Jesse, there are fast travel points in the center of the market to the second level. You need to complete in order to get a party member. Also be sure to speak to your companions often or you most likely won't be able to romance anyone
Jesse, use the fast travel in Val Royeaux to get to the opper levels. Finish that quest and attend the party, before you go back to Hinterlands. Also, talk to your companions and advisors every now and than (aka the faces on your map).
This, ye gods, Jesse. Please use fast travel. You click on the little compass things on your map of the city to go upstairs, or go to one of the outer blue 'doors' in the square - the button to select fast travel is down at the bottom of the map when you have your destination selected. Do it soon ... Because. Because. Not that I was getting twitchy about this at all. XD
You can find two allies in val rayoux (can't spell that) another mage and an elf archer. So I would suggest heading back and going to the salon and also finding the rest of those handkerchiefs. Hope this helps Jesse :)
detailsubset Who the archer or the amge cause the mage is an up nose snob of a bitch who looks down on everyone. absolutly hate her Love Sera though funny as all get out
detailsubset Agreed. Sera was the first character, be it in DA:O or DA:I, that I dismissed right away. I didn't understand a single sentence she was saying during her "introduction" scene. Granted English isn't my first language, but the way she talked pissed me really off.
Love Jesse's reaction to things :D Eager to see what choices he makes. Also have to love the fact that the bard's singing is in French when in Orlais and English when in Ferelden, it's a nice little touch.
You can fast travel anywhere on the val royeaux map by just clicking the compass icons. Also, you REALLY should take a look at all of the shops there...
Fun little lore tidbit - Fiona is a former Gray Warden, was King Maric's lover and is Alistair's mother :-p And does Nicolas Mage perhaps want to ride the bull? :-p
Actually, no, DAO>DAA codexes and chronology disprove and straight up contradict the shit David Gaider wrote in his headcanon novel (or is the mid 20s Alistar 5 to 12 years older than the early to mid 30s Cailan during the meeting in DAO and has pearly white hair while shooting magic out of his ass while his "half"-sister goldana who has no reason to lie, since she is a generic worthless bitch with no financial support, in on the conspiracy to cover it up and her mother just had pillows under her robes the whole time making her think she was pregnant or something?). And since its a game and based on player choice, in game lore>spinoff media lore no matter who fucking wrote it. She was however a gray warden and a asspulled one at that and got dumped into the giant basket of "idiot bitch which spread her legs for Maric".
***** You sound bitter, as if you were a guy picking and choosing what pieces of 'canon' are acceptable and which are not all on their lonesome. I think I'll go with what Bioware says instead of your headcanon :-p As for ages... Alistair was born in 9 : 10, Cailan in 9 : 5. The latter became king at age 20. Origins starts when he's 25, and ends about a year later, in 9 : 31. As for David Gaider... the dude was the lead writer for Origins, not just the author of a couple Dragon Age side novels. He *made* the characters you're bitching about (Alistair and Cailan), from my understanding. That means the "in game lore" you treasure so highly? *Came from him*.
CircleTheSkies No its actually the official bioware stance, Books are headcanon, your game choice is official for your playtroughs. And no, he was just the lead writer (which just means the guy who bitches to people about how the game isnt cinematic enough), the characters are MADE by the people who actually developed the game. So /permaban~
