I have a suggestion for you to get the lug nut off of swamp thing. On South main Auto repair RUclips channel Title DIY seized/stopped lug nut removal I believe you will find your answer by drilling it off
Just hammer a 12 point chrome socket on to it. I have done it tons of times over the years. It may destroy the socket but has always worked for me.....
Either beat a socket over it or they do sell wheel lock removal kits at Harbor Freight for about 30 bucks. Yes, it's HF crap but in this case, you only need it to work twice.
Hey anything is possible, I budget built up a v6 Camaro to around 500hp and it was always fun when I'd smoke the beefed up v8s on the dragstrip and when they asked me to pop the hood the reactions were priceless.. Massive power house and still had good fuel economy.. win win lol. Side note why didn't you torch them off? before welding the bolt on you should've soaked them in PB blaster.
Dude, seriously, just take it to a tire shop, or hit the locks with a torch and get them cherry red, then pound the closest sized impact socket over it and zip them off. Ez pz.
The tire locks: Give VGG a call and see if he has any ideas he's old school with some tricks up his sleeve. Watching you guys try is good enough for me you and Mike did your best.
I have NEVER seen that NOT WORK (lug nut welding)!! Well, you did it a great service restoring it to the condition it's in. Let it become someone else's headache.
A friend had to get a nut welded on her 4 wheels when she lost her key to the locks. I had forgotten about that stunt. Mike looks like a fun guy. Hope he lets us know when he gets his channel going.
fixing the vett fully would be the greatest thing you have done to date. do not let that achievement fall by the wayside....you CAN DO THIS !!! dont give up Randy!!!
Randy speaking from UK , whatever you decide will continue to watch but a 5000 mile trip in a country I probably will never visit sounds brilliant All the best
You have to show failures, like you said it's part of life. Mike's idea was in the right ballpark but I think you should have taken a non-chrome impact socket, that would hammer over the "key", I guess now bolt too, weld the socket on and hopefully be done, Thanks Randy and Mike!
Randy, don't give up! Swamp Vette has been the ultimate challenge. Your 90% there! Keep pushing! Replace the injector O-ring that is leaking. No one will buy a fire hazard. Since the wheels have been under water. I bet the nuts are oxidized to the wheels. I think your idea using a plasma cutter will do the job!
Very cool that guy... well you tried what you can for that super beautiful car ... maybe it is time but we loved it so much... you gonna have a hard time to find a car as fun as this one ... we want to know what you gonna do with it and the end of it all thank ....
Mike, your time with the Swampvette was not a failure at all! Remember when it first arrived in the shop? That thing was a complete mess inside and out, and you’ve revived her to such a significant degree that that in of itself is a great achievement! I insist, get a photo of when she first rolled in and compare it to now. Despite her not being completely on her feet you did a bloody good job on her, feel proud about that
You really are a down to earth guy. I love you for this! My ex girlfriend was the exact same as the relationship with the Vette. Everything was me and I got nothing but grief in return. Its nasty but you feel better cutting your losses. Yes, nothing was done in this video, but its real and its genuine. And that, is entertaining and what I like.
I know how to get those wheels off as I’ve done it many times at the wrecking yard. Grab a set of 1/2” deep impact sockets in Metric and SAE and pound on one with a sledgehammer that is smaller then the locknut then impact it off.
Mike seems like one of those hard to find, trustworthy old school mechanics/car guys that has learned everything he knows from experience - by trial and error. Not someone who read a book or watched a video and considers themselves an expert. Hard to find a guy like him nowadays

I got Pacifica control arm job flashbacks watching this. Every bolt was rusted up real good and my impact couldn't move any of them. I had to get my big Bertha 24" ratchet and fight them for hours on each wheel, and it needed those changed on all four corners. That's when I really started resenting that car. Looking forward to seeing more from Mike and the i3!
why does this guy mike jones look like Odin? he seems like a nice guy . hope to see him more on your channel randy, I watch vice grip garage drive thousands of miles in revivals and would LOVE to watch you drive ANYTHING
I use to work at NTB and Kauffman tire. Whenever we had to get a wheel lock off we would hammer a metric impact socket then use the impact wrench to get it off. Never failed.
