. 3d graphing is much better in ecuedit 👍
@racedynamix Thanks for the videos mate and the reply back you for sure are a scholar, 🍻 cheers 😊
@@FilthyHeathenKustoms my pleasure sir 😎
will any wideband work or does ecuedit only support aem uego
they are a few different types of wideband that it will support. Best to check the software for the list tbh 👍
Do you know if the tactrix works with a 99' WRX impreza? Trying to fault find a high CO reading on the emissions test. Keen to check the engine heath at intervals too. Its a standard car re engine and ecu
Yeah it should work.. Logging doesn't have the sane level of detail available from the v5/6 ecu though 👍
@@racedynamix Ok will give it a go, thanks for the content and reply. Going to make my way through few of the other vids, on a slow path towards some new under bonet parts and then a dyno session at some point
Are you able to help tune my v8 jdm sti
Yes indeed. Sign up for the Academy ..there is an option for remote tune in there 👍
novice self tune of Dyno tune buy a shop... will you get a better result by a dyno tune if engorging the expense difference or can you get similar results
Ooo.. Difficult one.
Because you live with the car 100% of the time you can potentially get a more complete result... But.. Experience and knowing what to do and how to do it right would win imo. But combine the two and your results would be exceptional.
Where are you based?
@@racedynamix I am from Norway Has a shop not too far away but has received mixed reviews from the local Subaru Group
❤
👍
How fk'd am I? Leaned out while out on a drive testing a new tune. First time I was high rpm started hearing some noise 6-7k rpm (no CE LIGHT yet) backed off. (car is loud so wasnt sure what sound was.) Pushed it again CE light on getting FBKC same rpm zone. Stopped fixed the lean spot in the VE and now I dont get FBKC anymore BUT I do get FLKC in Around the same zone sometimes lower and more often than I did before the 2 FBKC events. But no noticeable/audible knock and it seems to run the same as before. Is it toast? For reference it's a fully built bottom end with generous clearances(which likely saved the bearings my guess.) Cant find anyone with similar experience as me as most engines go boom from a tiny bit of knock it seems and dont run well or similar after lol IAM stays at 16 all the time since newer reflashs was at 15 after that drive.
Hi. did you datalog what happened ?
Are you using det cans ?
If it still drives fine and feels fine it could be that it learnt the knock correction but hasn't been reset so doesn't know the coast is clear now.
@@racedynamix hello, thanks for the reply. I was datalogging via the tactrix sd card for fueling at the time it's got a lower data upload so no fbkc or flkc not much useful info aside from it showing me go lean. Wasnt crazy lean around 12:1 vs the 11.2 target but it was ay WOT at approximately 130-140 kpa. My understanding is the ecu forgets learned corrections after a reflash but I could be wrong? 16bit ecu is pretty basic from my understanding. But yeah pretty consistent flkc at wot in the sameish range. And not at the time im in the process of making some electronic knock listening devices now.
@strifefaction The analog det cans that I show how to make work 10 x better in my experience. It's much easier to hear properly particularly on a forged engine.
@@racedynamix was planning on making both eventually. One digital set up with dual bmw knock sensors wired to an amp to some headphones with each sensor signal going to individual ears to get stereo sound and then some of your analog ones as well for comaparison.
Thanks for your help Im very interested in learning how to tune.
Happy to help!
@@racedynamix So ive downloaded the ecuedit app and ive started setting it up.
Need a key for ecuedit where do i get to buy the good full version?
@@nickyear-w7749there is a link in the description 👍
Any chance of a link to download ECU edit ?? All the google software links look dodgy
Sure. If you head to www epifansoft com
Obviously needs some . In there 👍
Do you think installing sprint booster on my 2023 wrx will destroy my throttle body?
I haven't tried that item but anything that is interrupting signals like this to pretend it is going to speed up communications really can't be. It will be translating actual pedal position to a fictional value to fool the ecu into requesting more throttle opening. The safety control on that relationship is super important to road safety.. It wouldn t be something that I would want to do or recommend. Just get the ecu properly Tuned 👍
@@racedynamix Thanks 🙏
Hi mate wondering if you could help me am new to Subaru but love my wrx turbo 05 .Small problem is when I come of the throttle after going hard . its like my car lurches forward for a split second . I was thinking throttle body sticking maybe.any help appreciated thanks
Hi. That's a common issue on those. Sticking throttle plate or cable can cause that affect but not the onky cause.
Try setting up the data logging and we can go through it in the live session 👍
That’s one thing am not sure with mate data logging .only got a basic scanner for codes. needs a o2 sensor bank 1 but not affecting power at the moment . Thanks for the tips got some pics on my phone of data stream map .maf .load readings things like that
Just bought ecuedit and can't get it set up any help or video that help?
Hi. I did a video for the academy members only last night on some of those issues.. If you join the academy then you get access to the discord group and generally either I or one of the other members can help you get it working. I hope that helps 😎
Where did you download the ecuedit . I downloaded a trial one but it doesn't let me do anything
You need to buy the version from epifansoft 👍
@@racedynamix do you think romrider is any good?
@@speed4you490 I haven't used it for years tbh. Lots do and it works for them. It always worked but the graphing was better in ecuedit 👍
Cheers a lot
I know you got a big reputation coming to tunning it uk .that is why i am only going to ask you. So i got tactricx openport 2.0 i paid a lot of money for it and i got a big problem . I am able to logg and use romrider properly but i am not able to read the rom from the car i did all i had to do connecting the green conectors and yea the fans turn on and off i know i dissconected the car immobiliser . And still i am not able to read the rom from the car i got all definitions up to date from ecuflash but it doesn't help me .maybe you know what is the problem from youre experience I ll be forever grateful if you can help me out . Its wrx jdm hwakeye avcs ej205 from 2005.thank you
Self tune ….. I don’t feel brave enough don’t wanna self detonate never mind the engine lol 🚙 💥
That's fine. Not wanting to persuade anyone that doesn't want to.. Just help those that do or have to 👍
Probably not for the weak 😅
l sell glue, you map cars - I'm gonna stick with tried and tested method if that's ok with you? All very interesting as ever though 😉
🤣
Iv got multiple ignition timing maps what that about ? is it for when knock happens?
It depends on what the tables are. If they are all the same ish then it will be for various things like cruise, non cruise avcs etc
