No Image / Black Screen on Xbox Series X/S | How to Fix
HTML-код

- About a year ago I made a video on how to reset the video resolution on the Xbox One-consoles. As a solution in case the screen just showed a black image or no signal.
As it turns out (judging from the comments in that video) the issue is however just as common on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The solution is also basically the same for those consoles. But I thought they deserved a video of their own.

Thanks for this fix. I accidentally changed the image quality to too high and so the image wouldn’t show up. After this fix, I was back in business. Thank you so much for a quick and concise solution!

@@R1SKITA11 Hi! If both the beeps goes off like they should and no image is displayed even when testing the console with another TV or monitor there might be something else going on, rather than the actual resolution being too high or wrong. If nothing seems to fix it a last resort thing to try would be a factory reset using a USB-stick (instructions here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults ). Doing this does though however delete _everything_ that is currently stored locally on the console. But as a last resort thing to try if nothing else helps it might be worth a shot. // Chris

Hi! That´s awesome to hear! Thank you so much for the comment :-) Also keep enjoying Fallout 4, great game in my opinion :-) // Chris
Hi. I have the same issue as others where it just turns off after the second beep and yes I continued to hold them down for up to a minute after it turned itself off. The only reaction on screen that I get is the TV acknowledging something was turned on that is in the hdmi 3 slot.
I don't if you know the answer to this problem but just letting you know holding it down longer doesn't make it work.
Hi! It is indeed odd that the console turns itself off, even if you keep holding the buttons. The instructions are from Microsofts own guide for troubleshooting a blank screen (found here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/display-sound/tv-or-monitor-screen-is-blank-while-connected ) so technically it should work. Have you tried any other monitors or screens, or HDMI-cables (and also HDMI-inputs on the TV), just to rule them out? I have also had some comments in the video for Xbox One commenting that the issue was actually in that the contrast and/or brightness of the actual HDMI-inputs for some reason had been lowered to basically zero, making the TV not display any image because of that. // Chris
Did you ever figure it out? Im having the same issue

I have a problem where my screen goes black for a couple seconds after I load into a game or back out to the home menu and my resolution changes when I switch back and fourth ( this is for my Xbox series x) do you have a fix for this?
Hi! Hm, could it perhaps have something to do with HDR? At least other users seem to have had similar issues that seem to have been solved when turning off HDR in the console´s settings. Might be worth a try if you haven´t tested it already. // Chris
Hey there, my Xbox 1x used to work perfectly fine on my TV but just recently it is giving me the black screen of death. I have tried the process of turning it off and then pressing the buttons, but I have never gotten the screen where it allows you to reset the console please help! Thanks
The same thing happens to me, I really don't want to send it to Microsoft because it's a pain in the arse, can someone please help us? Thanks!
Hi! Hm, the video resolution should be automatically reset upon pressing the buttons. However if nothing happened (as in that the screen is still black) I’d recommend trying to connect the console to another screen or TV to see if that might pick it up. Also worth trying different HDMI connections on the TV to rule out any settings being off on that end. // Chris
I unplugged my tv and plugged it back in and tada its workin like the birds chirpin

Mine doesn't show a screen at all after pairing and holding the xbox button after the second beep but the weird thing is I can hear the xbox controls in my headphones when I move from one app to another?
Hi! Hm, that would probably indicate that the console is at least starting up like normal. Even though the resolution or picture is off somehow. Have you had the possibility to connect the console to another screen or monitor to see if it´s the same there? // Chris
What if I have to keep doing it again and again after putting it back on the same resolution as the tv? Like it works and then another day it’ll do the black screen again and I have to do the steps again. My tv is 4k 60fps and so is the console but it keeps turning off. It never did this before until now
I´ve had similar issues with my old Xbox One where this issue happened about 3-4 times in about a week. Then completely disappeared after that. However if it keeps happening it might be worth having someone look at the console. And if you have the option, try another TV or monitor for a little while, just to rule out there is something in the combination of the TV settings and Xbox console that might be clashing. // Chris
@@GetThereFaster Gotcha, thanks buddy

