    Breathe! It's going to be ok! Combine, reduce the quantity to 300, re-establish a larger grid (perhaps it doesn't have to be “perfect” lines. Ultimately, make it more manageable so that you can eventually self maintain. ❤️

      *What is the Gospel?*
      The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
      For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
      Romans 10:9
      9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!

    It’s not “just hair” though. We, especially as black women” express ourselves through our hair. Its an extension of us…whether it’s our natural hair, locs, wigs, whatever..It’s okay for you to be torn and want to keep what you’ve worked hard so for. You’ll just need a different method of maintenance, that’s all! 😊You’re hair is beautiful and if it can be salvaged I think you should try that option first like you said and see how it works out. If you’re locked enough, getting a haircut may be an option. A stacked bob would let you keep most of your length in the middle and front and start fresh with your locs in the back. You’d have some natural layers and it would grow in even.

  • @mishaytv
    @mishaytv 2 года назад +34

    I say hang in there. You already wanted to lower your loc count. This will help you do that. Don't be worried. You and your locs are resilient and beautiful. They will be fine and having some varying lengths is not really a "thing" with locs like it is with straight hair. It's not noticeable. Also, don't beat up on yourself. You're in college, a vlogger, working a job, etc. Trying to self maintain your locs was an aggressive goal and now you have help. You can do this. ❤️

  • @vjack2392
    @vjack2392 2 года назад +11

    I am a trainee loctician as well. Your hair is in pretty rough shape, but the cut locs can be reattached to the new growth. You can go to a loctician that specializes in repair. It will be super expensive, but if you want to save them.... The loctician probably sees that you are struggling with the upkeep and made recommendations based on how you have been caring for your hair. Sisterlocks require 4-6 week maintenance faithfully. Yours are much smaller than Sisterlocks so you would need to be at that 4 week mark. If you can't maintain that schedule, you probably should combine them. I love your hair, but I would never install this many locks because of all of the things mentioned.

  • @KinkyKurlyKham
    @KinkyKurlyKham 2 года назад +47

    As tempting as it is to reattach the locs that were cut, I think you’ll be better in the long run leaving them shorter and letting them grow. You have so many locs and they’re so dense that the short ones won’t be noticeable at all. Can’t wait to see your hair once your retie is finished!

    TyKara Ann, don’t cut your locs. You may have to cut some of the matted ones or just have some larger locs. I think you need to go to a different Loctician, maybe even in Houston. I have 23 inches & it only took 5 hours to do my entire head after 90 days of no reti’s. She may not be the one for the job. Don’t go back. Find a real pro and you & your mom can tighten your hair til you research a good Loctician. May cost but it will be just to correct your hair for now. Praying for you lil sis. Much love.

    This is what gets me when so many influencers try to push this idea of “stretching your retwist” and doing semi-freeform journeys. Not everyone can do it, its a dangerous game. You risk thinning since the loc is putting stress on loose roots(that may not all be uniformly supporting the weight of the loc due to stray hairs growing away from it). Your locs are beautiful, I would just take this as a lesson learned from here, especially with microlocs that need all the support they can get. If you do decide to cut it to even out the length, go for it, but know you’re not the only one with some uneven locs. The baby locs may even be cute in certain styles ♥️

    So sorry this happened to your hair. It’s super necessary to separate your locs every time you wash them or if your scalp sweats, and if you go a while between re-ties, a good way to keep them from joining at the roots is re-twisting them. You don’t have to use a gel. You can just spray water or rose water on the roots, twist, pin with hair clips, and blowdry on cool.

    Hey beauty! I would honestly say either trim/cut down a bit or cut out the weaker locs and reattach maybe? I could even see you cutting maybe 3-4in and attaching that to the shorter ones if possible. But as someone else suggested, a stacked Bob or Lob would suit you as well to keep the volume and it’ll only really cut the back.
    I know it seems like a drastic change going from 16 to 8in but as you said, where the issue sections are will be covered AND your hair grows quickly especially when you are able to moisturize and such on a routine.
    I’m unsure of the potential severity but I know almost anything can be salvaged when it comes to our hair. You got this! Take your time to decide and weigh all your options. Either way, it’ll be ok! 💛💛