***** Wiki David Gaider. "Gaider was set as lead writer on Baldur's Gate's spiritual successor, Dragon Age: Origins, creating the world of Thedas in which the game is set. He wrote the characters of Zevran, Alistair, Cailan, Morrigan, Shale and Duncan along with the quests "Nature of the Beast" and "Redcliffe"." So he's the lead writer and the guy who wrote the two brothers. So where does Bioware (directly or through the game) say that Alistair isn't Fiona's son, exactly? As for Goldanna, let me explain how the classic "fake parentage" schtick goes in classic fiction. You have a pregnant woman who stillbirths (or is willing to give up their kid for money) as the "mother". That's even if Goldanna was old enough to understand pregnancy and the like at the time. So what's in the game is a woman who is believed to be Alistair's half-sister by both Alistair and herself. Give me a specific scene that contradicts this, kindly, in any of the 'paths' you can take.
Jesse please read ! Every thing you read can be decoded, more like has to be, so you can know the secret sentence you need in the riddle game at the end
yes but in nightmare blackwall will not die. iron bull will, and outside of healing potions and devour which isnt that good doesnt have reliable healing
busbee247 no... look, Blackwall is tank, Iron Bull is not. Of course you wouldn't have Iron Bull as your parties only warrior/tank but what says you cant have both Iron Bull and Blackwall.. so no, Iron Bull does not "die in nightmare". Ok, maybe he is not as much of a superman for what it comes to defensive mastery but he doesn't have to be since most of the time he will not be hit, because Blackwall/Cassandra will take the heat. And Blackwall doesn't have any more reliable healing than Bull.. less even since Iron Bull has devour which is more than enough to keep him alive. Anyway Iron Bull = dps, Blackwall = tanky... both are top notch, both should be pretty safe picks for party :D
Best way to work loot I found was pick up everything, wait till you go to a shop, equip, sell almost everything else. I have never had problems with inventory space useing this method.
Bogglemanify That's what I do in every single RPG. Get everything, equip the best things, and if I run out of space, work out which combination of items will get me the most money once sold.
You need to do the following: Second floor is reached by going to the fast travel section and clicking the upper floor then traveling. Also talk to your companions fully. U skipped Varric and u need to talk to him about red lyrium to get the quest to destroy it.
As many have commented, you really need to finish the Red Jenny quest, and also visit Vivienne (the First Enchanter) right away. For some reason you need to use TRAVEL inside the town to get to the second level, just approach one of the doorways marked. Getting your companions together, and talking to them regularly, is a huge part of most Bioware games, and even more so here. Actually I find them more interesting than the main plot. Talking to them often gets you new quests and leads; right now both Varric and Solas have subjects to explore.
Jesse, for the love of all things holy, you will go back to Orlais. You will look at your map of the second level. You will hit the fast travel icon. And you will finish the Red Jenny quest. Do it. No disappointment.
Be sure to pick up Sera and Vivienne at some point! Vivienne can be located on the world map, while Sera can be located after completing the Red Jenny quest you get from the arrow message.
next gen open world still requires you to go to map to access second floor which is clearly in same 3d space as first floor(you can fall down from upper floors to the lowest). good one bioware! i spent 15 minutes looking for the stairs!
***** please, i know that. i have the game. i am using the term "open world" loosely considering the vast upgrade in open spaces for the player to free roam. that doesn't negate my point. If you are capable of having huge open spaces like the hinterlands, you shouldn't have to go through a menu screen to get to the second floor of another area. Don't you think it's a little ridiculous that a level that clearly shares the same 3d space (lower market and upper market) doesn't allow you to use stairs? The level itself isn't even big.
That poor messenger at the end had too pee so badly he was doing the pee pee dance, and you are asking him questions. That's just mean, and I'd do the same thing. lol/
oooh looking forward to meeting more companions. I saw a tweet saying you'd done some co-op with wheaton and i hope you guys recorded it, because that would be so awesome to watch!!!
and the plot thickens, there are so many elements that we know about that could be responsible for this. it could be darkspawn, it could be wardens. but the real villain behind it all must be Sandal.
