Guys, this wrist snapping tip is seriously no joke. No kidding whatsoever, my wife was out-driving me on the course almost every time until I finally put this tip into action. I took it to the driving range and INSTANTLY added 50 yards to my driver. I went from barely rolling to 210 to LANDING at 260-270...just like that! I got the snap down in ONE bucket of 75 balls. At the end of that bucket, I hit 10 shots 250 or over IN A ROW! It was like finding buried treasure!
It is no joke. Without this you will be hitting it with your wrist locked up. Keep at it. This is a huge piece of the swing. Once you know you are doing it then switch your focus to the legs and hips for even more power.
Hello Paul - in my 76th year you have shown me how to hit some of the best shots of my life with more consistency. I play 6100 yards and currently carry an 11 handicap. Thank you, sir - your Body Swing Course is excellent.
Paul - I've been watching some of your videos, and you have a great and simply way of explaining things. This snapping wrist sensation is something I have started to experience. It doesn't come to me every time, as I am working also on perfecting my tempo. But yes, when I experience that snap, the swing becomes so effortless. It still takes more practice, until it becomes second nature. Anyway, thank you so much! Your videos are really great!!
Thanks so much. Simple is the key. The wrist snap is huge. This will get you power and get you squaring or closing the face (which is better than leaving it open). Don't worry about tempo right now. Get the snap and master it first. This is priority 1. Once you are confident you know the feeling then you are starting to apply legs and hips as the power source and to straighten it out. Most popular trigger: ruclips.net/video/RdphthCQ9VM/видео.html
This tip did the trick! I've taken a few lessons now and it's been useful. This one concept of snapping the wrists brought my whole swing together!! Thank you Paul! One trip to the range after watching this has literally added 25+ yards to every club in my bag. PW to driver. I'm usually pretty exhausted after the range because I've been swinging with my arms this whole time. This last trip to the range, I went through 4 buckets and I still had gas in the tank! What a game changer!
Glad it helped! This is a huge part of the swing. Too many people are too tight. This tightness locks the wrists. Yes, you should be able to have tons of energy. Hitting with arms wears you out. Use the looseness of the wrists for power. Then you can do it for life. You don't have to be strong to be loose. Keep at it.
Don't dwell on the negative. Snapping is left is half right. What do you want to do blow it right? Doubt it. So you have half. You just need the other half. Watch: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html Listen carefully to what I say in that tip.
Anyone who can teach me something that will improve my game I will gladly watch and listen. I have watched several of your videos and have learnt something new from most of them.
Great to hear! This is a vital part of the swing. Get that then add body if you start pull/pull hooking it. Watch: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Snap driver from the top and get it hooking. Once you can do that then switch to body to straighten it out. You are trying to snap and hit it perfectly. This won't work cause you would always have to think of snapping. Need to overdo it and hook it.
Finally ... I was waiting for you to get it. Now you know what I am after do the daily practice swings. Keep going so you get used to it. Great golf is in your future.
@@paulwilsongolf thank you! I will work the drills and continue to enjoy my game and the real improvements I have seen...and will likely continue to see.
Many years ago, my brother told me to hit the ball with my practice swing. When I would stand behind the ball and swing a few times, it was effortless and the club would snap like you describe. However, once I got over the ball, I would tense up and grip the club too tightly and there was no telling where the ball would go. Now, I work in a good waggle to get my grip set but keep my wrists loose. I will actually exhale before starting the club back and make an effort not to tense up my grip and chest muscles. I've actually said, "La-de-da" to stay loose. When the club snaps and the ball takes off, it's magical.
He meant well but didn't give you the whole picture. Here is why you couldn't do it with the ball. ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html Love the fact you got it now. Not hitting is a huge key. Glad you figured it out. I would watch this: ruclips.net/video/gIp4ifKuZIw/видео.html
Have been experiencing this lately. By coincidence I hit the ball much better and further after hinging those wrists I've noticed. Just what I needed to hear- here. Thanks for explaining the benefits so well.
Very good. Well the release is a huge part of the swing. This gives you the clubhead speed and obviously squares the face. This is where I start with students. I want them hinging it the rolling the wrists to get every ball hooking. Once they can do that the arm unit is working so I switch to body rotation to straighten it out. Literally 2 steps. So keep doing what you are doing with the wrists but be aware that you need to add the body for direction. Watch: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Great. This is a huge piece of the swing. Get this and you can literally take your swing to a whole new level. Once you get it start switching to legs and hips.
I cannot believe how easy it is to swing turning off the arms, but it took me ages to understand what you were saying, even though English is my fist language, this addition makes perfect sense. 😊
Glad you finally go it. Keep watching all of my tips and it will keep making even more sense. Watch this first: ruclips.net/video/o8ACrKPrOyk/видео.html
Paul, since incorporating this tips with loose writs, your grip, and firing the hips, my last 3 rounds have been under 90. That has never happend before. Also last night i played 9 holes and had 5 birdie opportunities. BTW then theres putting!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!
That's great. Heading in the right direction is a great feeling. Putting is simple. You need to be target oriented. Imagine a ball in your bottom hand. Thumb straight down the flat surface of the grip. Feel like you are throwing the ball at the target. Practice only long putts 30+ feet and 6 feet or less. That's it. Do that you will be great.
I work on this snapping feeling constantly.....once in awhile i lose it.....then go get my "swing rite trainer"....and instantly get back to that wrist snap!....you cannot swing that thing and trigger device w/o that wrist snap right at impact....great device!
I kinda stumbled on this recently and was amazed at the results. It seems so much golf instruction involves telling you NOT to snap your wrist or hinge at the beginning of the backswing. So I got fed up one day and just said to myself "hinge the wrist at the backswing and see what happens" and then BOOM I eventually felt a feeling I'd never felt with my irons before. I had absolutely bombed my 7-iron inexplicably. Want to know what else? by making the L-shape with my wrists, my shoulders magically got a great turn and felt powerful. Want to know what else? I was actually hitting my 4-iron (my hardest club) solidly. It's not perfect yet, but it feels so right when I do it. If anyone is telling you the swing doesn't involve wrists, it's all hips and shoulders then please try Paul's tip. I plan to keep practicing it and snapping my wrists.
Glad you tried it and are seeing results. Yes, it is truly amazing the different opinions on the swing out there. For those not wanting you to do this I guess they would rather you continue to have locked wrists with an open face hitting it nowhere. I will never teach that. Loose wrists and power it with your body. Simple and effective. So effective you can do it for life. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video !! Why most of teachers lead their student to a one-piece take-away which made them struggling with their hips, lower back and so on, without any rhythm ? I play since 1991 and I initiate my swing with my wrists ( Justin Rose does it). It gives tempo and allows a great effortless acceleration. Re-hinging naturally happens. The secret is in the loose wrists but many pros call it flipping and avoid to teach. That’s not flipping , that’s using the elementary biomechanics principles!! Thanks to share.
@@paulwilsongolf , yes Sir! It’s not a flip because there’s also a rotational motion of the body with your method. I do appreciate your points of view about an efficient swing which doesn’t hurt and gives such a great pleasure . The aim is to enjoy the game, isn’t it??
Sensation of snapping wrists while swinging golf club = good, sensation of snapping wrists while skateboarding = bad. Love the tips Paul, I'm working diligently to improve my swing, thanks for all you do!
I just practiced this tip in my backyard and i can feel how the club whips more at the bottom of my swing instead of me swinging as hard as i can from to top and the club whipping more at the top. Almost like snapping a whip. I hope this helps with my distance and contact. Ive always been very tense in my driver swing and have lost all confidence in my driving ability or lack there of.
Glad you liked it. Thanks. As for the left arm you do not have to keep it straight. This is what is wrecking people's golf swings. The try to force is straight and lock everything up. There have been tons of pros who bent the arm. Jack, Freddie, Watson, Daly. Oh yeah look who's dominating the men's tour right now. Scottie Scheffler. Big break in his arm. So watch this then never try to force you arm straight ever again: ruclips.net/video/1TiT0C8XF2U/видео.html
As Paul says, it takes work to get it right. But when you do, that snap makes the most wonderful ball compression sound you've ever heard and most beautiful ball flight you've ever seen - and all so effortlessly. It's that momentary essence of golf that keeps you hooked.
Exactly, this is a piece of the swing. A very important piece. Without this you will hit it nowhere. So everyone needs to put in a little work and get used to a few new moves and feelings. Once they do they too will hit it longer and better than ever.
I was shown this by my local coach. Works wonders for my wedges and short irons, and even improves loft. Word of caution on the longer irons though. Its a lot of movement on a longer club and harder to be accurate.
What you are missing is you are not doing this purposely forever. You are doing it until you get rid of slice spin, get great power and contact. At this point you remember this feeling as you switch to hitting it with the legs and hips with the arms turned off completely (powerless). At this point if you are not trying to hit or help the ball you are not manipulating the clubface so it is amazingly consistent.
Once you get every ball hooking you switch to firing your lower body. You watch your ball as you do. Fire a little legs and hips. As you do the ball will go less left. So you take note of that. Fire a little more and it it getting closer to the target. Fire too hard it goes right of target so you need to slow down. Once you figure out how much legs and hips you need to hit it straight you memorize this and keep applying it to all shots. Literally within 10 shots you should be hitting it dead straight. If you totally lose it, go back to hooking it.
Fantastic! Those are the thoughts. Just let it go. Too many people just whacking away at it. If it was the way the great majority would be good players. Glad you see it. Stay loose!
Glad you like them. Thanks. Snap until you no longer put slice spin on your shots. Once you can do that you are firing your body to hit the ball. Fire your body = no flip. People are flipping because they are only using their arms not their body. Hopefully, you have been doing this drill daily: ruclips.net/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/видео.html
@@paulwilsongolf Firing the hip (for me the left one) has been an eye opener for me. For years my hips faced the ball at impact. Getting separation has paid off for my ball striking. Thanks again for all the tips - so helpful.
this is correct golf distance in wrist i am parlized waist down still hitting par 4's at club the first whole is over 461 yards at back tees i can hit green from normal tees just cause i cocking wrist..but since i been watching you i am in the 70's now i have shot par rounds i think this is year i become a scratch golfer again since i crushed my spine in accident
Sorry to hear about your injury. So glad you are still able to play golf. You are proof that it is in your wrists. This gives you the power and quite a lot. You get a little more if you use your body but it would not be double. I would say 30% more. So for most people who are just hitting with arms they need to loosen the wrists so they get the power. If so, anyone can hit the ball well.
The weird thing is that snapping the wrists FEELS slow to me but the ball goes so much further. I couldn't believe it but it's hard to replicate (for me). The key is to make sure I hinge but keep it loose in the downswing to let it release naturally. It feels slow because I'm not FORCING anything which is counter-intuitive.
Whatever you are doing it great. Obviously you see that it works. Just do it daily in practice swings. Also, keep in mind you should be doing it and getting every ball too hook. Too many people try to always hit perfect shots. So some they hook. Some straight. Some sliced. Well, that is not consistent. Why not hook every ball? Then it is working every time. You get used to it and train the wrists to release every time. This is half. Once you can do that you move to the other half. Direction. This is body. So you already know you are going to release it. You feel this snap through impact. You THINK about the legs and hips to start down. So you hit the top and fire the legs (arms are turned off). Then you FEEL it release. Watch: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html Think about it. Everyone is working on stuff trying to hit every shot perfectly. It takes 2 things to hit it on line (leaving out contact for this example). You have spin and direction. Get the spin first. Master it. Then you know what the ball is going to do before you even do it. Then you move to body to straighten it out. It is that simple. Think about what I said. Let it sink in.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks for this Paul. I have been really struggling with my swing and I needed to hear that. The next time I play I will try to draw every ball.
Well, don't wait. Literally do daily practice swings at home. Then when you get to the range you may already be doing it so then you can add body right away to straigthen it out. Doesn't take long. Watch me in action: ruclips.net/video/q5RojTx5sHI/видео.html This is a good on you could be doing too: ruclips.net/video/7olBqwXF3Ik/видео.html ruclips.net/video/vpyg3PkrAkk/видео.html ruclips.net/video/GnQ2FfdQBDo/видео.html These reference slicing but it's the same thing.
I finally got into a groove at my last driving range session with the wrist snapping action. I wasn't even trying to swing hard and I was crushing everything pure. It was kinda scary, it felt like I unlocked some kind of cheat code with how well I was hitting the ball.
Very good. Glad you slowed down and got it. Stay focused. This is a piece of the swing. There is also the body. So keep working on this until mastered. How do you know it's mastered? You rarely hit slices.
Just to add, I am hitting my irons with confidence and with the distances I had 30 years ago. I smile inwardly when the younger players tell me my swing looks great, I have picked ul swing speed and I'm hitting great shots too.
Great feeling when you keep up to younger players and they comment on your swing. Seems like you are on track. Just keep doing daily practice swings at home (no ball) and keep trying to make the positions and movements more and more perfect.
Paul, I am excited that the question mark, gave me a club and a half more distance. I have a sleeve of 23 balls, that I hit here on the "Five Iron Ranch" , in Florida. After my first sleeve of hitting into my paddocks, I barely hooked the first few, but the rest went dead straight, for the most part. My left foot, after a few swings, leaves an inditation on the grass, and after a sleeve, the grass becomes dirt. I believe because of my weight getting to left side, is why I didn't hook much? I hit 5 sleeves yesterday, and after the 3rd, and watching your "Snap the wrists", was amazed how straight the ball flight is...... Thank you so much! Awaiting daylight to hit some more...... Retired and 64... John
Glad you found me and are working on it. The snap is a big part of the swing. When you do it I would be doing it sooner from the top and get it hooking. This is step 1 fixing the spin. If you can hook every ball you then switch to body to straighten it out. So you feel the snap but you think about the legs and hips. In your case you are hitting is straight which is great. I just want you to be b able to switch to thinking about the legs and hips in the future. Right now you are thinking snap to hit it straight so can you ever stop thinking about it and still hit it straight? Most can't. When they stop thinking about it they blow it right. So roll early and get it hooking. See this as half right. You have the spin. Then switch to legs and hips. I have tons of tips on how to use them.

