Please tell me you sold that for several thousand. There's got to be a market for upper class people looking for superior finish antiques willing to pay for the work.
@@cornchips007not around here there isn’t. That’s what I meant in the video but it possibly being different in other areas. But around here, people can barely afford groceries right now. :-(
You NEVER cease to amaze!! Wow. My birthday was Nov 10th. Although I’m not exactly the same age as this piece, I asked my Hubble to consider getting that piece from you. 🇨🇦😊
For those who seem confused by my pronunciation of the word decal, please understand there are technically three accepted ways to pronounce it. Some parts of Canada (where I am from) primarily say "deck-uhl", while most of the US says "dee-cal". Some of you have inquired about this in a very respectful way, but a few haven't, which is unfortunate because what makes this world amazing; all of our differences, and language and dialects are parts of that. There is life beyond where we all are from so let's just be polite, eh?
I'm 100% Texan w/ a heavy twang and drawl. Took me 2 seconds to figure it out. I admire everything about who you are and all your talents. Haters gonna hate, hate, hate. Middle finger to 'em all! ❤
I hope you know that for every comment questioning your decisions there are hundreds (or thousands) of us that are in awe of your work and learning a ton from you! This is breathtaking.
Last year, I bought a $35 stereo and decided to rebuild it for a friend. This one was a Motorola from 1965. The cabinet wood wasn't in bad shape so I immediately started stripping it down. The record player turned out to be a mechanical record changer. I took it apart and repaired a few broken plastic parts and cleaned it thoroughly. I got the record changer working but had to scrap the tuner and amp because of dried up electrolytic capacitors. I installed a new Bluetooth amp and a fresh set of 6.5" component speakers and redid the fabric speaker grills. The finished unit is very nostalgic to listen to. As nice as it turned out, I will never do another again. I ruined all other projects in my shop because of the mess it caused. Also, getting parts for antique record players is a pain.
This is my new Zen place! I don't know why, but I find watching furniture restoration sooooooo soothing. Will never attempt any of this myself, but I love to watch the work.
the downside of following this channel from the other side of the globe is that i have to chose between getting enough rest and staying up to watch this video right when it drops. either way, dear Angie, amazing work!
I grew up with these! The most memorable thing about them for me was the way they smelled when in use. The electrical components would heat up the cabinet and this delightful scent of wood, shellac and polish would drift out as you sat close to them. Evokes happy memories!
We didn’t have this wonderful piece of furniture, but we did have a radio built into a kitchen cupboard . Looking into the kitchen from the dinning room you could see the veneer and the radio light up. It was lots of fun cooking dancing and singing in the kitchen with my darling Mum and my siblings. I hope you keep this piece and the both of you dance around either romantically, or like complete idiots as we did.
Angie, you are my hero. I'm a retired broadcast journalist and a collector of old radios. What you have done warmed my heart. I wish I lived closer so I could have purchased that magnificent restoration. We love watching you create beauty. Much love, Dave & Amy.❤
Thank you so much for dispelling the myths that flipping is easy, furniture doesn’t need prepped, chalk paint is the only finish you need and worst, that you can flip a piece in two hours and produce quality furniture . I’ve learned so much from watching your videos and think you’re quite wonderful and inspirational 😊
My father had a Viking radio. He worked with my uncle restoring and refurnishing furniture- so he fixed it up and sold it. However, he held on to a Grundig stereo cabinet and Grundig radio that he listened to until he passed three years ago at 97 years of age. That’s why I love your channel so much. Watching the love and care you put into each piece- somehow it brings me close to him. This adventure was so exciting- and as always, turned out absolutely gorgeous!
For those who don’t know, “Viking” was the house brand for a lovely old Canadian department store chain called Eatons. It was considered a little bit more upscale than the Hudson Bay Company or Simpson Sears (a fore runner of Sears in Canada). Unfortunately, we lost this store back in the late 90s due to mismanagement. 😊
Oh, really? I did not know that. My dad loves restoring old radios like this back to straight from the factory condition. Has done it for the last 14 years. His biggest gems are the Philcos. I actually have one he restored from the 1920s that has one of the earliest wireless remote controls that actually looks like the base of an old rotary telephone.
@@anklebiterwoodworks2818i have my dads Philco right here. Gorgeous burl wood. It has turntable drawer that can be hidden, radio which includes shortwave. Its working just really dusty.
Oh is that where is piece is from I just assumed it was Viking like the sewing machine... or are they all the same since Viking was bought out by a company I can't pronounce.
Ladies, I am 75 years old, I remember sitting in my grandparents living room and listening to old time radio shows on a similar set. I got tears in my eyes when you were finished. Thank you so much for the memories. My daughter is an electrician, can repair cars and is beautiful like both of you. I dabble in repairing and restoring easy wood items, and have built a thing or two. My mother was able to build and grow anything, so I grew up in a home with no limits on what we could achieve. From this great granny, I love you and all your fur babies. May God bless you richly. The pic is of my great grandson, not me.