Good to see you buddy swamp very likes causing you trouble tell mike good luck good luck to you to see randy. If it ain’t v8 it don’t sound right. I’m a v8 person I have an o8 cvpi 4 point 6
I appreciate you showing the fails as well as the wins. Too many channels give a false impression of how easy this is, leading people to get in over their heads when they try it at home. It's not just car channels either. Most of the guys running exercise channels don't show the part where they didn't get stronger or lose any weight for 2 months in a row, but that stuff happens. Acknowledging that it does is better for everyone in the long run, and if we get to see you grinding sometimes, then it'll make your triumphs mean more to us, we'll be MORE happy for you when you get a big win.
Hey Randy this is Harold from Arkansas, keep your head up but you'll figure it out and it will be great take your time and do it right. All your fans will be rooting for you no matter what.
I bort a C4 bout 4 weeks ago now (a dream purchase for me) the next day had a leaking frame rail same place as yours, had to use 3x O rings to stop the leak plus it was a pain, the next day had a water leak under the AC unit it was a Super challenge to get to, it was a thin steel T connector had to remove AC unit but couldn't remove the AC bracket, anyways got it done, then on the test drive the Optima battery blow 1 of the caps off!! Apparently the alternator is over charging, so $489 for a new battery n probably 3 too $400 for a alternator...I'm jus waiting for the next amazing surprise, didn't think I'd still be working on cars at my age...plus it wasn't exactly a cheap purchase. Living in NZ parts are very scarce.

Hey Randy honestly I hoped that you could get corvette fully done but I know how it goes but you do deserve a big well done for getting that car from what it was to what it is now pal
I drove my BMW M2 across the USA last year. from PA to CA, then did 3 rallys out west. it was one hell of a time. Im planning to do the same this year but i might swap out the car to something a bit more faster. 180 dont cut it out west like it does out east. :)
Randy i would sent it down the road! Let somebody else fix it! But hey thanks for the video Mike tried his best!! Yes i would be interested in the cross country trip!!
Guys, don't forget it was submerged in Florida. Maybe even salt water. The aftermarket lug nuts are rusting faster, so it's a thrilling combination. No wonder there were tigh as welded. This is a real challange. But yeah nice try ;)
Randy, I enjoy watching you find and wrench on cars others have given up on, then moving them on to someone else for more use. I probably would not watch a road trip in a fancy electric Bimmer; too much like some other RUclipsrs that I watch once in a while when I can’t find much else to watch. Randy, stay true to who you REALLY are!
Yes! Very interested in a trip you might take to California! I have done it on Am Track, By conversion van, by car and of course by plane. The train was the best!
I like Mike, seems like a nice humble guy, and kind of him to come and try help you. This video was still entertaining Randy, even though u didn't manage to get the wheels off! Love from Manchester, UK 🇬🇧

I’ve just seen the trouble you’re having I the same problem I found a RUclips channel get a smaller socket and hammer it the nut and It worked a treat. You sacrifice a but it’s worth it 👍
Just being on camera and being genuine, whether or not you succeed everytime is worthwhile to me, I'd rather watch your videos because you keep it real, That is Real Liked and full view , Staysafe I don't miss driving to California and back at all, made that trip 100's of times when we used to deliver Winnebagos
had this happen to me on a recent c4 I bought for a project car to restore. Ended up having to plasma cut through the wheels and the nut. The stud obviously was destroyed because of this and so were the wheels, but on the bright side decided it was a good time to replace the wheel bearings after that. And buy a whole new set of wheels...
You have to weld a nut to the wheel lock. By using a nut you are able to fill the interior thread section with weld onto the wheel lock. You get alot more weld penetration strength this way. Grind it down somehow and try a large nut. It will work, i have done it. Good Luck!