Paul, thanks for the tip, always great to see new videos from you. There are times when I was just doing practice swings, trying to hinge and rehinge, and that feeling of a snap was present. I was afraid that I was using too much arms so I then backed off. When practicing, do you try and snap at full speed or do you just let it snap naturally?
As you are learning it you are snapping it and getting used to it. You could try some at varying speeds. If you were just standing around on a tee deck lets say you would be doing it slow so you remember the feeling and keep the wrists loose. Then as you step up you use your body and let the release happen. Keep in mind if you snap too much you will hook it. This is a good thing. Get hooking it consistently then the wrists are working so you would be switching to body to straighten it out.
I had a lesson a while ago, and the Pro was getting me to "exit left". Which I believe was keeping the face sqaurer for longer, which would kind of be the opposite to snapping on a dime.. I guess there's a balance. Exiting left and keeping the face sqaurer for longer probably relies on a decent amount of body speed... Passed your channel onto a beginner today suggesting you have the simplest, best instructionals in RUclips. I do feel though snapping wrists can introduce a lot of variables.
I tried the exit left swing 20 years ago. I couldn't keep it out of the parking lot on the right. Yes the problem with that swing is you need a lot of hip rotation which the average person cannot and will never do. Also, is that swing dominating on tour. No. This is why I will never teach that swing. Plus, it gets you super tilted with right side bend at impact. Imaging doing that when you are 70. Yeah right.b Just let the arms go. No power. Fire the body and wherever the arms go they go. Powerless arms. If you do this you are not manipulating the face which make is super consistent too. The hold off left is you holding it off. What if you don't hold it off and turn though?
Thanks for the tip. Watched this 3 times. So does the snapping action occur just before or just after impact with the ball? Newish golfer here so prone to asking dumb questions. The golf swing happens so quickly it's hard to get a true picture, in my case.
That's okay. I want people to snap it early and get it hooking. If you do you will be doing it 100% of the time. If you try to do it just before you hit the ball you make do it 50% of the time and blow it right 50% of the time. I like 100%. So you do it from the top. Once you can hook about 10 in a row you remember the feeling but switch to firing your lower body. This will straighten it out. Watch: ruclips.net/video/RdphthCQ9VM/видео.html
Paul, You have a distinctive move with (I think) your hands in the first 8 inches of your downswing. It kind of mesmerizes me and I would love to know what it is your doing. I have slowed the videos down to try to learn what that initial motion is but to know avail. Could you please describe what it is you’re doing.

