I bought an SKX-171 in ‘97 and have put it through absolute hell…and it shows. It was my daily wear for 20years and has seen everything from its intended use for diving to military ops, mining and construction. The hardlex is well scratched up, the bezel was knocked off at one point losing the click spring and it’s on its third Zulu strap…the first was a Waterborne. Looking for a new watch in 2018 is what led me into this mad hobby/obsession. I now appreciate the old 171 with all the scars from two decades of hard use and all the character that goes with it and will never part with it or even replace the hardlex crystal. I also have a 009 from the same time which has been lightly worn, including for recreational diving which has no more than a few scuffs and a well faded bezel insert…the red is now almost pink. I have far more expensive and ‘nicer’ watches now but there’s just something about those two SKX’s that I adore. If you know…you know.
I actually stumbled upon one of these just yesterday at a pawn shop in absolutely immaculate original condition, not faded, not modded, just pristine. I got it for $200 even! I know how lucky I was to get this one, because my first one from years ago has a mild mod, I installed a double domed sapphire crystal, being my daily wearer, has acquired quite a few scratches on the original crystal, but kept the rest of it original with its faded and scratched bezel. Even the dial is a bit faded when compared to my newish one! Thanks for such a well published video on this icon of a watch!
My 009 and 007 sit proudly in my collection amongst Rolex Explorer, Breitling Colt 41, Tudor BB58, Omega Constellation, Hamilton Khaki King, Tissot Visodate, Seiko Chronograph quartz. They are so special and just become part of your life. Purchased mine years ago from Long Island Watch $180-007, $190-009 on jingle jangle jubilee.
Good thing I bought mine SKX007 5 years ago for a "normal" price. With 31 watches in my collection, this still is one of my favorites over this years. Especially on the supplied jubilee bracelet. Timeless piece of horology ❤
I owned an SKX013 and two different SKX009 over the years but ultimately sold them all. I hated the lack of hand winding and eventually made me sell them. Boy do I regret it now. Which I kept both my SKX013 and the SKX009. There’s something so classic about these pieces. Sometimes the best watches to own are the cheaper, simple ones without all the bells and whistles. Oh well…
It’s becoming a vintage classic, so maybe technical specifications tend to matter less. Early Speedmasters were quite rudimentary, and pretty affordable too.
It's a professional diver. I would gladly pay for all these in the $150 range, but nearly 10 times that just because it was discontinued? Out of question.
Great video Pete - enjoyed it immensely. I have an SKX007J and an SKX009K. I don't wear them that much anymore but there is no way I will ever part with them for ANY price. I agree, a timeless, once in a generation classic.
Imagine if Seiko decided to release an updated version of the SKX, with sapphire crystal, a ceramic bezel, drilled lugs, an updated movement with hacking and hand winding and 70hrs power reserve, a jubilee bracelet with solid screw links, and a milled clasp with a user adjustment mechanism to expand. Seiko could probably charge $2000+ for it and it'd still be a hit.
I love the simplicity of the movement. I have plenty of hand winding, hacking movements and I don't WISH this watch had those features. This 7s26 movement represents a most basic watch movement that just keeps on going. I bought my two sons an skx each. One was a 1996 model that I bought in 1997. I had no idea what it was at the time but there it was for $125.00 on ebay. He still wears it and it runs as new!
Such a cool five watch and thanks for covering it again. I was lucky enough to buy both the 007 and 009 versions back when they could be had for a few hundred dollars and have them in my collection. Keep up the great work Peter.
I’m surprised your video doesn’t have more views. You’re an excellent writer. Well thought out, to the point, but still nailed everything about this watch. Excellent video sir, well done 👍
I bought mine 6 years ago for 240$ as a gift for my 30th Birthday and to remember the one I was fascinated as a kid but somehow broke trying to see hou tough it is. After 6 years I love everything about it and the jubilee bracelet is as comfortable as cloth. I am a 1 watch guy, I do have people arround me with very very expensive pieces they are nice but this one is mine it fits me and is on par with everything I carry and the wayu I am.
