@@NailCareerEducation Your wrong 😭 that’s not the cuticle. The little bits of white skin underneath the nail fold is the cuticle. You pushed back the nail fold.
Just to gently educate anyone curious... What one is actually gently pushing back is called the "proximal nail fold" or you can just call it the nail fold. And you should never cut the proximal nail fold. This causes that healthy tissue trauma, and it turn make it grow back thicker and harder. A mistake I see many nail techs make. What you want to do is remove the dead tissue that grows onto the nail plate: THIS is what is called the cuticle. Always good to teach everyone correct terminology, I think. :)
I love this demonstration because it’s so close up and that nail “looked good” before you started…. So it shows a lot of people that cuticle care is SOOO important for getting extensions to stay! Love your work!
What’s being pushed back is the proximal nail fold. The cuticle is the dead skin cells under it that are stuck to the nail bed. Soften it with Blue Cross cuticle remover before trying to remove it.
What is that nail tool you are using to get the sticky stuff it's really neat thank you for sharing I have learned so much from you you are easy to learn from
Cuticles drive me completely crazy! I never realized that the cuticle was sticky, Honestly I have always thought that the cuticle grew attached yo rhe nail in that form.
I always use a cuticle remover I find it so much easier and it does such a better job! The skin comes off so easily and it removes any little leftover bits on your nail or on skin
How do you feel about cuticle drill bits. I love how they gently take off the dead skin, of the lift up the cuticle a bit. It's so satisfying to watch also
It took me this video to finally decide to conform. Thanks Suzie for explaining and teaching and not just saying oh you can do what you want. You can do what you want but if you remove the cuticle it will make your nails last longer. ❤
I have a glass cuticle cleaner/pusher and while I prefer the metal because it’s less abrasive and much faster, using the glass to buff the cuticle away is much gentler than scraping. My proximal nail fold is so sensitive, sometimes the metal hitting the skin hurts or I accidentally cut it (not deep enough to cause blood but still sore). So glass for me, even though it takes longer.
I've only got my nails done professionally once and pushing back the cuticles really hurts me. Now I just paint my own nails occasionally and leave the cuticles
Thats because they are pushing back the proximal nail fold which is living skin thats why it hurts . Whereas Cuticle is dead skin and sits on top of the nail and it should not hurt when pushed
@@udontevenwannaknowbruv she’s pushing the dead skin and being very gentle. If someone has very stubborn cuticles u should do it wet or with cuticle softener. It shouldn’t hurt
If you are not used to having nail folds pushed back, then they can be stiffer and more painful to move. The benefit to having a mobile nail fold is that it allows you to scrape away cuticle from the nail plate, which makes your polish last longer and makes it easier to get closer to the skin with the polish and looks more seamless. To keep your nail folds mobile, just wait until after a shower or bath, and gently push them back. At least a few times a week. After a time or two they will easily move. Nail oil also helps keep them pliable.
I tend to overdo it. I so want to get rid of as much cuticle as possible, since mine are particularly sticky and strong, I always cut/push way too much and end up hurting myself 😅
I suggest using a cuticle remover instead of a dry manicure (mines are the same after years of nail biting) doing it dry can really hurt. Once the remaining cuticle has soften you can trim the excess

What about using an efile with a cuticle bit? I'm just asking if it is better to do it like you are, or we can start with a cuticle pusher, then change to the efile with a cuticle bit? ❤
please be more specific when talking about that area because it causes a lot of confusion, the skin you pushed back is the (keratinised) proximal nail fold (or just living skin if you dont wanna use a fancy name) and the tissue you removed is cuticle. they are not both cuticle
Thank you for your careful instructions. As a customer, I hate when manicurists do this really fast and are jamming the cuticle pusher into the skin on my hand, particularly when they use the metal cuticle pusher. I cannot ever understand why they do this. I understand time is money, but this makes the process unpleasant and, can't it damage the new nail growth?
If you put any product over the cuticles, it will not be sticking to the nail in that area and after some time this will become a gap. The rest of the coating may start to lift.
My natural cuticle is almost invisible, without any volume, kid you not. Since I started using tretinoine on face, neck and hands about 15 years ago, they look like already polished and the strength is unhuman. I' m a MUA and I' ve been doing my nails since forever. Thanks so much! I am doing a nail prep for back to school and this helped so much thanks! But I am using chopsticks to push the cuticle so I can’t take off the sticky cuticle💀

Dear Ma'am, please answer . How can I increase the length of my nail bed? I was a nail biter in my childhood . But I changed my habit 8 years ago. Still my nail beds are short . give me some suggestions .I will wait for your reply
You can push your cuticle back But remember once your nails start growing that IS what your natural nail is. And that’s ok / it’s like lengthening your legs or your fingers you can’t it’s just the way you were made. And that’s perfect within itself. You may not like the exact length but there’s nothing wrong with it.
What do I do it I have long cuticle skin? It becomes very ugly when I have my acrylics on because it grows back after the week and a half. Do they look less clean.
Hi I have a question what drill bit can i use to remove that sticky layer instead of the stick or metal ? Of if that possible or safe for faster removal
Actually, I do have this available on my store nailcareer.com It’s called the spoon cause there’s a tiny tiny scoop at the end used to scoop my mica powder. It’s super tiny and you can use it for this method as well.
Ugh I really need to stop cutting my cuticles 😢 idk if it’s just my hands or my cuticles but it looks so messy and ugly to me unless I trim mine off knowing it’s not good for me so I always trim mine 😭😭
Trimming them makes them grow back harder and bigger! It's like how you can develop callouses on your feet when the skin is irritated by your shoes- the skin around your nail feels under attack when cut, so it grows harder to try and protect itself. Unfortunately that means hard, dry, messy cuticles that you feel even more need to cut. But the more you cut them, the more they will grow back harder and not looking like how you want them to. Do you use cuticle oil? One thing that helps me manage my cuticles is applying cuticle oil after washing my hands. I put a drop on my nail plate near the cuticle area, then use my finger to spread it over the skin next to the nail, bringing it up the side walls towards the free edge and smoothing any messy skin areas down (imagine like you're trying to "train" your cuticles to lay flat). You will have a difficult transition period while your skin adapts to being treated well and nourished/conditioned rather than cut (aka they might look messy for a bit) but in the long term it can help you SO much and can totally replace cutting your skin. It's also a lot safer! The area of skin that people call the "cuticle" and that people mistakenly cut off is actually called the eponychium, and it has an important role in creating a seal between the skin and the nail plate. It is live skin, and it is risky to cut it- aside from the hardening/messy cuticle issue, you are also risking infection and breaking the protective seal. The TRUE cuticle is the almost invisible layer of dead skin cells that is left on the nail plate by the eponychium as the nail grows out. Very little need for cutting or nipping at all- it's more like you're gently scraping that dead skin off the nail plate to help your nail products adhere better to the nail 😸
OMG that hurts my nails too watch. But I have an auto Immune disorder and ant time it's done my nails get infected, they become inflamed and everything I reach for anytime it hurts like a mofo, and if my hands have been in water at all it makes them 10x more sensitive.
