Congratulations on your success. I know you’ve earned all you have and worked very hard to get to where you are. I don’t mean this as disrespectful, but I really enjoyed the channel better back when it was a fella finding an old rust bucket in the sticks, getting it running with a couple harbor freight tools, and driving it home.
I remember. It had that 'Quiet Man Alone in the Garage' theme to it. I remember watching him explain the score, wear, presence, and absence of particulates on the spark plug. He did this the whole episode, an hour. It was nuclear, man. Like splitting the atom. This guy just spent an hour explaining one spark plug to me. What depth. I thought to myself, "I know nothing. It's all just surface. Superficial"... And then I watched him fix a dangerously low gauge reading on the ride home by covering the gauge with duct tape. I don't even know which gauge it was.
Wow. That was flippin amazing! Loved that Kevin and his friends stopped by to lend a hand and show us how it done! Such a beautiful survivor car and can’t wait to see the reveal when she’s all finished and goes back home. Great job bud! Thank you!

My buddy had the same exact car. One day we were driving along in traffic at about 35mph and the hood latch decided to fail. The hood flings up and he slams on the brakes and veers to the median. We got lucky the window did not break and we weren't hit. LOVED that car !!!

on all of the GTOs that ive had, i always had things in the trunk slide into the rear quarter panels and dent them, but i didnt see any of that on this one. I found that the steering wheel covers actually help keep it from cracking.

I heard a person say that the best way to sell a product is via social media....This is what these guy do day in day out, sell their product......Luckily for Derek they were selling their product by using it on a car he was working on.....Yes they worked hard, the car looks GREAT...There will be more eye's on their product in this one video than there will be in a lot of their shows......It works for everyone.....This video was very much QVC'ish at times, but it is what it is.....Derek gets the finish on the car at no extra cost and these guys get hundreds pf thousands of eyes on the product....It's a win win......I normally flip past QVC as I have no interest, but I can't flip past Vice Grip.
Very cool Derek! Watching this has made me plan to look into Griots items. It was nice of all those guys to volunteer their time. Thanks for producing this episode!
My grandfather has a identical car to a T, only difference was it was a convertible and it was quiet on the rusty side. We tried to replace floor pans but it ended up being just to far gone. Really cool seeing another just like it being fixed up.

Tip of the hat Derek. This is why I believe you are one of the best things to happen to old rides. Doesn't have to be fancy, just something you love to do and you do it well. Thank you all for what you are doing.
Thanks a million to the guys at Griots who came out and worked their butts off on this beauty!!! Its amazing what a LOT, of elbow grease can do! Now the owners have a very presentable car to drive around and play with. So, I think the main take-aways are: 1) start conservative and be satisfied with what the car can give you unless you want to spend a lot of money, and 2) sweating the details, like cleaning up the chrome, trim and top, adds a lot to the overall job. I think most people who spent a week working hard on their car (like here, five guys most of a day) could achieve something similar. The real trick, as always, is start and do it!
What everyone is doing for this feller fixing up his GTO is just amazing! Giving back at its best! I salute all the fellers and fellettes that are helping in this project!