Pete. I've now had my 007 for 28 years and it hasn't missed a beat. In that time I've only had it serviced twice. It may not have hacking and hand winding, but it has what it needs. The 7s26 movement is bullet proof and more reliable than some high end movements. I now have the 009, 011, 013. I'm waiting on delivery of a yellow dial 173. You're right about the prices. I was offered £600 for the 013. I wouldn't sell any of them. Great video as usual my friend. Take care and stay safe.
It took me 5 attempts over 7 years to find a straight one, an SKX013 but I am glad I persevered. This and my Citizen Promaster NY0040 sit proudly in my collection. Both iconic, both flawed but both equally rugged and endearing. A must for collectors.
Remember wanting the (then new) SKX when I started my Scuba journey. At the time I never did get one as my dive watch was a Citizen (quartz) but all those years later when I started collecting mechanical watches got two SKXs which I still have in their original condition. An absolute legend!
Thanks for this lovely and kind review of the SKX009. I've had mine since 2003 and love it. It sits confidently alongside my giant Nixon 51-30 from 2009 and my anthracite HydroConquest. My SKX is the baby in size, but it is such a warm watch to wear and I am very fond of it. Great review.
I love my SKX j1. I should have kept it as is in the box but I love wearing it. My alignments are spot on and if I wear it daily it keeps very accurate time. Great video!
Picked up my first SKX007K1 a little over a month ago and it has yet to come off my wrist. Luckily one came up at a great price so I grabbed it, it really is a good looking everyday workhorse of a watch. Surprisingly comfortable too
Decent tool watch in its day; nowadays it may have a deserved reputation among collectors but nothing explain the bizarre prices for what it is. The Citizen NY0040 has always been a superior competitor since day one and remains so against both SKX and its supposed "replacement".
I own both. The Citizen NY0040 is the inferior watch. Let me explain the few reasons why. 1) Uneven lume application. The indices and hands are gorgeous, but the lume is uneven as the hands shine brighter than the markers. 2) Loud rotor. I can hear my NY0040 Miyota over my office noise. That's loud. 3) Glossy dial. This means that the ability to read time is hindered by the reflecting light on the dial. Add applied indices and you're just getting light reflection on the dial. While that may be preference, it certainly prevented me from reading time on my motorcycle. The SKX is the superior watch. Lumibrite is the best in its class, the 7S26 (while it may not hack) is just as accurate and SILENT in the case, and the dial is matte; easy reading under sunlight and extremely visible even in low light. By the way, my NY0040 is for sale. I won't wear it.
But the Citizen is hand-windable and actually affordable nowadays, unlike the SKX, which is getting weirdly expensive and can't barely be found brand-new. The first point is a good convenience, the second is a huge deal-breaker.
@@TheGrenadier97 And I agree. But the good news is that you can make a similar SKX style, or even a homage, for a bargain. My point really is that 4R36/7S26 is a much better movement than the Miyota 8200 series.
@@winstonlanda7731In regards to the uneven lume application on the NY0040 - the latest version which came out a year or so ago has fixed that issue. Both the hands and dial plots glow at the same brightness and perform as good as the SKX.
@winstonlanda7731 that's a fake Frankenstein watch sorry I would just get 1 from the PI there not all original but for around 200 I will take a chance ❤
I sold my SkX009K2 about a year ago, been regretting it ever since, so I pulled the trigger and bid on a skx009k2 on ebay and won the bid for 184 bucks, not bad and its in mint condition, this time around I wont be selling it
I purchased my 007 for $180 USD and $190 USD for my 009. Love my SKX and glad I never modded it and kept it original. Still in my watch box after so many years amongst much more expensive pieces.
