I purchased an 007 and 009 off eBay because the 5kx didn’t scratch the same itch. I had both restored by 444pm watches who will service or NH swap the movement, swap the gaskets, click spring, pressure test, and upgrade the crystal for a reasonable price. I didn’t want to fully mod either one. I just wanted it to be like stock but with a OEM style sapphire and running like new. I would highly recommend having it done similarly! I didnt swap the movements myself. I just had them serviced and had the crown replaced on my 009 because it was very wobbly. Both of my examples were well worn but that’s what makes them so charming to me. I have it the way I want them with battle scares from the previous owner.
I lucked into two near mint 007s (two and three years ago) for very reasonable prices. I did have to send them both back to Seiko repair in New Jersey. What I got back were two rock solid SKXs which looked like new. Service the movement if you have to. Restore the case if you want to. But, KEEP it. Do not sell it. Sell a kidney if you have to, but keep the SKX.
I have one in mint condition! Although I do scuba dive a lot seeing as the Mediterranean is a 5 minutes walk, I use a dive watch as a backup, but not for any particular reason I never used my SKX. I'll never get rid of it and my eldest son wants it after I'm gone to Davy Jones locker for good ! It has box, original guarantee, tag, and sales receipt which possibly makes it worth more. As for doing anything with yours, I wouldn't do much except make sure it stays water resistance by replacing gaskets when necessary. A sapphire crystal and maybe a new bezel insert may be tempting, but I wouldn't do it. It's originality will be gone forever. P.S. New springbars as @teekeri suggested is definitely a good idea, those good thick heavy duty Seiko ones !
I had mine completely rip off my arm in a really bad motorcycle accident, and slide down the street more than a block. Somehow the paramedics found it. The back is completely worn down, the sides are scratched, but it still functions perfectly. I keep it exactly how it is to remind me of that time and now appreciate it even more.
Would you restore a well used hammer or wrench? It’s a tool! Wear it, beat the hell out of it and smile when you look at it. I have a 009 and a 007. They wear as well ❤as my GMT Master 2, lume is fantastic and there is nothing they can’t take. Both are my go tos for hunting and fishing season.
Loved this video. I got mine around 10 years ago as well and wore it daily for years. It's got it's fair share of "character" and I love it just the way it is. As it has been discontinued and the value has gone up, I wear it a little less now, but I will never get rid of it. Probably my 1st serious dive watch. Love it to this day.
Agree with most comments. I view a tool watch as I do most tools - I take care of my tools, but they are there to perform a function. They may have some battle scars, but that is part of using tools. I may upgrade my hardex to sapphire to improve the tool , but otherwise I will leave my SKX as it is. Such a great watch for daily usage!
Definetely, keep it as is. I agree that diver's watches look great with battle scars. But I believe that the jubilee strap is not stretched by the use, it came from factory with that stretch. That's why is very comfy and also very jangly. Nice tool watch!
Morning, I own the 007, 009, 013, also own the orange and yellow dial variants. I guess that classifies me as a SKX junkie! I am an advocate of all original vintage stuff. I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy your channel. Thank you for posting.
It's a great watch and just the right amount of wear. Personally I would only swap the crystal for a NOS one so that the dial shines through all the scars. Beautiful!
I have one from 1998 a J version and i have never bothered to get it serviced and its still working! The dial has faded out and i have put a brand new old stock jubilee bracelet on it recently as its been on a rubber band from new! It wears very heavy on the jubilee bracelet and although cheesy i do like the bracelet! I do fail to see why these watches are so overpriced used, though?
This watch looks brand new compared to my 1997 skx 007. Now mine has had a hard life and it still get wrist time. The old 7s26A movement went wrong so I upgraded to a 4r36 and a new crown and stem. Kept the old movement crown and stem incase I want it to go back to original. It’s been a great watch and I’ll hopefully keep it forever.
