I just implemented everything from episode 1 and this episode. After putting my original audio next to the audio that I changed according to your instructions, my audio's clarity increased dramatically. I'm extremely excited to start filming my next RUclips video tomorrow. My subscribers will love this. Thank you so much.

Subtle, yet positive changes, when your settings are applied to an audiobook recording. I'm *OLD* sir. Broke into radio using Ampex reel-to-reel tapes, grease pencils, editing tape and razor blades that you could never find (because). Digital recording and editing destroyed ten years worth of knowledge and know-how. Plus, I stepped away for a 20-year cup of coffee elsewhere. I just want to say that you really helped. I noticed a difference immediately. I probably need more classroom instruction. Thank you again.

    Hi, Josh!
For several years I watched all kind of Audacity tutorials, and I reached that „OCD” level where I kinda watched almost everything.
I was so confused because every tutorial has a lot of questionable settings.
I am not an sound engineer, I am just a simple person who wanted to improve my voice recordings.
Boosting everything and Normalize-ing after each/few steps was something I suspect is not correct nor logical.
You managed to explain so much better, you bring solid arguments for every step you recommended, and the simple fact you're a sound engineer make me thrust your recommendations.
Usually I avoid writing comments because it is a waste of time (usually no one reads them nor replies) but I wanted to thank you for sharing these precious information with us, and also for taking time to make this tutorial.
Thank you! I subscribed and I am binge watching your whole channel.

DUDE!!! That was AWESOME! I'm just now starting to learn about Audacity and came across your video... it's the REAL "Secret Sauce". I think I also saw the video you might be talking about where the guy normalized after every step because I did see a video like that. When I started this video, I was listening through my speakers but when you started the side-by-side comparison I broke out the headphones because I wanted to hear the comparison in the best possible way. Within the FIRST SECOND I could hear a difference, no joke... your version was just so much FULLER and CLEANER!
If you don't believe me, let's get some expert opinions...
Let's ask Duke from 'Rocky IV' what he thinks...
    Hey Duke, what'd you think?
Duke, "Throw the towel, throw the damn towel!"
Duke agreed and wanted to stop the comparison before somebody got hurt.
Now, let's ask what Tommy from 'The Karate Kid" thought...
Hey Tommy, what'd you think of that side-by-side comparison?
Tommy, "Get 'em a body bag!"
Yep... Tommy thinks it wasn't even close.
Great video, absolutely NO DOUBT about it... your adjustments definitely made a difference.
Thanks for the video, it was well worth it and I did subscribe... you're a good man for helping people.

Great tut. People should remember if you add bass to your voice it may improve your self image, but it makes your words less understandable- and if it's played on one of the infinite number of overly bassy audio systems it sounds really stupid.

I've been trying to find an EQ that works for me and I'm never happy with them. I'm at least 30 episodes in to my podcast and I just tried yours. I think it sounds great and I'll be using it in the future! Perhaps one or two tiny adjustments for my voice/mic, but it sounds great on the sample recording I just did!

Quite an improvement from the first to the second track.
Actually, in the interest of accuracy and understanding for those watching this, you DID boost levels (when you Normalized), and iIt would appear from looking at the files, it would appear the second file (with your 'Male EQ') was boosted more than the first. (I think if you checked RMS levels of both files, the second one is louder). Also it is good to understand that within reason human ears tend to subjectively think louder sounds "better", all things being equal. Of course this was made possible by first reducing levels on unneeded frequencies and the silly Smile EQ, so the point was well made.

    I'm glad I found this.
Equalizer was removed, and it is now either a "Filter Curve" or a "Graphic EQ" in the newest version of Audacity.
I copy-pasted your line into my macro and it's working fine (it is a Filter Curve).
I think it's correct for me to remove my high pass filter since your settings nuke that range out.
I'll check out your other videos, and I hope to find a complete Audacity macro that I can copy-paste. I'm currently struggling with mine:
    NoiseReduction:Use_Preset=""
    Limiter:gain-L="0" gain-R="0" hold="3" makeup="No" thresh="-10" type="HardLimit"