I have the 007j, 009j, 011j, and a35k all mint on oem jubilee bracelets. If I gave up all my other watches, I would be cool with this 4 watch collection. They are legends and so fun to wear.
I bought my SKX for the market price the year before it was discontinued, and I still wear it regular on the floppy bracelet, despite owning other, more capable watches, and having bought and sold other more superior Seiko divers (Turtle, Samurai, Solar Tuna, Sumo). I think the appeal of the SKX comes from its place as the final chapter in an unbroken legacy of mechanical divers, its wearable size, and for many (including myself), it’s their first mechanical watch. Would I buy one or repurchase one now, knowing what I do about it? Absolutely not, I would buy a King Turtle, but I’m glad I bought it at the right price.
Brilliant video. Love the part where you're talking about passing this watch on to your Son, I hope the fella is still enjoying it and does so for many years to come.
I have had mine over 10 years and runs within specs! Those that don’t get the appeal value never will. That said I find it hard to believe that they are going for over $500. I also have an original Orange Monster and Black Knight quartz. The Black Knight has a nice case design and dial, surprised they didn’t become more of a collector piece!
It was a classic, still is always will be but those scalpers out there capitalising on seiko ceasing production is just the work of seikopaths. Kind of sad I had so many 007s/009s and always moved them on the forums for £120/£150 depending if it’s a J or a K . Wish I’d kept them it’s a stunner still and as pointed out in the video was my first entry point into WIS watches
I have the SKX007J and it's a wonderful diver that I've had over 10 years. I've had it serviced once for maintenance and proper regulation and it's still going strong today. I paid $210 for it back then!
@@karlsenula9495 No way and I can say that because I already have one. I can't speak for those who don't have one. It depends on how badly one wants to experience owning an iconic ISO-certified classic watch. Sellers can charge that much because there must be a demand. Anything, and I mean anything is worth how much one is willing to pay for it. Does that answer your question?.
I own a Brietling, Tissot and a Tag…..why do I keep putting on my SKX009 Pepsi? I love this watch, I get more compliments on my Seiko than my other watches.
I certainly wouldn't pay that for one. But I'll sell you an as new, Japan made one for that, no problems. I bought one about two and a half years ago for what I thought was far too much money then. So it goes in the world of collecting. Nice video, thanks.
dime a dozen for Frankensteins and used skx or modded to crap but a new with paper and tags you can see were the prices is goind and its going WAYUP AND UP can't wait to see the prices for a brand new with tags in 5 years.
Ah cool I have two that are brand new Japanese versions that I bought for about $400 four years ago and just put in the cupboard. I think I'll sell them both for $1500 per piece :D
Hi Peter great review im a fellow collector im fortunate to own both the 007 & 009 these watches are icons Timeless got them on a juibilee bracelet & curved rubber respectively & i rotate them in my collection like a couple of guys also commented great your son is enjoying his pepsi he will always cherish that watch good on yar mate from the UK.
Two years ago, I bought a 2018 SKX for 260USD. That was a great ;price even then. The case was in near mint condition. The movement turned out to be a problem; I've sent it in to the Seiko repair in New Jersey. Seiko should have just updated the movement with a 4R, and changed nothing else. Called it the 008.
I buyed a SKX031 2 days ago and its beautiful the crown is at 3 o clock and its cost 180€ from the first owner with box papers and the first bill Its a good watch guys buy it when you have the chance Have a nice day ciaaaoo
The “J” models are a scam! Seiko does not make that breed of lower end watch in Japan! The made in Japan monicker just means that it was made for the Japanese market. They are all built, exactly the same factory in Malaysia, with the same parts in the same computers! Paying extra Thinking you’re getting a better one because it’s made in Japan is a Farce! Shame on Seiko for being so shady. All those watches all those movements are all made in Malaysia 100% not in Japan, not assembled in Japan. There’s absolutely zero difference between a J and a K model, in fact I believe the “K” models are more rare! Meh!