    First, allow me to just say how inspired I am by your journey and your willingness to be vulnerable for us! The loc journey will have many ups and downs but we don’t see the “downs” much on YT. So I appreciate your honestly and vulnerability. Secondly, either solution that you decide to do, will work out fine. I personally would just cut them all to the 4 inches and let go of the 15 inches of locs. That way you can start fresh with new energy and healthy hair all at the same time. Just know that whatever you decide to do, you will be ok. There is no right or wrong answer in doing what is best for you! I hope this helps a little. Sending you loving and peaceful energy✨

    Hello Sunshine! Keep your head up and continue to be encouraged. IMHO...don't cut your beautiful locs. Starting over isn't the 'end of the world' but as you learn from this in your loc journey, "take the lemons and make lemonade" (one of my mottos). I actually thought about interlocking but chose to start my DIY microlocs with a few methods of palm rolling, locksmithing and wrapping the new growth and overall locs. I've always had strong roots/hair and my method works best for me...6 months strong and my microlocs are down my back! #HappiHealthyHair #LocLove #BeWell

    It is disheartening when you have to lose even one loc but it does grow back. I wouldn't cut it if I were you. They may be a little uneven but that won't take away from the beauty of your locs. I get super overwhelmed with my locs too because I'm a full-time student, I work 3 jobs, and I'm in Oregon with no locticians who are near me nor affordable. One thing I started to do was, instead of retightening every 4-6 weeks, I section my hair off and just check each loc. If it's damaged, I fix it. If there's a ton of new growth, I reduce it. If it looks fine, I leave it. So, it's like a partial retighten. I do a full retighten when I have the mental capacity and the time. Hope this helps!

  • @Auggie025
    @Auggie025 2 года назад +1

    I wouldn't feel bad at all. Loc maintenance is expensive if someone else reties them for you and time-consuming if you're doing them yourself. It's easy to procrastinate and have an overwhelming amount of work that you never seem to be ahead of until it's all out of hand. If I had the same amount of locs as you, I'd be struggling just as much. I specifically asked for/and got about 250 locs for this reason alone. I knew I'd be doing my reties myself and I'm lazy at times! About 200-250 is a good number for those who like the small microloc look yet want to be able to maintain it easily. Interlocking has been key for me as well since there's no unraveling. I wouldn't recommending palm rolling/retwisting for microlocs at all. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and thank you for having the courage to document your experiences with us!

    I’ve been watching you from the beginning and I have microlocs just like you just not as many but still a lot to manage. I went to a loctican and I had the same experience. Overgrown locs and it took 5 hours to interlock HALF my head. I was dissatisfied because many of my locs had holes because she was rushing. I am now trying to palm retwist with aloe and oil and I’m hopeful it will work because interlocking has been thinning my locs. It takes less time and I feel better about doing my hair. Just thought I’d share 😊

    Don’t be sad hun. Mine are worse and I’m currently repairing them. I have 3 years worth of new growth in the back that I’m gradually working through but I’m not cutting any of them out, I’m just combining a few really weak ones together lol. I really don’t think it’s necessary to cut them out especially if most of the locs that were the most damaged are in the back which you’ll never really see unless you look for them. Just get them back on track and maybe combine a few really thin ones so you won’t have as many to retighten if that’s a concern for you. I’m not sure if maintaining your grid is important to you, if not then just get them together and maintain them from here. Your locs will be just fine ☺️

    I’m not loc’d but I’ve watched a ton of videos of problematic loc journeys. I’m still researching after 5 years. Lol.
    I would say let your mom look at the grid in the back to see how the locition did. Also get a second opinion from a certified locition. I know you said you were seeing a trainee which is totally fine. But the thing is your hair is very complicated, and the last thing you want to do is get your locs redone and the approach of it could have been different. Your locition should have someone thats training her (overlooking her work) if that person can chime in if they haven’t already to make sure you guys covered all grounds and set the best path moving forward with your hair. It probably will require some combining so I hope you’re okay with having less locks (though you do have so many to begin with, so I wouldn’t worry about that too much). If not I think you should just see how repairing goes and decide from there if you want to cut it. Your locs could def be saved though, Ive seen some people shave their head then reattach their locs to the new growth (ive reattached some of my diy locs as well at the root). if you could find someone who does reattachments that could help as well.
