Your last video opened my eyes about not being so active with rotating the upper body. That is definitely something I battle. When I'm hitting it best lately is when I feel the club go past me and basically pull me through impact. We'll hook up soon for a lesson when weather gets a little better. Keep em' coming, Roger!
Roger. How come I didn't hear about you fifty years ago? Answer is you were probably not playing or even born back then! Anyway I am 73 years old, have been down to 11 handicap in my time but never ever understood the swing until now. I have putted one handed (very well) and chipped one handed so everything you say makes perfect sense and your drills are fantastic. I have wasted so much time trying to get in positions that are impossible for me even fifty years ago. A lot of them I just followed, tried and failed because I figured that the golfing gurus were wiser than me (Leadbetter et al) and who was I to question them? However, using your right arm and wrists as you teach IS THE WAY! it always was and people like you (and Shawn Clement) plus other coaches here in the UK are seeing the light. Alex Elliot is a great young coach. Look him up. All I can say is THANK YOU MOST SINCERELY. From an old geezer who has finally had a golfing epiphany.
Love all that... Yes I would have been 2 years old .. ha ha ha I am so glad to be able to help you . Tomorrow's video should really show even more clarity and a upcoming ode to Sam Snead is on the horizon .. Enjoy !!!
Yes, Roger I agree with you. I’ve been watching RUclips videos for years and I’ve acquired bad movement in my golf swing that has wrecked accuracy and distance. Thanks for bringing up about these people who should keep their mouth shut on golf instruction.
Always like your videos. I am the person that bought into the idea that one needed to use the body to create club speed. I had always felt I used my arms too much as I would be exhausted hitting golf balls- so I thought I needed to fire my hips more. In reality I was already moving my torso/hips and my arms had to catch up. I would drag the club handle and have horrible chicken wing. Finally understand that wrist, elbows arms swing the club back and the arms, elbow then wrist make the club swing towards target. Body simply supports and reacts. Single arm swings the body needs to turn much less than when one places both arms on the club. Great content.
Tho i got down to 9hcp i ruined my good natural throwing action with 000s of full swings with stuff under my armpits ie far to much body, now thanks to RK im down to 5 hcp @ 65yo
Teaching GF golf, she said she cant throw! Used dog ball chucker to almost instantly teach her to throw after 40 yrs, first over hand then underhand, tho as a former javelin thrower i would stress the rot cuff/chest to start the sequence leading to the release But the biggest improvement ive made thanks to your videos is in my footwork, lat rot vert forces happen in my feet ankles to start swing and reverse it
tried this right arm action i.e. downswing selective elbow extension today while passively holding wrist extension and transformed my ball striking period!
Great job, Roger. My question is on hand action with chip shots. Do you chip with the same hand action on your chips as with irons and woods? Do you have a video demonstrating your chipping technique? Keep the videos coming, man!
Roger I'm right hand dominant but swing left handed. I've had some success at shooting around my age and under at 71. That being said it seems like in mid round I change from a right hand pulling swing to a left hand pushing swing. This always ends up bad. Bottom line is I need a swing thought to stay left hand dominant which usually produces a better result. The right hand pull usually produces a pull draw big enough to miss most greens, not good.
@@RickKuester I would look at the passive hands and arms feel and the focus on the swinging like you walk .. So the right hand backhands passively and the left hand throws Also make sure the grip is how the hands hang I have a ton of videos on this And more insight on my new video dropping at 2 pm this afternoon
Never see this before can't wait to try it . I have trouble with my turning though the shot with my body . I'm always tryin to skip the rock not pitch underhand .
In the beginning with right hand only, you finish with the back of the right hand pointing somewhat to the ground. Then you show the left hand rolling over which would have the back of the right hand more pointing up. Obviously both hands are on the club, so they have to work together. I'm assuming the "feel" of the back of the right hand would be down but it actually has roll over. Correct??
Correct... The right hand hinges back and the left hand quarter rolls . When put together it is on plane Hitting balls with right hand only The hand wiil point to the ground till elbow folds which makes the right shoulder go external.. hope that clarifies
I really like your instruction. I get the right hand throw but when I do that the with the left hand on the club the left wrist breaks backward not rolling over.