I have a 009 (GMT mod) but I’ve always wanted a 007 as well. So I ordered the factory dial, hands and chapter ring so that I could build the ultimate version with all the upgrades❤
I have 5 Seikos. Three Turtles, Marinemaster and a SKX009J. The SKX has the most character of them all and would be the last Seiko I'd sell. It's Seiko's version of the pre-ceramic Submariner.

You will be able to buy a new old stock skx for a few thousand in a few years... if you can find one. Nothing that came out on the market from Seiko in recent years (5kx line, Turtle, Prospex) or other models are like skx..whatever some say. It is already considered vintage since it is from 1996, but they are also rare because no one really sells the SKX007 anymore, being very collectable. It will be quite difficult to catch an unmodified skx. I personally just bought 3 new old stock from an individual who had 6 skx007, brand new, $240 each. When I called to get more..they were already sold...
Got skx 09 j1 2017 new £160 didn’t really like it that much until I put it on a jubile By 2022 wanted 07 j1 but could only get a 07 k1 and payed £230 now love them both and don’t plan on selling
I got one for my brother for his graduation right before they got discontinued and the prices shot up and he still wears it as his only watch. I always think of him when I see one. The best part about the mod culture is that you can rebuild one from parts.
Bought my 009 back in 2015 for about £140, then a couple years later got the smaller brother 013 for similar money. Wear both alternatively for Seiko Saturday week in and out..
I’ve got an old SKX007 without the original jubilee and with a dodgy movement and some scratches on the crystal that hasn’t been worn for a couple of years. Thought I might get £50 for it if I’m lucky but this made me think. Ps none of the 7s26 movements in my watches have kept accuracy, I’ve tried regulating them but they just get out again. Maybe I’ve been unlucky. Enjoyable video though!
@@gavinhogg843 Seiko movements have a bad reputation of starting to drift. I can tell out of experience. And the quality controll is on / off. A Seiko is a miss or a hit. I have both. Luckily my SKX 013 is the latter.
I wouldn’t pay $1600. But I’d pay $300-450 which is what I’ve seen some go for second hand. I also have considered Islander watches, which make a modern SKX “homage” with sapphire crystal, NH35 etc that’s compatible with SKX mod parts.
Enjoyed the video! Personally, I'm yet to see a modded SKX that I like more than the stock version. The reason it's so successful is it's design. As for the prices going into the several thousand, I doubt this will happen, even 10 years from now. Seiko just made too many. Maybe for a NOS watch from the early years of the production, but certainly not for most SKXs. P. S. I think the SKX is proof that a watch is way more than its specs. It always used to get criticized for having no hand-winding and hacking capabilities, and a hardlex crystal. I can tell you I've had one for about 7 years, and the bezel insert is quite scratched, but the crystal is pristine. It's not a fragile as people think. As for the hand-winding and hacking, I never missed them. They're nice to have, but not essential.
If you look at the history of Seiko scuba watches the SKX series was the most loved. Based on past sales the Seiko SKX in brand new condition, never opened or used with original box and paper work could be worth as high a $10,000 to $15,000 if held long term
@@PeterKotsa Do you know Peter I was going to mod it, sapphire crystal. Slim bezel and sloped bezel insert but I think I’m going to leave it as original.
seiko is out of their minds right now. My last seiko purchase was spb121j1 and it has the updated 6r35 movement which runs +/-25 sec a day. My older seiko 5sport with 7s36 runs at +/-10sec a day and its like $150. New stuff isn't always better. With less than 1600aud you can buy a Certina DS action titanium 38mm. It has 300WR with iso6425, nevichron hairspring, antimagnetic, and diver extension, and mine runs at cosc standard with +/-2sec a day. I feel bad for the new watch enthusiast when they have very little money to spend on this hobby and get seiko as a general recommendation for their first watch. There are better options out there nowadays. Personally I'm boycotting seiko ATM. Great video again!
