love your comments, sandra. i'm 92, widowed, and live alone. my oldest daughter keeps telling me that she thinks i should be in a senior residence. i'm resisting, since i'm still able to keep my home reasonably clean, do my laundry, etc. i like my privacy, my three bedroom house, my bible study group. i love that i can drive to the grocery store, and to church. i love to read, paint, work the hardest crosswords. i want to continue living this way, as long as i'm able. you inspire me, lovely lady !

Thank you so much. I like this approach to meal planning. I have never done it and have resisted it. But as i get older, it is the perfect way to save money also. I tend to cook when i feel like it and then freeze food. At a minimum I can combine an inventory of the freezer with meal planning.

Hi Sandra … Thank u for your posted videos and thoughts. This one struck a chord with me. I just had my 73rd birthday. I was my husband’s caregiver for almost 8 years. He died with dementia two years ago. In an instant(2012), I became not only his caregiver but the sole financial provider for our family. What a shock! During the last couple of years of his life, caregiving became a full time job, so, like u, I began to brainstorm as to how I could simplify my life, save time and conserve energy and do the most important things begging for my attention. The first thing I did was to get off social media (Facebook); it was difficult at first but became one of the best decisions I ever made. I still have not and will not resume posting on FB. I do “troll” sometimes secretly but never ‘like’ or comment when I do. The next thing I did was cut my hair. It was below-waist length, and I loved doing fun things with it such as Pom-Pom pigtails and Indian braids, occasionally wearing it down and curled. And the third thing I did was buying a rebounding trampoline and putting it in my art studio and ending my Y membership and stopped attending exercise classes - which were great fun, but there was no longer time in my schedule for that. I have kept my hair short since, continue to rebound for exercise and just had 5 tons of riverbed rocks delivered to my home that I am arranging in my ever expanding fantasy gardens - that’s great daily exercise and gets me outside in the fresh air and sunlight. Again, thank u for your inspiring posts!! Just had to share today. I’ve never commented before. ♥️

GingerLou, Thank you so much for sharing your story with us today. We do have to make adjustments when we are the sole caregivers, don’t we? Thank you for letting me know what you’re doing now that your time is more for yourself. Good luck with your beautiful gardens. It sounds wonderful

    Dearest Sandra,
Thank you for sharing such confidence in ways to move forward especially when life throws some curve balls our way! We all have those times and it is so important not to get so overwhelmed that we lose ourselves in the process.
You really do seem to know how to do that so very well. I am so inspired by you and how you manage to remind all of us to bring our focus in on the incremental ways to handle what can sometimes be disorienting and/or frustrating.
I am so happy that you have found ways to enjoy your precious time with Arthur and I am sure that your daughter also is a great comfort.
Thank you as always, with great respect and love, Dee.♥️
PS Your hair looks beautiful! Have a blessed week!

I’ve always considered you amazing, but that doesn’t describe the half of it. This video has convinced me to spend less time sitting around on my tush and accomplish more while I still have time. This is one of the best videos on being a minimalist for someone over 60. I will turn 69 this fall, I have been widowed for almost 7 years, I'm retired, and my almost 90 year old mom died at the beginning of this year. This is the first time in my adult life that I have lived alone, am not the caretaker for someone, am not working, and can pretty much plan my days for myself. There are so many books I want to read or listen to, wonderful You Tubers to follow, and my small home to take care of that I am never bored or lonely. I am so glad that I have found your channel because, although I love watching the younger You Tubers, I can't quite relate to their stage of life anymore 😃 I think I'll go binge-watch a few of your earlier videos !! Thanks so much.

"Human feelings and comfort are more than material things.... and Grateful of all I have.", totally agree. Thank you for all the information you are sharing like the 'multitasking' - which I believe is a spice of life, 'organizing' which makes life easy, 'blocking' and 'breaking'. 'Meal plan and spacing' very essential. Have nothing to say may you and yours be blessed.

Thank you, Sandra, for this so very gracious teaching on accepting and loving "what is". My life does not hold the same challenges, but I am learning also to "grow with the flow" instead of heaving my joy against the wall of changes that I am experiencing. A few years ago I had a coworker who was toxic, entitled, critical and judgmental. One day another coworker whispered to me, "I don't think she's been reading her 'Gracious Living' magazine! We howled with silent laughter and the saying has stuck with us ever since, in many situations. Gracious living is a choice and you, Dear Sandra, offer us regular lessons in graciousness that I deem invaluable. Thank you. xo karen

My mornings are busy and I find that when I’m in nature it’s relaxing and it’s a form of meditation. When I walk my almost 14-year-old poodle Dasher, he likes to prance and he still likes to run, so he’s all over the place. I will keep you and Arthur in my prayers. ❤️❤️ Blessings. 🦋

Sandra, thank you for the inspiration. My husband will be 92 in Oct. and I’ll be 78 in Dec. I worked as a nursing assistant and in the activities dept. in a nursing home until I had to retire back in 2009. I had to have the Whipple procedure surgery done at the Mayo Clinic because I had pancreatic cancer. In the past year my husband has lost some abilities and it’s an adjustment for both of us. I too am now a carer for my husband, who has health issues, and I can often feel overwhelmed and that my carefree life is now behind me. Your common sense and practical tips, plus your buoyant and positive approach to your situation has given me the inspiration and gumption I sorely needed.