This is freaking amazing. I love your confidence. After watching the incredible work you do, I finally got the guts up to refinish the antique Hepplewhite-style buffet I inherited from my grandma that I painted years ago when I was young and didn't care enough to know better than to paint that beautiful mahogany. I've been working on it for 3 weeks but its finally down to the beautiful bare wood and ready for stain tomorrow. I've been so slow getting to this point because I've been so terrified I'll mess it up, but whenever I get stuck I just go back and rewatch some of your videos. I'm so grateful to you for sharing your knowledge, you're helping save a valuable heirloom!!
Oh my! By far the BEST work you’ve done yet! So impressive! Congratulations on such wonderful work between you and Andrea. And the kittens were adorable
But you can reconstitute shellac by adding more with some denatured alcohol!! Just kidding-not a hater. I guess it’s true with something that just needs aa little refreshing, not something like this. I did want to add a caution to others though, I had an old Zenith tv cabinet that belonged to my husbands grandmother. Not in as bad shape, I thought I could get away with just redoing the doors and top. Can’t remember what solvent I used on the doors after I took it off but it turns out the beautiful burled finish was “painted” on under the shellac. So I ended up with plain old boring doors. My husband hasn’t decided what he wants to do with it so it’s not completely finished now.
The connection between youtubers and their viewers is very much like family. There are the know-it-all big brothers, the jealous sisters, the maturity mamas and the "stay in the lane" dads, not to mention the crazy uncles and loonie aunts along with the possessive cousins. They all love you and I'm sure you love them as well. As one who has given up television and its fake nonsense (even on news channels) and gone exclusively to watching you tube channels, I feel a closeness to those who provide the content. I can actually talk to them and they to me. I truly enjoy viewing your work and that of so many others and I wish you nothing but greater growth for the channel and your breadth of "family"! BTW, in this genre of videos, I'm particularly partial to you and Trena. What can I say, I love my daughters (I'm a 75 year male veteran and proud grandpa) and seem to always want to adopt more.
@@TranscendFurnitureGalleryexcellent decision, this wonderful piece deserves to be appreciated and who better than the people who lovingly put in the work. Magnificent job!
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery with as much time and effort as both of you put into this one, no wonder you are keeping this labor of love. It is absolutely gorgeous, and I hope it brings you many years of smiles and enjoyment!
The reveal brought tears to my eyes. You and Andrea are AMAZING!!!!! The skill, the know how, the patience, the artistry, the dedication to bring these pieces back from extinction. I can’t say enough. Wow, have you found your calling.
Girl, labor of love is an extreme understatement on this one. But wowza what a result! You both brought this back and have a piece to be proud of that will last for decades. It was a nice surprise to hear Andrea's voice over and see how she helped with the project. Have you actually listened to music on it yet? Love the note, love the knobs. Stunning! 😍
So cool to watch you work. I'm a 60 year old Granma. My Papaw was 1st Generation to the US from Austria/Czechlosvakia. He came across in 1918 at 18 to Angel Island in Los Angeles CA and began a long career as a furniture builder and refinisher and settled in Dallas, TX. It's always amazing to watch you do this intricate work and realize this is what he did everyday of his life. .
Truly amazing. I really love your take "Not all things that are old are valuable" that's a really succinct way to summarize your approach here and obviously it paid off amazingly. Loved your little note with the original certificate too. Really inspiring video, thank you!
Oh my gosh. I know it was a terror of a restoration, but it looks so high end. With turntables making a return to fashion, you’ve created a wonderful merging of history and modern design. My hubby was equally impressed. His parents and grandparents had one when he was a kid and he’s very nostalgic. The creativity and innovation that you channel when you’re creating is amazing and it was great seeing you and Andrea collaborate on this piece. Fabulous as always.