Great man Paul thanks for all your feed. I like to see you upload a video of you playing your course. Like a shot by shot video. It can only be front 9 only. 😂
Why would you want a strong grip after doing this? You keep a strong grip and roll it you will probably smother hook everything. See what happens when you add body but I think it's going to be too much hook. I don't teach a strong grip. Not necessary with my technique. Here is my neutral grip tip: ruclips.net/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/видео.html A tiny bit stronger than that is fine and will give you a slight draw. If you have a huge hook and you are not trying to hook it then you have a grip problem.
that feeling saved me. people want to HIT the ball like a nail with hammer when the felling has nothing to do with HIT but with THROWING the club as if you wanned it to fly the longest possible in the air AND rotating on himself as much as possible BUT NOT LOOSING DISTANCE FLY ! because you will try to have the club rotating ON ITSELF as much as possible but GOING THE LONGEST POSSIBLE at the same time, this produce a very round and shallow down swing while an elongated elipse will follow trought very low after the ball contact and you HAVE to be tension free th THROW it's harder to have this mental stat on HITTING stuff.
great video... when I do this in front of my instructor...he saids I am trying to scoop it. How do I correct the scoop but still snap my wrists? I am having a problem getting this .
Your instructor is trying to get you to hit it straight in one step which will never happen. You are doing this to purposely hook it getting rid of all slice spin. At this point you are doing half right. He sees this as bad. I see this as great. Now you have half just need to get the other half. This is s body rotation. Still feel the release but think about firing the lower. So you hit the top then fire the hips. If they move first you hit it dead straight. Wrists - spin body = direction. Just need to see it differently. Watch me do it in the second video on this page. Scroll down to it: www.paulwilsongolf.com/cure-slice
Well you are not snapping then coming back with your hand as you would a towel or whip. It is them crossing over which give you the feeling. It's pretty unmistakable. Loose wrists and snap.
I have your original 2002 edition of Swing Machine Golf. Are the principles in that book consistent with your Body Swing Golf ? Or, has anything changed?
They are similar but I added new things that people kept asking me about over the years. I got it down to 4 positions plus they are in HD (this was not available back when I shot SMG). Those who have both say they compliment each other. I would agree.
Hi Paul. This drill has me striking the ball the best ever. Question, when I start hooking, which is my bad shot, am I not moving the body fast enough?
Great to hear. This is a huge piece of the swing. If you are hooking your wrists are working. Switch to firing the body. If you body moves first in the downswing you will hit it dead straight. Most popular trigger: ruclips.net/video/RdphthCQ9VM/видео.html

