  • Artificial Intelligence (Midjourney, DALL·E 3, ChatGPT, and Sora) has advanced astronomically within a short time frame. The question begs to be asked: Will AI take our jobs?
In this video, we’ll chat about:
    The rapid development of AI
Which jobs are on the chopping block? Which jobs are “safe”?
Why are creative jobs the first to go?
Robot servers and self-driving cars (Waymo)
Figure Robotics & Boston Dynamic robot dog
Does ChatGPT have what it takes to write a Stephen King novel?
Does ChatGPT have what it takes to write a Fifty Shades of Grey x Star Wars crossover?
Can AI imitate the human imagination?
How will corporations use AI in the future and how it will impact you?

I'm working on becoming an elementary school teacher and I think AI makes our jobs easier. AI for lesson planning seems like a great time saver. AI for classroom activities is good too. Teachers can mix AI elements of teaching with more hands-on, paper and pencil, & creative and playful learning. I don't think kids will stare at their computers and listen to robots instead of being taught by a human teacher anytime soon.

I like to think that the human experience that connects us to the art we consume in a meaningful way, like novels, films, and works of art, can ever be replaced by ai generated content. Because it fundamentally lacks that human quality that connects us. I hope that people will instinctively feel the same way about ai generated "storytelling" that you did about the Steven King "story." That it's bland and sparks nothing in you because of its lack of humanity. But maybe my faith in humanity is optimistic. Who can say.
I do however think that corporate media is absolutely on the chopping block. Because we don't connect to it deeply in the first place. Corporate art for branding, merchandising, commercials, and all the other ways art is used in our daily lives when we don't notice it, can easily be replaced because most of it is bland in the first place. And that's a lot of jobs that will be thrown down the distopic drain.

Oh yeah, corporate art is the first to go if it hasn't been overthrown already. Content writing, SEO, voice overs, etc...

If I can delegate my creativity to an AI I'll have so much more time for mercenary self-branding, relentless self-promotion and masturbatory self-congratulation! It'll be the future Timbuk 3 promised me!

I don't think it will replace art but it is replacing content and content jobs are what a lot of creative folks use to pay the bills so...that could have some unpleasant ramifications. AI will probably never think to put a random Darth Maul montage in the middle of discussing itself, though. Hahaha! I have a random crush on Cad Bane that makes me wonder if I'm okay

Ha! I'm not 100% well versed in the Star Wars universe (my husband's the fan and I sit through all the Star Wars shows, but he pays his dues by watching Outlander and various BBC costume dramas lol) so I had to look up Cad Bane. He's also... appealing! Nothing beats Darth Maul on the throne though.

Teresa, I don't believe AI will ever duplicate your "chaotic mind." Your quirky uniqueness will befuddle all attempts to copy it. However, AI may very well be able to duplicate many of the big-budget superhero and other big-budget movies, specifically because many are created by committee and have to check boxes. Will the public accept an AI generated script? Will it know the difference? And, did I actually write this? Or is it AI?????

Several pro screenwriters use AI as a first draft. Then they rework it. Enjoy your video

In theory, AI should be able to replace writing jobs, right? Writing is pretty straightforward and follows concrete (enough) rules. However, even the best AI writes like an unimaginative grammarian with no sense of characterization, narrative, or pace. It's awful.

If we reach a tipping point where people are trained to like bland writing & can no longer sense nuances in characters... 🤦🏻‍♀️

I mean, there’s a reason Sam Altman just visited Hollywood + in just the last week with Suno for music… the other month with Sora for video… I think it will come down to “can we tell it when we see it?” If we can “feel” the AI, then you will have a gap. But if it is consistently “I can’t tell this is AI” and can keep passing that test, if there aren’t “signatures” that it is AI then yes, I think creatives are in the long term in trouble. However, there could enter a new class of people who are good at getting good output, “prompt engineer” is a cheesy term but it really does take a lot of working with the models to get highly specific results. But you need one person to do that where before you might need 100’s for a movie. A dozen for an album. Etc.

Prompt engineers will be the hot new job. Sadly, in Hollywood, I fear this has 'nepo' gig written all over it 🤦🏻‍♀️

It will reduce creative jobs. It doesn't need to replace the awesome to cause an existential crisis. Just needs to replace the mediocre.

But every creative starts mediocre before becoming amazing. So it will eliminate entry level creative jobs, eventually eliminating the "amazing"

    • @teresachaotic.corner

or deter people from even trying to do anything creative as most of creative success involves failures, fumbles, and mediocre creations, etc... blood, sweat, tears produces 'amazing.' The road to great art is littered with bad art. Think of creating something as digging yourself out of a hole because you have your eyes on the stars and the wild hope that one day you can stand on the mountaintop. But if you eliminate hope from human beings, they wallow in the hole.