I managed to get a skx013 and 007 before they got discontinued. I also wear much more expensive timepieces but very often come back to these 2. Awesome watches !
Absolutely nuts. But Robert Redford had a rare SKX401 (limited to the Philippine market) which quickly became the prized version, fetching several times the price of an SKX007. I had an SKX401 too and the build quality was much better than those made in Malaysia.
the market is full of modded SKX's and naturally few originals are left untouched now, original untouched good condition examples are following the trajectory of the 6105 8110 willard in terms of prices. it's styling is iconic and it's name is legendary 🔥🔥🔥
Watches are collectibles, watches are not investments. In the short term, at least compared with our human existence, we see the prices going up for certain models/brands. In the long run, it will not stay this way. Watches are consumer goods, they are consumed by us (users), time etc.
You can make your own from parts. You don't have to pay that insane cost. You can get someone to build the SKX from parts cheaper than the insane prices. Mark from Long Island Watches started his business from assembling Seiko classics.
I just bought one for $270...not sure why anyone would pay $1600 for one of these. If they are such great watches, and they are, then you shouldn't be scared to buy one used.
I managed to pick up a 007J model right at the end of 2019, with that last year of production serial number, for $329 USD. I wanted to grab the 009, but it's way out of my price range now. I'm seeing them BNIB, for over 1200. Needless to say, it'll never see water again. That is reserved for my Citizen ProMaster EcoDrive, in basic black.
Never bought the SKX009 but instead bought the predecessor to the SKX013 in the late 90s. I do not remmber the model number but it had the same hands and the case as the SKX013 with markers all applied rather than printed, also the twelve o'clock marker was double index rather than triangle. It came with faux five link hollow bracelet and steel rotating bezel without insert. I bought it for around 150 USD back then, and for the following 15 years, it served me very well. It was very reliable and I had no issue with its accuracy. I lost it when I returned from a work overseas but I still miss it a lot even though my collection had grown much larger with much more expensive watches. As 5KX line has lost the charm that came with the SKX line, I hope someday Seiko reissues the SKX series however improbable.
Just bought the seiko 5 GMT! I was looking at the SKX but could not bring myself to pay that much. The gmt is awesome and has the genes and dna of the SKX as it's base design. I bought the citizen promaster and have it all for much much less.
For a desk diver like me, I am not gonna pay that much for it. Have bought the 013 at a normal price so that watch isn't going anywhere. Got the skx homage in titanium form with samurai dial and hands from Heimdallr for under usd200, so there is no way that I am just gonna get an ISO skx for that kinda price. My Citizen prodiver aka ISO compliant cost much less although an evodrive Edit: my Heimdallr skx comes with aligned chapter ring while my 013, misaligned LOL Seiko's QC dropped..none of my newer Seiko 5 has aligned chapter ring while my latest snoopy field/flieger has uneven application of lume on hand. I would go for Citizen for sure if not for their larger cases design
After hearing this, I certainly won't be selling my unworn SKX007 and SKX011 anytime soon. Had I known they would be discontinued I would have bought more.
As a owner of SKX007K2 and wearer exlusivly that particular watch for more then 5 years I can say this: I never needed handwinding and hacking. It is a AUTOMATIC watch for a reason. Please stop spreading BS that any automatic watch need handwinding and hacking. If you really wanna stop second hand for any reason you can do this by simply unwind crown, pull to time setting (second position) and slightly turn anti clockwise and second hand will stop. Simple as that.
All those who "modded" their SKX watches.... ironic how only the unmoved would command the higher prices now. I never mod anything I buy. My 009 is mint with box, but I'm not selling!🙂
ive had the white face Daytona ,didn't keep good time and it had too much attention today and since the 80s I wear the tuna daily lost the 75 model cliff diving big island ,I bought a skx013 37mm love it and I bought a new tuna sbbn031 just like the one I lost except the movement is miles ahead. love seiko and won't sell em you can't take Rolex in the ocean. true ask a watch shop.