Another great tip Paul… in the UK we are now looking at 8 degrees c sometimes not rising at all. Any advice on staying loose and keeping the feel. I never use a glove above 16 degrees. In winter just so I can play use winter gloves but all the feel goes.
Well, it's tough in cold weather. That is why I'm a fair weather teacher and player. Ha. There is no real secret to playing in winter climates other than swing easy. Swinging hard is tough if you are tight and all wrapped up. The wrists must remain super loose to give you clubhead speed while turning your body not quite as fast as when you have less layers. It is the same swing but you might not be able to do it with the range of warmer climates.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks for that and it is the same for the rest of the field. Also you talk about managing expectations and factor in your shots are a club down due to the low temperature and generally high humidity. So quite a different game
Thanks - I'm one of your followers for a long time too. Question - do you play without a glove? I usually do as I feel it helps me not squeeze to tightly
Thanks for the support. I haven't used a glove since I was 16. I was going through a glove a week and couldn't afford them. I use tour wrap grips which is quite tacky. If you want to use one feel free.
The problem is you are just like everyone else dwelling on the negative instead of seeing the positive. Every time you pull hook it you need to be jumping up and doing saying YES! HALF RIGHT! You released the club and did not hit the ball with slice spin. SPIN is half. DIRECTION is the other. If you want to do it in 3rds then add CONTACT. So 3 parts to a shot. For this example just think of it in 2 parts. Work on contact once you get the first 2. So wrists affect spin. Body affects direction. Let's say you rolled the wrists and hooked 1,000 balls in a row. High probability you would hook ball 1,001 right? So if I knew the ball was going to hook before you hit it why would I tell you to roll your wrists? This means you mastered half. Now, you remember this feeling of releasing it as you switch your focus on firing your hips. So the first shot you give it a little hips and watch your balls. Now instead of it pull hooking 50 yards left it pull hooks 25. Great. You are getting closer to straight but it still started left. So this tells you you need to fire your legs and hips quicker. So you try again but a little quicker. Now you're 10 yards left. Almost perfect but need to go even quicker. Now you fire super quick and blow it right. This too quick you need to slow down. Understand? The all will tell you exactly what to do. Watch: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html So understand what I am saying. See it differently. Then you will know exactly what to look for and what do it.
i took on the body swing.. It helps like a car that wears our all the parts evenly, instead of breaking down one body part, like the lumbar (lower back/sciatic pain)... I know its separate nerves but still

Hey Paul, another great video. I've learned to play this great game from watching your tips. I've gotten to the point I am hitting my PW to 8 iron(old lofts, a 41 degree 8i) fantastic , hinging and rehinging and am supremely confident from 130 yards and in that I will hit the green. Playing with a few lower handicaps recently and was every bit their equal in this yardage range now thanks to what I've learned watching your videos and I'm just now hitting a full year of playing. Consciously hooking the ball is a great drill to help straighten out driver, I need to keep working at it so I can keep these tee shots in bounds so my best front 9 of 39 can turn into every round of sub 80 golf!
Wow that's great for how little time you've been playing. You are on your way for sure. See the rolling wrists and fixing a part of the swing (spin). Just do this daily at home. This is really no more than a few dedicated sessions to master it because it feels so weird versus not rolling. So as you keep rolling it you need to memorize the feels so you can do it without thinking about it. I have literally had people memorize this in 4 repetitions (no joke). So you focus on the spin. If you try to do this on the range though you will hit everything left and be in trouble. That's why you need to get this quickly. Do it at home in practice swings. When you play you are thinking body. Coil/uncoil. Then you watch your ball and it will tell you what to do. If you want to get both while you play before each shot you roll 3 -5 times. Then you are repeating the roll all day and the feeling is fresh on your mind for each shot. You then step up to the ball and think coil/uncoil. As you hit your shot, you watch your ball. DO NOT dwell on the negative. If it pull hooks that is half right (spin). If you push it that is also half right (direction inside out swing path). The objective is to master 1 of these. Then you are only ever thinking about the other. So you need to memorize how much leg drive do you need to hit it straight. That is what you are watching when you hit every shot. So focus on the roll as I said. Master this then you never have to work on it again. Once you can do that you are only ever thinking of the body.
Not sure. Try it. I like those for the backswing. You can still do a bad swing with those things as shown in their infomercial a long time ago so although it does help with certain things don't think it's necessarily going to give you a perfect swing.
You are snapping to get it snapping. I would prefer you doing it early and hooking it. If so, you are mastering the release. Once you can hook numerous shots in a row then you remember this feeling as you switch to firing your lower body to straighten it out. No sense snapping it and one goes left, the other right, then next one straight. If so, you are not doing anything consistently. Get them all going left then straighten it out. Too many people are working on things and keep trying to hit every ball straight. This is never going to happen. Over do it. Get it then add the other half. Here is how to do it: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html