Favorite youtube channel. Ticks all the boxes; calming sounds and narration, pretty outcomes, recycling old things, and its so educational. I literally got so hyped when i saw the community post today that there would be a new video and it was A RADIO???? Tbh the more modern record player makes it more usable for someone to buy today. You should put the old knob in the sleeve with the note
I don’t get to use this word very often, but the final reveal, your masterpiece is “sumptuous” Talented is an understatement 😊 you are wizard btw music goes with the whole package 👌 well done 😊❤🇨🇦
Unbelievably amazing!‼️🖌️🎨📻 You have become quite the wood worker along with furniture refinishing. My step dad used to buy these and redo all the electronics and I would help him. There was a lot of them around that the cabinets just needed to be cleaned up but the electrical components were toast. He was a car mechanic, but was very good with the electrical stuff. TV's radio's and just about anything electric. There was so many repairs involving the tubes. He would have a bunch of old non repairable things he would keep parts from. So he would have parts other people couldn't find or get ahold of. Therefore, he would make more money off of repairing them. People were still using them a lot at the time, so it really helped with side money. I remember all of it fondly. It made me feel so useful helping him with them. I was preteen at the time. It gave me a since of accomplishment and made me feel like I was bringing money in our household as well. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of such good memories. You probably spent to much time and money doing this piece, but I know it was a labor of the heart ❤️ you both did such an absolutely super fantastic job ‼️🥰☺️❤️ five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ thanks again and looking forward to more from you soon 😊
I'm so glad I could bring back some great memories for you - your Dad sounds wonderful! Thank you so much for watching and I'm really glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Just a wonderful restoration and an absolute pleasure to watch!!....You really brought this golden-oldie back to life and did it justice! For me this brought back some fond memories!... When I was a little kid back in the 70s, my parents had a large cabinet/console turntable-with-radio....though it was not nearly as old as the piece you restored lol! In the case of my parents, I think they bought the unit (new) in the 60s or - at the latest - early 70s. It had a longer frontage and the top opened up like a chest to reveal the sunken turntable with an inset radio on the right-hand side (I can't remember the brand...but based on google image searches, I think it might have been an RCA unit). Even though my parents must've had it for several years ....and I must've heard it used hundreds of times.... the only crystal-clear memories I have of it playing anything was at xmas....i.e. my mom had this collection of Reader's Digest holiday records which she'd play on the unit every Christmas-eve night before my sisters and I would be sent to bed (funny how watching a beautiful restoration video can bring these random memories to life!)….
Born in the late 1950's. Survived the 60's and 70's. And during the 70's, while fully enjoying the life of that time, I fell into the old "Thin Man" movies. William Powell and Myrna Loy were, and still are, my definition of style and glamour. With this said, it is not amazing that I LOVE your cabinet.
Hi Angie, thank you for another incredible video. But Omg this one blew my mind! I was actually talking to my phone watching it saying “shut up..she did not just drill through the existing dowels to put new ones in, omgg genius!”😂 This was a jaw dropping, meticulous, absolutely beautiful restoration. Your craftsmanship and artistry are incredible (will keep telling you)and girl, you have the patience of a saint. And before this turns into a novel I’ll wish both you lovely ladies, precious kitties and bunnies much love and happiness.❤️
As a passionate obsessive, I think your choices are superb. I love watching your work and seeing how you tackle problems. I’ve never been disappointed. The bedside cabinets you did, that had been a vanity unit, is the most beautiful restoration I’ve seen online. Absolutely love your videos. Thank you for all the inspiration.
I am speechless, Angie....well almost. Those knobs, were the icing on a most magnificent cake. If there is a new academy award for furniture finishing youtube videos, you have earned it in spades. Bravo! A true tour de force: an impressive performance or achievement that has been accomplished or managed with great skill.
I’m so glad I found your channel! I’m working on my first restoration, a very simple piece (cedar chest), and found you while looking for how-to videos; your passion for these old pieces and your skill at working with them makes for positively lovely videos. Can’t wait to see what you do in the future! Much love from New York!
Wow this has got to be the most amazing piece you have restored yet, it turned out just fabulous and the knobs were a master piece as well as the gold lettering, well done.
I loved stepping back in time with you. I have several pieces that I want to restore, but I have no clue as to where to start. But, after watching your program I can clearly see the bigger picture. I was so glued to your every word and the step by step work that you did. You even went on to help us to count the cost of the restoration process. So helpful and so educational. Thank you for allowing us to come into your home/ workshop to be apart of the new transformation from the old to the new. We appreciate all that you do. Thanks
Every time I watch one of your videos, I am amazed at the results you are able to obtain from the items you started with. This one is your crowning glory, I think! The difference between start to finish, the care and attention to detail, the extra mile of having a professional electrician take care of the electrical work, all show the level of determination you have to make everything as right as it can be. It was lovely to see Andrea working with you on this project and even nicer to hear her explain the work she did. I have been inspired by you to try to tackle a small table from my great-great grandmother that my grandmother was going to get rid of because it is painted and she knew that it wasn't supposed to be originally. At 93, she is not equipped to do the work herself, so when I told her it looks like a solid wood and could be restored, she was extremely happy. I am having a hard time removing that paint, but it will happen. The parts I have cleaned are absolutely gorgeous bare. Top coated they are going to be stunning! Thank you for sharing your stories and work with us - you, Andrea and all of your little fur babies (bosses) are adorable and I wish you all joy, happiness and love.
Ask anyone who's ever been involved in restoration about their passion, and you will get one of two answers. One: do what ever is needed to keep originality and integrity, then keep it safe and on show. Two: revive, resurrect and have fun playing with it. Best expressed with cars, there are museum pieces and there are $60 million dollar Ferraris racing each weekend. What you have demonstrated is FUN. You along with all restorers know that the cost in hours is never really accounted for. Fun is priceless so☕☕🍩🍩 thanks Angie.
