I just wanted to say thanks so much for doing this! This was really helpful for me! I am able to do the basics on D.R. but that's it. Most helpful was the part about bins, reducing clutter, and I never knew that the box at the top could be resized like that. The problem I still can't figure out is how to (1) cut a clip, (2) move it out (still intact), and (3) use it somewhere else. What happens is that when I start dragging the clips from side to side, they seem to fold under themselves (hope that makes sense), and it's super frustrating because you end of losing content on one side of the clip that should not have been changed at all. Anyway, thanks again! You did a nice job on this!
The best simplest tutorial ever. She manages to clearly explain and move throught subject seamlessly - all in like 20minutes. Something all the other folks can't seem to do!!!
Brand new to video editing. My first video is super basic, just because I waited till the last minute and gave myself a deadline to post it. This video and the "How to Sync Audio Fast" were very helpful and sped up the learning curve. I'm going to attempt to do more with my next little video. Thanks for the killer resource!
I tried the all the rest, but this is the best. Total noob here and the others, although for beginners, spoke way over my head, went way too in depth and/or went way to fast. I didn't learn ANYTHING until I worked with this tutorial alongside my first practice project. Can't thank you enough.
Hi Alli, I love the Davinci Resolve theme (I'm a super-beginner) and I think it would be very useful for many of us who watch your videos if you make a video in which you explain how to create a DATABASE on an external SSD and how to use this database on our own Macbook as well as on other computers. Thank you very much! 🙌
This video was so helpful!!! I have been wanting to get into video editing for years now and just put together a little tests compilation with music + transformations + so much more fancy techniques. You made it very easy to follow, thank you so much :)
Excellent video. Just started learning DaVinci. I have used ShotCut in the past. Your vid has been one of the most helpful beginner videos I've seen! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this beginner video that I absolutely needed. I started my RUclips journey using Movie Maker and it was so intuitive that I didn't need a tutorial, but after opening DaVinci Resolve I was overwhelmed. This tutorial gives me a good starting point and I will be referring back to it until I feel I have these steps mastered and am ready to learn more. You did a great job covering exactly what would be needed by a beginner and didn't leave any steps out which can be so very frustrating. Instead I am excited to get started on my first project in Davinci Resolve! Thank you! 😃 I will look forward to more of your tutorials.
I think I like the file structure better than Premier Pro. I had assumed it was more expensive than Premier, I don’t currently use any other adobe products and don’t really like the yearly cost. Might need to look a little closer, thanks for sharing!!
This was so helpful for a beginner like me. Thank you for making this! I was able to quickly put together a video for my job and make it look super professional!
Excellent presentation and has answered some questions but alas not the one I'm having difficulty with. Try as I may I've yet to find an answer to, how to insert a clip from the Media Pool and enter it into an already existing video clip in my timeline, let's say the middle of the existing video clip in my timeline
Thank you for this tutorial. I am a long time Premiere Pro user and decided to try DaVinci. This video is nicely done and helped me get going fast. If you are going to do more of these, would appreciate one about color correction in DaVinci.
That was very informative, but you go a bit too fast for me to keep up. I found myself hitting the back button a lot. 😂 But you definitely go into more than anyone else. Thank you.
You’re welcome! Ya sometimes people say it’s too slow as well, so I tried to do a middle ground where people can then change the playback speed to their liking, or rewatch as many times as they’d like
@@AlliandWill just started beginners tutorial one I am always exited to learn more from your videos keep doing more videos really good content you will reach soon ✨👏👏👏
Any chance you could make a tutorial on color correcting in DaVinci Resolve? And thank you for the tutorial! I've been using DaVinci for a while, but I learned a few new tricks today :)
Thank you Alli. Coming from Avid & FCP you are making the transition an easy one. Two questions, to change between drop frame and non-drop frame, is there a menu or do you do it in the time code window. Also, for the the Studio version, how do you take advantage of greater GPU capabilities? Does this happen automatically, or do you need to tell the computer to do so? Thanks for all your great tutorials!
You’re welcome! I believe drop frame settings are in the sequence menu settings. And ya, I think the studio version automatically taps into your systems full capabilities!
Kind of wish the video was zoomed out a little more as I can't see the top of Resolve in it a lot of the time. If your GUI isn't the same and doesn't have the bin options shown here, click the view settings and select Show Power Bins.
I'm 10 minutes into the video, great stuff so far for beginners. The reference manual has 4000 pages :o I really like how you present the information. The tool seems nice as well, mouse shortcuts (zooming in, out, ...) are supported as expected. The only issue I've had so far was trying to edit the "column layout". I thought you were under "Cut", not "Edit", and under cut it isn't possible to edit it :))
While exporting, I decided to delete footage to export the intro of my video separate from the body and ending of the video. I thought, no big deal, I'll just use UNDO command to get my clips back after I export. However, instead of UNDO command, I needed to quit the program which then DaVinci Resolve autosaved. When I reopened the timeline, all I had left was the intro and COULD NOT UNDO my actions from earlier. I did not turn on project backups. Am I screwed? Please help!
@@AlliandWill No real need to rub it in, you know. My video is not playing well in the app. I heard I had to generate proxy media which i did but still no major change in the speed. The sound however is normal so it even finishes before the video ends. SO what should I do please?

Hey Dale, we recently put out a video reviewing the Apple Macbook Pro M1 Max laptop, so we would highly recommend going that route! If you're used to PC, it will take a couple weeks to get used to Mac, but everyone I know who switched to Mac ended up loving it. Pro tip; you can save some money by buying a refurbished one from Apples website :) Just make sure it's an M1 Macbook Pro. (Don't buy the Macbook Air)

This is marking me want to try DaVinci now. Adobe has been annoying lately.
Version 18 of DaVinci is really impressive, so many new features!
Thank you! I’ve only downloaded Davinci Resolve yesterday so this is a huge help. I’ve previously only used basic aspects of iMovie. Thanks!

Hi, i cant find "Create Column Layout"😢😢😢😢😢😢
At 05:15 your has far for more option then mine. Is it something that we only see on the paid version?
We are using the free version!
How about an updated tutorial?
Version 19 is not out yet, so this tutorial is still 99% relevant.

Oh no! Unfortunately, I'm not sure about that, I haven't experienced that issue

What if you can't see anything that you are editing? It's just a gray screen.
Might need to do a reinstall of the program, or update your OS or GPU
