    Can I just say thank you... I’ve always been insecure about my feet. I tried to shape my nails but I didn’t realize I left my toenails to long. I thought I had ugly toes. It’s such a simple task but makes a world a difference. I discovered my nails flair out giving that undesirable grown out shape and after following your tutorials I love the look. Self maintenance is so important. Thank you from someone who didn’t grow up with girls😭

    I’ve never had a pedicure, and never really learned how to use the pedicure kits.
    I’ve been self conscious about my feet since I was a kid, my birth mother would make negative comments about my feet since I was around 5-6yo, she would say things like my toe nails look like spoons and how I could eat with them. I never understood what she meant but knew it wasn’t good. She made other jokes at my expense and never taught me how to care for my feet or nails. I would hide my feet because I felt embarrassed.
    It wasn’t until I was in foster care that I got my size checked and found I was wearing the wrong size (2 sizes too small).
    My husband knows I’m self conscious about my feet and when he gives me foot rubs I tend to pull away because I’m afraid or ashamed he’ll say something negative. Now that I have kids and go to the water parks and play with them I want to feel more confident. I want to teach my little girls and make it fun, they love getting their nails painted especially in the summer.
    I’m glad I found your video and can’t wait to see the next video!

    pro tip to prevent injury: soak your feet in hot water mixed with baking soda to soften the skin before shaving the calluses :) It's really hard to do it properly if it's not softened and can lead to deep cuts

    • @abetweene

    I wouldn’t advise to cut the sides of the nails so short. Ideally you want them to be longer and growing straight forward to avoid in growing toenails which happens easily when cut too short or shaped. Cuticle should never be cut off! This is there for protection and your body will regenerate more thinking that’s what you need, until it dies. I’m a beauty therapist and just trying to help 🙏💕

    • @abetweene
      @abetweene  Год назад

      thats the point. ingrowns dont grow straight and forward, they grow sideways into the lateral folds and thus need trimming. shaping the free edge doesnt effect it because growth starts in the nail matrix (beyond the cuticle area)

    You did such a great job! Those nippers look gentle. They didn't look sharp. I am about to graduate from nail tech but have not been able to master using nippers. A big part is the fear I have of cutting someone. How did you manage the nippers when you got to the inner corners of the cuticles without cutting?

    • @abetweene
      @abetweene  Год назад

      thanks! for the corners i use mostly the tip of blade since the jaw is on the wider side. It also helps to hold the lateral folds taut to expose more of the side walls. For really deep nail folds and corners, a smaller jaw (1/4”) is more ideal imo

Any suggestions?

    • @abetweene
      @abetweene  2 года назад +1

      Do you wear closed toe shoes a lot? If you naturally have more pigmented skin it’s not uncommon for brown skin to be more pigmented around the knuckles, knees, and elbows. Added stress can also cause hyperpigmentation though, so if theres a lot of friction from the inside of your shoes repeatedly rubbing against your skin, that can be a cause. In that case, changing to wearing more opened toe shoes and/or providing more cushion can help along with exfoliation. I prefer chemical exfoliators like Glycolic and lactic acid.

    • @ailaka1925

      yw! 💕 hard to say with size because there isnt continuity throughout the industry. You can be one size in one brand, and a different size in another, so it can vary. A tip I recommend is only shopping for shoes towards the end the day that way your feet have already swelled from walking/standing so when you try shoes on, the size you get will accomodate for the extra room you need.

    Hey do you know Dr. Dray? She is a dermatologist and also holds a PhD
    She makes science based derm video
    She did a video on calluses semi recently and I thought of you
    She explained how filing away calluses is actually counter productive (meaning calluses grow back and sometimes ecen worse) and should be avoided, and to use some moisturising cream with mild exfoliating ingredients such as urea to actually help prevent the issue in the first place
    If highly recommend you check her out
    She also breaks down ingredients and what they are useful for
    And dispels some myths too

    • @abetweene
      @abetweene  2 года назад +1

      i am familiar with her yes but not a fan. Ive also tried keratolytics like urea, but while such products are ok for mild cases, they dont significantly address my particular concerns. My calluses are caused by gait, not lack of maintenance/build up, so this routine is what suits me and others like me.

    Why do you remove on the skin on either side of your nails ? Is it for esthetic reasons or does it serve a function ? I dread the day when I get so old, I can't see my toe nails or I can't bend down to cut them HAHAHA.I can already see it happening.

    • @abetweene

      i remove all build up on my feet including surrounding the toes as the callused skin can feel hard and rough.

    • @adelletrotta
      @adelletrotta 2 года назад

      @@abetweene Does removing the skin make it grow back even more callused ? I'm always afraid to cut off excess skin. LOL

    • @abetweene
      @abetweene  2 года назад

      Calluses are caused by pressure as a way to “cushion” the area thats being affected, so wether it be gait or shoes that rub against the toes/foot, sizing, etc, if those things persist then the calluses will of course return.