😲 Wow, wow, wow!! That turned out gorgeous. Your attention to detail, the knobs, the veneer matching, the decal details, refreshing the things that don't show, are inspiring to watch. Andrea helping to make it work. The outside professional consultant 😺 keeping y'all safe. Just amazing. ❤
I’m an interior designer and have been watching your channel and admiring your craftsmanship as well as your ingenuity as you figure out how you want the finished piece to look and taking your time to get those ideas firmly set. Each piece you bring back from near death is the true self you bring to reclaiming these old pieces into a new life, and they probably will be much enjoyed for decades to come. BRAVO!!!
I love that you went out of your comfort zone on this project, and the result is beautiful. Loved hearing form Andrea, too. I can see why you might not be able to sell this vintage beauty for what you put into it, but it made for a fabulous video, so thank you!
This was a labor of love and it’s stunning! The Odies just makes the wood sparkle and brings a depth to it that makes you want to touch the piece. You did a fabulous job, love it! ❤
WOW! Just ...WOW!! This truly was a family affair- even Good-Man Nacho helped. This job seemed to draw from every tool, trick and technique in your playbook. Your talent is obvious, but your patience and commitment to a project is equally impressive. Well done!
Thank you Angie for rescuing this VERY DIFFICULT, LABOUR INTENSIVE piece! That was amazing to watch. BEAUTIFUL result! (I love the kitties checking everything out!!).
Omg, you do a BEAUTIFUL job on all your work. I’m 73 and love watching your videos. It can get a little stressful (for me) watching you do such time consuming work, but I find your voice so relaxing. You do such awesome work. Keep calm and carry one!
You have become one of my safe places online angie. Not only your work is always stunning but you seem like such a calm and gentle person, it’s just amazing to watch you work!
Oh wow! Incredible - and considering what you had to work with, I was tired just thinking about all the effort it took. :-) As Art Deco pieces are my favorite, I have been anxiously awaiting this video...and you definitely did this 'so sad' piece honor! (and the Tom Swift's fit right in! ;-) You asked if anyone had/has a vintage console - well, here's a story some may find interesting. In the 60's my mom took us kids to a local auction. Now, my mom was never one to gamble or do anything even close to doing something where she may lose money (we did not have much to spare in those days either!) - so the potential of her getting auction fever was something we never would have imagined could happen! The local police department had acquired an estate owned by the Astor family (whose father had died on the Titanic, and one of the richest men in the world at the time - him and his wife wanted their soon to be born child to be born in the US, thus boarding the ship). Included in the auction was a 1940s (?) General Electric Musaphonic stereo console - including an automatic record player, radio, and a loudspeaker - in beautiful walnut crotch veneer. For some reason, my mom 'had' to have that piece! The bidding between her and another started to get 'heated'. She won the bid for a whopping $12! :-) Fast forward 60 years, and I have taken that console with me to every home I've lived in. I am now getting ready to move again - where this, and all my antique furniture, is going to look so out of place (eclectic :-) - but that's ok. It was my mom's special find, so it just has to come along. 🙂
I’ve been I’ll for a while, so this is the first video I’ve seen since last winter. What a beautiful job on such a ratty piece! I remember cases like that from my childhood. I’d love one even today!
Thank you Angie and Andrea! That dusty old cabinet turned out to be a very feisty girl! It is amazing how beautiful it turned out, and I have a lot of respect for all the time and work you put in! This was an absolute pleasure to watch!
I just finished watching your video of this project. I know it was frustrating , expensive ,and time consuming. You both did a wonderful job on this piece. My late uncle had a similar one in his home. I was in awe of the elegance and sheer size of this furniture item . Hope you keep this for yourself and scrounge around for vinyl to enjoy . Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching the progress despite the untold amount of work you put into the project . I’m much older than you but you have my respect and admiration regarding your talent, and attention to detail. Keep doing what you enjoy and I will keep watching .
Oh my gosh, Angie! This thing is absolutely exquisite. I love seeing how meticulous you are and watching the love just pour out of your hands. In my next life, I want to be your apprentice. Well done!
Oh my gosh. It’s magnificent! I am one of those people who flip out when I see the paint come out. Literally makes my soul hurt. You’ve done remarkable work here. You’ve not only restored the beauty, you’ve made a cost effective change for it to play again. I think that’s wonderful. I’m so glad that I came across your channel. Look forward to seeing others. Watching from HTown, Texas 52:15
I understand not everyone likes paint. But people have been painting furniture for literally centuries. It’s not a new fad. One could actually argue that painting a piece IS and BECOMES part of its history. Designers from 50, 100, 150 years ago made some mistakes too, haha- not everything old is valuable or even beautiful. Depression era furniture specifically was made very quickly and often with inferior materials. While that alone offers some historical value, perhaps, that doesn’t always translate into literal value, and a lot of them end up trashed because they just don’t fit in with many modern decor styles. Some things should be left alone. But many could REALLY use an update. Considering the landfill is the alternative, I’m all for the updating of many pieces. And then when THAT style goes out again, the next person can make it their own. To me- that is often more successful than a restoration of something that no one actually wants. I do a lot of full restorations but sometimes a bit of paint on lesser quality wood (and especially plastic laminate coated wood, or Formica) can keep something structurally sound from being tossed just because it’s a bit rough or dated cosmetically. But I like to restore certain woods whenever possible. 🙂
I get it. People like what they like and sometimes that's painted furniture. I don't fault anyone for what they love and absolutely better than going to landfill.