The ebay $1600 price tag is not a realistic indicator at all; nor do we know if they're actually selling at that price. Facebook forums etc are a much better indicator, where a good example might fetch up to $600. Regular, slightly beaten up examples fetch $350-400. This set of figures is a better yardstick to understand their value.
I couldn't stand the 7S26 movement in my SKX, sp I swapped in an NH35. I own plenty other ISO rated Seiko dive watches, so the new Seiko 5 Sports watches don't bother me. Since the majority of SKX owners don't go SCUBA diving, 100 meters water resistance is all they need. I like not needing to unscrew the crown to wind my Seiko 5 Sports warches.
i have a NOS 97 007K1 AND 94 7002-7000 NOS (VERY RARE) AND I HAVE A BRAND NEW SKX009J WITH TAGS. I would say the first time when they compared the skx to the submariner many years ago i saw the crown design located at the 4 o'clock and i instantly fell in love ❤️ i would say it was love at first sight love the Masterpiece seiko designed.
After owning 100’s of watches, I believe that the SKX is a special watch. There’s something about the design that is timeless.
Agreed
It's rolexy type
100%. No matter what I happen to have in my watch box, I always find myself wearing the 007 the most.
I agree 1000% after owning swiss pieces
And still weirdly always getting lured back to the SKX

I love my SKX. Wear it daily and it’s iconic and indestructible. I think it’s far more bizarre to pay £20K+ for a Rolex or any watch.
Nice. Glad I've got the SKX007J1 with box and papers in my collection!
Nice review. I own a 007k and its my daily driver. Its pretty special even among today's line ups. If you have one, never let it go.
Picked up my first SKX007K1 a little over a month ago and it has yet to come off my wrist. Luckily one came up at a great price so I grabbed it, it really is a good looking everyday workhorse of a watch. Surprisingly comfortable too
congratulations
Just a great looking watch. Hard to beat.
Right iconic status means LEGEND.
I paid 650 usd for my 009j1 with tags brand new 😢
I have the 007j, 009j, 011j, and a35k all mint on oem jubilee bracelets.
Well said!
Brilliant video. Love the part where you're talking about passing this watch on to your Son, I hope the fella is still enjoying it and does so for many years to come.
Just picked up an SKX with Box and papers for 300$. Solid Christmas gift for a friend
As long as you can cope with the limitations of 7S26 movement, the SKX is a watch worth having some wrist time with.
Not 1200$ worth
Yes,the movement is very inaccurate.
I bought skx009 in 2009 and it's my favourite one.
I bought the 007 years ago at retail price and I probably wore it 5 times. I had no idea it's worth that much now.
if you have papers and all don't wear it anymore put away but it really has to be like totally new status and watch in 5 years good luck🙏❤️
@@seikoskx Why, it's not like I'm ever going to sell any of my watches :)) I only buy keepers.
I have the SKX007J and it's a wonderful diver that I've had over 10 years. I've had it serviced once for maintenance and proper regulation and it's still going strong today. I paid $210 for it back then!
I get it - it used to be considered the best value watch for a while. BUT would you pay $1600 for it today???
@@karlsenula9495 No way and I can say that because I already have one. I can't speak for those who don't have one. It depends on how badly one wants to experience owning an iconic ISO-certified classic watch. Sellers can charge that much because there must be a demand. Anything, and I mean anything is worth how much one is willing to pay for it. Does that answer your question?.
I own a Brietling, Tissot and a Tag…..why do I keep putting on my SKX009 Pepsi? I love this watch, I get more compliments on my Seiko than my other watches.
Same for me, i own swiss pieces and i always find myself wearing the SKX more often and in moving walks alot
I certainly wouldn't pay that for one. But I'll sell you an as new, Japan made one for that, no problems. I bought one about two and a half years ago for what I thought was far too much money then. So it goes in the world of collecting. Nice video, thanks.
