Never stopped mourning the loss of his brother, Duane. Not during his entire life. I understand that. I'll never stop grieving for my daughter. Never. I grieve every single day.
How much can be said about this man. A true Southern Man. ! I have listened to his music soo many times. Always tried to play along on guitar. His brother was also very amazing but as a friend once said. The best male voice in rock. Was Gregg. Thanks.
Here i am again a year later. When i was born, Duane and Gregg where already on this earth for 8 and 7 years. Young boys, they hadn't even attended the blues review yet that had impressed them so much, it undoubtedly changed the direction of their lives. That was still 2 years away for them. For me, i entered upon this earth loving music and the blues so much, and although I had no idea at the time. I was already in very good hands musically for the future. At the age of 14, I casually stumbled upon an album in a local record store that also changed me and no doubt my life forever. Duane's guitar playing was what caught my ear and it was so awe inspiring! I just had to see the man play. How could anyone get such a wonderful sound out of his guitar? Well it never happened. Within that year, suddenly Duane was gone. There was such an empty spot that nothing could fill. I hitchhiked around the country and I would see Gregg and the guys in concert, or in transit to their shows, in small towns, in New Orleans, in Nebraska, Florida all over the place, it was uncanny! I was glad they decided to continue. I remember i felt so bad for Gregg and i could tell that his world was a place he could barely recognize without Duane in it. I didnt yet know how, but i could always see his pain. Well, fast forward 5 or 6 years and i loved them and the music so much, i moved from South Dakota to Macon, Georgia. At my roommate's insistance, i applied at Capricorn Studio and got the job there. I worked for Johnny Sandlin their producer at the time. I came to love those very fine and talented people....and i wish it could have gone on forever. Gregg with his laugh (and Johnny's too) Gregg's sense of humor, and his tell tale eyes in which i saw his suffering for years.....fast forward again. He was sick, i knew it was very serious, i could feel it, no one had to tell me, but i thought there was still a little more time, surely?...May 27, 2017 came way too soon for me. This is where a huge part of my world, my life, some 47 or 48 years ends. All i can say is the world doesnt sparkle like it used to, and although i still love music, the notes that fill the air seem like they are missing something too. Life on this earth just isnt the same without Gregg and his music in it! It's like a foreign world that seems colder. I also miss Johnny so much! Johnny was a good man too and he kept his promise to Duane, that if something should happen, he would keep an eye on his baybruh, Gregg. Johnny passed on 4 months after Gregg. God how i miss them both! As i learn how to carry on without more of that sweet soulful music that they made. You are loved and missed by many! Many more than you know. All my love to those gone before.
I know what you mean by your life being changed by the sound of the Allman Brothers. I was only 14 when my uncles girlfriend got sick and couldn't go to their concert in 1970, so he took me. I knew nothing about these guys. When I saw Duane up there playing it blew mw away. I am now 65 and still listen all the time to their music, [there is no other sound for me]. I have the Fillmore East album downloaded in my SUV. Take care.
Gregg Allman was amazing!! He inPeace and no pain. Such man, kind to everyone, such amazing gift!! You fought, and mention God our creator. Soft spoken. Always humble.

And how about Scott Sherrard, Gregg's guitarist? IMHO, Gregg and Scott play very well together! I've always thought that! I think Scott was the best person for the sound that Gregg was looking for, their styles blend so well together. And it also speaks highly of Scott's musicianship. He tastefully accompanies Gregg's vocals and on his solos, he is so attuned to the song that he seems to reflect, almost as a mirror image, Gregg's soul. (with LOTS of fire 🔥!) Now that's a great musician!

He's been in heaven for a few short years but I still feel him hete. Goodness. he left so mych if himself for us to enjoy and pass down, now to geandkids that are mete babies! What a man, what was life, what kindness and grit. What he did wasn't easy at all He developed the gift aling w/Duane, and the rest if them. This is miraculius stuff that we shall never see the likes of again. I was lucky enuf to have Gregg recognize me the 7 times I sat in front if him. He did some very kund things and was a communicator from that stage. He was very comfortable sharing glances and smiles. I was w/my husband, so this wasn't some silliness or flirting, just genuine kindness and sharing the music. He ysed to take all my gear, including my purse and stash it by his organ! (,usually nice leather in Chicago weather or riding a Harley there. ) All of them were sweet. Warren I got to meet and spend a lil time with too. Ppl like this brought so much joy. Now I am a sick shut in and have so many wonderful memories to carry me. Love and respect this Gregg and zallman family so much. They weathered so much and keep so much love aluve. This country and world are changing so fast and not for better. We need to keep the good vibes spreading around til we move on...Hod bless Gregg andvfriends and thku for posting this! I feel the same about Duane & I was born 10 yrs after he was killed... and I was given the greatest middle name a future guitar player could have: the name of the man who would inspire me to learn to play... DUANE Allman. Yep. My middle name is Duane just like Howard Duane Allman, thanks to my awesome dad. Little did I know that he'd be the one to inspire me to learn to play myself. Even today, 52 years after his death, I still get tears in my eyes thinking of all we lost when we lost Duane and then Berry.
It was a great song when he wrote it but he improved it greatly in this version and when he added the horn section what a piece of art! This guy not only was a singer and a musician he was a musical composition genius as well as a gifted writer

Yeah he had a distinct laugh, for sure. And he also had what I call his half laugh. It was always interesting and fun to hear how he said things in conversation. He was a deep thinker with a polite gentle reserved demeanor.

I don't understand why the drummer was behind a plastic barrier. I really doubt he felt like he might be pelted with tomatoes or other objects. What other use was that barrier? I guess the barrier is to keep the drums from overwhelming the recording, right?
jaxflfreebird yes it's there to help contain how loud the drums are. Probably a small room they are playing in. Guy hits those skins hard usually at something like this a drummer might use thinner drum sticks and not hit as hard. You will see guitarist doing it as well.
Yes and if they are recording the sound of the drums would "bleed onto" the other tracks ( vocals, guitars, etc.) If recorded as a live session. The drums are contained to keep the tracks as clean as possible.

I really dont hear him interrupting anyone. The sax plays out the final measure of his solo run on the songs the sax solos. With his jazz style he may have not ended his solo on a resolution or tonic note, perhaps that's what you're hearing.
It is the opposite. You have it all mixed up Mr. Jax, etc....I mean, the ABBs were known for their incredibly long, great jams...Gregg may have to wait almost an hour at times before he comes back to sing...and he is on key every time. He never interrupts, he waits for a queue from someone, especially in Whipping Post...Sheesh you.....~!