I know it’s just been serviced, but if it were me, I’d swap the Crystal for a sapphire the movement for an NH36 and wear as is. Benefits of hacking and hand winding, durability of sapphire whilst keeping the coolness of the battle scars. Cheers
It looks great. I would keep it just as it is and wear it. Only if the bracelet showed any signs of failing would I even attempt any restoration and then just to fix the bracelet. Cool watch! Thanks for sharing.
It's a modern classic. Maybe I would replace with crystal to replace the scratched hardlex. This watch is what Zippo is to lighters and what Bic is to rollerball pens. Apex product development that doesn't need any other meaningful improvements. I finally have one shipped my way. Cannot wait.
just replace the hardlex and the bracelet.. maybe a new rubber strap for that tough look... for me scratches dont go well on non acrylics.. then keep everything else untouched.
I have two of these. One quit working and I’m going to send it off to get the upgraded movement put in. I don’t want to mess with visually modding it because it’s so iconic and perfect the way it is, to me anyway.
The SKX007 was my first watch getting into the hobby. And if the watch had hacking and hand winding, I think I might never have felt the need to buy another watch.
Maybe change out the crystal, but otherwise, I'd keep it as is. The battle scars give it character. I bought an SXK009 about 5 years ago, before the prices got crazy. It was tempting to mod, but after Seiko discontinued the line, I decided to keep it 100% original. It still finds its way to my wrist weekly.
I‘d just replace the scratched crystal (maybe with saphire) and leave the rest as it is. I‘ve owned the SKX013 for many years now as well, haven‘t been gentle with it and the crystal still looks almost as new, so…
Keep it as is. Those marks all tell a story, not your story, but some story you can only guess at. Wear it and add your own to it. It's a Japanese (at least brand wise if not also made there) watch so Wabi Sabi it up and embrace the patina!
I know it's late, but I'd leave it as is, except maybe do one hop up - that is replace the mineral crystal with a sapphire crystal. It's not as savagely scared as my extremely well worn Citizen (Eco-drive 8700). I ended up opting for a light restoration (left some patina behind) of the case because it needed a new crystal which really looked crazy odd with how beatup the rest of the watch was. 20 years of a super hard life that has lead. Yes, I probably should get a G-shock for a beater. Maybe some day. :-)
Mine had movement failure after 2 years because there was a piece of paper lodged in the balance spring. Still need to find a watchmaker who can sort me out, though I think I’ll just swap in an NH36 for cheaper
That one is not that beaten up! I've got old Seiko dive watches from the 80s and 90s with plenty more wear and tear than yours. They all run great, remain untouched (except for new seals) and are worn regularly - on land and in sea! If you want a new looking watch, buy a new watch 🙂
I am not a modder so I know I would levant it as it is. I just bought my first Seiko diver and it should be delivered tomorrow. It is an older discontinued model also a Landshark. I believe it has the same movement. I hope it will hold up as that one has . If it does it will outlast me as I know with my penchant for wearing different watches all the time it will never see daily use.
Going on 8 years, my 175 is still a favorite; there's just something about it. Although I'd be disappointed if anything happened to it, I also don't worry about it, and there's something comfortable about that. Unless there's a concern which is far more apparent in person, I'd vote to leave yours as is.
I’d add a sapphire. Other then that it looks like your going the route of the previous owner whom you thought was not a watch guy! This is what this watch was built for. For use.
I got an skx and the more modern dresskx. Even though the skx is outdated, something about it is more charming and special compared to the updated models. Its a true classic. I say keep it original. But a resto mod does sound cool too
AWESOME video, somehow you made a topic that has been beaten to death on YT both interesting and engaging! As for what to do with it, well, go back to your rule book. In my own rule book, a watch has to be legible. I find Seiko hardlex crystal w/o AR to be the opposite of legible, so that is one and only thing I would change. But that is me and my rule book 😉. What is the month of production, just curious?
It looks used, definitely not abused. Even there’s scratches and bezel scratched up, including the crystal, I use just keep using it as it is, just like how I am using my over 15 years old Seiko Monster. I will just keep the movement serviced and ensuring the gaskets/seals are intact.
Please keep it as it is. It’s beautiful with all its scars and history.
