Morning, the back stop issue is a good point to touch on as a Reds Head off quad sticks is taller than nearly every one's set up meaning there will be a elevation issues for a head shot you need to be closer which you mentioned. It is very hard to find a good BS with such a tall beast. I think a good subject would be an angle test of a flat round as people will then see where it could be improved.
Hi guys, another very interesting video. I’m shooting a .308 also. You mentioned flat trajectory out to 200m, What ammunition are you using? Thanks in advance and keep up the good content.
We both home load and are using light (110-130gr) bullets driven quite quickly (3,000fps+). I think the closest you can get in factory ammunition is the Sako Gamehead in 123gr.
Yes a very opinion based topic. I refuse to head shoot deer for all the factors you identified.... there are too may chances of wounding when head shooting, and in the current climate we need to remain squeeky clean. - Rifle capabilities(group size) - Shooter capabilities (deer) - Atmospherics (wind) - Animal movement (low neck and chest moves the least which is why its the ethical shot) I see your point that you assess the situation first; but isn't this a topic that should not really be discussed on social media in order to prevent inadvertent promotion, causing people to "have a go" especially when you say your game dealer will only accept head shot deer.
An interesting discussion - I’ve certainly found myself choosing shot placements that will minimise carcass damage for the game dealer recently. For me it just means occasionally passing on deer that doesn’t present in a way that allows this, which is a luxury I have as a recreational stalker.
Down to earth and demonstrates the issues when head shooting. Well done guys
Thanks for the feedback John!

@@TheDeercast thanks for the reply and will look at getting some gamehead to try at the range. I’m in ireland and so home loading not an option..
What did u mean by the game dealer will only take head shot deer?
A game dealer near us will only accept head shot deer, they won’t take chest shot deer.
@@TheDeercast I take it the game dealer is some kind of meat processor? That's odd but then again I never used a game processor
@@Jay-zx8fj That's exactly what a game dealer does, buys in and processes a carcass
@@JohnJohnson-xw5dg Thanks

It’s all personal preference and all we can do is point that out and discuss the pro’s and con’s!

A very sensible approach!