I had the same problem when i bought my used challenger. You know how i got 2 wheel locks off?...i took it to PEPBOYS ($80). IDK if they can get it off now after what you guys did.
Randy the only way to remove the lock nuts is to grind off the chrome and then use a large nut and wield it on in the center of the nut. This works I have done it.
Randy now that the nuts been heated try the pound on removal socket . Cobolt drill bits slow speed drill. Drill it out . It's not a new car things rust up . If I was closer I would come over and knock it out. Janesville Wisconsin is a few miles away. Keep making the videos. Dale Nickel
Looking forward to Mike's channel. Not sure why you chose to use a bolt. I've threaded a nut on the bolt ,tack the nut to the lug lock remove bolt, finish welding the nut filling the center of nut for good penetration. This has always worked for me. Food for thought for the next time.
Done a lot of these, drilled? yes but they are not soft steel so it won't be easy, but yes it can be done. Nut? yes, and maybe, the nuts are recessed so there is very little room to weld in that area, bolt was the easier idea. Dremel, yes again but the tight area means you need to use a pretty slow bit to grind on it, a long process. Those locks are either super hard ( vice grip won't work, or the chisel or super-soft outside with a hard tube inside so you can't split them. $30 lock kit of amazon is the best bet, you just hammer them on and they will work 90% of the time. but not always. Sometimes on the super-hard ones, you can take a chisel and catch an edge and hammer it to rotate it off. No money go to your socket set and find the closets socket to fit it but too tight, hammer the bugger on, not easy on the super-hard ones, once off you may have a bad socket but they are $4-8 bucks, pretty cheap.
Do a giveaway on that vette, I'd be willing to bet any one of us viewers would be happy to continue working on it, including the fuel rail o-rings and those lug locks.
Hate to see you give up on the corvette! I don't think that is really you but it is what it is. I was really hoping you would conquer the vette. Idk what changes you have coming but I sure hope you don't go away from your roots that got you where you are today. I rather see this than you driving a car around the country but it's your choice and your life. I wish you well and hope all goes as you are thinking. Good luck my friend! If you ever come to Tennessee give me a shout
Hell yeah brother do whatever makes you happy at the end of the day it's your life and your channel we can only give opinions but ultimately you are the one that decides where things go and what you do and don't post you real fans/sub's will support you no matter what you choose
Mike's cool bro can't wait for his channel to come out, and love the idea of you doing 5000 thousand mile but can't wait to see what you do and what comes to the channel next bro.
Wow, lessons learned from car channel. Randy, as heartbreaking as it sounds you hit that nail on the head. And as tough as it may be, like everything this and life dished out....you survived. You're no failure. You definitely showed us all you're a winner
In the past, I've used an air chisel with a small chisel bit to drive the lug off. The bit can't be too sharp or it will just cut the lug instead of driving it off.
By now you do not have much to loose with the wheels. Try heating up the lock nuts with an oxy torch and then quenching to break any rust, or while hot jam on a socket and undo. You might want to heat and quench a couple of times before trying to undo with a hammered on socket. Good luck. I can see new rims coming.
I have a suggestion for you to get the lug nut off of swamp thing.

Hell yeah brother do whatever makes you happy at the end of the day it's your life and your channel we can only give opinions but ultimately you are the one that decides where things go and what you do and don't post you real fans/sub's will support you no matter what you choose
Just watched a south main auto video. He used some good drill bits to drill through studs to remove rounded lug nuts. I need some of those bits.
Looking forward to mikes channel
Mike's cool bro can't wait for his channel to come out, and love the idea of you doing 5000 thousand mile but can't wait to see what you do and what comes to the channel next bro.
I had one like that. PIA. Went to Napa and their removal one was was only one to get the lug off.. I curse these lugs at times.
Wait, this is Mike's first video!?!!
Awesome! He has some great projects!
Road trip sounds awesome. Have a great day.