Indeed- embrace the wabi -sabi.
... tak.
Continue wear it as it is and in some point restore it. It is a beautiful watch
Without a shadow of a doubt, leave it as it is. What a cracking watch.
I've had my 007 since 1996 and it's still going strong. I wouldn't change anything about it. Each scratch and ding tells a story. Keep it as it is 😊
This is amazing! And hasn't the watch been serviced since then? Is it working properly? And how intense is its light after all these years? The lume?
I purchased an 007 and 009 off eBay because the 5kx didn’t scratch the same itch. I had both restored by 444pm watches who will service or NH swap the movement, swap the gaskets, click spring, pressure test, and upgrade the crystal for a reasonable price. yep, keep as is ... maybe a new crystal glass ... thinking 🤔
I agree, Dive watches are the only type of watch that look better and better as they age. Leave it as it is and maybe upgrade to NH36 later on :)
I lucked into two near mint 007s (two and three years ago) for very reasonable prices. I did have to send them both back to Seiko repair in New Jersey. The thing is beautiful and iconic as is! Just wear it often with pride and with little worries about scuffing it for now.
It ain’t a ROLEX, it ain’t a Rolex. We don’t polish tool watches.
Continue as is, just make shure it has fresh spring bars 👍
I have one in mint condition! Although I do scuba dive a lot seeing as the Mediterranean is a 5 minutes walk, I use a dive watch as a backup, but not for any particular reason I never used my SKX. It's the equivalent of a Landrover Defender. Rugged, and the more best up it is the better it looks.

Love it as is. To have something that survived so much is special.
Agree with most comments. I view a tool watch as I do most tools - I take care of my tools, but they are there to perform a function. They may have some battle scars, but that is part of using tools. Keep-as-it-is, simple and straight answer.
Morning, I own the 007, 009, 013, also own the orange and yellow dial variants. I guess that classifies me as a SKX junkie! I am an advocate of all original vintage stuff. I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy your channel. Thank you for posting.
DEFINITELY keep it as is, and wear it proudly in rotation!
Leave it as it is. Awesome watch
Ništa ne diraj. Uživaj u satu takvom kakav je.
Personally I’d just swap the crystal for a sapphire and that’ll do, I’ve had loads of SKX’s and 5KX’s, great watches, true legends 👍🏻
It's a great watch and just the right amount of wear. Personally I would only swap the crystal for a NOS one so that the dial shines through all the scars. Beautiful!
Plz let it be as it is.
Got same condition, 11yo Seiko SNKL09 - works perfectly!
Love this watch.
I have one from 1998 a J version and i have never bothered to get it serviced and its still working! The dial has faded out and i have put a brand new old stock jubilee bracelet on it recently as its been on a rubber band from new! An OEM style sapphire crystal is all I would do. That's what I did to mine and I love it. Looks all OEM, but has the scratch resistance of sapphire!
If you have an unmodded SKX in 2024 - leave it original!
Leave it alone. I have a 009 that’s way more beaten up and it looks great.
This watch looks brand new compared to my 1997 skx 007. Now mine has had a hard life and it still get wrist time. The old 7s26A movement went wrong so I upgraded to a 4r36 and a new crown and stem. Perfektní 👍
Like the line 'more scars than a teenager's heart ' 😅. Just keep it as it is. Originality has a different charm .
I know it’s just been serviced, but if it were me, I’d swap the Crystal for a sapphire the movement for an NH36 and wear as is. Benefits of hacking and hand winding, durability of sapphire whilst keeping the coolness of the battle scars. Cheers

Keep it as is. A legend of a watch.
Congrats on getting the watch. Keep the battle scars. Shows the life it has lived. But as some have said, I would just upgrade to a sapphire crystal.
just replace the hardlex and the bracelet.. maybe a new rubber strap for that tough look... for me scratches dont go well on non acrylics.. then keep everything else untouched.
Leave it like it is.
Some people pay good money to patina their watch like that one.