Do you ever teach trying to brake or try and stop the swing at impact to increase speed at impact. Loose wrists and just try to stop you can't but it increases solid power at the right time.
Never taught that. Not sure why that would work. To stop it you would need to lock your arms which is not the thought I want people to have. Send me the link to a video of someone explain it.
@@paulwilsongolf the point is you cannot stop it. But the handle stops but the club head speeds up. Just a drill don't need a ball either. Kind of like a punch shot. Not something I would teach to most golfers. More like a punch shot for driving through the wind. Ill send a link to who I learned it from. One of my first teachers. He's from our town. l
Thank you Paul For the great lessons you give us,. I have a Question about our Golf course Golf Range.we have Mat's I'm trying to figure out how we know we are getting a Ball strike with a divot.what can we do on mat's hitting Golf ball's should I tee it up?.thank you Paul..by the way you have a great name.
Well you can tee it up if you can. This stops people from hitting the mat and have it radiating up their arms. There's not real way to make sure you are making perfect contact other than the pure sound of a well hit golf shot. Some mats you can see the dust blow up after impact. Just keep working on the positions and movements. As you learn them you really stop caring if you are on mats or not.
Went to range today after watching 10 of your videos...im a 9 handicap..playing for years...but now 66...and searching for help......after watching the videos....the main idea is to take the focus of the arms and hit out of swing....the body/hips are the swing generator and the arms transfer this power by a "cracking the whip"!...type of action....i hit 2 buckets....focusing on standing tall to ball.....letting head move....and not looking at shot until after the arms have released at least to 3 oclock position....tried looking at label on ball...on address..then seeing more on backswing the keep looking at it until release done.....ive come to my own conclusions....1....you must maintain a smooth tempo...cannot aggressively swing....only can swing as fast as you can only to maintain balance!....if you overdo it...all is lost...you lock up...stand up lose your spine angle...over...2...keeping eye/head on ball post impact/release ....(2 feet) past ball until 3 oclock...keeps your spine angle tilted....now when i see the ball it is with and angled head and eye line...and i know i hit a good shot because i pick up the ball as its rising just about to reach its apex....and then start down ...ball flight amazing....also amazing is i grt a small divot....but 50% of time i just sweep grass...zero divot...but hit solid.....my arms are like ropes...this is key....the hips must turn back and thru...with the turn thru...controlling the shot...the head must stay down to see impact...and let club release to a full follow thru...this helps you maintain spine angle to see the shot thru a pga tour perspective...the head is tilted....no doubt...if you have a balanced follow thru...99%of the time ...your shot is pure...the real focus is making my arms feel like ropes/firing my hips/ and keeping my head looking at ball post release to maintain spine angle and seeing that ball just about at apex!....a bad shot usually is from trying to hard to hit with arms....swinging to hard....and seeing the ball flight thtu horizontal eyeline==== you stood up on the ball!....after 2 buckets not bad!....more buckets to come!....thank you.
Yes, no hitting. Allow the mass (club) to swing wherever it wants. Then you are not twisting the face hitting everywhere. Crack the whip is a good analogy for sure. This is speed. You are on your way. When I work with people and they start too loosen up I tell them it is 10x looser than that. So keep that in mind that you are getting a looser feeling because you've been tight. It is way looser than you think. In no way do I try to hit or help the shot with my arms. I just let them go.
Hello. I am a Norwegian man 73 years old, and I have struggled with slice in many years. Now I think I am more or less free for it. I have seen a lot of your videos, and I think all of them is intersting. About the drill "snap your wrists" are you shallowing the club?
Glad you found me and are working on it. I am not purposely shallowing the club. It shallows due to simple physics. Watch: ruclips.net/video/cogyf6UjH7U/видео.html
Tried this in the range today Paul BEFORE I watched this. Was getting some great strikes with irons but I hooked a few too. If you go at it too much aren't you in danger of turning the face over to close at impact ? Lovin your vids by the way 👍
You don't see it. I guess the tips I have coming up will explain it to everyone. You are seeing the bad in the shot. I am seeing the good. Huge difference. To me the wrists would be working (pull pull hook) body not working because those shots are a direction problem not a spin problem. See it now? So what do you need to do to hit it dead straight? Roll and snap and loosen until you rarely ever put slice spin on it. At this point you have mastered half (wrists). So you would then be working on body (direction). Keep your eye out for some of my future tips. I will become crystal clear what you need to do and how you need to see it.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks for that. Look forward to future videos on this. For someone who faded the ball seeing it go the other way was quite exciting even if I could not be sure what shot shape was coming.
The thing people are missing is that you need to get something as opposed to nothing. This means people are always trying to work on something and hit perfect shots. Sometimes you need to over do things to get it. So for you get used to hooking it by rolling it early. When you hit your shot watch the spin. FORGET DIRECTION. Once you get every ball hooking you then remember this feeling so you can switch to your legs and hips to straighten it out. See it now? Work on it in 2 steps instead of trying to get it in 1 step (which will never work). Wait for my next tips. This will clarify.
Hi Paul. Excellent description. I'm quite familiar with the snapping sensation with my irons. Should it feel the same with the driver? I'm having some difficulty reproducing it there.