Jesse, the book about Emperor Florian was a lot more relevant and important to the game than that song you read. Emperor Florian was the predecessor of Empress Celene, the current monarch of Orlais (whom you will meet later on). That book explains Celene's somewhat unstable claim to the throne, and why it can be contested enough to cause a Civil War (between her and her cousin, Duke Gaspard, who was first in line to the throne, but Celene took it right from under him).
JESSE MA MAN, YOUR BRAIN WILL EXPLODE ONCE YOU END SHADOW OF MORDOR. Sorry for the caps, I just finished the game and, man, my mind is just ... Booom ...
I hate how Dragon Age games make cities that you can't fully explore. Even though DA 2 took place entirely in Kirkwall, you couldn't explore the entire thing. And from a lore perspective, Val Royeaux was huge, however, from a gameplay perspective, its only about the size of Cassardis from Dragon's Dogma, and has less in it. Now Gran Soren, THATS a video game city! Even though it was still kind of on the small side from a lore perspective, you could explore all of it! And the common citizens of the city knew to lock their doors to prevent would-be heroes from looting as they tend to do in fantasy RPGs. Too bad DD only had two cities.
It was pointless to make Val Royeaux large. You were meant to spend most of your time dallying about in Haven or Skyhold, not in some Orelesian city where you would inflate the economy by selling the vendors poison spider glands.
Having played through both the mage quest line and the templar quest line on separate playthroughs, I must say the mage one is far more interesting. You can only recruit one or the other I'm afraid. You can't have both the mages and the templars Jesse, the game doesn't allow it.
Does anyone else cringe at the fact that when he enters the shops he always says that he doesn't need anything? Man! You've been running with full inventory for two episodes already :D
so question. im playing dragon age origins right now. and all the templars i see have the sword on their armor pointing up. is there a reason these templars have the sword pointing down? does that mean anything?
am i the only one that plays dragon age as a magic racist/hater? i always choose to be against the mages whenever the chance and i always abck the chantry up, the mages cause too much caos in thedas, seems like everyone always helps them or stands with them, but im glad bioware gives us choices
I, too, don't approve of mages in a lot of senses. I like and support reasonable mages like Vivienne, or someone like Wynne from DA:O. Although I did decide to solve the mage conflict instead of going with templars, it was mainly because their quest was incredibly interesting. Also... SPOILERS I'm really happy that Bioware gave me the choice of conscripting/taking the mages prisoner instead of having an outright alliance with them. Thank you for choices! :D
***** Destroy whats left of the order? Is that possible? I thought it was only Join us as Allies / Join us (literally) as Inquisition Templars And... What?? You didn't like Wynne? She let her past mistakes and regrets shape her into a better person; She literally was such a good person a Spirit said "Yeah, lets save her"... I mean, that takes something special.
I side with them but I wish their was a kind of middle ground road to take. I think they deserve to be treated better but they are still obviously dangerous and need to be regulated somehow.
I usually play the underdog then act indignant to everyone I meet that doesnt come with a smile and a handshake. I love some of the responses. Especially one play through during origins where I was a city elf and flatly told the happy go lucky king when he asked how I was doing that my friend was almost raped and I killed her rapist. He seemed genuinely disturbed in his response and had no way to respond to that information, and just gave me a "uh see you later" type remark then the conversation ended.
awesome vid! Nic Mage kicks ass! he could use a new coat though. he looks silly...the game is really beautiful. i cant see ur mouse cursor... is it on purpose? cant wait to see u “ ♫ shock the demons ♫ ” again.
Dude use the merchant shop off camera .....buy and sell stuff (you cand buy all good items ,equip and then just tell people u have done that...) we dont mind :)