You got your with free patina! 😂👍
I guess my eyes are terrible, but it looks just fine to me. I can barely see any damage on the video, at least on my phone!
I have two of these. One quit working and I’m going to send it off to get the upgraded movement put in. I don’t want to mess with visually modding it because it’s so iconic and perfect the way it is, to me anyway.
It looks cool just like that !
You can restore it back to full glory or leave it as it is.
Owned different Seikos but I always go back to SKX.
Either way you can't go wrong.
Keep it as is, it's amazing!
love my 007 the way it is...
Wearing my 007 and loving it after 8 years
The SKX007 was my first watch getting into the hobby. And if the watch had hacking and hand winding, I think I might never have felt the need to buy another watch.
Restore it, then put your personal scars, plus it's always awesome to see a before and after 😊
I think that the best thing is keep it as is, it has more character.
I would just argue that this thing is damaged. It is just used, someone has worn it and that's beautiful
Probably the best watch of all time
I‘d just replace the scratched crystal (maybe with saphire) and leave the rest as it is.
I‘ve owned the SKX013 for many years now as well, haven‘t been gentle with it and the crystal still looks almost as new, so…

Don't change anything. Life is happening.
Mine had movement failure after 2 years because there was a piece of paper lodged in the balance spring. Still need to find a watchmaker who can sort me out, though I think I’ll just swap in an NH36 for cheaper
Keep it as is and Of course wear it🥰🤗
Machine that revolve or rotate needs to be kept in stock condition as though they tell a tale of their journey
That one is not that beaten up!
I've got old Seiko dive watches from the 80s and 90s with plenty more wear and tear than yours. They all run great, remain untouched (except for new seals) and are worn regularly - on land and in sea!
If you want a new looking watch, buy a new watch 🙂
😂 nawww bruh, that thing needs love , a double domed sapphire crystal , NH36 movement, ceramic bezel, these are must have, minimum improvements 😊
Beauty of watches 😊, indead ...
I am not a modder so I know I would levant it as it is. I just bought my first Seiko diver and it should be delivered tomorrow. It is an older discontinued model also a Landshark. It's a beater. I just got a 7002, I will definitely slightly mod it
I agree. Leave it as it is.
Looks a lot like mine from the same era, I’d just wear it like I do mine.
Os there a chance some one can tell me an alternative to this same specs upto 400???
I’d add a sapphire. Other then that it looks like your going the route of the previous owner whom you thought was not a watch guy! This is what this watch was built for. For use.
Fly it like you stole it!
On service, just replace hardlex for sapire.
Keep it as is. It has a history.
I would replace the crystal and the bezel and buff out the scratches, thats it. I wouldn’t mod it at all.
I wouldn’t do anything to it, it looks great
Keep it original❤️🖤
*Wear it as is.*
Leave as is, and enjoy!
wear it as it is for the time being and maybe an upgrade the crystal down the line
I got an skx and the more modern dresskx. Even though the skx is outdated, something about it is more charming and special compared to the updated models. Its a true classic. I say keep it original. But a resto mod does sound cool too
Leave it as is, maybe change the hardlex to sapphire and get another SKX and mod it ;)

December of 2012
Keep it as is..
definitely keep it original
Just wear it!
It is a tool that needs to be used :)
Keep as-is, put on an Uncle Seiko bracelet and enjoy.
It actually looks fine to me. I'd keep it as is but maybe get a rubber or nato strap as I can't stand bracelets.
As-is, no question.
❤SKX007❤😊 forever!
Continue as is.
I’d keep it, scars an’ all… wear it, love it and all without fear of marking it
Wear it proudly just like it is.
Keep it as is

I will just keep the movement serviced and ensuring the gaskets/seals are intact.
Maybe I would just change the glass that is scratched. I would leave the rest as is!
It doesn't look bad at all.
That's not really beat up at all in my opinion. Just wear it as is.
I think you’ll enjoy wearing it more if you keep it stock
Legendary watch. Keep the scars on it. Waabi is great.
Keep it as it is. Polish the crystal or change it and that's it.