This is a great project for a good cause, but I also prefer the rival videos when Derek can really let his sense of humor fly.
Can't bring em all home tho....gotta fix em
@@TwoAcresandaMule but…. He is bringing them home still.
Nice job. Those dang vinyl tops. That rusting issue under the vinyl is the state of Florida number one friend humidity. That stuff soaks in everywhere
I had a job at Texas Instruments, Metals and Controls division, running a buffing machine line buffing that stainless trim on the bottom of GM cars.
Absolute magic! The owner is going to think it's a different car when they get it back. Nice work there to you and the team that worked on it Derek.
Wow. That was flippin amazing! Loved that Kevin and his friends stopped by to lend a hand and show us how it done! Such a beautiful survivor car and can’t wait to see the reveal when she’s all finished and goes back home. Great job bud! Thank you!
Awesome and amazing video and transformation! This was so great for the Griots Team to come to your shop with Kevin Tetz and help out with this great project. It was so much better than I ever thought possible too. Their products are so amazing and work so well! And collaborating with them to do this like it turned out was so cool for the family. Keep it up and thanks for providing us the best channel and content on the RUclips Derek! God bless you and your family. Have a blessed weekend.
So bout 7 years ago I found Griot's products. I am truly a shade tree detailer. Only do my stuff or friends. Two years ago I did a friends neglected Boxster. He sold it last year. Everyone looking at it thought it had a fresh repaint. I'll never not buy Griot's. Thanks Derek!
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS YOU GUYS ARE MY HEROS I AM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY
Amazing transformation! The imperfections totally give the car the character it deserves.
Absolutely amazing transformation, especially on the stainless and bumpers! That car is friggin' gorgeous!!!
That turned out great! The best part of this project is the reason for the project in the first place. Well done VG and friends, Well done. That car sure does bring back some wonderful memories for this ole' wrencher. Thank you.
My buddy had the same exact car. One day we were driving along in traffic at about 35mph and the hood latch decided to fail. The hood flings up and he slams on the brakes and veers to the median. We got lucky the window did not break and we weren't hit. LOVED that car !!!
The was a hole in the floor board and you will be proud to know it was repaired, back then, with an old license plate
Great episode. Love the collaboration of people donating their time and skills to not only help the family that owns the car but to educate others. Body and paint is always such an important step in the process, it’s nice to get some tips and tricks from the pros. Thanks fellas!
Yes! Bring the thunder. It's a really good thing you're doing for that dude. Keep being you Derek.
Derrick is a great personality for this type of content. There's humor, knowledge, and a great example of what family dynamics can be! I love this guy and this is awesome seeing him getting people that have been in the game for a long time... that is showing that he is producing the best content! I love this channel so much! Derrick is such a great guy! I can't wait to eventually meet him.
Great team - great project - great service to others. That was incredible how you brought the paint, Crome and vinyl top back.
I use some Griots products and now will use more. It's great they stepped up and helped on this project for a veteran. That's a company I want to support. Thanks for what you do Derek.
I love that that it isn't super siny. That dark cherry looks beautiful in the sun
As always Derek you are truly amazing
What a beautiful car and what you do bringing the automotive community together and helping each other is beyond words, the blood sweat and tears that you and Jessica put in to what you do is just incredible and the
Fact you remain humble is truly what this world needs right now
it’s really cool how a fella can be doing something for so many years and yet still learn stuff. i love how humble you are. keep up the content D
Motorcycle community is just the same. Always count on a fellow rider to help out. That surprise they didn't do any kind of decontamination wash or use a clay bar before polishing. Looks mint 👌
She turned out BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
on all of the GTOs that ive had, i always had things in the trunk slide into the rear quarter panels and dent them, but i didnt see any of that on this one. I found that the steering wheel covers actually help keep it from cracking.
You, Kevin and the guys from Griots are absolute legends. Car looks amazing guys. Nice Job!
Woah now, Derek. you're starting to scare me with how professional this is lookin'. . .keep it up
Kevin Tetz is one of those guys I wish I could copy and paste every car guy knowledge he knows into my brain. The chrome on that car is nutz!
Most wholesome automotive RUclips channel ever ❤️🤟🏼🙏🏼
This is going to be a sweet sweet driver when it's done. I love how everything's turned out great but not perfect that's what makes it special. I appreciate Kevin and the guys from grios coming down to help out.
Love the content and love the old garage guy vibes yes sir this channel is headed in the right direction let's keep it that way great job sir.
Awesome video. I learnt so much. The amount of automotive experts Derrick can just call is amazing and a testament to how cool the community is.
Not only a beautiful example of an american muscle car, b,it also an inspirational american revival. Deepest thanks, hats off to all you fellers!!
That car looks bloody great, the chrome is amazing after all this time, what a great bunch of blokes giving their time and all that work for free, well done everyone.
@@MyCracker1234 QVC all the way through. Bigly Sadly.
Just having the chrome polished makes a huge difference! Good job to the whole crew!
I agree, I love the shine on the stainless and the chrome, should have left the paint as is.
it's amazing how much detailing can bring a car back. Great vid. Looking forward to more on the Goat!
First tip I ever learned from Kevin was the curled single edge razor blade for shaving blemishes. Been a fan since
The GTO looks amazing! The owners are going to be wowed.cant wait to see more videos of it great job to the whole team
I can’t believe it, but I got to, I’m looking right at it! Thanks Derek for the amazing content 💪🏻😎
Wow that turned into a infomercial fast, Hope that does not become a thing?
You could also use a Porcelain treatment on that paint. It would put all the shine back in that paint, and never have to be touched again!
I forgot about the TNN/SPEED/SPIKE/PowerNation connection in Tennessee. I hope you get to meet Stacy David, too.
I’m gonna go buy a dual action machine never knew learn something new everyday! Wow so amazed how awesome it looks! So nice you had all those guys help you!
Knocked it out of the park man! Can’t wait to see the interior come back around
Great job, great team. Can't believe how good the trim work and bumpers came back. GM made some good chrome back then. The family will be very happy with all your hard work.
I can't get over how good that front bumper is looking! Looks brand new, amazing condition.
Most impressive. Teamwork, especially for such a good cause is quite touching. Thanks from me to you all.
What everyone is doing for this feller fixing up his GTO is just amazing! Giving back at its best! I salute all the fellers and fellettes that are helping in this project!
That's a nice color it's going to be sharp when it's done the veteran it will make his day when he sees it and drives it wow.
I like how he is always trying to learn and gives you different content. I mean nothing better than finding an old rig and driving it a zillion miles home but never fails to deliver thank you sir for all your hard work, creativity, and saving those old rigs
I love this! Brings a tear to a guy's eye watching Derek give back to the vets. They deserve this and so much more. I hope there is a reaction video at the end!
Absolutely awesome what you are doing with the GTO! We will never be able to repay our veterans for their sacrifice but something like this is a damn good start!
Derek the look of the car has dramatically improved, how are you going to be able to work on the mechanical things with so much shine in your face, good team work, good video.
Derek's gunna need to invest in a lot of blankets to cover the areas that have been restored!!
Loved the Community of car guys coming together for a great cause. They just him days of work while bring years of experience to bare. Thumbs up to all. Will be watching this as it progresses.
I recently saw a black cherry 67 gto going down the road. Only difference was the wheels. Looked exactly like it.
OMG Tacoma's finest! Griot's getting represented is amazing! Well done everyone!
I've been to a couple car meets at their Tacoma location. For being a detail shop that place is super clean and everyone was really friendly. They also had a mini museum inside that is super cool.
Sooo what's happening with this car?? Still a work in progress? Done and returned???
Love the videos. Keep em coming.
It's great to have friends in the car world and Derek you have some really nice caring one's 😊 that gto looks amazing 👏 I absolutely love all the classic cars trucks over today's cars that's when they made cars all steel with v8 power houses and a smooth ride head turners 👍🇺🇸
Those GTO design lines makes your day happy to watch. Awsome car and work guys. Always nice to watch your channel regards from Sweden.
Thanks for helping our Vets Derek and thanks to all those guys that helped make this beautiful car Sparklelate again.
Man the goats looking 🔥!!!! Great job Derek 👏!! The owners gonna be very happy, you have the magic touch 😀! Can't wait to see it once it's complete!!!! So awesome that the Griots Garage folks helped out, I use their products on my 69 gto and they're top notch!!!!