This...my family would adore this. My kid loves vinyl as I do and I shared this video with her. We agree that you are so talented and your love for this is apparent even when they fight back. It's beautiful!
Holy smokes you are one talented lady Angie!!! What an amazing transformation. This is absolutely stunning and such a show stopper. Waiting for this video was well worth the wait.
OMG Angie, I’m speechless! The level of ingenuity, problem solving and resolve are apparent in this project. Thank you for sticking it out. It was a family effort.
OMG! You really out did yourself on this project. It looks AWESOME!🎉 Yes...this truly was a labor of love. But it was so worth it to see the transformation. You and Andrea did an amazing job! Kudos to both of you for sticking with it. 👍 Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Wowee! Your craftsmanship, professionalism, dedication and patience are superb! I would have started crying in frustration a long time ago, shoved it into a corner to forget about, kicked it to the curb for pickup, or set it on fire. You are special indeed! At first I didn’t know what a deckel was…decal…oh! In the USA we emphasize the DEcal. 😉 I totally love your work. You’re awesome! ❤
You are so right about those tall console radios from the past. My husband is a radio collector and belongs to a club for the hobby. The general consensus among the radio club members is that these large consoles take up a lot of room in a home and often the radios inside are not able to be reworked with original guts. Apartment dwellers and tiny home owners as well as radio buffs just don't have the room for them compared to a smaller radio even of the same era. My husband has over 60 small vintage radios but no consoles because of space. So sad to see these lovely lined big pieces go to the rubbish bins because they are real wood. Some people make them into bar carts depending on the style of the front. Thank you for taking the time to redo yours.
Your dedication and professionalism shines through in everything you do. I’m always impressed with your work. I’m sure this was not only a labor of love but a learning experience, too. I’d be very proud to own any piece that you restored, you make them glow! Thanks for taking us on these journeys with you!
Angie you are a magician! So many incredible details you managed to do to return this piece to being a useful addition to someone's home. Nice teamwork with Andrea! Very clever both of you!
Thank you sooooo much for this comment! I've gotten far too many comments from people freaking out because I didn't attempt to repair it. I seriously cannot express how much I appreciate the support. ❤️
So, so beautiful! I really appreciate you going over your decision making process and including mistakes (or rather changing your mind) so we can see how you end up with the finished piece. Anyone would be proud to have this in their home. I didn’t see what the final fabric covering the speaker looked like but I’m sure it was lovely as well.
I'm honestly not sure if I'd look this good when it came out of the shop the first time. Love that you involved your partner in this. Restoring and replacing old electronics is its own little art form and it's neat to see you do both at all at once.
I love your channel. You do magic on forgotten treasures. Luckily I am retired (and today is my 71st birthday) so it was perfectly okay for me to sit up all night watching Chinese CDramas and your videos. I also particularly enjoyed the music you chose. But now it is 9:00am, so I think it must be time for me to go to sleep for a while. I look forward to seeing what discoveries and adventures you will share in the future. 👍🐇🔨🛠️❤
This was certainly a labor of love. I remember seeing the "glass finish" on your Instagram post. Turned out just lovely, you brought life back into a piece of history for many. What great serendipity that your wife is also an electrician. Yay Andrea.
Wow, it’s beautiful, great job. My mom was born in 1928 and she told me stories about how her family sat around the radio and would listen to shows. Thanks for preserving history.
Amazing! I’m just blown away by your expertise! My father had one that was very similar (1940’s) so it was special for me to see how you restored it and how you shared all the challenges. Bless you for your dedication to keeping things authentic ❣️
I just have to say what a beautiful piece you created with the help of your friend. I remained spellbound through the whole episode and applaud your attention to detail. I especially like the way you narrate what you are doing or may have to do, whilst the restoration continues. It makes it easier to understand for novices like me! I used to watch my father tinker in his shed when I was very young. He learned the trade of furniture restoration and French polishing as part of his WW2 wartime rehabilitation. I enjoyed this so much and have subscribed. 🎉
WOW!! I hope that y’all are keeping this Beauty for your home!! You will never find another like it! You Ladies did this remarkable transformation with detail together!! LOVE❤❤❤
OMG, this is my favorite piece that you've done!! It reminds me of my late father's record cabinet. I blew the speakers when I was young, and I pulled the back off it. I glued down some cheap speakers in the speaker cavity and swapped the wires. I showed him after I moved out of the house. He said that he never noticed. He used all day on Sundays. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face.
