I mean in theory the infinite design is newer, it just has design features reminiscent of the old Reach AR. Like, a couple of things were brought over because they actually were decent, while working on the parts of the AR that were flawed such as its accuracy.
@HeavyWeapons057 if you're playing at a range yes but up close the plasma pistol and ar both bear it when combo with melee. The br was less reliable up close due to its smaller cone of accuracy.
I get it, though. In the vidocs leading up to Halo 3, the Bungie devs mentioned that they really wanted AR fights to come down to who used their grenades & melee best. They didn't want the AR to be the spray-and-pray bullet hose it was in CE (that's the SMG's role now), but rather something that fit better into Halo's golden triangle. Definitely agree that Halo 4’s AR is underrated, but from my experience Halo Infinite has the best feeling AR and it’s definitely the most viable. That’s just my opinion though
The Halo Reach design was made in response to the rise of modern shooters including gun attachments, so Bungie mad the AR look like it’s silhouette was made with gun attachments I.e. the ammo counter looks like it’s mounted to the gun instead of being part of the gun
There’s so much deeper lore to the different variants of each one that stacks up in the chronological place for the time line. Example. Reach Assault rifles are far out because it’s a weapons development planet. The actual change from 60 to 30ish rounds is due to 7.62x51 being way to large to actually fit that many.

If i was using a covenant gun id be using the fuel rod or the brute shot but they ran out of ammo so fast and youd have to switch weapons. Brute shot is weird tho, but effective if used right. I liked using the magnum in multiplayer tho. In most of the halo games the MA5C just feels like a nerf gun doing no damage and constantly needing to be reloaded. Fine for fighting grunts ig but definitely iconic. Crazy it wasnt in halo 2.
Since I'm visually impaired, my brother would always be using the assault rifle whenever we played. I'd always go for shotguns, mag guns, needlers, or energy swords. I'm honestly glad they added so many weapon choices. It really made the game feel welcoming
I’ll be honest, I would definitely buy a weapon model for the assault rifle to make it look like the OG design. As amazing as the Infinite design is, it’s always good to have a little variety. Edit: Damn I really did predict CU29 like 3 months early. And yes, I did buy it an I still use it
I saw "Halo CE Mod Better with Friends, Assault on the Control Room" at War Heart. In this version, the accuracy of the Assault rifle was improved and I think it would be an experience to push through the game.

Removing the 60 round magazine and changing the sound to a toy gun was the worst decision they made. The halo 3 AR has one of the WORST sound effects of any weapon in any game.
I miss the mag size from CE, gotta show the covenant who's boss
Best way to deal with enemies (big like brutes or elites). Take out the shields with a AR, SMG, Shotgun, or Battle Rifle, then get a couple shots in with your secondary. I personally go with the AR and Battle Rifle. Take out the shields then aim for the head. Best way to get through those guys in my opinion, especially in Infinite when you have to try and salvage your ammo the best you can
Just stop
The Halo 4 AR is pretty underrated. Sounds beefy and strong and was pretty viable in multiplayer compared to other Halos.
Definitely agree that Halo 4’s AR is underrated, but from my experience Halo Infinite has the best feeling AR and it’s definitely the most viable. That’s just my opinion though
halo 4s gun sounds were excellent. The game itself was ehhhh but it might actually have the best sound design.
@@roelsalinas3536 for sure, you can actually use the AR in multiplayer. In the previous games you would lose to a BR/magnum every time.
The Halo Reach design was made in response to the rise of modern shooters including gun attachments, so Bungie mad the AR look like it’s silhouette was made with gun attachments I.e. the ammo counter looks like it’s mounted to the gun instead of being part of the gun
I love the OG CE look of the AR
There’s so much deeper lore to the different variants of each one that stacks up in the chronological place for the time line.
Example.
Reach Assault rifles are far out because it’s a weapons development planet.
The actual change from 60 to 30ish rounds is due to 7.62x51 being way to large to actually fit that many.
H1s Ar is my favorite the sound of it is beast and it had plenty of ammo and a big mag with 60 bullets
Bungie found out the pistol was the MVP and they nerfd the hing into oblivion.
I like how in CE the "Assault Rifle" is actually more of a Machine gun with 60 rounds and a "thick" sound.
It's almost an area of effect weapon with how much it sprays.