Don't feel your hand going under. Think of your right arm extending to the flag . Like tossing a ball. The other issues can be that you aren't winding the hand on the backswing and the pressure shifts aren't happening the way they are supposed to .. and finally left wrist can be turned to the left to much and so blocking forearms from rotating correctly
Great video! I think this movement is relativly easy to do right hand only, but when I add the left hand it messes up the feel and it’s not as free and easy to do. Any thoughts?
Yes, that means that your left hand is not on the golf club correctly to make the backhand motion when it comes through and then also to help it the right hand load so the left hand not being in the correct grip so watch that video where I talk about the master move master drill, making sure that left hand Obliquely across the pinky where the palm meets and the second file length of the pointer finger and it should release naturally
I see when your club is parallel the toe is straight up, many will say the face should match the spine and be pointed at the ball. Otherwise at some point you have to rotate it down. Thoughts?
Keeping the club facing the ball that long means the forearm didn't rotate and the club isn't working on semi circle . The right elbow and arm straightens it doesn't turn down .
Always like your videos. I am the person that bought into the idea that one needed to use the body to create club speed. Single arm swings the body needs to turn much less than when one places both arms on the club. Great content.
@@rkswingking my point is if you stand straight up the toe points up and matches the spine, when bent over and doing nothing else the club should still match the spine which actually faces the ball. ( no roll required). Having the toe up when bent over is an open face, straightening of the right arm alone is not enough. Is that why you say the left hand rolls? because in reality that’s a turn down.
hi; does the same concept apply to driver? I understand how your body doesn't get involved much with an iron but with a driver you need the big muscles (i.e. legs) to achieve that horsepower you're looking for, no?
Great question and if you watch my next series, I believe it was the speed series and today I am launching the next part which talks about the lower body and it’s about 4:00 PM central time
Rodger, I have a question regarding how you give or maintain structure in your golf swing. I tend to be too loose and for example if I have a side hill lie on the right I tend to toe-shank The ball because gravity wants to pull my swing arc down and that moves the impact to the toe. I have not seen any videos on your channel on this topic, maybe you could help us golfers with some info and drills thanks!!! Ulrich
I feel like you already answered it with the feeling that your tendency is to be to loose . Just have enough tension to feel the club swinging but not so light it comes loose . The uneven lies you have to set your spine to match the slope before you swing and I always take 1 or 2 more clubs on any uneven lie as to help with balance . I will make some of those videos when warm weather hits and can do some outside videos
@@rkswingking There is a video named Extensor Action Drill - by John Furze where he uses the right arm to extend/stretch the left arm sort of like it was a rope. Is that how you create structure or how do you do it? Thanks for your response! Maybe I did not express myself correctly ...
When you say "arm goes straight to the target", do you mean the forearm or the upper arm"? Arm is the upper arm, period. So, what "goes to the target"?????
@@HHHWLH yes the right arm will go to the target the forearm rotates by the left hand rolling over in a backhand motion. The right arm and forearm will be pointed at the target by arm parralel
@@rkswingking This is driving me nuts. I have a very difficult time making my right arm go towards the target during the downswing. If not, how do I make my right arm go towards the target during the downswing? Yikes! Please help, Roger. Thanks.
I wonder no one on you tube, teaches, lower body disassociation, I had forgotten some teaching dude 5 years ago say it was not important, I had to find an ex touring teaching pro, who pointed out immediately, that my lower body was not doing anything, fact is, without learning to re center the lower body first, you will never play good golf. You can spend countless hours working on your posture, ball positioning, take away, grip, but if you don’t learn to re center first, you won’t play good golf, probably is just for the pros to learn it? Thus no one teachings this, I have taken many lessons trying to figure out what had gone wrong, until 6 months ago when the PGA guy noticed it.
skipping a rock teaching isn't explained correctly. you have to perform the skipping the rock maneuver straight down at the ball and not out towards the target. out towards target leaves face wide open.
Not while left forearm rotates and makes a back hand motion to compliment it . The same elbow bends that happens on one side happens on the other in a circle