The SKX was already discontinued when I started into watch enthusiasm. I've never known it to be a cheap watch. 😢
dime a dozen for Frankensteins and used skx or modded to crap but a new with paper and tags you can see were the prices is goind and its going WAYUP AND UP can't wait to see the prices for a brand new with tags in 5 years.
195USD for a service/repair on the movement, a new crystal and a chapter ring alignment. I haven't taken it off since I got it back.
I buyed a SKX031 2 days ago and its beautiful the crown is at 3 o clock and its cost 180€ from the first owner with box papers and the first bill
Its a good watch guys buy it when you have the chance
Have a nice day ciaaaoo
I have The 007j and 009j paid around $200 AUD each! Definitely my first getaway into the wonderful Seiko 🤩 still part of the rotation till this day 😜
The “J” models are a scam! Meh!
@@Marythundermug okay thank you for your explanation! Will keep that in mind for my future purchases 🤣
I own the same watch ( pepsi ) J1 version. I love pepsi watches.
Got skx 09 j1 2017 new £160 didn’t really like it that much until I put it on a jubile By 2022 wanted 07 j1 but could only get a 07 k1 and payed £230 now love them both and don’t plan on selling
congratulations and don't sell period!!!!
Yes I have had mine regulated several times by a watch repairer but within several months always looses time.
Islander watches are awesome and we'll built! 👍
The SKX can still be bought brand new for US$365-450 depending on the configuration.
you can buy used and Frankensteined watches for that price good luck...
"keep it fun, keep it light, keep it real." words of wisdom. 👌
The only modding I'd consider would be a sapphire crystal.
absolutely right modding to me is breaking and damaging your watch. 👍
Never got the 'SKX' thing. Perhaps at the original price, perhaps.
I hope someone eventually will, I bought 2 of them at $350 a pop 2 years ago when I heard Seiko discontinued them xD
If you look at the history of Seiko scuba watches the SKX series was the most loved. Based on past sales the Seiko SKX in brand new condition, never opened or used with original box and paper work could be worth as high a $10,000 to $15,000 if held long term
Wow, seriously?
really wow !!!!how about a vintage NOS 97 SKX 007K1? I PURCHASED ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO NEVER USED PRATICALLY BRAND NEW.
@@seikoskx If never used and new in box with original papers , tags and stickers and manuals it would be worth a premium to the above, as it is the K1
Bought one last month off eBay for £185. Going by the case back it’s from 1997. The movement is due a service but apart from that it’s in great nick.
Excellent pickup, especially a 97 model..enjoy 👍
@@PeterKotsa Do you know Peter I was going to mod it, sapphire crystal. Slim bezel and sloped bezel insert but I think I’m going to leave it as original.
mod it.....😅 just kidding
@@seikoskx I did in the end. Got all the parts from Namokimods.
Thanks Pete, great video
Thanks 👍
Seiko will reissue it in the future, you just have to be patient.
yes and it will be limited and probably priced around 3k 😮 me I would take an original over a reissue get 1 now before there all gone 😢
seiko is out of their minds right now.
I have the SKX007J and I just had it serviced. Strange that the service cost as much as I paid for it. I’ll be keeping it as long as I’m able.
Happy Fathers Day my friend Hope all is well down under Thanks for sharing as always Be well 👍
Thanks 👍
I managed to get a skx013 and 007 before they got discontinued. I also wear much more expensive timepieces but very often come back to these 2. Awesome watches !
Absolutely nuts. But Robert Redford had a rare SKX401 (limited to the Philippine market) which quickly became the prized version, fetching several times the price of an SKX007. I had an SKX401 too and the build quality was much better than those made in Malaysia.