@@paulwilsongolf Thank you Paul very much! Have a great weekend bud! I really can’t thank u enough. I had 3 back surgeries and and FAI surgery on my hip in the last 10 yrs and I’m only 41. The hip was done last December. It’s tough stopping and starting golf as I have. I used to shoot low 80’s. Now I’m just having my swing fall after starting off well this season. I can’t thank you enough for providing me with knowledge. God bless u sir
That's tough when you have body issues but use the looseness of the wrists for power. I just had a paralyzed commenter reply to my last tip and with loose wrists he hits it a long way. For you just ease into it so you don't tweak anything. Super loose wrists and coil/uncoil at a pace you can handle. Hit fairways and greens then as you get it decide if you want more but confidence alone will get you the power into the future.
@@paulwilsongolf yes sir and thank u again. Wish I was in Vegas because I would def stop by to shake your hand and get some hands on advice. I can hit the ball well, but just recently I completely lost it and now I toe all my irons. Ppl I play with say I swing like Freddie Couples which is such a huge compliment I am grateful for. I just need to get back to puring those irons. It’s the same thing in every iron so it shouldn’t be too hard to fix. Once I get that I’m gonna flick my wrist and see what kinda yardage I gain. Not that I don’t already, but the way u have me practicing in my home I can hear the woosh sound much more louder. Thanks
Sounds like your grip is a little too strong. Strong grip loose wrists = hook. You want the loose wrists so you can get power for life. So I would make the grip a little more neutral. This will allow you to have loose wrists and get a little draw. Then you need to fire the lower body first in the downswing so it doesn't start left. Watch: ruclips.net/video/FOB9geBbyFA/видео.html Also, watch this: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Your seeing things. My lead arm is extended to the 3/4 back point. From there to the top it breaks a little. I never what people to force this arm straight. If you do, you might locked your wrists. Extended but not locked.
It definitely takes practice but the results are very obvious Im a naturally genetic muscular guy played many sports but when i try to hit harder i do everything wrong and actually lose distance this is a great simple technique to keep from muscling the club
So when you feel this snapping moment in the swing, where is the clubhead and where is the ball? In other words is ball contact just before, just at or just after the "snap" feeling?
Quit over analyzing it. Snap it before you hit the ball and hook every shot. Once you can do that it is working. Once it is working then switch to firing your lower body to straighten it out. As you do the drill you will feel where it snaps. Then you are watching your ball to see if you are doing it early enough. Slicing is too late. I want it hooking.
So I'm little worried about my arms becoming engaged again by doing this. I started by turning the arms 100% off. That tooks awhile, but is really working. But I could use some more distance with the wrist engagement.
If you will swing a alignment stick or just swing the butt end of a club and keep at it until you get that loud swish sound at the bottom of the swing you are then in that snap or speed zone and the faster you swing the louder the swish sound.
@@paulwilsongolf Swinging a alignment stick or a club upside down trains you to swing faster and the sound feedback that increases with speed is a very helpful gage of your progress as the sound pitch increases as the speed increases,it works for me and most of my clients.Of course some of them need a brain transplant.
I want you snapping before impact. If so you will hook it. This is half right. Your wrists are working. Once you can do that you switch to firing the lower body. This straightens it out. Too many people want everything all at once so they never get anything. Get half. Then get the other half. ruclips.net/video/1EC_zeepcr8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/RdphthCQ9VM/видео.html
@@paulwilsongolf Yeah, naturally swing with a strong grip and changing it cost me accuracy and massive distance lost. Changing my grip is not an option. I just learned to keep the face more square through the ball before forearm rotation and my shots are dead straight now. No need to play a fade or draw, just straight now. Thank you for your help, you helped me pay more attention to grip wrist relationship. With a strong grip I can load and hinge my lead wrist a lot more. My driver distance is over 300 yards every hit, but I could never get near that with neutral… also felt like I had more variables in the timing of the swing with a neutral/weak grip… guess I’m just weird lol.
Biggest lightbulb moment for being "loose" came from swinging a club around at night. No ball, just holding it in my hands and slowly going through the motions. Keyword is slowly there. The slower you bring it back, the more you will realize what is happening. Thanks Paul.
Very good. People are starting to get it. Get the looseness and it's a whole new game. Practice swings at home is the best way. No ball means no hitting. Keep at it.
@@paulwilsongolf Yes and ALIGNMENT, ALIGNMENT, ALIGNMENT. I can't tell you how many people I watch daily on my course, that don't even stand behind the ball pre-shot!! It is astounding! If they did this, it would force them to correct mistakes naturally IMO. The day I focused on alignment, was the day I discovered the true nature of golf.
Snap, crackle, and pop are the 4th, 5th, & 6th derivatives of position with respect to time. Velocity, acceleration, and jerk are the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. So if you really want to generate some clubhead speed, put some pop in it!
@@paulwilsongolf An attempt to combine physics, calculus, and golf into humor. In physics, the rate of change of position with respect to time is called velocity or speed and calculating this change in calculus can be called the first derivative, the change in the rate of speed with respect to time can be called the second derivative or acceleration. Changing the rate of acceleration is called the jerk, or third derivative. More commonly known as a breakfast cereal, snap, crackle, and pop are the fourth, fifth, and sixth derivatives. So if snapping your wrists is a good thing if you can put some pop into your swing, you're really going to get that clubhead moving! Seriously, I do get a lot of benefit from your instruction and it has helped my swing and thanks for that, but 40 years of bad habits tends to overwhelm the positive changes I'm trying to make. Please keep up the good work as it is not only instructive but entertaining as well.
Kind of figured that but I am all ears for new ideas or things I haven't thought of. The problem with you physics guys is you make everything to complicated. You need to see it in the most simple terms. Watch and listen carefully to what he says: ruclips.net/video/uEpnY-5yNbs/видео.html This is why I keep things simple.
You want the wrist cupped. You need to watch this: ruclips.net/video/uRWI8Mhnsa8/видео.html Snap it from the top before impact. Get it hooking. Once you can do that you have half right. Then you switch to body rotation to straighten it out. Watch this tip: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
I have been following body swing since 2019 was a 15 hcp- thanks to Paul I am a 6hcp and if there was a body swing putt style I would be much lower - can’t put
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. That's a big drop in handicap. I do have putting tips on my membership site but no so much on youtube. If you are a poor putting you are thinking about your stroke. Putting is simple. You need to be target oriented. Imagine a ball in your bottom hand. Thumb straight down the flat surface of the grip. Feel like you are throwing the ball at the target. Practice only long putts 30+ feet and 6 feet or less. That's it. Do that you will be great.
I am a racquetball player and have just taken up golf, (74 years old). In racquetball, if you do not 'cock' and snap your wrist at point of impact, you will generate no racquet speed, hence no power. I have applied Paul Wilson's wrist action in golf and my club speed has increased a lot which results in greater distances with all my clubs. It does take time to develop and my best additional tip, (transferred from racquetball0, is to try your best to watch the club hit the ball as your snap your wrists. For senior golfers this is one of the best tips to stay competitive with the younger players.
No roll it from the top. Get it hooking. What would you rather do hook it or slice it? Once you do that you switch to body to straighten it out. Everyone keep trying to hit everything perfect. Why not get half then get the other half? I get unreal results in minutes.
@@paulwilsongolf I’d rather slice it. I was just trying to get a little more speed. I carry the ball approximately 265 yards. Thanks, Paul. I think you provide really great content. Keep it up!
Yeah but you still release it hitting a slice/fade. You get that shape with set up not holding it off. So the flip is just the club releasing at impact instead of after impact. To get rid of a flip you add body rotation. That moves the release point forward.
After watching, not sure I heard how to do it...
This guy is the real deal, especially for us senior golfers.
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support. I truly appreciate it.
Hello Paul - in my 76th year you have shown me how to hit some of the best shots of my life with more consistency. I play 6100 yards and currently carry an 11 handicap. Thank you, sir - your Body Swing Course is excellent.
Thanks for the kind words and support. I appreciate it. So glad you are doing well and hitting great shots.
Who invented the "Rule of 85" ? If your age plus your handicap is 85 or greater you need to play from the front tees.