"Destroy that group of Grunts in a 10 foot area near you."
Look at the mag size. No war that has 60 bullets lol
Remember in halo 1 when the pistol was the best weapon for multiplayer? Was never the same after that.
the halo 2 magnum is good if you dual wield it with a plasma pistol which was probably intentional game design
Man i loved that AR on halo ce flood levels, that and the shotgun made me feel like doomguy. Yes even the library on heroic and legendary. Loved it!!
Infinite really made shooting the AR a joy
The Reach look is the best, I'm so happy they brought it back for Infinite. Classic is cool, but the other one just looks so raw and more like a lethal killing machine in my opinion. I even bought the Nerf gun of it lol
Literally the opposite for Many but what ever more power to stupid You I guess
"Reminiscent of Halo Reach"
Bro it is the one from reach
Halo 5 and Halo infinite had the best AR gameplay wise but my favorite design for the AR is definitely the AR in halo 3 I just wish it was better in gameplay though
EXACTLY the way i feel too. It just really bothers me that they tried to go back to a more classic art design with everything EXCEPT the AR
@@0JayDoubleU ikr they tried to make the AR in infinite look like the AR from halo reach but personally I agree they should’ve really made the AR have a similar design to the one from halo 3 tbh
@@ctnknight5624 yeah, to me that ar design is as iconic of an image for halo as the cheif's helmet or cortana.
The Halo 3 AR will always be my personal favorite, from look to functionality
Reach tried to advance CE
Infinite tried to advance Reach
reach is an older model infinite is the latest model
@@keanestewart4837 Infinite is farthest ahead in the timeline but the gun itself is still old. The AR in Infinite is the second oldest model after Reach, the order of oldest to newest being Reach, Infinite, CE, Three, and then both Four and Five which use the same base model.
@@skin_lizard yeah I don't understand 343s logic to make the MA40 the current issue rifle by the events of reach. It's like they ditched all the technological advancement of the MA5 models and went back to the pre-covenant war era AR design
@@Gameprojordanconsidering the UNSC was getting their butt kicked I would assume they fell back on old designs because they are easier, quicker, and cheaper to mass-produce
@@Gameprojordani think that the ones the spartains on the ground get are specialized for them while the ones for space security were diffrent and never really meant to be on... planet? On ring?
My problem with the AR was that you basically had to dump 1/3rd of your mag into a grunt to kill it. While with the Pistol or BR you just 1 tap things.
halo 1 ma5b sounded so great, and the armor piercing rounds were underrated. loved halo CE ma5b. no other halo assault rifles had that magical 60 round 7.62x51 mag and that beefy sound.
All of the Halo 1 guns had a unique feeling to them and all stood out in their own way. You can take literally any of them and it feels nice to use them.
halo ce has the best assault rifle
“Almost reminiscent” literally the same gun design with minor changes
Ikr
The original assault rifle is my favorite.
the Halo 5 AR is actually my favorite, classic looking, but redone in a modern, highly detailed way. and the subtle green really reminds me of the Canadian military's standard issue weapon lol. and it was a pretty good gun it just got outshined by the BR and the magnum the whole game.
Halo 5 gets way too much hate. Truly beautiful weapon designs.
Halo 4 was the only halo that made the assault rifle actually useful and did real damage. Really miss it
AR in halo 5 was pretty badass too!
Halo 5, infinite. Also halo 3’s isn’t as bad as people say you just gotta know how to use it
Didn't they just allow it to do headshots? That's the only reason it felt stronger.
Always nice to randomly see my old art
but that halo 4 AR sounds nasty as hell tho slaps hard
The reach one sounds better
It is the worst in gameplay though in my opinion
@@ctnknight5624 You're kidding, right? Halo 4's AR had one of the fastest TTKs of the ARs across all the games.
@@Drakrylos doesn’t matter other than halo CE’s AR its the most inaccurate only has 32 rounds is outperformed in multiplayer worse than it is in other halo games and has to fight Promethians in the campaign. For these reasons it’s my least favorite AR out of all of them in the entire series.
@@ctnknight5624 Inaccurate? Sorry, that's wrong. CE has the most inaccurate AR, and in multiplayer the Halo 4 AR shredded.
You're thinking about the Halo Reach AR, *that* one was dogshit.