As someone who used to wear a 7S26-based Seiko some time ago, I don't quite get why stand all its inconveniences, let alone overpay for them.
the market is full of modded SKX's and naturally few originals are left untouched now, original untouched good condition examples are following the trajectory of the 6105 8110 willard in terms of prices. it's styling is iconic and it's name is legendary 🔥🔥🔥
Watches are collectibles, watches are not investments. In the short term, at least compared with our human existence, we see the prices going up for certain models/brands. In the long run, it will not stay this way. Watches are consumer goods, they are consumed by us (users), time etc.
mines for investment buddy watch in 10 years 😮😮😮😮😮
I just recently built 2 SKX009 mods. Love the classic looks but also appreciate the upgrades I made to movement and crystal.
Gotta love an SKX Peter.👍🏼😎
You can make your own from parts. You don't have to pay that insane cost. You can get someone to build the SKX from parts cheaper than the insane prices. Mark from Long Island Watches started his business from assembling Seiko classics.
I just bought one for $270...not sure why anyone would pay $1600 for one of these. If they are such great watches, and they are, then you shouldn't be scared to buy one used.
I bought a brand new SKX009J1 last year - it’s already doubled in price from the same seller
I bought the citizen promaster and have it all for much much less.
how much were they asking 🤔
It already has the neo vintage look in the stock jubilee
I bought mine for £250 brand new in 2019 and I have never modded it, this and my Tudor BB36 are the watches that I will never sell.
These are running 300-500 range now in the U.S. @ this moment.
yes Frankensteins plenty from Philippines...
where did you get that navy rubber strap? it looks great!
eBay, years ago...
The skx is the best seiko watch of all times imo.
maybe all time best iconic status. ❤
Agree 100%
For a desk diver like me, I am not gonna pay that much for it. Have bought the 013 at a normal price so that watch isn't going anywhere. Got the skx homage in titanium form with samurai dial and hands from Heimdallr for under usd200, so there is no way that I am just gonna get an ISO skx for that kinda price. My Citizen prodiver aka ISO compliant cost much less although an evodrive
Edit: my Heimdallr skx comes with aligned chapter ring while my 013, misaligned LOL Seiko's QC dropped..none of my newer Seiko 5 has aligned chapter ring while my latest snoopy field/flieger has uneven application of lume on hand. I would go for Citizen for sure if not for their larger cases design
After hearing this, I certainly won't be selling my unworn SKX007 and SKX011 anytime soon. Had I known they would be discontinued I would have bought more.
me neither 🫣
As a owner of SKX007K2 and wearer exlusivly that particular watch for more then 5 years I can say this: I never needed handwinding and hacking. It is a AUTOMATIC watch for a reason. Please stop spreading BS that any automatic watch need handwinding and hacking. If you really wanna stop second hand for any reason you can do this by simply unwind crown, pull to time setting (second position) and slightly turn anti clockwise and second hand will stop. Simple as that.
Holy shit, I'm sitting on a gold mine of half a dozen
Sell Sell Sell 😂
wow
back in the 90's i remember my uncle has this watch and he shake this watch in the morning and in the evening.
I keep my NOS JDM SKX007 in a draw unworn for the day they can be exchanged for a Rolex 🙂
Hahaha..don't hold you're breath 😊🤪
As the way things are going it may be sooner than you think.
All those who "modded" their SKX watches.... ironic how only the unmoved would command the higher prices now. I never mod anything I buy. My 009 is mint with box, but I'm not selling!🙂
Somehow I ended up with six of these. Five untouched. 😮
ive had the white face Daytona ,didn't keep good time and it had too much attention today and since the 80s I wear the tuna daily lost the 75 model cliff diving big island ,I bought a skx013 37mm love it and I bought a new tuna sbbn031 just like the one I lost except the movement is miles ahead. love seiko and won't sell em you can't take Rolex in the ocean. true ask a watch shop.
Bought an SKX in 2015 for £125 the same shop was selling it for £760 last week, LOL.
Same man. The SKX is my favorite watch of all time. It's perfect.