Great tips Paul, so many videos are confusing but yours are straight forward and relevant for a senior golfer like me. Thanks!!
Glad you like them. Simple is the key. Got to keep the student in mind.
Keep at it.
I snap it left it's hard to be consistent it's all timeing
Don't dwell on the negative. Snapping is left is half right. What do you want to do blow it right? Doubt it. So you have half. You just need the other half. Watch:

This is pure gold...its automatic for me with irons..unfortunately with driver my swing is stiffer until I remember to loosen the wrists to release..
Snap driver from the top and get it hooking. Once you can do that then switch to body to straighten it out. You are trying to snap and hit it perfectly. This won't work cause you would always have to think of snapping. Need to overdo it and hook it.

Exactly. Works great. Keep on snapping!
Exactly. I am going to keep teaching loose wrists. In no way is this a flip and it's what gives you the power. Glad you see it.
@@paulwilsongolf , yes Sir! It’s not a flip because there’s also a rotational motion of the body with your method. I do appreciate your points of view about an efficient swing which doesn’t hurt and gives such a great pleasure . The aim is to enjoy the game, isn’t it??
It sure is. Too many people out there that just need to try something different. Get used to it. Then serious improve their games.
Sensation of snapping wrists while swinging golf club = good, sensation of snapping wrists while skateboarding = bad. Love the tips Paul, I'm working diligently to improve my swing, thanks for all you do!
For sure. Haven't been on a skateboard in a while. Brings back memories. Keep at it.
I tried Paul's way and it works. I hit consitent shot very far!
Glad you tried it and are seeing results. Thanks.
This is the feeling. Keep doing it every night until you are used to it. Also watch some of my tips and the hips and you should improve dramatically.
This should be every beginners first lesson!
Yes, after the grip lesson.

Thanks so much.
Great instruction - anyone questioning …. watch Tiger and Jack, this is exactly how they release the club
Glad you like it. Thanks.
Hello, Great instruction! How do I keep the left arm from bending on the backswing when trying to keep the arms loose?
Glad you liked it. Thanks. As for the left arm you do not have to keep it straight. This is what is wrecking people's golf swings. The try to force is straight and lock everything up. There have been tons of pros who bent the arm. Jack, Freddie, Watson, Daly. Oh yeah look who's dominating the men's tour right now. Scottie Scheffler. Big break in his arm. So watch this then never try to force you arm straight ever again: ruclips.net/video/1TiT0C8XF2U/видео.html
Good advice!!!
Glad you liked it. This is a big part of the swing. This is not the whole swing. This is a piece. Get this then add body to fix your direction.
At this point if you are not trying to hit or help the ball you are not manipulating the clubface so it is amazingly consistent.
excellent advice - thanks Paul
Glad it was helpful! This is a big part of the swing.
How to learn or perfect the timing of the snap? Especially on the driver.
Paul, I had a two inch tap in birdie yesterday using your swing. Loose arms, loose wrists, bingo!!! Thank you!!
Fantastic! Those are the thoughts. Just let it go. Too many people just whacking away at it. If it was the way the great majority would be good players. Glad you see it. Stay loose!
Another great tip!! Youre the best!!!
Thanks. Glad you liked it. This one is huge.
Appreciate the this drill and all the others. Very helpful! One question - snap versus wrist flip. Please advise.
Glad you like them. Thanks. Snap until you no longer put slice spin on your shots. Once you can do that you are firing your body to hit the ball. Fire your body = no flip. People are flipping because they are only using their arms not their body. Hopefully, you have been doing this drill daily:

@@paulwilsongolf Firing the hip (for me the left one) has been an eye opener for me. For years my hips faced the ball at impact. Getting separation has paid off for my ball striking. Thanks again for all the tips - so helpful.
Yes, this is the missing piece and few are talking about it even less are working on it. Get this and you whole game changes. Keep at it.
this is correct golf distance in wrist i am parlized waist down still hitting par 4's at club the first whole is over 461 yards at back tees i can hit green from normal tees just cause i cocking wrist..but since i been watching you i am in the 70's now i have shot par rounds i think this is year i become a scratch golfer again since i crushed my spine in accident
Hands are important especially for seniors who cant turn. Lots of club head speed! Thanks
They sure are. Well, not hands. I would say loose wrists.
Well if the ball is going farther you are doing it right so keep at it for sure.
Watch:
ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Think about it.
Watch me in action:

Best teacher going .....
Thanks for the support. I truly appreciate it.

This is similar to the teaching of the Swedish pro Marcus Edblad. He speaks about right hand fast - left hand slow. Worth a look.
Seen him before.
Watch:
ruclips.net/video/RdphthCQ9VM/видео.html
Trying this next!
Yes, this is a huge piece of the swing that will fix your spin. Remember though, you then need to work on direction to straighten it out.
Paul, You have a distinctive move with (I think) your hands in the first 8 inches of your downswing. It kind of mesmerizes me and I would love to know what it is your doing. I have slowed the videos down to try to learn what that initial motion is but to know avail.