Mine is still black, I can hear the audio and I can all the controls I do with the controller but I can’t see anything, even after doing this. It also doesn’t do a second beep and just shuts off if I keep holding it
Hm, if there is no second beep then the video resolution should not have been resetted. What happenes if you connect the console to another screen or monitor? Also be sure to check any TV-settings on the HDMI-input the console is connected to (like contrast and brightness), just to make sure they have not been lowered on their own somehow. // Chris
@@GetThereFasterMike works either another screen but not mine and I know it’s not broken
@@Fexule Hi! If nothing works and another screen doesn´t do it either then something _might_ be off with the console. Hi, my problem is; that during gameplay my series S suddenly goes to a black screen for about 10 seconds which is annoying when playing action games. It does this randomly and I cannot seem to fix this. Any help would be helpful as my monitor runs 1080dpi and is 6 months old. Thanks!
Hi! That seems odd. My first bet would be either overheating or some kind of software issue causing it. You could try to do a factory reset to see if it helps in any way. Instructions can be found here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults This does however deletes everything currently stored on the console, so be sure to backup anything you want to keep first. If that doesn't help, I´d contact the retailer you bought it from and see what they say, if you've got any warranty left of course. // Chris
@@GetThereFaster It also cuts out the sound and I have tried different screen rate etc. Final straw was it failed to load Lego Skywalker just stuck on space. So I turned it off and went on my PS4. @@benjamindyer8249 Super odd! Hopefully the next software update might sort it out? Otherwise and if nothing solves it, I´d try the factory reset since it appeared after a software update to begin with :-) Hope you´re able to solve it (+ PS4 ain´t too bad either :-D ) // Chris
@@GetThereFaster Hi, found the issue. My monitor has two HDMI ports and The Xbox doesn't like the second port. The fussy thing only likes port 1. For some reason, I do not get the second beep when holding down the pairing and power button on my Series S. Any idea why?
Hi! Hm, hard do say. First thing I would try though is to disconnect the console completely from power for about 10 min. Then plug it back in and retry the process again. // Chris
nothing happens for me when i press both buttons at the same time. the power button lights up but I never get the beeps and it doesn't reset the resolution.

Yeah i tried everything and it just doesnt show anything on the screen do i just go to a repair shop?
If you have tried most things (moved it to another TV or monitor as well) and the reset resolution fix does nothing then yeah.. maybe it should be looked at. You could try and initiate a factory reset using a USB-stick (instructions here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults ). Hi! I actually had to repeat this process on my old Xbox One a few times after each other until it eventually went away completely after the third try or so. This might be something similar? Also, try and completely remove the console from power for about 5 min and then redo the procedure to see if that does anything more to help. // Chris
Worked for my Xbox series x thanks !!!
Happy to be able to help! Thanks a ton for the comment! :-) // Chris
I don’t get a second beep and when I press the button to connect my I controller, I am asked for my passcode and then the screen goes black.
Hm. That you don´t get the second beep is odd. Have you tried completely removing the power cable for about 10 seconds then doing the procedure. However that you´re asked for the passcode might indicate something else going on. If you have the option do so, I´d recommend connecting the console to another TV or monitor to see if that one picks up the change in resolution that seem to occur after the passcode question. If so, you can then hopefully change the resolution and move the console back to where it´s supposed to be. // Chris
I did this and it made the screen low quality and like a old TV back in 2004, how do I fix that?