Why did the Lord Seeker look so weird? His face seemed so... melty.
YES! Iron Bull is the single best follower in the game.
also one of the strongest.. dragon's rage is op
Hokageeeeeee
nah blackwall is mega op... completely unkillable

Iron bull is the biggest badass in the game. Also Krem is amazing
jesse you can use those fast travel points in the city to get to the second level
Life goal
1- Get a group of Badasses
2- Close the gate
3- Find 1 or 2 chicks to get with
4- Get drunk with Varrek
Best goals I've ever heard
TheRuneTail and get sera
Jesse, here's a tip: the icon you see, where you saw the mission icon, its a fast travel icon, you can travel using the map to the upper levels.
Dragon Age High... I can see it now, Biowares first Visual Novel game :O
Jesse, for the love of all things holy, you will go back to Orlais. You will look at your map of the second level. You will hit the fast travel icon. And you will finish the Red Jenny quest. Do it. No disappointment.

Nicolas Mage trying to save the world and everyone else is just lollygagging

That poor messenger at the end had too pee so badly he was doing the pee pee dance, and you are asking him questions. That's just mean, and I'd do the same thing. lol/
She*
Sorry I couldn't hear the voice
I thought it was a male kinda adult but kinda still a kid.
Can we compromise to make it an individual? I mean pee pee dances do seem universal. It's kinda like farts, someone is going to giggle about it.
Antonio Banderas Krem (the messenger) is transgender and goes by male pronouns.
oooh looking forward to meeting more companions. I saw a tweet saying you'd done some co-op with wheaton and i hope you guys recorded it, because that would be so awesome to watch!!!
Jesse, you have to stop reading everything!! Please! Lol.
There's a Circle Tower in Ontario Canada? I was completely unaware.
Captain Ferelden: Tevinter Soldier.
i like the mercenary around 46:00 's dance lol, he looks like he has to pee really really bad
If I ever make an RPG, 90 percent of the budget will be to have Jesse VO every single readable object in the game.
Jesse! You have to hire those mercs! Look at this guy! Can't even sit still, he's so eager to help!

+wolfson109 He did say "not in 12 thousand years"... took him 11 thousand though so... Mission Accomplished?
Jesse reading French is both hilarious and making my ears bleed.
Iron Bull!!!! One of my favorite characters! Total badass!
About that Randy Dowager book, if someone is callipygian it means they've a beautiful and shapely rear end.
3:39 Orinstein is that you? how did you get out of Lordran/ Drangleic?
I like that Lucius kinda looks like the high elves in Oblivion.
Yet another amazing video!!
JESSE MA MAN, YOUR BRAIN WILL EXPLODE ONCE YOU END SHADOW OF MORDOR.
Sorry for the caps, I just finished the game and, man, my mind is just ... Booom ...
They have three people writting poetry. Four, counting jimmy, if that answers your question.
This place is so french... so much french... so ... much... french.. and it's pretty funny to hear Jesse try to pronounce it :)
Make sure to speak with the female merchant in the main square. She will agree to join your cause.
Love your stuff... Keep em coming (for dragon age...)
ha, sort of reminds me of Guuld Wars 2 and Divinity's Reach. Partially it might be because of the color palette they have used.
when you meet the bull, watch out for the horns!

punch of the old ladys damn
Damn it Jessie, that helm, that God awful helm, hid it please. Love you Jessie lol!

Another Inquisition Video, Another wave of subs that demands that Jesse plays the game a Certain way. Brace yourselves.
You can get to the upper market. You need to use the city map to fast travel.
Hey jesse why not take a look at the armor crafting again, there might be better armor available to ya i noticed a video or 2 back.
Jesse, Are you going to be playing the Game of Thrones game?
so question. im playing dragon age origins right now. and all the templars i see have the sword on their armor pointing up. is there a reason these templars have the sword pointing down? does that mean anything?
Indeed you'd be crazy not to return to the Hinterlands! Eventually.
Thumps up just for 5:50 that was hilarious :D
Choose wisely Jessie, Mages or Templars, you can only go to one P=
I really liked this episode the story advancement was good and like every good rpg player l loker how you explored
Nic Mage gonna get cozy with Josie, eh?
She can be the Roxanne Simpson/Eva Mendes to his Johnny Blaze/Nic Cage :D
Jesse! Talk to everyone in Haven!

that punch to the nun just looked so crappy.
damnit jesse, I want moar. since it's a big open world RPG can we get longer episodes for this?
That said, I sympathize.
Also... Don't ride the bull...
she was holding her side because she fell and broke her hip in true old lady fashion and is now in need of a hip replacement

Have you ever done any audio books Jesse?
So, can we hope for Nicholas Mage x Iron Bull romance now? :)
"Loftable produce" basically meaning tomatoes, and eggs... =p
So pissed when I found out I couldn't romance Vivienne.
YOu have to use the fast travel point on the map to get to the second level LOL, they are they circle spinwheel thingies