I have a new "Best In Show" now. 😲 It was the rescued vanity made into 2 night stands, but this old radio bumped them off the gold podium.😂 My maternal grandmother had just the radio version of these big cabinet pieces in her sitting room. You really did a wonderful thing by restoring this, Angie. Also, much appreciation to Nacho and Andrea for their contributions. I can't remember now if you also made the radio work. 🤔 I may have to watch this again. 🙄 😛 Thoroughly enjoyable Sunday viewing. See you next time. 😁🤩😘🤗😻👍👋
I am literally crying because this my grandmother Beatrice’s victrola.......wowsers! The beautiful burled sides and those knobs that you reproduced are breathtaking! You two ladies are INCREDIBLE!
I'm sorry this was such a challenge but as always you not only rose to it, you surpassed the challenge, hands down!🙌❤😍The cabinet is stunning! I think my grandparents had a radio similar to this one. I hope you get many years of enjoyment listening to wonderful music coming from the resurrected piece.
❤❤❤ You are soooo incredibly talented! I’m beyond words…..this transformation, like all your others, restores the beauty and integrity of each and every piece! Pieces that surely would have been destined for the landfill are given a new life! The work that Andrea did to keep the original aesthetic of the lights and the workings of the piece are Amazing! I LOVE your channel and the work you do. Also props to Nacho for his QC work and evaluation of this piece!
A one hour special, wow! Angie, this is by far, the best piece you've done imho. It's so much more interesting than an average coffee table or dresser. And to think you held back for (sensible) commercial reasons is quite astonishing. The finished look is nothing short of amazing. I think you'll find retro furniture like this sells for more than you think. Brand name aside, I've seen items like this sell for thousands. I'd love to see something like this incorporate a drinks cabinet as well. I know you felt you spent too long on this one but bravo, really. It's awesome.
This is actually insane, Angie!!! The perfect marriage of refinished to its old glory and updated to suit a modern music lover. I am in awe of your talent, attention-to-detail, craftsmanship, and best of all, kind and empathetic heart. You truly are one in a million! Glad to see Andrea featuring in more videos as well! An electrician + a woodworker = a true power couple ;) Lots of love from Illinois!
OMG!! To me this is your best!! You have taken your talent to another level, and I can only imagine what someone would be willing to pay for a piece like this. I know I would jump at the opportunity to buy this, but you don't ship to Oregon. My husband has a collection of 60's and 70's LP s that haven't been played in years. He collected them as a young man in those days. Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Nobody has yet mentioned that Viking was the Eaton's store-brand, so this piece was originally sold here in Canada. The old catalogues are available (albeit not online), so the original retail price and date range of production is readily ascertainable. My Parents owned a similar cabinet into the mid-1970s. I think that it still worked then, but it was rarely used. It disappeared when the living room was renovated.
This was one of the best videos ever!!! It was great having your other half in it, working beside you! And this piece is GORGEOUS!!! You both did great on this!😊 Can't wait for the next one... love your channel! ❤❤
Another beautiful job. A true restoration. That's what I appreciate about you. You maintain the integrity of your work rather than throwing up your hands and just painting it as others might do because of the enormous amount of time and effort spent to return it to its original glory and better!
W O W because there are no words, Angie! You're so diligent and amazing! I loved Andrea also working with you on this project! Hopefully we will see her more, doing voiceovers as well! Loved every minute of this video! Hugs to all of you, to Nachito, and all the pets! =)
I grew up with my dad doing this kind of antique furniture restoration. I love your channel. I worked with him some, just doing the stripping, so I couldn’t do a piece like this. My husband worked for him while he went to college and helped restore old radios. They didn’t do the electrical, just the wood restoration. I can really appreciate the work satisfaction you have bringing these old pieces back to life. His work was very satisfying, a lost art, until I found your channel.
The audiophiles are not turning this one off! Seeing these radios saved and converted/modernized into usable, functional furniture that can serve as a great place to enjoy music is what it's all about in my opinion. Plus it's so nice to see some late art deco stuff being restored on RUclips. I'll admit I'm not particularly fond of mcm but anyone who works with wood or in restoration can appreciate how beautiful a lot of the materials on these pieces are and its getting harder and harder to find ones that haven't been bleached or painted over since they're often found in very rough condition for cheap these days. Sadly a lot of the pre-MCM pieces that have been distressed or painted are near impossible to strip due to how fragile/brittle they've become due to age and the condition they were in when they were painted. (as you usually say though, sometimes the damage on antique pieces is extensive enough that painting really is the best option, but you get what I mean) From my experience I think that most people into vintage HiFi would see what you've done and be thrilled because at the end of the day it means one more original saved and one less particle board and plastic Crosley replica of the same aesthetic that ends up broken and in a landfill a year after purchase. Great work! 👍👍👍
I generally tend to like MCM better, but felt like it was ALL I was doing for while. I'm really starting to have a fondness for these art deco ones.. I actually have a few in storage waiting for love. :-)
Hands-down, this is my favorite Flipp you have done so far this year! I love it! I love old radios, and you just inspired me to see if we still have my grandparents out right now and fix it up
Love watching these. I managed to get a 3ft x 3ft oak kitchen table. A replica of my mums table that I as one if 6 children sat around. It became available just after my brother died suddenly and mum got news she was dying. I felt it was sent from god to give me comfort. I paid £100 and stored it in the garage for 2 years. Anyway I managed to find a skilled furniture repairer who will take it apart and bring it back to beauty. I know it’s about 100 years old. Any way he was quoted £575. So in all the table is under £700. It’s a lot of money and more that a brand new dining table, but it’s worth it. People will pay if emotions are attached. I hope your work and the products you bring back to life give someone comfort and joy as I know that table will.
