Enjoyed this and as someone who hits 5' tall on a good day and uses lack of leverage as an excuse, it is nice to see where the right arm should be.... and not collapsing.
I am looking forward to this video series! I need more speed! Love how you explained how the right hand does the throwing motion correctly. Great video!
It’s great advice for seniors, but it’s also great advice for anyone that wants to swing in triple force, and not have to manually square the clip face up and create maximum clubheads speed so to me that’s everybody in the world
Roger, are there some thoughts, visuals, or drills I can work on that helps me from opening my trail arm in the backswing? Its hard for me to not have my trail hand palm up to the sky in the backswing leaving the face wide open (I'm a lefty)
yes, then your right hand is too strong of a grip so your left hand is turned too much under so therefore when you hinge your hands back, the palm face is more of the sky, and so then that elbow would be tucked in more than what it should be in the palm will face the sky so get your cause you’re left-handed Golfer so get your right hand where you can just see 2 1/2 knuckles or so of the correct file links. Make sure you go over the grip that I’ve talked about and from there then make sure it’s the pinky that’s on top of the pointer finger not interlocked not too much in the palm and then that scaphoid to be more on top for your left hand and that would make it when you hinge it back to be on plane
Manuel de La Torre taught the arm swing but wasn’t specific about the position at the top because it is different for everyone. He taught to swing the club back with your hands as far as your shoulder, then swing forward with your arms to the opposite shoulder.
agree, but he did prefer a grip that was neutral where the left hand did do the backhand motion and the right hand did do the under hand motion and that’s the only way that that the hands can go over the shoulder on both sides
Hi Roger, your explanation is very good as when I was 14-15years old I was Austin’s student and his “teachings” weren’t so clear sometimes or actually most of time. He kept saying “don’t harpoon the whale 🐳 “ what!?!? 🤔 It took me a while to understand it. But yes, all the speed does come from the hands! Your video has a lot of good details! 👍
I understand and see what you are saying about keeping the right arm wide. At the 11:00 in the video you say not to pull the right arm in towards your shoulder, but I do. Exactly how do I stop doing this. Telling me not do it isn't correctly the problem.
I have seen almost every wrist release pattern the wrists are capable of taught by various well known RUclips instructors. That makes it one of the most confusing parts of the swing for me.
Yes, I know it can be confusing. I would definitely say just pick one instructor that you like. I try to use some triple force to square the club face up so my left hand is a back hand and my right hand is an under hand throw I put them together and when your rich joints are lined up and you swing the way to the club over your shoulder, you can 100% swing your arm for the target and not have to manipulate or anything and let your body respond. That is the general gist of the whole thing that I teach in a simple nutshell if you’d like to do something else I completely understand and I hate that it is confusing for people
@ Thank you for that. I have noticed that swinging into an impact bag gives me a very natural feeling sensation of squaring the club face and the release without manipulation.
We have to see you hitting balls on a range and a real Launch monitor . I have been following you for a while now and never actually see you hit a driver with real numbers . Maybe you can even get a Square unit or MLM2 and simply hit into a net while having the screen to the side like other teachers do .
Roger, great video! I used to have this right arm(elbow) collapsing At the top of the backswing issue. For me the problem was that I was Was moving my swing too much behind me instead of up. Now I go From P2 up instead of behind and that way my right elbow has the correct throwing position at the top as you describe.
actually, it is not collapsed. It just goes so far back from the throwing motion because my left arm is connected to it that it literally makes the right shoulder go back behind every single long driver in history pretty much just has their hands over top of their head the right arm did not change structure. It just got stretched more. I did a video about that how the arm swings from freely from the shoulders and the scapula and the back tracks and only the long drivers do that so once you’re able to start whining your hand up further and further and further, and you have the flexibility to get back there that’s when you start getting the higher and higher speeds
This is very interesting just last night I was farting around in the basement swinging a club with a wider right arm, and was a little shocked how much more powerful it felt and the louder swoosh!
I agree with the fast right arm but what I've found is when you attach the lead arm to the club it causes problems with the motion, I suspect due to lead arm being attached to the shoulder, maybe you can share your opinion about this, thank you
@JerryVanderburg yes I can basically the left hand is not in the correct position to make the backhand motion where the hand turns over and the forearm rotates in the elbow folds so that’s if your grip is too weak then it doesn’t matter what your right hand wind up throwing motion does the wristbone will bow and you will not be able to release
@@lenardtan7169 all relative to your strength and flexibility to be able to have the club swung back . You just dont want to go back so slow that it doesnt have a swinging property to it
Remember you have to square the club face -- so if you just whip your arm and don't move your wrists correctly you will shoot the ball off to the right.
When you have the correct grip and you swing your arms from the tops and typical four squares the club face for you if you have an incorrect grip yes then you have to do some kind manipulation. I hit the golf ball very hard and very straight and I do not have to manipulate my hands through impact nor should you.
Thanks - looking forward to the series

Active wrists are the biggest killer of a pendulum swing.
@@dimtgco1428 agreed you have to have this hand action to have a double pendulum which this is
A pendulum doesn’t have hand action
