Hypocompolementemia (aka low plasma complement level) is seen in many diseases due to underproduction or over-destruction (decreased supply, or increased demand).
    In systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), you might find low plasma levels of C3 and C4 complement proteins.

    What about C4 overconsumption in the lectin pathway, or is overconsumption in that pathway not a thing?

    How about decreased c3 and normal c4, its caused by infection only ? Or may be another caused ?

    Question! What is C3 is 82, C 4 is normal, CH50 is more than 60! dsDNA, ANA is negative

      Also, what are the symptoms?

    In SLE, which complement should be low before another? C3 or C4? Thank you

    13:18 What is meant with positive "Bradjinski"? (Sorry, English isn't my first language)

  • @mamashiraz
    @mamashiraz 4 года назад +1

    What does it mean when someone has normal C3 and C4 but has a high CH50? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Same person has positive “Early Sjogrens Panel” (anti salivary, anti carbonic anhydrase) and positive ANA.

    • @Jiggy77XD
      @Jiggy77XD 4 года назад +1

      They probably have early onset sjogrens syndrome if they have the symptoms.

    • @mamashiraz
      @mamashiraz 4 года назад +1

      Jiggy77XD But what does a high CH50 mean?

    • @Jiggy77XD
      @Jiggy77XD 4 года назад +1

      @@mamashiraz a high ch50 means that there is increased activity of the classical and combined complement pathways compared to normal. This is often found in conditions that cause inflammation, normally in the acute setting but also some chronic inflammatory conditions. The differentials would include infections, acute/chronic inflammatory conditions and malignancies. But given the findings of positive ro/la/rf it is likely sjogrens syndrome.

    • @mamashiraz
      @mamashiraz 4 года назад

      Jiggy77XD Ro and La are negative as well as RF. But has an inflammatory arthritis: psoriatic arthritis.

    • @Jiggy77XD
      @Jiggy77XD 4 года назад

      @@mamashiraz a seronegative spondyloarthritis in the acute setting would also cause that change in complement levels. Over time there would be a decrease in complement levels through overconsumption. I presume the patient has signs and symptoms consistent with psoriatic arthritis (enthesitis, dactylitis, sacroilitis, possibly some extra articular manifestations including possible psoriasis) and has been tested for HLA B27 before coming to that diagnosis. Does the patient have ulcerative colitis? Some patients with UC induced enteric arthropathy often have raised ch50 that is chronic in nature.

    What does it mean if you have slightly low c3 and extremely low c4, signs of kidney issues, ANA positive, low beta 1 globulin?

  • @jordanashley4708
    @jordanashley4708 2 года назад

    Thank you for this! What do you think of me having normal c3, low c4, high ch50, positive ANA, negative DSDNA? I have fatigue, brain fog, sore lymph nodes in neck, low grade temps, muscle aches, joint pain, involuntary muscle jerking. Labs came back but still haven’t heard from the rheumatologist 🥲