I like to imagine at some point in-between the time of halo 2 they decided to keep the design but a higher calibre, meaning a smaller mag size but it definitely hit harder than CEs assault rifle. That thing tickled elite shields 😂
Halo 4's AR reverted to the classic look, but made it the most broken AR in the game.
That thing shredded
Needed the mag size and reserve of CE.
Wtf do you mean the most broken? LoL halo 4 AR is one of the best in all halos, it's actually usable instead of bungie halos. LoL
@@marcsalamoun1112 Broken, as in op.
I always wondered how the AR would have looked like if it existed in Halo 2
Both in Original graphics and the Anniversary one.
Out of all the guns, the DMR in reach still holds the most special place in my heart. Headshots felt so good with it, you know how some guns you can “feel” when you get that one shot kill or hitting good critical shots? Yea that’s it right there. So good in swat . Rip
"almost reminiscent of reach"
My guy its an exact copy.
Halo reach and infinites are literally the exact same design
Ill always remember when I first played Halo reach it made me miss the classical design that much more, so when we got it back in halo 4 it just gave me another reason to love that game.
I can't get enough of your content.
Imo H4 assault rifle was the best one since the original. It had more of a punch to it
agreed the 343 ARs are good
the infinite and reach ars are so good
absolutely love that reload
Lets be honest for a sec. Halo 4 and CE had the best sound for the Assault Rifle.
fun fact about halo 4's AR sound: its actually the sound of a scar firing
Assault rifle, pistol, and shotgun is all you need in CE. Really enjoying playing the remastered version.
Reach was my favourite halo. Something so raw about the story and the ending crushed my soul but it was brilliant
My gun OCD makes me never use the AR, only the magnum.
Always loved how the assault rifle looks a bit goofy with the triangular top
Remember folks, in the novels the MA-series rifles were incredibly accurate even up to ranges of 800 meters!
PFC Jenkins qualified as an Expert Marksman with an MA5B with only iron sights! Marines are extremely efficient with MA5 rifles!
The first on was the best. 60 rounds, most satisfying reload, best sound, it felt powerful, it was powerful and had zero recoil.
I love the infinite AR both in visual and sound design as well as multiplayer and campaign balance and feeling
Halo Reach and Infinie has the best AR.
I always fucked with sniper, shotgun, rocket launcher, and M7 SMGs. Would try to get rid of my AR, magnum, BR/DMR as quick as possible for one of those. I didnt really like covenant weapons except for the melee ones (grav hammer, energy sword).
And yes, I did buy it an I still use it
"The assault rifle came back in all its glory but with less bullets" is wild to me
I love the assault rifle in Halo Infinite!
Halo CE had the best Assault Rifle no contest
I love this little puppy since Halo 3 and CE, it's very reminicent to the Pulse Rifle from Aliens.
Assault Rifle hands down my favorite gun in Halo. Oopsies.
They’re all very similar when you consider that part being an attachment with Hallo 1 & 3s attachment being a different one from Reachs and Infinites
Halo CE had the best one. No better feeling than filling grunts full of lead from that 60 round magazine. Best sound design too
This gun deserves more competitive love. It's iconic.
The halo 4 assault riffle is a beast. It's my main gun for close combat and it's the best in the entire franchise arguably
I saw "Halo CE Mod Better with Friends, Assault on the Control Room" at War Heart. In this version, the accuracy of the Assault rifle was improved and I think it would be an experience to push through the game.
Nostalgia kicking my ass rn seeing these games again
Halo reach assault rifle happens to be my favorite, I played that Halo game at friends house with 2-4 friends often or usually us 3
Gosh I love the 60 Round MA5, Second places goes to the Halo 3 model followed by Reach. Love em all!
but nothing just sounds as good satisfying crunchy and intimidating as that combat evolved assault rifle
The AR ammo counter and overall design has got to be one of the most distinctive and easily recognizable features of the franchise after Chief’s helmet and the warthog.
Halo 1 AR was a beast of a gun, it just sounded so powerful and that muzzle flare was sexy as fuck
I’ll NEVER forget playing the original Halo for the first time on Xbox. With the ‘duke’ controller no less. I remember not being able to shut up to my then GF about how ‘right’ it felt to throw a grenade in that game. Makes me nostalgic every time.
Halo 4 ar looks pretty good to be honest