Hi Paul!, does this works with a strong grip?!
Why would you want a strong grip after doing this? You keep a strong grip and roll it you will probably smother hook everything. See what happens when you add body but I think it's going to be too much hook. I don't teach a strong grip. Not necessary with my technique. Here is my neutral grip tip:
ruclips.net/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/видео.html
A tiny bit stronger than that is fine and will give you a slight draw. If you have a huge hook and you are not trying to hook it then you have a grip problem.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks !!! I'll check it out!
that feeling saved me.
people want to HIT the ball like a nail with hammer when the felling has nothing to do with HIT but with THROWING the club as if you wanned it to fly the longest possible in the air AND rotating on himself as much as possible BUT NOT LOOSING DISTANCE FLY ! because you will try to have the club rotating ON ITSELF as much as possible but GOING THE LONGEST POSSIBLE at the same time, this produce a very round and shallow down swing while an elongated elipse will follow trought very low after the ball contact and you HAVE to be tension free th THROW it's harder to have this mental stat on HITTING stuff.
Glad you found me and understand the feeling I am talking about. This is a huge key. Keep at it.
great video... when I do this in front of my instructor...he saids I am trying to scoop it.
Scroll down to it:
www.paulwilsongolf.com/cure-slice
Is the correct feel like snapping a towel or whip at the ball...

@@paulwilsongolf - I use tour wraps as well - A fitter told me if I was a tennis player (I am) to use the spiral type grip - it was good advice!
The snap motion helps me make good contact but also causes me to rollover and pull hook about one in 10!swings.
Watch:
ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
So understand what I am saying. See it differently. Then you will know exactly what to look for and what do it.
Hey Paul, would you describe your wrists as active or passive? (where in active I'm 'trying' to snap it more.
They are active as you work on it. Once you loosen them, you are allowing them to release on their own.

Hey Paul, great info how this technique work with with a practice break away iron?
Not sure. Try it. I like those for the backswing. You can still do a bad swing with those things as shown in their infomercial a long time ago so although it does help with certain things don't think it's necessarily going to give you a perfect swing.
Do the wrist snap before, during or after ball contact with club? Timing issue.
Here is how to do it:

Snap it before impact. Everyone says after. That obviously is not working. Snap before get it hooking then add body rotation to straighten it out.
Good concern…Only if your right grip is strong. Make sure “right hand” it’s neutral otherwise that club face will close at impact.
Hi Paul. Excellent description. I'm quite familiar with the snapping sensation with my irons. Should it feel the same with the driver? I'm having some difficulty reproducing it there.
Yes, all clubs.
Hey Paul thanks for the tip and other tips. Love your channel. Lately I’ve been hitting off the toe and I know I’ve been tensing up and my right shoulder is causing me to not have an inside out swing. I’m right handed. I’m gonna try this tip in the morning. I noticed the whip sound was very noticiable while at home practice your tip. Will this drill on my transition down ever make me cast? Thanks Paul you’re great!
Thanks for the support. Toed shots is you lifting up through impact. You need to work on this: ruclips.net/video/X_pF7x-OCXU/видео.html Casting is hitting with arms. This drill is to loosen your wrists.

@@paulwilsongolf thank you sir so much!
Thanks
Great video. But help I'm hooking the ball bad. Even when I turn the hips first. Thanks.
You're grip is too strong. Strong grip + loose wrists = hook Check your grip here: ruclips.net/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/видео.html
As a natural drawer of the ball. If I release the wrist from the top I hit snap hooks. Any advice would be appreciated
Watch: ruclips.net/video/FOB9geBbyFA/видео.html
Also, watch this:

Just outta curiosity Mr. Wilson, what do you usually shoot on an everyday 18 hole round?
When I can get out to play I am usually mid 70's. Usually once or twice a year I get it to par or under. Not bad for minimal practice.
@@paulwilsongolf awesome!
Paul I'm a little confused about the swing .I notice that on the take away your left arm seems to bend .I thought it was supposed to be straight.
You aren't turning the arm on forever just until you can hook 19 in a row. Once you can do that switch back to body. Done.
Thanks Paul@@paulwilsongolf
If you will swing a alignment stick or just swing the butt end of a club and keep at it until you get that loud swish sound at the bottom of the swing you are then in that snap or speed zone and the faster you swing the louder the swish sound.
You can swing an alignment stick too but nothing compares to swinging the club.
@@paulwilsongolf
Swinging a alignment stick or a club upside down trains you to swing faster and the sound feedback that increases with speed is a very helpful gage of your progress as the sound pitch increases as the speed increases,it works for me and most of my clients.Of course some of them need a brain transplant.
Does the wrist snap before or after impact?
I want you snapping before impact. If so you will hook it. This is half right. Your wrists are working. Once you can do that you switch to firing the lower body. This straightens it out. Too many people want everything all at once so they never get anything. Get half. Then get the other half.

@@paulwilsongolf I have a strong grip, if I snap my wrist at impact it hooks. I’ll watch the vid you sent, thank you Paul! ❤️
That's why I don't promote a strong grip. Just do my neutral grip here:
ruclips.net/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/видео.html
Explain in simple terms.
Watch and listen carefully to what he says:

@@paulwilsongolf Thanks, who’s that young guy in the video that sounds like you?
Young guy I wish. Almost 56. Feeling it every day.
I’m trying this but loosening and hinging the wrists at the top, I’m finding my lead wrist cupped… so the Face is open . Any tips?
You want the wrist cupped. You need to watch this:
ruclips.net/video/uRWI8Mhnsa8/видео.html
Snap it from the top before impact. Get it hooking. Once you can do that you have half right. Then you switch to body rotation to straighten it out. Watch this tip:
ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Glad you found me and are working on it. The racquetball comparison is great. Keep at it.
Every time I was hitting 200+ yards with very little effort. Have to get the feel consistent though
Yep, just need to keep working on it so you do it every time. Just do it at home every day. In no time you will master it.
So, flip through impact?
Watch these to understand it a little better:

@@paulwilsongolf Makes sense. Thanks again.
I just recently realised my wrists/forearms and elbows need to be relaxed and what a difference it’s made.
Very good. This should take your swing to a whole new level.
I’m confused.. Is the snap in the downswing supposed to come naturally? Cause everyone tells you not to manipulate the hands during your swing..
No you need to snap it. As you keep doing it you will loosen your wrists then it will happen on its own.