Your haircut is beautiful. Tell your daughter she did a great job. I have come into a strange time of my life. My son has really bad anxiety so doesn't work or drive. My husband has chronic fatigue so just went on short term disability. My parents are divorced and my dad who lives close by has medical problems and can't drive now. I am taking him to the doctor several times a week. My husband's mom has no one to visit her close by except us so we go take her shopping every week. And my daughter is a nurse and needs me to take care of her dog every weekend because of her long hours. I feel like I am caring for everyone! I just found your videos and wanted to say thanks. I can relate. Diet, money, minimalism... all these things are really hitting me now and your videos are very helpful!

Jodi, Who is taking care of you? When we find ourselves in a situation like you are in it really is important that you try to find time for yourself during the day. I know it is hard because I am struggling with many of the same things you are. If we burn out how can we help others in our lives. Would it be possible that your daughter help you a bit during the week with your care of others? I know nurses have a busy schedule, but they do have days off and I’m sure she would love to help you bear some of the burden of your care responsibilities once in awhile. Even several hours one day a week will help you. Thank you so much for being here and I really appreciate your sharing your thoughts with me today.

I wish my mother had been a close friend and confidante. Growing up was trial and error. Nothing was explained about childbirth, menopause etc. just snide comments. So I learned the hard way. Your children and grandchildren must cherish you. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for you. I hate grocery shopping too. Thank you Sandra, enjoyed the video, as always.

Dear Madam, I stumbled upon your channel and, after watching two of your videos, I really fell in love with the content, your advices, your lifestyle and everything. What a graceful and charming human being you are!!! I'm 35 years old, and up to my early 20s, I lived with my grandmothers (4 of them from both sides of my parents) who sadly passed away and those were the most beautiful and formative years of my life. I always feel so grateful for the blessings of having had my beloved grandmothers when I was a little kid and I truly truly miss them every day of my life. Hearing you and listening to you reminded me of them and I can't tell you how happy I am that I found your channel. I pray God that you continue living a long, healthy and blissful life for many many more years to come. And I for sure will keep listening to you. God bless you always, Madam (I almost called you Mom as that is how I used to call my beloved Mummies). Sending you all my affection and kind regards (from my sweet Djibouti).

I'm going to start doing that. I bet I'll save money. I know what you mean about making 'me time'...it's very easy to neglect that important time for ourselves but so important! Thanks for the reminders and tips! You really inspire me. BTW...Love the haircut!

Yes you need that "me" time when you are a care giver It is exhausting and you do have to be organized Its not easy and even then there will be days when you feel overwhelmed and so very tired Walking the dogs is a wonderful time for walking meditation and to breath even cleaning can be a wonderful time to meditate We need our down time (bubble bath)? or just to sit quietly and have a cup of tea I I took care of my husband for many years and I took care of everything (including my business ) and since he passed in October it has been another kind of life change Life is always changing Spend as much time a you can with you loved ones Time is the one thing we never have *we only think we do* Enjoy your videos as always

I'm disabled, able to walk around the house & that's it. I really do appreciate all that my partner does for me, I know it's a nuisance now & then, I feel sad that unable to do much & I try my best to give him a good life so on a 'good day' we will go out for a drive in the countryside & take our 2 adorable toy poodles out to run around in the grass & my partner playing with them. Those days are so special to me, especially when my Mum joins us. She's been thru such a lot, she's getting frailer & needs more attention than ever before. I have dinner with her everyday now & I feel like I'm the mother now. It feels so strange. I Thank God that my partner helps me to be with her everyday. Care givers deserve a medal 🏅💞 for their hard work they do, being with their loved ones is all you need. Love is so precious, treat it with respect & you will receive more & more respect & love. 💗

I'm not a caregiver, per se, but right now, I feel like taking care of myself is a full-time job as I navigate new health issues. (Taking care of myself has always felt "illegal" so I also have to come to terms with that, not to mention that it's a big part of what got me into this condition.) The specific things you shared here were very helpful; the principles behind them, even more so. Thank you so much for your gentle transparency and your kind & encouraging way of sharing your wisdom with us. Love you, Sandra.

I could really relate to this week’s vlog. My husband will 90 this year and is in cognitive decline so paying the bills, taxes etc is now my responsibility too. I’ve simplified our monthly bills but haven’t gone to auto pay on all (yet) and I agree about receiving our credit card bill in the mail so I can scrutinize it myself each month ( I could do it online but choose not to). We’ve scaled way back on clutter and possessions in 2020. I like the house to be on the minimal side (easier to keep clean) and don’t feel overwhelmed- you and I think a lot alike and we are doing a good job taking care of our husband and ourselves ❣️