@@GetThereFaster it worked thank you
@@monkedaily Awesome to hear! Thank you too :-) // Chris
Thank u so much!!! I tought it was dead but this fixed it🤩💪🫶
That´s fantastic to hear! Thank you so much for the comment :-) Happy to be able to help! // Chris
But how do you change the resolution?
Hi! You change it by navigating to "Settings > General > TV & display options". And then pick your preferred resolution :-) // Chris
my seriesx will not go into low res mode. ive been standing here for an hour trying. mine doesnt do that. tried it before powering down. after powering down. while powering down. ive tried it all. it simply wont do that. soooooooooooooooo 🤷♂
alright
Sorry to hear it won´t work. If you just let the console boot normally does it seem to start properly (do you hear menu sounds, does controllers work etc.)? Otherwise the underlying issue might be caused by something else rather then the actual video resolution being off. Also, if you haven´t already and have the option too, it might also be a good idea to move the console to another monitor and see if that one picks up the current resolution. And if it does than you might be able to change it from there. Hope you´re able to solve it somehow! // Chris
I have all games and apps running, like the sounds are going on, but the picture doesn't change. For RUclips it's just a black screen, and for some games it's just a loading screen, and I can fully play the game except that I can't see it.
Hm, that's new. So there are some kind of image showing? Basically just not moving ones? If so, it does feel like something might be off with the color profile or something. If you can access the settings menu I'd start digging there under Display etc. If nothing seems to do it you can also try to factory reset the console (instructions here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults ).However this will delete everything on the console that is not backed up to the cloud or to any external media. But as a last resort it might be worth a shot! // Chris
@@GetThereFaster thank you for a quick answer:) I tried resetting console before, and it didn't help:( also there was just like one time that it somehow fixed itself, but on next day it has got broken again
@@user-vd1ko7zx2k Sounds odd. However this issue (completely black screen) did appear all of a sudden for me as well. A few times, however it always went away with the reset, but still managed to re-occur a few times. Wish I had some more tips or tricks, but a complete reset _should_ have done the trick. Suppose you´ve already tried different screens as well? // Chris
@@GetThereFaster i Don't have other screens, I spoke to support we tried numerous methods and even OSU couldn't help, so I send it to service
@@user-vd1ko7zx2k Ah, yeah then it does sound like something might actually be in need of a repair/replace. Let´s hope it goes fast and that they can solve it :-) // Chris
ive tried everything soon as i power my game console on its a blacc screen i was literally just playing about an hour ago
Hi! Have you tried moving it to another TV or monitor to see if that one picks up the image? Also make sure to go through the TV settings for the HDMI-port used to see that nothing seems off there. I´ve had comments from users with issues both with contrast and background brightness all of a sudden being lowered to zero, making the image complete disappear. So that might also be worth double checking! // Chris
Okay thats weird. Ive done this and still get black screen. Also i have tried this on different monitor with different hdmi cable
Hi! That is indeed weird. Then I am actually unsure what to try. Other than leaving the console completely unplugged for a while (30 min) and then plugging it back in and retrying the procedure. If nothing seems to do it you could try and perform a factory reset using a USB-stick (instructions here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults ) However if successfully doing that, everything currently store on the console will be deleted. But maybe as a last resort. // Chris
My Xbox games are picture less and I try playing a game in it doesn’t work
Hi! Really sorry to hear that. Have you tried unplugging the console (as well as the TV) for about 5 min and then pluggin them back in? Also make sure to go through the image settings on the TV to see if anything could be off there. As well as to connect the console to another TV or monitor (if you´ve got the option to) to see if that gives any other result. // Chris
I've done this but everything I go to play a game it still doesn't show game
Hi! So you get an image in the menus etc. but not when launching a game? If that is the case I´d go through the graphic and resolution options and see if it helps to disable HDR and some other options. I´m guessing the game you´re trying to play wants to be shown with some specific image options that might clash with your TV-settings. It´s unfortunately a little bit of trial and error when going through the settings though :-/ // Chris
Bro my tv does not respond and screen is black when i turn on my xbox series s
Answered your first comment :-)
Spent an hour cycling my S and swapped out the HDMI cord but no fix until I unplugged my smart TV for about 30 seconds and that fixed it.
Fantastic to hear! And a ton of thx for sharing your solution. Hopefully it can help someone else as well :-) // Chris
What if your xbox series s turns on with no screen image for about a minute then turns back off
Hi! Hard to say exactly what could be wrong. Assuming the "trick" in the video did not do anything. Have you tried disconnecting the console from power for about 10 min and then plugging it back in? // Chris
@@GetThereFaster I’ve tried both and nothing just still turns on for a few seconds then back off.
@@c.l.ytheii322 Hm, that is odd indeed. However since the console actually turns off that might indicate something else being off, rather than "just" the video resolution/output. Suppose the next step would be to talk to a repair shop and see what they can do. You can also try and initiate a factory reset using a USB-stick (instructions here: support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults ). on my roku tv it keeps saying no signal
Hi! I unfortunately don't have any experience with the Roku TV. Best place to go would probably be the official forum at community.roku.com/t5/Roku-TV/ct-p/Roku-TV . Hopefully someone there has more insight :-) // Chris
My tv will give me sound from the Xbox but not show anything on the screen
Hi! At least that means it´s booting normally. Which is good. Is it the same on another TV or monitor? Also make sure to check the brightness and contrast settings on the TV/screen you´re using to rule out those have been lowered all the way down somehow. // Chris
How to change resolution if I don't have image?
Hi! Only was, that I know, to change the resolution with no image is this exact procedure. However if it does nothing then I would try and check both the brightness and contrast settings for the HDMI-port being used, as well as try the console on another TV or monitor if you haven´t already. To rule out anything being off there. // Chris
Help it’s says on my tv “Not supported mode”
Hi! What it you try and connect the console to another TV or monitor? Also, what happens if you unplug both the console and the TV for about 10 min and then plug them both back in? // Chris
My Xbox series X won’t make the beeps and still doesn’t work
Hi! That´s odd. If you haven´t already, try and unplug the console from power for about 5 min and then plug it back in and redo the procedure. Does that change anything? // Chris
mine never gets the 2nd beep...
Hi! That´s odd. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to get the timing exactly right, so give it a few tries if you haven't already (I have since the video tested on a real console as well :-D). If still nothing, does the console seem to boot like normal if you just let it be and power it on? Can you hear menu sounds? Does the controllers connect like they should? // Chris

i did all of this but my x box screen stayed black
Hi! Sorry to hear that :-/ If it is the same with another TV or monitor and this does nothing I would suspect something might be off with the console. Every time I hold my power button it just turns of
Hi! It can sometimes be a little tricky getting the time right, so try it a few times if you haven’t already. Also try completely removing the power cable to both TV and Xbox for a few min and then plug them back in to see if that does anything for the no-image-issue. // Chris
None of this worked for me but, I jiggled my HDMI cord in the xbox and some how it reset the entire xbox I don't know if you should try this or not but it worked for me :P

Man im about done with xbox as a whole. Got this system brand new less than a year old and have had nothing but problems. Had to hard reset the system twice now because it wouldn't pick up any wifi, now this. Less than 1 yr brand new
Really sorry to hear that :-/ If you´ve got any warranty or similar on it might be worth contacting the reseller and see if they can replace it. The Wi-Fi should definitely not require a factory reset to kick in. // Chris
