He did not like the latter's method and completed his education alone. He made his first appearance in Leipzig at the age of fifteen. The following year he played in London and in 1905, having won the Rubinstein Prize for piano, he was appointed professor of piano at the Royal Manchester College of Music. In 1912, Backhaus gave up teaching to devote himself exclusively to concerts. From then on, his reputation grew worldwide. He specialized in the interpretation of works by Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin. He often tells the story of how, in Perth, Western Australia, "a little boarder of about sixteen came to the stage and played very loudly. I told her she was playing too loudly, but I realized she had talent and directed her to Leipzig. The little girl was Eileen Joyce. Backhaus accepted a position offered by the Nazis in 1933, but was later sent to a concentration camp. After the Second World War, he retired to the solitude of a villa in Lugano. Haydn's many sonatas are subtle and original. Their composition occupied Haydn for much of his career, from the early 1760s to 1794. Haydn's sonatas are multifaceted in their turnings and formats, from early works that almost entirely avoid chords-essentially two-part inventions-to the famous last sonatas, which are robust, virtuosic, and beautiful in every way ( ruclips.net/video/zC9fBY8xcLo/видео.html ).
Haydn's unjustifiably neglected, magical keyboard pieces and sonatas. Backhaus, one of the half dozen or so elite pianists of the 20th century (in my opinion), tainted by the National Socialist association.

No tainted at all.