OMG. Such a beautiful restoration of this bygone era. My dad had a radio similar to this, and I loved it. Alas, the tubes burned out and could not be replaced. Does my heart good to see the restoration you have done for this piece.
This looks amazing!!! I see why this took so many hours... It's nice to see your paper crafting and laser skills come in so handy! 😀 It's also great to have an electrician, an inspector and a few cat scans on hand to assist!!! ❤❤❤

I was curious. Thank you for explaining. The way you pronounce it certainly sounds better than the way we in the US pronounce it I think.
It's "deck-uhl" n the UK too.
@@normanbottoh really!! Oh I didn’t realize. I’d read that the US and UK shared that one pronunciation! Love learning new things!

Agree!!
Truth!
Absolutely! So well put!
well articulated, Jen. I agree.
I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Thank you so much! 😊

I grew up with these! The most memorable thing about them for me was the way they smelled when in use. The electrical components would heat up the cabinet and this delightful scent of wood, shellac and polish would drift out as you sat close to them. Evokes happy memories!
I'm glad I could bring back some memories for you! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Thank you so much for that wonderful memory! We are keeping this - I'll keep you posted on the dancing. 😉
Angie, you are my hero. I'm a retired broadcast journalist and a collector of old radios. What you have done warmed my heart. I wish I lived closer so I could have purchased that magnificent restoration. We love watching you create beauty. Much love, Dave & Amy.❤
Thank you so much you two! I'm actually keeping this one for us, I'm so glad you like it!! 😊
You're so welcome! Thank you so much for the great comment!! 😀
Yeah. Like “ditto”…
Breathtaking, glorious, a work of art, thank you
My father had a Viking radio.
Oh I am so glad I can do that for you!! Your Dad sounds like a man after my own heart. Thank you so much for watching! ❤️
Oh! Grundig! Excellent sound!

What a job !!!! Well done, this is stunning 👍😎🐕🦺🐈⬛
I’ll be curious to know how much you’re able to sell it for.
Your attention to detail is what sets you apart from other furniture refinishers. Absolutely gorgeous! 💜
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that! 🙂

I'm so glad I could bring back some great memories for you! Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Thank you so much!

Oh wow! Incredible - and considering what you had to work with, I was tired just thinking about all the effort it took. :-) As Art Deco pieces are my favorite, I have been anxiously awaiting this video...and you definitely did this 'so sad' piece honor! (and the Tom Swift's fit right in! ;-)
You asked if anyone had/has a vintage console - well, here's a story some may find interesting. 🙂
Great story!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with me. Your Mom sounds like a fantastic woman. ❤️

Thank you very much! The best ones tend to fight back, and that's ok. 😉
Holy smokes you are one talented lady Angie!!! What an amazing transformation. This is absolutely stunning and such a show stopper. Waiting for this video was well worth the wait.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it Barb! 🙂
OMG Angie, I’m speechless!
The level of ingenuity, problem solving and resolve are apparent in this project. Thank you for sticking it out. It was a family effort.
It really was! Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
OMG! You really out did yourself on this project. It looks AWESOME!🎉 Yes...this truly was a labor of love. But it was so worth it to see the transformation. You and Andrea did an amazing job! Kudos to both of you for sticking with it. 👍 Thank you so much for sharing this video!
You are so welcome! 😁
Haha yes, most of the US and UK say dee-cal. Technically there’s three ways to say it. Parts of Canada use deck-uhl. :-)
OMG! Your creativity astounds me! So fun to see Andrea working on a project with you! You 2 are the best!
😊
Thank you so much! 😊
This is now my all time favorite furniture flip I have ever seen!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a cabinet like this! Awesome work!
Thank you very much! 😊
Thank you so much Kathy! I really appreciate your comment!!! ❤️
Your dedication and professionalism shines through in everything you do. I’m always impressed with your work. I’m sure this was not only a labor of love but a learning experience, too. I’d be very proud to own any piece that you restored, you make them glow! Thanks for taking us on these journeys with you!
You're most welcome! Thank you so much for watching! 😁
Angie you are a magician! So many incredible details you managed to do to return this piece to being a useful addition to someone's home. Nice teamwork with Andrea! Very clever both of you!
Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
That is incredible. There has to be a vinyl lover out there who would want this. Casting would have been much easier, but the wood knobs look amazing.
We're actually keeping this one for our house. Thank you very much for watching! 😊
Amazing! As one who restores old radios, you made the right call. That chassis was toasted!
Thank you sooooo much for this comment! I've gotten far too many comments from people freaking out because I didn't attempt to repair it. I seriously cannot express how much I appreciate the support. ❤️
Unreal!!! That was so complicated!! Wow!!! There are no words for the amazing job you and Andrea did on this!!!
Thanks! Was fun to tinker a little :)
Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
Glad it was helpful! Thank you very much for watching! 😁
I'm honestly not sure if I'd look this good when it came out of the shop the first time. Love that you involved your partner in this.
Restoring and replacing old electronics is its own little art form and it's neat to see you do both at all at once.
Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
Happy Birthday!!!! I hope you have a wonderful day!
This was certainly a labor of love. I remember seeing the "glass finish" on your Instagram post. Turned out just lovely, you brought life back into a piece of history for many. What great serendipity that your wife is also an electrician. Yay Andrea.
Thank you so much for watching!!! 😀
Wow, it’s beautiful, great job. My mom was born in 1928 and she told me stories about how her family sat around the radio and would listen to shows. Thanks for preserving history.
You're so welcome! Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
Amazing! I’m just blown away by your expertise! My father had one that was very similar (1940’s) so it was special for me to see how you restored it and how you shared all the challenges. Bless you for your dedication to keeping things authentic ❣️
Thank you so much for watching! I'm so glad you like how it turned out! 🙂
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to my channel! 😊
WOW!! I hope that y’all are keeping this Beauty for your home!! You will never find another like it! You Ladies did this remarkable transformation with detail together!! LOVE❤❤❤
We are!! Thank you so much for watching!! I'm so glad you like how it turned out. 😊
You're very welcome! Lucky you that Dad never noticed, you must have done a good job! 😀
No - the radio was toast and dangerous. The disassembly starts at the 34:38 timestamp. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
I am literally crying because this my grandmother Beatrice’s victrola.......wowsers! The beautiful burled sides and those knobs that you reproduced are breathtaking! You two ladies are INCREDIBLE!
Oh wow! Thank you very much! 🙂
Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like how it turned out! 😊
I'm actually keeping this one for our house. Thank you so much for watching and I'm so glad you like it! 🙂
Glad you liked it!!
Another beautiful job. A true restoration. That's what I appreciate about you. You maintain the integrity of your work rather than throwing up your hands and just painting it as others might do because of the enormous amount of time and effort spent to return it to its original glory and better!
Thank you so much for watching!
W O W because there are no words, Angie! You're so diligent and amazing! I loved Andrea also working with you on this project! Hopefully we will see her more, doing voiceovers as well! Loved every minute of this video! Hugs to all of you, to Nachito, and all the pets! =)
Thanks so much!! 😀
Well done Angie! Love that you kept functionality for this piece. 😊
Thank you! 😊
Stunning! I know it was a challenge, but the transformation is just gorgeous. Your amazing talent never disappoints.
Thank you so much! ☺️
Thank you so much for sharing that! Your Dad sounds like an artist. ❤️
JUST WOW! Amazing work! Thank you so very much for sharing both yours and Andrea's hard work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
(as you usually say though, sometimes the damage on antique pieces is extensive enough that painting really is the best option, but you get what I mean)
From my experience I think that most people into vintage HiFi would see what you've done and be thrilled because at the end of the day it means one more original saved and one less particle board and plastic Crosley replica of the same aesthetic that ends up broken and in a landfill a year after purchase. Great work!
👍👍👍
I generally tend to like MCM better, but felt like it was ALL I was doing for while. I'm really starting to have a fondness for these art deco ones.. I actually have a few in storage waiting for love. :-)
Hands-down, this is my favorite Flipp you have done so far this year! I love it! I love old radios, and you just inspired me to see if we still have my grandparents out right now and fix it up
Yay!! I'm so glad I could inspire you! Have fun!
Thank you so much for watching!
OMG. Such a beautiful restoration of this bygone era. My dad had a radio similar to this, and I loved it. Alas, the tubes burned out and could not be replaced. Does my heart good to see the restoration you have done for this piece.
I'm so glad you like it! Thank you so much for watching! 🙂
Mind boggling as usual. Very beautiful and always elegant.
Thank you so much 😊
This looks amazing!!! I see why this took so many hours... It's nice to see your paper crafting and laser skills come in so handy! 😀 It's also great to have an electrician, an inspector and a few cat scans on hand to assist!!! ❤❤❤
*Cat scans...hahahaha‼️🤣🤣🤣*
Those cat scans are crucial to the piece!! 🤣 Thanks so much for watching!!
@@TranscendFurnitureGallery *ABSOLUTELY 💯 MY pleasure...come for the furniture restorations; stay for the HUMOR❣️🤣🤣🤣*
