I mean that would definitely give them a reason to incorporate Pansage, Pansear & Panpour. Seeing as how apart from Patrat those three are the only Pokemon lines that haven't been in a single game on the switch yet.

Right now It's Flutter Mane, Incineroar, Ogerpon, Rillaboom, Tornadus, Urshifu, Landorus, Raging Bolt, Amoongus, and Chien-Pao. Something like 75% of teams are just six of those pokemon. The other 25% are either Dondozo teams or Indeedee/iron Crown Psyspam. I'm just worried about megas returning to SV since the paradoxes are broken enough without something like Drought Zard setting sun for them.
Im just glad Mega Evolution is back. Despite its flaws such as only accessible to a few pokemon and the centralization where o ly a select few megas are viable in competitive. I still prefer it to the broken dynamax and Terrastelize and at least its not just a one move thing like Z-moves. Still my favorite battle gimmick.
I know its unlikely but I don't see ANYONE talking about how we might finally get a Dragon-Type eeveelution. Sylveon was introduced in gen 6 and was the last time we got any new eevee. What if the dragon eeveelution got wiped out in the great war? I don't think it's too far-fetched at all.

I feel like regardless of whether we get new Megas, Legends Z-A will follow the new battle system from Legends Arceus, meaning there are no abilities. So that'll nerf most Megas

Megas might be introduced through the Legends Arceus gimmick of having a regional variant be an alpha Pokémon you have to battle. If the objective of the game is to bring Pokémon and adapt them into Lumiose City, maybe we have to battle Mega Pokémon in order to bring a certain group of Pokémon. Battling a mega could be considered battling the “leader” of a clan or group of different Pokémon?
megas are the least problematic gimick half of the megas mentioned like lucario blaziken and kangaskan were all banned no where near as hated as z moves or dynamax and tera is in some peoples opinion just a little stronger than megas because of the set up sweepers that can abuse it.
Legends Arceus had a small dex mostly because it was based entirely off the original D/P dex. Would expect all the X/Y megas to return at minimum for Legends Z-A, although maybe not the OR/AS megas unless the game gets DLC.
Kind of sounds like its own podcast episode Maybe Z forms from Zygarde are like Primal Reversion Zygarde protects ecosystems so Z forms let the mon access the energy from them like Primal Reversion takes in nature energy So basically Sage Mode from Naruto...
